Product Review: Zensah Maternity Compression socks & sleeves

I suffered horrible Edema with at least two of my pregnancies. Edema is condition marked by swelling, especially in  legs and ankles caused by excess build up of fluid. It is a common condition experienced during pregnancy.   The edema caused fluid to pool to my ankles.  It was so bad that you could actually hear the liquid swishing around as I walked. Gross, I know!!
Boy, would I have loved to have had something like the maternity compression sleeves that this company Zensah makes back then. I used to wear maternity tights but they didn’t work that well.  I was sent a pair of sleeves by Zensah to check out the product for this review.  However, the pregnant woman I had in mind to test out the tights went into labor and had her baby before she and I could connect. Congrats to her and her hubby on the birth of a beautiful baby girl!
So I was left with some cute sleeves that were in a pretty soft pink and which coincidentally matched the fuschia shirt I planned to wear to the Navy 5 miler race this past weekend. What a blogger and reviewer to do? Since the product is marketed to athletes as well and the label included glowing testimonials from athletes that swear by the sleeves, I put them on and headed out the door. I was pleasantly surprised to note that I didn’t experience any discomfort for the entire race. I usually get some muscle strain and sometimes some soreness when I run, especially long distances. The support to my muscle and joints was amazing.
I imagine if it could do that for me during a run, it could have a similar comforting and ailing effect to a mother suffering from achy legs and edema.  The company’s websites sell it well:

Fresh Legs Sleeves feature graduated compression, which increases circulation and oxygen blood flow. This will act to minimize swelling and thereby relieve pain in both the shins and calves. Pin-point compression goes to work on the exact source of the pain in the lower leg that women commonly experience during pregnancy.

Compression helps stabilize muscle tissue keeping the swelling of muscle fibers at a micro and manageable level. Without compression support, the shins and calves easily swell up during pregnancy, making it painful to walk.

Gravity can cause a build-up of fluid in the muscles and surrounding tissue. This build-up of fluid increases swelling and increases pain, especially when pregnant. Fresh Legs Sleeves help reduce this inflammation by utilizing compression and seamless technology to offer energizing and revitalizing massage-like relief for the lower leg that women desperately need during pregnancy.

They are a good bet! They come in an array of colors and run $39.99 but are so worth the relief from pain and discomfort. I’d say they would be worth a try. The company also sells maternity socks for $49.99 that probably would look better worn with a dress and blend in better with your work wardrobe than the sleeves which I think have an athletic look and feel to them. They wouldn’t fly in most office work environments.
