Last Saturday, May 19th, the Baby Bash and Bling lifestyle expo made a stop in Arlington, Virginia. The show is one of the only traveling exhibits that empower pregnant parents-to-be to explore various vendors, sample goodies, take in a fashion show and all in a fabulous afternoon.
This was the second expo that Bellyitch attended and so far our favorite as the organizers have stepped up their game big time by hosting the event in an exquisitely designed almost new Renaissance Arlington Capitol View hotel in Crystal City, Virginia footsteps from DC.
A highlight of the exhibit hall was the sweet and blinged out cupcake design featured prominently (above). The bakery that created the design is run by a mother and son team that creates the gorgeous treats and operate almost exclusively by word-of-mouth and delivers these scrumptious delights to showers, weddings, and other events.
We got a chance to chat with a few of the other vendors at the exhibit including one half of a sister duo that launched a new baby concierge service. Founded in 2008, Mommy Relief, based in Falls Church, Virginia, dispatches nurses and mother’s helpers to new moms and helps them get situated during those very early days after bringing a baby home. Kristin Emery says she and her sister Jennifer Smith launched the service, based in Virginia, and is getting plenty of business.

And speaking of sisters, as reported last week, we also got a chance to speak to one half of the Sister Sister teen stars, Tia Mowry, who was promoting her new book Oh Baby! Pregnancy Tales and Advice from One Hot Mama to Another. It was great to see the star of 5 seasons of the CW and then BET show The Game in person. We featured her prominently in posts in 2010 and 2011. She told us she wrote the book while carrying her and husband, actor Cory Hardrict‘s first child, a son who she delivered in June named Cree Taylor.

The show culminated with a fashion show, d’jed by a leggy DJ, and featuring the designs of Maven Style Studios and Maven Designs, which ironically is owned by a fellow-lawyer and longtime friend of mine, Gennet Purcell. I had no clue she had left the practice of law to concentrate on a maternity wear line. It is a small world after all.
