Aussie radio station pranks Kate Middleton’s hospital pretends to be queen, gets info (AUDIO)

An Australian radio station successfully prank called the hospital where Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton is staying while recuperating from extreme morning sickness. The nurse who answered the phone believed the 2Day FM Radio DJ Mel Greig was the Queen of England and host MC was Prince Charles calling to get an update on Kate. The nurse endend up relaying lots of personal information about the Duchess to the pranksters.
The nurse explained that Kate was still asleep, was given fluids and recuperating given she was quite dehydrated when she was admitted to the hospital the previous day. The nurse explained that Prince William went home after 9 pm but that Kate was sleeping on and off, perhaps because of the new bed! Whoa! So much info to strangers. Aye!
The station apologized on Twitter, writing, “2Day FM sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused by the enquiry to Kate’s hospital, the radio segment was done with the best intentions and we wish Kate and her family all the best.”
Mel and MC have also said on the BBC website: “We were very surprised that our call was put through, we thought we’d be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We’re very sorry if we’ve caused any issues and we’re glad to hear that Kate is doing well.”
The station had promptly put the call on air and posted it to YouTube.
In the States, there are strict rules and regulations regarding information relayed about people’s personal health status, in person and over the phone. Surely, it could have happened here but maybe unlikely given the elite nature of the patient, and you’d think the hospital would have instilled stricter policies for the bloody Royal family!
Oh well. Lessons learned. It’s going to be a nine months. Kate and Prince William are in for it. Poor them.
