I tried on Most of Victoria Beckham’s Target Collection Released Today

17883827_10154176504976353_516278969222178939_n
Last October, we let you know that our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum and blog fave Victoria Beckham was set to launch her first ever children’s line as a part of a collaboration with big box retailer Target.

Well that time is now, actually today April 9 thru the end of the month April 30 while supplies last, you can get VB x Target clothing for toddlers, kids, and adults.

I headed over to my local Target after a friend texted me a reminder that the clothing was available and being snatched up in Target stores nationwide and I wanted to experience it for myself first hand and get some snaps of the pieces on the shelves and racks.  I was expecting something like the  the carnage that went down when Balmain released a line for H&M.

Beckham is following in the footsteps of other designer brands including Rodarte, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jason Wu, Missoni, and Peter Pilotto, which have all dreamed up affordable wares for Target over the years. “For a while now, I have been thinking, how great it would be to work on clothes for a customer that either doesn’t want to pay or can’t pay designer prices,” Beckham said in a statement. “So when Target — a company based on accessibility and inclusiveness — proposed a collaboration which combined all of these things, it was an easy decision to make.”

Beckham’s collabo was different because hers will have larger sizes in the store where before they were only available online, and it was cause for criticism in the past, as with the insanely popular Lilly Pulitzer collaboration.

17883748_10154176552686353_405004593902250902_n

In any of event, when I got to my local store, I didn’t see any mad rush but rather a few families checking out the racks. I waited patiently for them to skedaddle along because I wanted to get a good photo of the Sign.

17861920_10154176504876353_5127529402379877695_n

This store had the entire collection for all age groups in one section. I could easily ascertain that the cute grey ribbed jumper sets, the layette collection of bibs and onesies were for babies. The girl toddler selection is absolutely aforable and they looked like the kind of clothes you could imagine Harper Beckham wore when she was that age.

17634806_10154176504881353_7869726349684484443_n

But not so much with the other items in the collection, which comes in signature colors of black, white, grey, orange and brand mascot bunny and bees. The collections include: Circus Scallops, Pressed English flowers, English Lace, Clever Bunny and Pop Floral.

17862627_10154176504866353_4415152486908416089_n

Because the clothing for children mirror the adult version and there were a lot of sheath dresses, I didn’t know which was for kids and which for adults.

17884145_10154176504861353_8829160139062233612_n

I like what I saw, generally.  The quality of the construction  of the clothing, the material’s weight and the look were all top quality. They had a high end aesthetics to them as well. My fave is the see thru raincoat for kids.

17861570_10154176504871353_605223129842211475_n

Also, I loved the paper dolls, coloring book and sticker books.

Because I wanted to see how the clothing would look on an average size and shaped woman who is not a model, I tried on a few pieces.

17799307_10154176504971353_4317323591739302730_n

Again, I couldn’t tell from just looking at the clothing which would fit. They all looked to run large, and I saw a few people on social media complaining about that but when you actually put on the pieces, you realize they aren’t large at all. Just in case, I picked up an item in every size and would you believe, she fit in them all!?! Look:

beckham

Admittedly, I squeezed in this orange. It is a size xs and I could certainly go up two sizes. *snicker*. My fave piece is the  Black Calla Lily Button Down Top. It fit quite comforably and I really dig the Nero type collar.

17861947_10154176503461353_2259931193687703472_n

These pieces are among the other 200 items in the ready to wear line that includes rompers, playful tops and dresses. About designing for kids, Beckham said it was something she has wanted to do for years.

“Designing for children is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, so I was incredibly excited to be able to incorporate childrenswear into this collection,” she said on a blog post on the Target site. “When working on it, I really felt I could tell a story and have fun with it—and I think the clothes reflect just how much fun I had designing them! Being a mother has helped me understand what’s important when it comes to the category. I have had years of learning that function is often just as important as form, and that children need to be able to feel comfortable and free in what they wear. For me it was really all about finding a balance between the fun elements and the real-life functionality of a garment.”

Victoria Beckham for Target ranges in price from $6-$70, with most items under $40, and will be offered in sizes XS-3X for women and NB-XL for girls, toddler and baby. The collection will be available April 9 through April 30, 2017, or while supplies last, at all Target stores and Target.com with  select pieces available for global shoppers via VictoriaBeckham.com. There are a few online exclusives as well.

Before the launch, Beckham shared a commercial for the line which she says is reminiscent of her days as a member of the popular 1990s British girl group, the Spice Girls. In the background to the commercial plays the group’s most famous song, “Spice Up Your Life.”

She also said the inspiration was her daughter.

“I’m reading my life with Harper and what we do as mother and daughter not just with regards to the clothes, but I created some little coloring books and sticker books, and, you know, it’s things that myself and Harper do in England together,” Beckham explained in a promo video. “This is celebrating my relationship with my daughter, and I think it’s great that other women can do exactly the same…. The inspiration behind this campaign was a world of possibilities–make-believe, imagination, and the unexpected.”

Nice!

I Love Victoria Beckham and She Answers these 73 Questions Perfectly (VIDEO)

beckham

I love the color black and I love clean lines and simple classic silhouettes and so naturally, my blog’s Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum and recipient of one of our fashion mom icon awards is Victoria Beckham.

I am uber excited to see her  launch a line of children’s clothing in partnership with Target.

The mega retail chain will sell the 200+ piece collection at a modest price point starting $6 to $70 beginning April 9, 2017. Along with her signature silhouettes, Beckham will introduce kids’ attire. And her daughter Harper may have influenced the timing. She turns 5 this year, as does Beckham’s line.

“I felt it was the perfect time to extend into a more accessible price point and to celebrate both milestones,” said the designer in a statement. While we wait for the big reveal, here we pinpoint a few of the designer’s style signatures that we hope will make their way into the collection.

I’m super excited!! She was named the celebrity designer who wears her own line most and BEST by me! (weeeee!!!)

The items will also be available on Beckham’s website, victoriabeckham.com

I thoroughly enjoyed and learned a bunch about the former Spice girl from this version of Vogue’s video series 73 Questions….like she really sincerely digs her husband, David Beckham! She brings him up much in her answers.

Victoria Beckham To Start Selling Kids’ Clothing

Victoria Beckham will soon join the small legion of celebrity designers to launch a line of children’s clothing. Today, our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum announced her effort to expand her brand to more global audiences via a partnership with Target.

Victoria Beckham Wins the Contest of Celeb Who Wears Her Own Line Most/Best

victoria beckham

If there was an award for the celebrity designer who does the best job at wearing and promoting her own line it would go to Victoria Beckham. There isn’t a black and/or white combo the former Spice Girl doesn’t like and whenever she’s spotted out and about, whether by the paparazzi, on a red carpet or doing a press appearance, she is wearing clothing from her high end label.

There is a reason she was named one (and the first) of Bellyitch’s Fashion Mom Icon.

Mrs. David Beckham‘s stuff is classic, chic and basic. They have clean lines and because there is so much black, the clothing can complement well with other pieces and flatter women of different shapes and sizes.

vb jumpusuit

The price points, though steep for most people’s common budgets, still vary.  For example, one can nab this cotton blend jumpsuit from her line which is down and half off from $1,600 to $650.   It has a slim but boxy fit and could be rocked with patent pumps or sandals.

vb dress

On the other end of the spectrum is this $3,995 strapless Corset flare wool dress which comes with a diamond broach.  It looks fabulous and the A-line is wonderful for accenting a nice neckline while de-emphasizing the hips.

vb sripes

In the middle of that price range is this $1,500 striped knitted top from Beckham. Cute but wow!  I think right now, is second with her new line named after her grandparents,

Chrissy Teigen’s Maternity Style is Victorian Feminine and Chic Casual

Like this Lavin dress she wore to a premier and this $13,000 embroidered Gucci gown the model wore while covering the latest edition of Marie Claire magazine!

Also, like this crimson feminine Costarellos dress with beautiful jewelry by Leticia Linton and EFFY, ring by Le Vian and Judith Leiber purse she wore to another event recently.

It’s all ornate but light at the same time. Love it!

She keeps it casual too!

Harper Beckham beats Blue Ivy and North West as most coveted celebrity child model

So Blue Ivy and North West aren’t the most sought after child models after all?
The UK Telegraph claims that Harper Beckham‘s parents Victoria and David Beckham have been offered up to $30 million worth of modeling contracts since she was spotted sitting in the front row at her mom’s New York Fashion Week show last week.
“Companies see her as the greatest role model for a wholesome, modern family image,”an insider reportedly stated. “She’s surrounded by a happily-married working couple and go-getting brothers. You cannot buy that kind of appeal.”
The same insider said that mom and dad have rejected all offers.
Must be nice to be able to afford to turn down all that dough.

The Expensive Ways Celebrities Prepare For a New Baby

kim K in a yellow truck

kim K in a yellow truck

For most people, the glamorous life is a fantasy and something some aspire to attain. It’s why we love celebrities and high profile people.

It’s why shows like Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and more recently, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and half of the Bravo TV line up do so well.

If we were to be totally engaged with that lifestyle, here is one of the ways we would make our 2020 amazing.

Get Extravagant PUSH presents like Sports Cars

One of the best ways that you can make your 2020 more glamorous if you are a celebrity is to invest your money in a new sports car. Travis Scott famously gifted his ex Kylie Jenner a $1.4M Ferrari after she welcomed the couple’s first child together, Stormi Webster.

Take Luxury Babymoons

Us peons may take a Babymoon to Miami to get away before baby arrives.

Celebrities have access to more luxurious locales. Ciara who is expecting her third child, but second with her husband Russell Wilson announced the news while chilling on a rock in Turks and Caicos.

They just whip out their list of some of the most glamorous destinations that you can visit and close their eyes and pick!

ciara babymoon in turks and caicos

Start a Maternity Fashion Line

When we get pregnant and can find something chic to wear, we hold on to our non maternity clothes for as long as we can before having to break out the overalls and succumb to the belly. Celebrity women just call up a few sponsors and brands and start an entire fashion line. Several famous women like Heidi Klum, Victoria Beckham and Jessica launched maternity fashion lines while expecting.

If we wanted to emulate that sort of extravagance we would have to do stuff like hit the vintage shops or sell our old clothes on sites like Depop

Buy New Homes for Baby

When baby makes three, the average new family convert the old study into a nursery or clean out the spare room. Stars purchase a larger home to accommodate the nanny and extra staff that will be on board to help them navigate parenthood.

To prepare for the arrival of their first child together, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis upgraded their home and purchased a $10M 3 bedroom, 4 bath Beverly Hills home to accommodate their growing family, according to US Weekly. They aren’t the only ones.

Purchase the Most Expensive Crib

Finally, while the rest of us are scouring sale ads and stalking Groupon for deals on strollers and car seats, celebs like Beyonce splurge on high price top of the line products like purchasing a $3,500 lucite crib for her first child Blue Ivy.

And not just cribs, these high paid figures can afford to get the most expensive car seat, designer new born clothing and more. It’s part of the perk of being wealthy.

In the meantime, we gawk and point and admire from our computer screens.

Decade in Review: 10 Celeb Parenting Trends That Are Now Outdated

Having covered celebrity pregnancy, parenting and the “bump watch” for over a decade, I pride myself in being an institutional memory of the trends in this space.

As we close out on another decade, I’ve identified 10 trends that have come and gone from the past decade, including old ones that have faded out of style over time and new ones spearheaded by the recent popularity and usage of social media.

Let’s start with the trends that are

Outdated and going bye bye:

10. Million Dollar Deals for First Baby Photos

In 2007, Julia Roberts reportedly was the first celebrity to demand a six figure payday ($250,000) from PEOPLE magazine to get the rights to publish the first photos of her twins Phinnaeus and Hazel. OK magazine got a steal and paid merely a little over a half a million for pics of Gwen Stefanie’s 2 week old son, Kingston. OK Magazine lost their $2 million dollar bid for Britney Spear and Kevin Federline’s first baby pic to People magazine. Nicole Richie reportedly received $1M for her photo of son, Max and Christina Aguilera for her son.

With magazines, along with newspapers, losing tons of revenue as people start to rely on digital forms of media for news and information, it no longer made business sense to pay these astronomical amounts of money.

Also, with the advent of social media and more conscious celeb couples publishing their babies on Instagram for free, the less famous personalities who used to shop for first photo deals found there was no longer a market for them.

9. Pregnant Nude Covers

After Demi Moore posed on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in 1991, it became a thing for stars to do the same.  Since then, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Nia Long and many more graced covers in the buff while expecting.

Soon, it became more of a quick and easy way to get publicity and attention, and eventually the public interest in them waned.

The last big photo issue was of Alanis Morissette in 2016. She did an undercover water shoot but the naked baby bump photo thing is more or less passe and not a public rosy stunt many will do.

8. The Celebrity Bounce Back

Around the same time that gossip magazines started to cover celebrity parents, we saw a lot of photos about the “bounce back”. It was as if it was a competition to see who could pop up slim and trim months or even weeks after baby.

It was ridiculous for several reasons: 1) a lot of the covers were photoshopped; 2) some of the celebs either genetically were predisposed to lose weight fast or underwent surgical procedures to quickly trim down after baby; 3) it set up a dangerous standard given that a lot of celebs have private chefs and trainers to help them lose weight fast; and 4) it sent a damaging message to women who should be concerned with safely healing from delivery and focusing on nursing and connecting with their newborns.

In any event, those magazine covers are not as common as before. In fact, a bunch of celebrity women like Chrissy Teigen, Blake Livey, Mila Kunis and others have spoken out about the ridiculous expectations on them to return to their pre-pregnancy form after baby.

The industry has gotten the message and do not sensationalize the bounce back as much as before.

7. Sponsored Baby Showers

Once upon a time, celebrities were approached by companies and brand representatives to host a baby shower for them in exchange for promotion of their products. The companies knew there were tons of promotions that came with the exposure.

Amazon.com sponsored Khloe Kardashian’s baby shower in 2018. Although the trend is dying out, over the past decade, Danielle Jonas and her husband Kevin celebrated a baby shower thrown by Fit Pregnancy magazine.

Also, Burt’s Bees was among the sponsors of Kourtney Kardashian’baby shower when she was pregnant with daughter Penelope. Similarly, Le Bebe CoCo  was among Kristin Cavallari‘s baby shower sponsors. Target hosted Beverley Mitchell’s baby shower. Several liquor companies provided the libations for cocktails served up at Love and Hip Hop’s  Yandy Smith‘s baby shower.

Jaime King enjoyed some fab brand goodies at her shower.  Ecoya‘s Sweet Pea & Jasmine home fragrance collection, a pink Quinny Buzz Special Edition stroller, a mamaRoo baby swing, a pink Hoppop Bath tub, a pink Little Giraffe Luxe Blanket, a Timi and Leslie diaper bag and a 5 ft. custom-made giraffe by Melissa and Doug all contributed to Victoria Beckham‘s baby shower.

Finally, Belly Bandit sponsored Jewel’s baby shower.

While this trend continues, audiences do not respond as favorable to them any longer and the comment section on sponsored baby showers are sometimes filled with negative commentary from fans who want less rich new parents to be showered with the gifts.

SOCIAL MEDIA DRIVEN

6. Hiding Children’s Face in Social Media

We famously were contacted by Stella McCartney’s reps over 10 years ago to remove paparazzi photos of her traveling with her children in the street posted on the blog. A few years later, Kristen Bell and husband Dax Shepard launched a campaign in 2014 to get a California state law passed to protect children of celebs from paparazzi. Others have done the same.

Eva Mendes and Kerry Washington do not show their kids in public or social media at all.

In the social media era, a few refuse to feature their children in social media or they hide their faces when they do: Zoe Saldana, Beyonce, brit star Rochelle Humes, Kylie Jenner  and Jenna Dewan all have done that in the past or continue to.

5. Celebrity Kids Instagram Accounts

On the flip side, several less famous stars realize the tremendous money making and marketing opportunities in giving their children their own account and branding their name and fame from birth.

It’s a pretty recent phenomenon, but starting with , DJ Khaled who launched an Instagram account  for his son Asadh in 2016 when Baby Khaled was just one month old, many celebs have created accounts for their kids as well.

Little  Asadh now has 1.8M followers, Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade‘s 1 year old daughter Kaavia James boasts 1M followers and Michael Phelps’ 3-year old son Boomer Phelps  now has 665K followers of his Instagram page.

I think the youngest baby to get an Insta was Cali Clay Shephard, daughter of model Chanel Iman and Sterling Shepard whose account was opened at just 16 days old.

This is a trend that is not getting old but is growing as more realize the revenue generating options that open up with having a massive engaged following.

4.  Hiding Pregnancy to Late Trimester

From my memory in covering this topic, I think that Kylie Jenner, Anna Kournokova and a few others did the best job at hiding their pregnancies for all 9 months. It’s pretty hard to hide from the paparazzi and shield their bump during events, filming and promoting a project.

But in 2011, Evangeline Lilly managed to almost completely disguise her entire pregnancy until papps found her in Hawaii while almost done gestating her first child. Jennifer Lopez and Adele managed to hide their respective pregnancies for over 5 months.

Given how common miscarriage is, a lot of women, whether a celebrity or not, wait until the latest time possible when they feel comfortable that they will be able to carry their baby to term to announce baby news.

Hiding an early pregnancy while building a career in front of the public is not easy to do as Cardi B learned but it can be done and the more private or celebs are learning from others how to do it.

3. Launch New Career/Re invigorate Career

Also during the height of the interest in celeb baby bumps, a lot of stars who were formerly very popular but whose fame had waned were able to reinvigorate their respective careers after having a baby.

For example, Kim Karadashian West once lamented that she saw a spike in paparazzi photos whenever she is expecting.

About 10 years ago, Mommyish published a gallery of celebrities who became more famous after becoming pregnant or becoming a mom.

It is not clear is the general public is as enamored with celebrity pregnancy as it once was before so a baby may not be the career boost as it was in the past.

2. Launch a Maternity or Parenting Related Brand

Tia and Tamera Mowry famously launched a breastfeeding brand called Milky after becoming parents for the first time.  Others like Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum and Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum launched maternity lines or added children clothing to their existing lines as with Stella McCartney and The Kardashians after they became a mom, respectively.

Instagram famous women shift their feeds and started featuring their babies and promoting parenting and motherhood related brands as part of their new post baby rebranding.

So at least in social media, a new baby can create opportunities.

1. Being Open and Honest about Miscarriage

Micarriage is a taboo among many families. It is unspoken and women who go through it suffer in silence or keep it a secret. It occurs more often than many would believe, yet women usually keep it a secret from family and friends. It certainly taints and colors one’s journey to motherhood, whether it happened in the early weeks or mid term. A woman will earnestly never be the same after suffering through one, especially she and her partner were planning for the baby they lost.

In recent years, a lot of celebrities have been open and transparent about having gone through a miscarriage.

And a lot more are being open and transparent about losses they’ve had in the past.

From many of the stars of BravoTV‘s Real Housewives of Atlanta to Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mithcell to Michelle Obama to Beyonce and Carrie Underwood and Gabrielle Union, openly sharing about a miscarriage or pregnancy loss is the thing to do.

Because of their influence, platform and reach, it’s awesome that these women are sharing their stories to help comfort and empathy for those who have endured it or may be unknowing about how common it is.

In the coming decade, let’s hope the trend of being relatable and real continue and we can leave behind those trends that created stress and anxiety among their followers behind.

Besides Kylie Jenner, Which Celeb Wears Their Baby as An Accessory Best/Most?

Mommy and Me fashion is not a new concept.

I think most of us can attest to noticing how our fave and fabulous Fashion Instagrammers manage to turn their brands into mommy brands seamlessly by featuring themselves in matching stylized outfits with their baby.

When celebrities who are most famous for one thing, like acting, being on a reality TV sow, modeling, do this, they are accused of wearing their baby as an accessory.

I think Victoria Beckham might have been the first referenced that way after she welcomed her last child and only daughter Harper in 2011, but certainly, I think we all can agree, that if we were to crown a champion celeb who appears best styled with a child, Kylie Jenner would be crowned the queen.

I’ve scrolled through my Insta feed and identified about 10 that look to use their babies as accessories the most/best. I’m not judging. Not saying it’s good or bad, but visually, they look so well coordinated and stylized, we cannot help but to take notice, and stare in awe!

In the next few days, I’ll share a few posts outlining the 10 celebrity women I think accessorize their personal brands with their baby the most/best.

Stay Tuned, but do drop me a note at jj (at) bellyitchblog.com if you have a candidate that should definitely be on this list.

Alexis Fields and Tamera Mowry-Housley collab On Family Winery

collage of Alexis Fields and Housley Napa valley

I love it when I see Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums in partnership with one another.

More common, I see some of the women featured on this blog wearing the designs of other celeb moms previously showcased. Think Georgina Chapman, Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney and others but this weekend, alum Alexis Fields designed the wine tasting room for fellow Bumpwatch alum Tamera Mowry-Housley.

Fields, a former child star and sis to Kim Fields (Facts of Life, Living Single, Real Housewives of Atlanta), turned her friend and one time Sister, Sister co-star Mowry-Housley’s new venture into a dream by working on the interior of the venue, a labor of love for The Real panel talk show host and her family’s venture, Housley Napa Valley.

Fields shared the unveiling to her followers and fans on Instagram.

This weekend was filled with love and new/old friends at the grand opening of @housleynapa. During this project, we became family. It was such a group effort and couldn’t have been accomplished without the love and dedication of each person involved. So many incredible talents pushed through to make @tameramowrytwo and @adamhousley’s vision a reality. I adore these two and it is always an absolute pleasure to work with them. Tamera, I couldn’t ask for a better design twin. I love how we get each other and support one another. Thank you for always trusting me with projects so personal to you. I cherish our connection. Adam, the brother I never wanted….but I’m so glad I got. I’m so proud of you and, I hate to admit it, but your brilliance and determination inspire me. @kennedybuilt, Dave, you are the most incredible contractor I’ve ever worked with. You and the guys made it a joy every single day. I’m so glad that you and @aprilkennedy found your way into my life. You two and the entire team (Uncle Richie, Josh, Dave, Chaz, Chappy, Spiro…and I know I’m forgetting someone but the love is the same) are amazing. I’m grateful that your incredible skills brought this design to life. And last but definitely not least, #TimMowry, I call you the Heart of Housley. You work the hardest and always still have a smile to offer and a pat on the back. You make everyone feel at home with your warm, loving personality. Thank you for having my back. I have yours, forever. I hope everyone will go and visit #housleynapavalley. It’s such an awesome place to be!!!! And I’m not saying that just because I designed it!!!! ❤️
