MTV is reviving and Casting for ’16 and Pregnant”

img_2902

MTV is now casting a new season of  its thought-provoking documentary series “16 and Pregnant”

The series follows the journeys of young women as they face unexpected pregnancies and navigate the difficulties of becoming parents at a young age.

MTV states its goal is to give viewers a look inside the realities of teen pregnancy — from morning sickness and balancing school responsibilities to navigating incredibly difficult decisions and relationships with boyfriends and/or parents, ultimately to the day of the baby’s arrival and beyond.

The show has been criticized as glorifying teen pregnancy but in actuality, studies we’ve seen show the opposite.

The show reveals  much of the downside of teen pregnancy and therefore acts as a deterrent, some reports state.

A 2014 study suggested a direct link  between the show and a drop in pregnancy rates, in a study conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research.

It found that the rate of teenage pregnancy declined faster in areas where teenagers were watching more MTV programming. After crunching the numbers, researchers concluded that the shows prevented more than 20,000 births to teen mothers in 2010 alone.

There are still the skeptical that say because the cast members become celebrities in their own right, then it does indeed make teen pregnancy seem more exciting.

In any event, the show answered critics by creating the Teen Mom spinoff to continue to present the challenges.

It stopped airing in 2014 but MTV is back at it!

According to a recent announcement provided to Bellyitch, “MTV is looking for young women from varying backgrounds who are facing an unplanned pregnancy and would like to share their personal story about this life-changing and complicated journey.”

The creators want anyone who would like to share their story “in order to raise awareness about this issue, please email us as soon as possible at [email protected].”

Include the city and state you live in and the reason why you’d like to share your story as part of “16 and Pregnant.”

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age as of February 1, 2017 to apply.

Interesting.

maxresdefault-1

Before the Academy Award broadcast on Sunday, February 27 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California, second-time mom-to-be Natalie Portman announced that she was too pregnant to attend.

The Jackie biopic star released a statement about her decision to sit out the award show and stay home with husband, choreographer Benjamin Millepied and 5-year old son, Aleph.

“Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards,” Postman said in a statement to E! News on Saturday. “I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends.”

The actress is nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her leading role in Jackie. She had previously won an Oscar for the 2010 film Black Swan and was nominated before that for her supporting role in the 2004 movie Closer.

Portman was also nominated for Best Female Lead at the Film Independent Spirit Awards for her role in Jackie. The film also got an Oscar nod for Best Feature, Best Director and Best Editing.

Back in 2011, she accepted her Oscar for Best Actress while pregnant with Aleph and thanked Millepied, a choreographer who worked with her on the film, for giving her “the most important role of [her] life.” Her then soon-to-be-born son. Awwww!

Though not there in person, she was seen in an Oscar night version of  host Jimmy Kimmel‘s popular “Mean Tweets” segment.

She read the first one actually: “I feel like if u went to lunch w/Natalie Portman she would only order a hot tea with Lemon and MAYBE some toast, but definitely not an entree tho,” she read before the camera pans out and she turns to show the silhouette of her big belly.”

“You’re wrong,” she whispers looking the camera dead in the eye! Hilarious.

Before actor Mahershala Ali won his first Oscar for Best Actor in Moonlight, he won big with the birth of his first daughter,  Bari Najma Ali.

Ali announced the birth during his Academy Award acceptance speech, “I just wanna thank my wife, who was in her third trimester doing awards season. We just had a daughter four days ago [huge applause from the audience].”

He added, “I just wanna thank her for being such a soldier through this process… and really carrying me through it all. Thank you, I really appreciate it. Peace and blessings.”

Before then, he shared a photo of his wife Amatus Sami-Karim cradling their baby on his Instagram page, captioned with her name, how it is pronounced and a hashtag about the baby’s astrological sign.

“Bari (Bar-ee) Najma Alii ? 2/22/17 #pisces,” he captioned the photo.

Baby girl escaped being called Oscaria. During a pre-Oscar interview, the actor who also stars in a heavily nominated film, Hidden Figures,  joked that if the baby arrived after he won the Oscar he would name her Oscaria if a girl.

Ali made Oscar history as well. He instantly made history as the first Muslim to win the Best Actor award ever. Ali’s film Moonlight took home the Best Film award, albeit after a much talked about controversial and history-making moment. Presenter Warren Beatty was given the duplicate envelope for Best Actress. He opened the envelope and noticed the error and peered inside the envelope looking for another card. Beatty hesitated and did not announce the winner and instead showed the envelope to his co-presenter Faye Dunaway who immediately announced La La Land, which was the movie listed under Emma Stone’s name.

Last night also was historic because the most Black winners won in major categories ever.

How Olivia Culpo’s Marchesa Water Dress helps Charity

HOLLYWOOD, CA – FEBRUARY 26: Actor Olivia Culpo unveils a one-of-a-kind Marchesa for Stella Artois gown featuring beads made from the Stella Artois Limited-Edition Chalices that benefit Water.org during the 89th Annual Academy Awards at Hollywood & Highland Center on February 26, 2017 in Hollywood, California. Actress and former beauty queen Olivia Culpo’s Oscar red carpet dress will help provide clean water to children in the developing world.

How?

The former Miss USA and Miss Universe 2012 teamed up with our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Georgina Chapman to design the dress made up of a chalice.

“It’s in partnership with Stella Artois and Water.org,” the star of The Other Woman  told Ryan Secrest on the red carpet. “Stella Artois created chalices and for one chalice sold, five years of clean drinking water is provided for someone in the developing world. So this dress is actually made out of the chalice pieces, and it’s encouraging people to get involved in the water crisis and buy the chalice.”

And it is a stunning masterpiece. It even flows like water.

“We wanted the dress to represent water itself, so it’s sort of cascading,” she explained. “The crystal represents the water as well. We knew we wanted tears.”

She continued, “They did an amazing job…and it’s fun when you can incorporate good things and charity into fashion!”

Nice!

A little while ago,Sarah Jessica Parker‘s in the long-running hit HBO show  Sex in the City character, Carrie Bradshaw, made Jimmy Choo  and Manolo Blahnik the “it” shoes to covet and have.

Since then, we believe Christian Louboutin has taken the crown as the most coveted shoe.

Although, the designer is known more for his red bottom pumps, he also makes other leather goods like wallets, handbags, and clutches and other accessories. And more than just pumps, the brand also sells a good range of ballet slippers.

We mention this because they are perfect for that preginista that loves to stay fashionable and outfitted in the best and most coveted exquisite fashion items. When swollen feet and sciatia make pumps a no-no, enter your Louboutin Ballet slippers to save the day!

As We All Feared, Beyonce Just Canceled Her Coachella Performance

beyonce coachella

Well, we all saw it coming. That much anticipated Beyonce Coachella headliner moment won’t happen…well, this year anyway.

After the multiple-Grammy winning pop star announced that she was expecting twins this summer, Coachella music festival ticket holders become nervous. She could cancel. Or perform in a chair the entire time and therefore, they would not get a chance to experience Sasha Fierce at her fiercest.

The biggest fear is now real.

Beyoncé will not perform at this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, the festival announced on its Facebook.

“Following the advice of her doctors to keep a less rigorous schedule in the coming months, Beyoncé has made the decision to forgo performing at the 2017 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival,” the statement on the festival’s Facebook page read.

The “Lemonade” singer was scheduled to perform over two weekends at the festival on April 15 and 22.

She will be there next year, however!  So, there’s that. The organizers of the Indio, California-located fest have not said which act would replace her.

And let’s not forget there are other headliners include Radiohead and rapper Kendrick Lamar. However, the festival has already seen a dip in ticket sales by 12% following the news. Pooh! That’s star power!

The 5 Businesses Celeb Women Enter After Getting Pregnant

r-o-c-h-e-l-l-e-h-u-m-e-s-rochellehumes-%e2%80%a2-instagram-photos-and-videos

When celebrities become pregnant, many smartly marry the recent public phenomenon and obsession with celebrity pregnancies with their already large social media followings in several ways:

1) they parlay the renewed interest in their pregnancy into opps and start taking advantage of the additional “bump watch” press exposure by launching reality TV shows or participating in ensemble ones;

2) they write a book about pregnancy or motherhood (Snooki, Tia Mowry, etc )

3) start designing maternity clothing; or

4) start designing  children’s; or

5) launch a pre or post natal exercise video.

Are we wrong? Shall we start naming names and putting up examples or leave it up to your recollection? snark

It makes sense to do. They are smart, savvy and sophisticated and are aware that they are influential people and have what a lot of average people don’t have: a captive following. Booyah! Make it work, ladies. We’re not mad at ya!

Why Amal and George Clooney Will be Staying Away from Some African Countries and Iraq

amal-and-george

Now that international attorney Amal Clooney is pregnant with her and actor husband George Clooney‘s twins, she will avoid hostile countries like Iraq, and will “avoid places where she knows she isn’t welcome,” George told Paris Match magazine in a recent interview.

Likewise, the philanthropist and director producer says he “won’t go to South Sudan anymore or the Congo” in order to stay safe and “be much more responsible, to avoid the danger” now that they are soon-to-be new parents.

The babies will arrive in June and the human rights attorney will have to put on the back burner her legal work as a human rights attorney for human-trafficking survivor Nadia Murad , for example, which is very hostile to ISIS.

Good for them! Put those babies first.
