Gifts For That Woman On Your List Who Only Wears Black!

I love Black! Recently, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that the majority of the clothes in my closet is black. I am content with this. I really don’t need color in my wardrobe. I’m not afraid of color. I’ve worn it, but my preference is black clothing. There are others like me. We have a tribe.

If you are shopping for a family member or friend this Holiday season who wears black a lot, don’t try to change them. Instead, get them what they like and that’s something black.

 MY CLOSET:

I do wear color and loved the lovely peach bohemian dresses generously provided by Top Tier Style that I wore to the Mother-Son dance and my kids’ school this year and paired earlier in the day with the steampunk shades also from Top Tier Style.  I loved that I got to match with my son’s shirt and complement with the tie. The dress was feminine and light. The shades are a conversation starter, durable and top quality.

But these times are rare.

Using the tools from my partners at Shopstyle, I curated a list of the stuff I saw scroll through that was black and I like and I love. I know my tastes aren’t like every other black lover but if you want some inspiration, feel free to click through my finds below:

Be That Well Put-Together Looking Mom in These 5 Steps

As a mom, you might on occasion feel a bit less than glamorous than you might have before you had children and a household to manage.

Between the school runs, dealing with diapers and running around after your family, your appearance may be be the furthest thing from your mind!

If you’re wondering how some moms manage to look effortless while you’re lucky just to be wearing something clean, then it’s time you got let in on a few of their best-kept secrets.

Here are some top tips on how you can be a stylish mom.

1. Perfect a five-minute makeup look

A busy mom on the go will rarely have time to apply a full face of makeup, but the clever use of a few basic cosmetics will at least help you feel a bit more put together. Creating a five-minute makeup look is actually quite simple, and you’ll be surprised by the results!

A BB cream is a great product that will moisturize, illuminate and offer coverage without applying multiple products to give your skin a glowing finish. A bit of blush, mascara and your favourite lipstick will give you a simple, everyday look that only you will know took you five minutes to apply!

2. Co-ordinate your wardrobe

You might have had plenty of time to pick out an outfit pre-kids, but when the goal is to get dressed as soon as you can – the thought process can go out of the window. Organizing your closet to make it easier for you to see what’s there is a great way for busy moms to pick out stylish clothes, without worrying about whether or not things match. Having a few go-to outfits already picked out at the beginning of the week will make getting ready a breeze and will save you a lot of time in the mornings!

3. Build yourself a capsule wardrobe

It’s one thing to be ahead of the latest style trends, but you can’t beat a signature look when it comes to fashion. Building yourself a capsule wardrobe of classic items that will always be in style – think chic blouses, blazers and a selection of pants, jeans, etc. Take a look at Ruby Rd clothing for inspiration – their collections feature plenty of easy to mix and match items that make it easy for you to build a capsule wardrobe. Some stylish accessories are all you need to complete your look to make sure you look effortlessly flawless without having to buy into the latest trends each season.

4. Get a hairstyle that’s easy to maintain

Finding the time to style your hair isn’t always easy when you’re battling to feed the kids breakfast and get them off to school. One of the tricks chic moms use is to choose a low-maintenance hairstyle that still looks great. Low-maintenance hairstyles don’t have to be boring, and there are different cuts available to suit all hair types. You’ll want a style that will dry easily and maintain its shape to help make it easier to look groomed in the mornings. The good news is that messy buns are still very much in fashion, so you’ve always got that classic style to fall back on for those mornings where your hair just won’t play ball.

5. Take some time to pamper yourself

It’s difficult to juggle working and being a mom, but it’s important that you make some time for yourself. Setting aside some time once in a while to pamper yourself and take a bath, apply a face mask and give yourself a manicure will help you to de-stress and help you feel like you again. Learn to put your phone down and spend time taking care of yourself. It’s not always easy to find the time, but even an hour to yourself can make all the difference. It’s important that you pamper yourself to give you a chance to recharge as well as reward yourself for your continuous hard work. A little treat is always well-deserved for a busy mother so don’t be afraid to indulge in some ‘me-time’ when you can.

There are many adjustments that come with being a mother, and your style is certainly one of them. Rather than pining for the past, see this as an opportunity to reinvent your style to find a look that works for you and your new life. A few simple tips and some clever wardrobe planning are all you need to show off your flawless mom style that will make you feel confident and ready to face the world, whatever the day might bring!

5 KPop-Inspired Looks This Blogger Absolutely LOVES!

As a blogger, I spend a lot of my time behind a computer. When I’m not shuttling my brood back and forth to events, games, school, practice and such, I am plugging away trying to deliver the most relevant and up-to-date news, information, fashion style trends, pregnant or parent celebrity gossip, and tips for first time, new and veteran parents.

My style is comfy, casual, chic. I live in yoga pants, leggings, over sized sweaters, canvas shoes and ballet flats. I may jot to the gym or meet up with a friend for coffee but none of these excursions require me to dress up much.

That’s why I was drawn to the BTSOnline styling of clothing on Polyvore when I spotted it on Pinterest. I pulled together my five fave looks among the various looks the online clothier had put together and I tagged products from my partners at Shopstyle in case you are a blogger or other fan of comfy style and want to grab some of these pieces for yourself or get a closer look.

I have a lot of these pieces already in my closet and that’s how I knew they were made with me in mind! Ha!

My 5-Minute MakeUp Application Tips for Moms On The Go

make up in a rush

Whether you’re expecting, a new mom or a veteran mom, there are many times when you may find yourself without time to put on make up, but need to look fresh. First impressions are important and so you want to put your best face forward all the time. I have friends who feel naked without make up and take over an hour to apply makeup before any outing.

Many of us hurried moms, however, don’t necessarily have all that time. I love professional make up for special outings but it isn’t always financially feasible and most times, I have 15 to 20 minutes to get myself together before heading out.

Here is my secret to a natural look in about 5 minutes tops.

jj ghatt bellyitchblog.com

First, apply a gloss in a light pink, nude or other natural soft tone. If you’re heading to an evening event, you can go with a darker hue like plum or crimson.

Next, add liquid eye liner to the bottom of your upper lid and a light stroke for the under lid, but not too much because you don’t want to look too vampy. You want just enough to bring out your eyes. Liquid is better in a pinch because you don’t have to fret if your eye pencil isn’t sharpened.

I recently figured out that light blush can make anyone look cheery and fresh-faced. To figure out where to apply blush, make a big smile big and brush  the apple of your cheeks. Just a touch.

Put on a couple layers of mascara for upper and lower lashes. Add a shimmery gold eye shadow to your lids.  Then finish off with a light dusting of bronzer to set the look. If you have portable make up set spray, you can fix the look with a few pumps so it can last longer without needing a touch up.

And you’re good!  If you don’t have these make up products, I’ve curated a collection below or use them as an inspiration or for reference when you head to your make up counter or drug store.

Good luck moms — xoxo JJ, Bellyitch editor-in-chief

Need Weekend Looks? Try My Celeb Faves

I’ve decided that Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums Growing Up Hip Hop‘s Angela Simmons and Love and Hip Hop:New York‘s  Rasheeda are my fashion spirit animals.

Maybe it’s the fact that I think Simmons and I have similar body shape and height as hers and I love how she experiments with color and embraces blazers, colorful pumps but still rocks her army green and black all day. She does figure hugging body con and sporty Athletic Baseball dresses well.

With Rasheeda, she’s that edgy wild child that I am in my mind. No one can rock a lace up gladiator boot like this mama! She’s also queen of the distressed denims and funky and edgy rocker tee worn under a cute camo jacket or stone or acid washed coat jacket.

They’re definitely fashionable moms after my own heart and they are also hustlers. Each sell clothing, do club appearances and star on reality TV shows and got their hustle game on! Love!

Halloween Eye MakeUp to Try Out This Year

This Halloween, even if you are one to regularly dress up and attend costume parties, you may not be in the mood to do so while preggers.

You can still get into the spirit by adding temporary color to your hair, painting your nails in festive Halloween colors or wearing some dramatic eye make up.

FREE: Limited $10 Gift Cards to Shop Wild Bill Fair Trade Shop

One of our partners Wild Bill is giving all of our readers $10 to shop !

To get the $10 Gift Card Offer simply click this link!

In case you missed it, here is a wrap up of some of our fave items:

Wild Dill is the perfect affiliate partner because I really love their products and really support the concept behind fair trade commerce.

They source their goods direct from the creators in Africa, South America, Israel and all over the world and sell them online for a fair share of the profit which is different from what a lot of companies do: they steal the concept, create duplicates in China made of sub par material and market them as authentic.

Here are my picks of my Fave Wild Dill poducts.

  1. I really love the plush and soft look of the Nui Organics Augustin Sweater. It is made from 100% GOTS organic merino wool the thermal properties are further enhanced by the many air pockets created by the beautiful honeycomb knit structure. The Augustine sweater is mid weight, durable and warm but also very soft to the touch.

2. For mom, this colorful and bright floral Pink Rose Bag made by artisans in Thailand caught my eye! It has a zipped main pocket for security and is lined in kelly green and made of an interior wipe clean nylon inside.

3. Because I am originally from Africa, I just adored the Red Fan African Wax Print Baby Sundress by Dsenyo for babies 18-24 months old. This 100% cotton dress is made by a women’s cooperative in Malawi, Africa. Pair with coordinating bloomers for the full look. Fair trade clothing for babies and toddlers. Dsenyo is a social enterprise partnering with artisan communities in Malawi, Zambia and Brazil, enabling women to become economically empowered through the sale of fair trade gifts and ethical fashion. I also like the Butterfly Monarch print version.
4. My First Christmas shirts are plentiful for baby but you rarely see My First Chanukah onesies or clothing and that’s why I was digging this Israeli-made Baby’s First Chanukah Organic Body Suit as part of Wild Dill’s Hebrew Baby Collection.

5. Because I believe in learning from birth, I was really digging this World Map Fabric Decal Mural that you can affix to baby’s nursery and keep in his room through pre-school so he can learn from the start that the world is larger than the confines of the four walls he is in! American Pop & Lolli creates these chic fabric wall stickers made of nontoxic materials, lead free ink and free from the PVC’s used in the manufacturing of vinyl. The decals maintain a very eco-friendly water based adhesive and the colors are printed with the new Eco-Sol Max inks, which are solvent inks that provide durability and UV resistance, but do not contain the harsh chemicals used in mild and full solvent printing.

6. I also love the handmade 100% cotton Batik Global Mama’s  Teal Floral Dress created by artisans in Ghana, West Africa!

There you have it! My faves and head on over to Wild Dill where you will discover a world of top quality fashion and products from all over the world that are quite unique and will have all your family and friends admiring them and wanting to know where you got them!

What Happened at the Ritchie Station Marketplace Catherine’s Media Launch Last Night

When full-figured and fashionable Catherine Weaver opened up a small boutique in Memphis, Tennessee in 1960, she probably  couldn’t image that her little shop, Catherine’s, would turn into a style destination with over 400 locations nationwide catering to chic and sophisticated women 16W-34W and 0X-5X.

The sister brand to Lane Bryant prides itself on offering affordable high quality clothes in cuts, designs, shapes, patterns and color to flatter any figure.

I attended the media and bloggers launch of Catherine’s newest location, inside the relatively new Ritchie Station Marketplace shopping complex in Capitol Heights, Maryland last night.

I arrived to the Thursday evening event when it was already an hour in. The store which sits on a slight hill, nestled near the Dave & Buster’s entertainment center, was brightly lit with all the crisp fall line of clothing, and it was also electrifying with popular music blaring overhead, setting the mood.

I saw very fashionable full figure bloggers milling about, greeting one another, checking out the offerings, and just generally,  looking fabulous like this gorgeous curvy woman in this very fly denim dress and fierce colorblock platform heels!

Ma’am! We’re not worthy…mkay!?!
Thanks to our host, a nice display of refreshments sat nearby which was just what I needed at the end of a long day, fighting a little bit of traffic in the Uber to get there.
Petite caprise sandwhiches, fruit and crackers and a cheese plate! Yum! Please and thank you!
…and is that jicama?!? Owww!

I was immediately drawn to the Breast Cancer Awareness Collection in the center aisle, where 10% of sales from the pink, black and grey athletic wear will support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation
I liked the athletic gear and yoga wear section, generally, because it was bright and colorful and made of breathable swear wicking materials !

Nice!

Then my eyes wandered to the wonderfully styled mannequins which offer styling suggestions and ideas. Of course that sweater would pair perfectly with this blouse and this belt! Of course!

And then there are the Catherines’ Curvy Collection items that can be mixed and matched to create night, day, play and in between looks depending on how one accessorize, dress up or dress down the pieces.
And as with each Catherine’s, the very friendly sales staff are able to assist you in hooking up an outfit and finding the perfect accessory to match.

This poncho above is to die for, right?!

Personally, I adored the ladies working this night at this location.

And they really know how to guide your selections so you leave happy and knowing you got a great deal!

I couldn’t get enough of the jewerly and I left the store purchasing a gorgeous rose gold cuff necklace, a thick rose gold rope bracelet and some whimsical earrings that look really tribal.
Just in time for fall, there are loads of leather, plaid and scarves to welcome the cooler temps.
But you can still find some light and airy floral pieces that are sunny and reminiscent of Spring.
The lingerie, undergarments and intimates section was fully stocked as well.
And the buy 3, get 1 free sale was on point!

Overall, I had a great time, connecting with other bloggers, influencers and fashion journalists from the area.

We got a special discount but you don’t have to be a blogger to get treated special!

For those of you who live in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, this weekend, starting today through Sunday, stop on in the Ritchie Station store to get a chance to win a $250 shopping spree, special personal styling, goodies and gifts, $10 off a next visit and more!
