Kelly RowlandGets Really Raw in her New Book About Pregnancy

So actress and TV cooking show host Tia Mowry  wrote “Oh Baby“. Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels penned “Yeah Baby“.  The new celebrity to come out with a book about pregnancy for the first time is multi-Grammy winning artist Kelly Rowland.

Her book, “Whoa, Baby!: A Guide for New Moms Who Feel Overwhelmed and Freaked Out (and Wonder What the #*$& Just Happened)” written with her OB/GYN of 10 years Dr. Tristan Bickman went on sale on Tuesday, April 11.

In it, Rowland shares her candid reactions to pregnancy and motherhood; and dealing with all the surprises that you’re never prepared for until you experience it first hand, even if you read about it before in a book.

The Voice Australia coach discussed the book with USA Today and how she too was duped by the perfect magazine covers with the facade celebs who were fit and trim weeks after giving birth.

The former Destiny’s Child band member wrote: “I just saw a cover that I did for Shape and then I’m looking in the mirror going, ‘Oh, my god this is not the same body. How did this happen?’ And, I had to just keep reminding myself that, ‘You had a baby, Kel.’ But I was hard on myself. I really was.”

And in the interview as with the book, the mom to 2-year old son Titan doesn’t hold back. Nothing’s off the table. Incontinence, vaginal tearing, check! and check!

In the book, she referred to herself looking at her lady parts in the mirror after giving birth”the world’s worst idea!”

Your vajayjay does not look the same for a very long time,” she told openly shared, noting that a friend told her that her husband wouldn’t care. “‘But, I care about it.’ We go to get it all done up and trimmed and waxed and this and that and it’s all swollen and crazy and you’re just wondering what just happened?”

It’s a very raw discussion in the book, it seems. She also talks mom guilt and more. Check out the full interview HERE!

Jillian Michaels’ New Book Tackles Pregnancy Misconceptions (REVIEW)

When Jillan Michaels and her partner, Heidi, were expecting their first child together, Michaels did a lot of research and educating herself on the baby-making and incubating process, and through that experience, the TV personality discovered that a lot of pregnant women are being under-informed on their choices and options.

The exploration prompted the The Biggest Loser alum to pen a book and use her expertise as a celebrity trainer and nutritionist to add another reference option and voice into the fray.

Michaels, who is mom to 5-year old daughter Lukensia and 3-year old son Phoenix, recently released her latest book,”Yeah Baby! The Modern Mama’s Guide to Mastering Pregnancy, Having a Healthy Baby, and Bouncing Back Better than Ever.”

In this meaty 350+ page book, Michaels aims to help enrich the unborn baby by making sure mom is educated on ways to eat properly, exercise adequately and avoid the toxins and other hidden dangers and misconceptions floating out there in the interwebs while she is pregnant.

The book is part information handbook, part autobiographical experience and part friendly resource and written from the New York Time’s Best Seller‘s perspective  as she did some researching and digging to uncover some truths about the pregnancy experience. There are sections dedicated to various experts and doctors she and Heidi consulted while on their journey to baby.

The team of experts that contributed to the book include:

  • Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz, MD is an Ob-Gyn, a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist, and board certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine.
  • Andrea Orbeck is a PregnancyFitness Specialist who holds an advanced degree in Kinesiology and Intracellular Physiology.
  • Katja VanHerle, MD is one of America’s Top Physicians in Endocrinology as named by Consumer Research Council of America.
  • Cheryl Forberg, RD is an award-winning registered dietitian, chef, and New York Times bestselling author.
  • Jay Gordon, MD, FAAP is a pediatrician who specializes in infant nutrition and breastfeeding.

Together, the author team, help new moms navigate the hidden dangers in their immediate environment; understand the check-ups, tests, and treatments a doctor recommends; and provides powerful solutions for all  issues, from heartburn and swollen feet to more serious medical concerns. Also, readers learn how to optimize every facet of their child’s development, from IQ and long-term earning potential to future level of physical fitness and even taste preferences! Yeah Baby! also features a complete meal plan with delicious, nutrition-packed recipes, and a one-of-a-kind, trimester-specific fitness program, to ensure you bounce back stronger and better than ever.

Our reader reviewer, Amy, a first-time mom-to-be told us she thought the tone and pace of the book was right on point. It is conversational and not full of too many medical jargon and terminology that can confuse a reader.

“It was like having periodic chats with a girlfriend, ” Amy says  of the flow and content of Hey Baby! That’s a plus. While Amy was aware of some of the insights and suggestions that Michaels offers in this book, she said she certainly appreciated getting her information corroborated.

Her favorite part was the portions of the book where Michael dispels myths related to what pregnant women can and cannot eat.  A lot of the modern wisdom is outdated and untested, Amy agrees with Michaels’ assessment.

While we recommend everyone does what’s best for their personal situation and consult their own doctor, midwife or practitioner, we still think it’s a breath of fresh air to check out and check into Michael’s sojourn and digest her no-holds-bard approach to telling it like it is. ‘

Amy is also looking forward to implementing some of the tips Michaels offers for peeling off the excess weight gain from pregnancy. The steps seem doable and because she knows what Michaels can do, based on the amazing transformations of Biggest Loser contestants, Amy’s even more excited to put the book into action!

Good stuff! A very worthwhile read! You can get it at for just $13.85 for the paperback!

Well in light of today’s landmark US Supreme Court decision overruling the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and enabling Gays who are married in states that recognize gay marriage to receive federal benefits, we thought we’d reshare and update our very popular 2010 post listing gay celebrities that are parents.

Above How I Met Your Mother actor Neil Patrick Harris and his partner/spouse David Burtka with their twins, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace joined Elton John and his longtime partner David Furnish with their son Zachary on a cruise along the Italian Mediterranean in 2011.

Jillian Michaels and her partner Heidi Rhoades  are parents to Michaels adopted daughter Lukensia and the couple’s daughter via donor Phoenix.

Ricky Martin with his twin boys

Wanda Sykes

Cynthia Nixon

The Sex and the City star has two children and has been in relationship with a woman for several years after splitting with her husband.

Sara Gilbert

Gilbert and her partner Allison Adler have two children together. Both were conceived with the aid of a sperm donor.

Melissa Etheridge

B.D. Wong

Cat Cora

Celebrity chef Cora and her partner, Jennifer Cora, were pregnant at the same time with their third and fourth children. The same sperm donor was used in all four pregnancies and each woman was implanted with the other’s fertilized egg.

Jillian Michaels & partner welcome baby boy & adopted Haitian daughter

Congratulations to Jillian Michaels and her partner Heidi Rhoades! The couple welcomed a son, who Rhoades gave birth to named Phoenix, on May 3 within the same week that Michaels’ adoption of a young gorgeous Haitian girl Lukensia came through.
“We’re swimming in babies over here,” Michaels told People magazine. “I don’t even answer email. I don’t have time to care about anything else. I want to be really present and enjoy all the nuances of their growth and development. I don’t want to rush any of it.”

Good attitude! God Bless!
Recall, Michaels caught some heat a little while back when she said she did not want to give birth to ruin the body she worked so hard for before later revealing her plans last December to adopt a Haitian child.
