Kerry Washington is Not Down with the ‘Pump and Dump’ Practice

kerry-washington

Scandal star Kerry Washington isn’t into the whole “pump and dump” thing, the practice of pumping out contaminated breast milk after a breastfeeing mom indulges in alcoholic, spicy, gassy or other food and drink that could filter to baby.

Instead, she has just been staying away from it all.

“I haven’t been drinking a lot of wine because I’ve been with child and nursing,” Washington told attendees at the Scandal cast’s panel during the Disney-ABC portion of the 2017 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour at Langham Hotel on January 10 in Pasadena, California. “I’m not really into the pump and dump.”

During the Golden Globe Awards this past Sunday, the Confirmation star shared that her 2-year old daughter Isabelle Amarachi has been a very good big sister to her brand new 3-month old baby brother Caleb Kelechi.

“She’s enjoying it,” the Emmy and Golden Globe nominee told ExtraTV.

“It’s good. I’m an only child, but my husband [former NFL cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha] has many siblings, so he can walk her through it,” she added.

Wasn’t Scandal star Kerry Washington just simply fierce on the red carpet to tonight’s 2016 PrimeTime Emmy Awards presentation?

Expecting her second child with husband, ex-NFLer Nnamdi Asomugha, Washington wowed in a gorge Brandon Maxwell dress with side cutouts. Who says you can’t do avante garde, sexy and chic while pregnant?

She accented the look she sported at the event that took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California tonight with jewels by Fred Leighton and a pair of Gianvito Rossi heels .

She was nominated for an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Emmy for her role as Anita Hill in HBO‘s movie Confirmation. In addition, the film is nominated for Outstanding Television Movie.

We were also loving the big full curls which looked like crochet braids with loose ringlets on top. Her make up was flawless and natural. Perfect! Bravo!

Bump Watch: Kerry Washington has Been Sticking with a Mainly Black Style Pallete

kerry washington

Since announcing her pregnancy at the 2016 Met Gala, Scandal star Kerry Washington has been laying low, but not as out of the spotlight as with her first pregnancy. She has made a few public appearances and in most of them, she looks to have selected to stick with a mainly black color pallete.

For example, at producer Jennifer Klein‘s 19th annual Day of Indulgence party held in the LA home of the Pearl Harbor associate producer,  Washington donned a black HATCH Chloe jumpsuit to the Los Angeles, California event held on August 14, 2016. According to the YBF, or other bump watch alums, Kristen Bell was at the even as well. So were alums Jennifer Lopez and Anna Farris, InStyle magazine reports.

Washington and her husband, former NFL player Jimmy Kimmel LiveNnamdi Asomugha are expecting their second child. She decided to not film her hit ABC show while pregnant and succumb to all of the crazy ways show producers attempted to hide her bump. The show will return for its 6th season in the middle of the fall season, and on election night to be precise.

“We are basically going to start out the season on election night,” how creator Shonda Rhimes has said. “Yes, it is going to play into our season, but we’re not going to spend our time playing an election.”

She had to also get out of the house this past June 13 to collect her Actors Inspiration Award given at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation 7th annual L.A. Golf Classic Fundraiser in Burbank, California. She went with a floral light and airy Giambattista Valli bohemian dress with black and white heels from Sarah Jessica Parker‘s collection.

The next day, she broke up the black with white and was there for her friend President Barack Obama and his wife First Lady Michelle Obama when she spoke at the White House Summit on the United State Of Women June 14, 2016 in Washington, DC.  it was the White House’s first ever summit to push for gender equality.

KERRY JIMMY

Out of all her looks, I love the black ribbed flare dress she wore during a taping of  Jimmy Kimmel Live‘ on May 12, 2016. And I also adored the Brandon Maxwell cape dress she wore paired with Gianvito Rossi pumps in April at an event (see first image in above collage.)

2nd Time Mom-to-Be Kerry Washington Returned to Twitter, Refreshed

kerry refreshed

After taking a mental health break from social media at the beginning of her second pregnancy, Kerry Washington returned to Twitter yesterday and hosted an #AskKerry Twitter party with her fans. During the one hour session from 1-2 pm PT, she responded to various questions about her career, recent projects, her personal life and her feelings about recent events in pop culture and policy.

When asked how she spent her time off, the star whose career took off following the popularity of her hit ABC television network show Scandal, said, “[w]onderful. & productive actually. Spent a lot of time focusing on health, wellness, family, producing & development.”

She doesn’t give too many interviews where she discusses her personal life, so it was great that she let her fans in and shared much of it yesterday. Here are some of the Q&A.

We also know from the session that Emmy-nominated actress has been exercising this pregnancy as she tweeted about being on a machine while watching TV recently too during the tweet session.

And this…water aerobics.

She discussed her feelings playing Anita Hill in a recent biopic.

She’s coming back to Snapchat.

There is No Such Thing As ‘Having it All’ So Quit Asking Women About It

fashion-woman-cute-airport-large

Salon writer Mary Elizabeth Williams wants people to stop asking working moms about “having it all” — and  she wants women to stop answering

Let’s rewind a bit.

It all started with Facebook executive Margaret Gould Stewart‘s opinion piece in USA Today last Friday. In it, Stewart bemoans the obsession with the fertility of female executive, corporate figures and general managers in the workplace.

“When the venue is a tech conference, let’s talk about tech, for goodness sake. Making motherhood a required topic for women leaders minimizes their contributions to the industry…. It minimizes my expertise and accomplishments and those of my fellow women tech leaders.” she  writes in the piece, suggesting one option for conference moderators.  “As I see it, you have two choices: you can either ask everyone these questions about their private lives and their role as a parent, or you should ask no one.”

And the impetus for her column was witnessing a session at the Fortune Brainstorm conference when the interviewer on stage mentioned that the CEO of YouTube Susan Wojcicki, who was being interviewed, just had her fifth child.  He then tells the audience to give her applause for that but didn’t ask them to give praise for her series of accomplishments he rattled off before talking about her children.

“The first four minutes of a 21-minute interview with the person some call the most influential woman in the industry was focused on parenting and pregnancy,” Stewart recalls.

She ends it with a series of pleas to PR people, Conference organizers and moderators to stick to the script, essentially, and not focus on the “work/life balance” so much for female execs in high ranking positions.

TV Producer and creator of wildly popular shows like Scandal  Shonda Rhimes co-signed on Stewart’s article by retweeting it with the comment, “THIS!”

And seeing that, Williams was inspired to write her piece which says that there is no such a thing as having it all.  In fact, that’s what she called it, “Stop asking working moms about “having it all” — and women, stop answering.”

She suggest that the question is really just a means of telling women that they shouldn’t strive for the pinnacles of success in the workplace.

“They’re supposed to come up short and serve as cautionary tales of what happens when women want things, especially things in addition to babies…” Williams wraps up the post.

Love it and couldn’t agree more. Check out her entire column Here!

I’m not in the corporate world, but I am an entrepreneur and run my own business and people ask me all the time “how do I do it.” And the answer always is because I love what I do, but as to having it all- Negative.

When you pour your all into your children, you cannot focus on your relationship with your spouse as much. When you are spending late nights at work or on travel constantly, then you miss important moments in your kid’s life.

I am a mess and as much as I give advice on how to keep it together, I am a far way from having all my ish together my darn self.

Scurrying out the house and in between meets and practices and games and school events and managing my media company and blogging and attending  networking functions and events I cover when I’m freelancing and working on a few clients work, I find I’ve lost myself and don’t have time to enjoy each moment.

I show up late often and get overwhelmed with all the due dates and everything coming at me at once.

Thus, it is true that there is no such a thing as “having it all” but that shouldn’t stop women from doing what they want, striving to the highest achievement or taking a path less traveled…with or without kids.

Kerry Washington is on every cover on your newsstand

Well, not really, but still.

Our Bellyitch alum Kerry Washington has been having a great past few weeks. I see her everywhere on covers of lots of top magazines April and May issues.

Usually, you can tell which designers she is outfitted in during magazine spreads, but scoping her Twitter stream during the airing of her top ABC show Scandal last night,  I discovered that she also tweets out the designers who make the amazingly sharp and gorgeous clothes she wears on the show. It is usually in response to one of her Gladiators swooning and tweeting at her asking who made the clothing item.

Awesome! As a person who dabbles in content marketing and promotion, I think that is an excellent way to promote those labels as well. I hope she’s getting paid for it because I spotted a few pieces I’m coveting now myself. Tee hee!

Werk, Kerry!

Kerry Washington & 11 Other Celebs who never announced their baby news to press

So the news today is that Scandal star gave birth to her and husband Nnamdi Asomugha  first child together, daughter, Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha TWO WEEKS AGO on April 21.
Congrats!
Figures though, right? She never told anyone she was engaged, never publicly acknowledged she was married before getting hitched  and so this makes sense to conceal this news about the birth at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, that TMZ uncovered today.
She would not be the first to attempt to just keep it all hush hush.
Actress Neve Campbell never announced when she birthed her first child with hubby JJ Feild  in August 2012 until paparazzi captured the family at a park and the baby looked to be about a month old!
Later that year, Megan Fox waited almost a month to announce in October that she had given birth in mid September.
But singer Dido takes the cake! The British crooner welcomed her first child in the summer of 2011 but didn’t mention a baby until 6 months later in a tweet in December that year! We hypothesized that maybe it was our query that perhaps prompted the UK Daily Mail to inquire.
And of male stars, actor Michael Ealy randomly mentioned during an interview on the Steve Harvey show this February that he and his wife of two years had a kid. And the kid is like a few years old.
Same deal with singer Pharell and his wife, Helen. We only recently started seeing pics of his son Rocket Man who is now 5 years old.
Not just births either.
Jennifer Hudson never revealed she was pregnant ever. A wayward cameraman accidentally discovered it when she was about 8 months along.
Same deal with actress Evageline Lily. She too was hiding away in Hawaii to avoid the prodding press when she got busted in her 7 or 8th month trying to avoid the “bumpwatch!”
Adele, Megan Fox, Drew Barrymore and January Jones all never confirmed their pregnancies either until their news leaked when they were well into their pregnancies.

And Now you know it’s not that unheard of that some celebs actually value privacy in these matters. Ha!
 Please H/T if you share!

Speculation: Kerry Washington is due any day now

Kerry Washington is probably term and set to deliver her baby any day now, according to speculators.
The third season of her hit show Scandal just wrapped and was shortened from 22 to 18 weeks to accommodate the star. It makes sense then that her due date, not previously announced, is upon us.
And then she missed the season wrap party.
“Super sad to have missed the #ScandalWrapParty a night out with my #Scandal fam but very grateful to be getting some much needed rest! Xo,” Washington tweeted on Twitter this Sunday, March 31.
And…
Actor Malik Yoba, rapper MC Lyte, horee Veranda Dickens pose with Common and Asomugha
As the sleuths at the website CocoaFab.com reported, Washington also missed an event where her husband Nnamdi Asomugha got honored for his philanthropic efforts by rapper Common‘s organization, The Common Ground Foundation‘s Gala of Gratitude at the Millenium Park hotel in Chicago, Illinois.
(Side note: It could have been an awkward moment too considering Washington and Common were once romantically linked. Anyone ever notice that Common’s video for “I want you” featured three women he reportedly and really dated in the past: Washington, Serena Williams, and Alicia Keya.)
Anyway we can’t wait to hear news about the birth of new baby Asomugha.

How Scandal producers hid Kerry Washington’s baby bump

Kerry Washington is soon to be a mommy but to pull off her role as a non- pregnant Olivia Pope in Scandal season 3 producers used TV tricks, strategically-placed handbags and other creative maneuvers to keep the story line intact.
Hello Beautiful compiled a list of 15 scenes from “Scandal” season 3, episode 13 (which aired on ABC on Thursday, March 13) showing the unique ways producers covered Washington’s  bump.
How smart!! Check out the list of scenes and descriptors HERE!

Happy Birthday, Kerry Washington!

Happy Birthday, Bellyitch Bumpwatch Babe and Mom-to-be,
Kerry Washington

The Emmy-nominated star of Scandal turns 37 today.
Washington and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha of the National Football League are expecting their first child together since marrying last summer.
The Golden Globe nominee has a fan in the First Lady of the United States too.
In an interview that aired yesterday with Ryan Secrest, Mrs. Michelle Obama said she enjoys Washington in the hit ABC drama about fictional crisis manager Olivia Pope who solves national and international crisis while balancing internal turmoil about having an affair with the fictional president.
Oooh! Too close for comfort? Not for Mrs. O who caught up on the series during a very long flight to her vacation home in Hawaii over the Christmas break.
“I watched all the seasons, I caught up on ‘Scandal,’ I had never watched it,” the first lady said. “I love Kerry Washington, she is amazing, so it makes the show fun.”
