Kelly RowlandGets Really Raw in her New Book About Pregnancy

So actress and TV cooking show host Tia Mowry  wrote “Oh Baby“. Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels penned “Yeah Baby“.  The new celebrity to come out with a book about pregnancy for the first time is multi-Grammy winning artist Kelly Rowland.

Her book, “Whoa, Baby!: A Guide for New Moms Who Feel Overwhelmed and Freaked Out (and Wonder What the #*$& Just Happened)” written with her OB/GYN of 10 years Dr. Tristan Bickman went on sale on Tuesday, April 11.

In it, Rowland shares her candid reactions to pregnancy and motherhood; and dealing with all the surprises that you’re never prepared for until you experience it first hand, even if you read about it before in a book.

The Voice Australia coach discussed the book with USA Today and how she too was duped by the perfect magazine covers with the facade celebs who were fit and trim weeks after giving birth.

The former Destiny’s Child band member wrote: “I just saw a cover that I did for Shape and then I’m looking in the mirror going, ‘Oh, my god this is not the same body. How did this happen?’ And, I had to just keep reminding myself that, ‘You had a baby, Kel.’ But I was hard on myself. I really was.”

And in the interview as with the book, the mom to 2-year old son Titan doesn’t hold back. Nothing’s off the table. Incontinence, vaginal tearing, check! and check!

In the book, she referred to herself looking at her lady parts in the mirror after giving birth”the world’s worst idea!”

Your vajayjay does not look the same for a very long time,” she told openly shared, noting that a friend told her that her husband wouldn’t care. “‘But, I care about it.’ We go to get it all done up and trimmed and waxed and this and that and it’s all swollen and crazy and you’re just wondering what just happened?”

It’s a very raw discussion in the book, it seems. She also talks mom guilt and more. Check out the full interview HERE!

rob and chyna

January Jones, Kim Zolciak, Alicia Silverstone, Padma Lakshmi, Mayim Bialik and Tamera Mowry did it and now Blac Chyna will be the next celebrity to eat her baby’s placenta after she gives birth.

The future Angela Kardashian revealed this tidbit during an interview on her BFF Amber Rose’s podcast, Play. It’s Loveline with Amber Rose on Wednesday, September 14.

“I feel like with my second baby, I’m more educated than the first one,” the former model told Rose “Just reading and knowing the pros of breast-feeding for your baby, and just recently I found out some new, cool stuff about not cutting the cord and sending your placenta; you can get these pills to take them after to make you and the baby healthy.”

She will also join company with her future sisters in law Kim Kardashian West and Kourtney Kardashian who also revealed that they took placenta pills.

Chyna is expecting her second child with fiance Rob Kardashian. She has a son named King with ex-fiance rapper Tyga, who coincidentally is currently dating her future sister-in-law Kylie Jenner.  See this neat E! Chart

I give it up to Tia Mowry who ate her sister Tamera Mowry’s placenta. She gets props as the only one to eat someone else’s placenta!

#PhilandoCastile and #AltonSterling: Celeb Moms Who’ve Spoken Out About Killings

Tonight, we’ve reached a tipping point in America as several Dallas police officers were killed during a rally to protest recent police shootings. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those men and women who put their lives at risk daily to protect and serve.

Here is a rundown of what sparked the rally followed by solidarity messages from celeb women we’ve featured on the blog:

Within 48 hours, two black men in “concealed weapon license to carry” states exercising their rights to have guns in their pockets were nonetheless shot and killed by police officers. Both killings, one execution style and the other in front of a 4-year old child during a routine traffic stop, has sparked outrage.

Alton Sterling was selling CDs outside of a grocery store in a high crime neighborhood and exercising his Second Amendment rights as an American, carried a weapon to protect himself. Someone reported to the police that Sterling had it out waving at people and after scuffle with the officers who arrived at the scene and eventually took Sterling down, another took out his revolver and emptied a couple of rounds into Sterling’s body before falling off the man’s chest and shooting a few more shots. The store owner and another eyewitness filmed the shootings on their smartphones and circulated it on social media. The outrage has been swift.

That same night, another man, Philando Castile, was driving with his girlfriend Diamond Reynolds and her 4-year old daughter in the backseat when he was pulled over for a busted tail light. Diamond turned on her Facebook Live and shared the incident as it happened with her followers on the social media site. The world was witness to the moments immediately after one officer shot him as he reached into his pocket to pull out his driver’s license as asked to do so by the officer, per Reynold’s account. The officer can be overheard on the video saying “ignorance”.

As with other past police killings of unarmed black men and boys, many parents have been shaken by the incident especially parents of young black boys. In social media, many have expressed fear that when their children grow up, they will be seen as menacing threats simply for being in the skin they were born in and could be the next hashtag.

I know personally, I’ve talked to my kids again as my husband and I do periodically throughout their lives to make sure they are aware what they need to do to escape a possible police encounter alive. My father in law is a retired veteran police detective and my husband’s uncle was a police officer. We fear for the lives of blue and believe Blue Lives Matter as well, but at the same time, we are frightened by the pattern of brutality among some officers.

That 4Moms Origami Stroller is a Celebrity Fave

origami stroller

It’s been a long while since I last did my most expensive baby stroller post and since then the market has exploded with some amazing strollers.

One of the top strollers known and widely loved by tech aficionados is the  4moms Origami Stroller. It’s loved because it take the  stress out of traveling about with your kid. I mean it folds and unfolds automatically when you press a button and comes equipped with tech features like a built-in phone charger, thermometer, mileage counter, and LED headlights. If you had any doubt that this is the Rolex of strollers, the Origami Stroller even charges itself as you walk!

It’s on the pricey side but if you can afford it you’ll join the likes of a bunch of celebs who have been photographed out and about with their kids in them. about $850!

Kourtney Kardashian, Rachel Zoe, Tia Mowry, Kim Zolciak, Bethenny Frankel, Melanie Brown, Denise Richards, Kim Zolciak, Neil Patrick Harris and Mario Lopez all have been seen pushing their tots in it.

Eco-Friday: How to have a Baby Clothes Swap Party

Personally, I have attended a couple of clothing/closet swap parties for adults where girlfriends get together, take turns and shop each others’ clothes that we won’t wear any longer. It is a trendy and economical way to get “new” clothes without breaking the bank and swapping out your wardrobe.
In these tough economic times, purchasing new clothes for an impending arrival, especially for families on a budget and with more than one child, is not always an option. Organizing a baby swap is a very wonderful way for everyone to save a buck and get some new stuff. Here are some tips I gleaned from online research:

Step 1 – Select a date.

  •  Based on your schedule and your family’s schedule, select a date that best works for you.
  •  From there, decide if your swap will host both kids and adults – this will also help in determining the time of your swap (daytime vs. nighttime), the food, the activities, etc.

Step 2 – Declutter.

  • Get the word out about your Clothing Swap house party sooner rather than later. This gives everyone ample time to clean out their closets and find items to swap.
  •  Make sure to invite your  guests three-to-four weeks in advance. With your invites, give your guests the following instructions:

What to bring:
Kids clothes and accessories in all sizes that are wearable and freshly laundered.
Most swap-worthy items fall into 3 categories

  • NEW Clothes (with tags)
  • NEARLY NEW Clothes (worn only once or twice)
  • GENTLY USED Clothes (worn, but still in very good condition)

What NOT to bring:
Out of respect for fellow swappers and your community, please do not bring ripped, dirty, stained items, those with broken zippers, or otherwise unwearable.
Note that all unclaimed items can be donated to a host selected non-profit or cause.
Step 3 – Prepare for your party.
You can create a successful swap by designating different areas of your home for different articles of clothing or different children’s clothes sizes. For example, your living room might be the location for all clothes for newborns, while the bedroom might have clothes for toddlers.
Set up different tables clearly labeled with sizes or type of clothing to help your guests “organize” when they arrive.
Mirrors, racks and hangers are helpful but not required

Hope this is helpful.
And sidebar: it was refreshing to see Tia Mowry Hardrict  and Tamera Mowry-Housley balk at a pricey bottle of olive oil in that episode earlier and second guess a decision to pay $80 for some flimsy resort wear an episode before when they went to the Bahamas. So many times on reality TV shows, we have women, who may not necessarily be independently wealthy, make so many outlandish shopping purchases flagrantly and without any regard to the final price. You’ll see the camera zoom in to a total that is 500th times what an average family would pay or even earn in a month. Many times, they can’t really even afford the crap but do it for the cameras and show. It’s so great that Tia and Tamera don’t buy into that and reveal that even though they may earn more as actresses, they watch their pennies and wallets and refuse to succumb to extravagant spending. It’s a great lesson and good to see. The truly wealthy people on this earth do not spend extraneously as “new money” people do and that is the reason they remain wealthy. Okay. Off my soap box now! 🙂

Tina and Erica Campbell and Tia and Tamera Mowry: Update on Reality TV show sisters who had back-to-back pregnancies

Since we recently caught up with the new babies from moms we “bumpwatched” in 2013, we thought we’d also catch up with the two sisters whose back-to-back pregnancies we kept up on via on their respective cable network reality TV shows.

Tia Mowry Hardrict was pregnant with now 2-year old son Cree a season before their her hit show Style channel reality TV show Tia and Tamera chronicled her sister Tamera Mowry-Housley’s pregnacy with now 9-months old Aden.  Likewise, Erica Atkins Campbell was pregnant with now 1 year old daughter Zaya Monique a season before her sister  Tina Atkins Campbell  was featured pregnant with her last child, son,  Santana, now 10 month  old.
We got to see super cute Aden this week on Tamera’s new panel talk show The Real when the tiny tot was brought out to calm the fears of a pregnant woman fearful of becoming a mother.

Her sister recently posted a series of nostalgic baby pics of her now 2-year old son Cree Taylor Hardrict on the blog they both share on his birthday a few weeks back. How handsome and big that boy has gotten huh. Too cute!  Love the cousins’ curls!

Meanwhile, the  other reality TV show moms who we did back to back bumpwatch of, Tina and Erica Atkins-Campbell also shared photos of their latest arrivals. (also sadly, we offer condolences to the two on the recent passing of their dad Eddie Atkins, Jr). The two also have decided to take a break from the group to pursue solo efforts.
In a March 2013 photo, Erica and the entire family, including now 1-year old Zaya Monique, her dad Warryn Campbell, big brother Warryn III and big sis  Krista smile big for the camera.
She’s grown a lot since  being debuted on The Wendy Williams show last year.
We also got a peak at Tina’s son Santana, born last August 4th, 2012.
Santana Campbell
…and again with mom and siblings Lailah, Meela and Glendon Theodore this March before the season 3 premiere of their WE TV hit show  Mary Mary
Missing is half-sister, Cierra, dad’s biological daughter from a previous relationship.
Awesome goodness!

Tia Mowry goes nude (but for lettuce) for PETA and Veganism

PETA/Robert Sebree
Tia Mowry, a Bellyitch Blog fave, is seen showing off a healthy and svelte frame in PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)’s latest campaign promoting veganism.
In the now active ad, the WE TV  star of Tia and Tamera is seen wearing an apron made of lettuce made by Mia Gyzander.
She told Essence that she converted to veganism after witnessing health-related illnesses in her own family and wanted to be the voice convincing members of her own community to consider the eating lifestyle change.

“That’s one of the main reasons why I decided to be a part of this PETA ad campaign because I wanted to educate my culture about the benefits of becoming vegan,” said the former The Game actress who will star on Nickelodean‘s Insant Mom this fall.  “There’s a stigma about being vegan. Some people say it doesn’t taste great or it doesn’t taste good—don’t knock it until you try it!”
Cool. As a twice-before vegan, I can dig it.  Tia’s reality TV show with her sister Tamera Mowry-Hardrict premieres its third season this Sunday, July 14.
Your thoughts? Are you a vegan? Vegetarian? Pescetarean? Would you consider making the switch? For health reasons, maybe?

Too Skinny After Baby: New Celebrity Moms Face Fan backlash for losing too much weight

Usually, glossy magazines parade super svelte and skinny new and recent moms on their covers as examples of what you are supposed to look like after having a baby.
But the presentation is not realistic, neither ideal. Even when the stars take several months and over a year to get down to a super thin frame, fans don’t always accept the final output.
That is what can be said of the majority of fans responding to photos that past Bellyitch “bumpwatched” mom Tia Mowry Hardrict and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi posted on their Facebook pages, yesterday and today, respectively.
Most of those choosing to reply to Tia encouraging fans to visit her blog and check out her green juice recipe and Snooki telling them “this is what 9 months of hard work looks like” by urging the celebrities to stop losing so much weight, and essentially rejecting their very thin new bodies.
A few lamented how they preferred the stars a few pounds heavier.
Is this a turning of the tide and an appreciation for less skinny stars? Do the demands of Hollywood and the cameras conflict with what audiences want compared to what directors and TV producers prefer? Or is this just the usual response of fickle audiences?
Certainly, sometimes when a star gains weight, they are met with criticism like what Kim Kardashian faced when she gained a few pounds during her current pregnancy.
Hardrict gave birth to her first child, son Cree, in June 2011. Snooki had her son Lorenzo last August. Both took several months to pare down to their current weight so it isn’t as if they snapped back that quickly.
Darned if you do…I guess. What are your thoughts?

Snooki confirms she is writing a pregnancy advice book

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi will become the latest celebrity mom to pen a pregnancy book after having just one baby:
This weekend in reply to a Twitter fan who told her she “needs to write a pregnancy book”, Snooki replied “Working on it.”
While still pregnant with her now almost two-year old son Cree, Tia Mowry penned a pregnancy advice book called Oh, Baby!: Pregnancy Tales and Advice from One Hot Mama to AnotherBellyitch met her during a book signing event in between her gig at The Game and filming her Style channel reality TV show Tia and Tamera. It has been well received by fans and new moms alike.
Similarly, Entertainment tonight TV hostess, journalist and frequent red carpet walker Nancy O’Dell published Full of Life: Mom-to-Mom Tips I Wish Someone Had Told Me When I Was Pregnantin 2009.
Years earlier, actress and former Playboy model Jenny McCarthy wroteBelly Laughs: The Naked Truth about Pregnancy and Childbirthshortly after giving birth to her son, Evan in 2005. Many people considered it a hilarious take on pregnancy and enjoyed the book.
Mom of five, actress, innkeeper, reality -TV star and author, Tori Spelling wrote a book Mommywood
which was really about life as a Hollywood mom but included snapshots of her pregnancy.  It wasn’t really an advice book as the others were.
Snooki already has three  books out including,A Shore Thinga fiction book based on her life which made the New York Times best-sellers list. She has also released to less sales: Confessions of a Guidette, a non-fiction guide book and Gorilla Beach, a sequel to A Shore Thing.
The girl knows audiences will buy her stuff and there are plenty of young girls who may indeed snatch this book off the shelves as well. *sigh*
