Which actress and in what full length feature film was there a character who was pregnant in it throughout, but never delivered her baby by movie’s end?
The answer after the jump
In 1996, the very talented actress Frances McDormand played pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson in FARGO. McDormand, who was adopted by a Canadian minister as a kid, did a brilliant job portraying a tenacious chief of Brainerd, MN who solves three murders by the end of the movie, cuts out the lights and rolls her pregnant self back to bed. In this dark, macabre, dramedy, that had some strange characters, it is the first time in a feature film that writers, director and producers placed a pregnant woman in a film not for the cliche purpose of having that mad rush to the hospital scene where she ultimately delivers. The pregnancy was chief’s Gunderson’s state but was not a featured element of the plot.
It was so great, McDormand won an OSCAR for her performance for BEST ACTRESS that year! WOOT!!
