A vending machine at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania permits students to purchase the highly contentious and controversial Plan B One Step, euphemistically called the “Morning After Pill” because it has an up to 89 % chance of preventing pregnancy if taken within 24 hours of rape, condom failure or forgetting to take a birth control pill.
Current Federal law limits access to Plan Bl without prescription and permission for minors under 17. Controversy erupted recently when the Obama administration overturned a Federal Drug Administration decision to make the pill available on drug store shelves to all users. A top official resigned over the call and it’s still a contentious issue.
Shippensburg University officials said the student body voted to make the $25 pill available in a machine that also contains condoms, decongestants and pregnancy tests. It is in the health center which serves the 8300 students that attend the secluded public college in the mountains of Cumberland Valley.
Some students support the machine saying it would save them a trip of traveling all the way into town to get it if needed. Administrators said that it is highly unlikely for a kid under 17 to just waltz in off the street and purchase the pill in their vending machine, but hey thanks to all this new publicity about its potentially illegal availability, maybe more younguns might just do that! Who knows!
I think, if the feds haven’t already made their way down to that university, they may very soon! heh! Read more about this story HERE.
