Halle Berry was at the California state capitol this Tuesday, June 26 trying to expand the laws of harassment that also governs paparazzi to prohibit them from stalking children of celebrities in public places. If enacted, those caught violating the law could face up to a year in jail.
“My daughter doesn’t want to go to school because she knows ‘the men’ are watching for her,” The Call actress told the Assembly Committee on Public Safety. “They jump out of the bushes and from behind cars and who knows where else, besieging these children just to get a photo.”
Democratic State Senator Kevin de Leon asked Berry to testify in support of the anti-harassment bill as a “mother of a daughter and the baby boy in my belly.”
The X-Men actress added, “If it passes, the quality of my life and my children’s lives will be dramatically changed.”
Berry and her fiance Olivier Martinez are expecting their first child together, a son. Berry is mom to 5-year old Nahla from a previous relationship with model Gabriel Aubry.
