We asked Juieanna Hever host of Veria channel’s What Would Julieanna Do? to offer our first time moms-to-be some insights into her top three tips for surviving pregnancy.
Hever, who is a mom and pens the best-selling book “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition“, suggests pregnant women:
1. Keep up with exercise through pregnancy. The best time of day to exercise when pregnant is anytime you feel good and energized, Hever said. “Some women feel best in the morning, while others suffer from nausea mostly in the morning, so may benefit from exercising later on,” the author and speaker said. “The key is to get your workout in consistently, regardless of what time of day… It will help maintain energy and support your body as it changes throughout pregnancy and to help prepare your body for labor and delivery.”
2. Take advantage of their social support system. There are many sources for support, including partners, family and tons of websites and books. “ Reach out to people that have been there before,” she adds. “The more you can communicate the more they can support you.” Along with the chapter in her book on exercising, Hever also recommends “The Everything Vegan Pregnancy Book” by Reed Mangles. That’s a fitting recommendation for a woman who is known as the moniker The Plant-Based Dietician.
3. Take time to relax each day. Meditation is key. “Meditate for even just a few short minutes a day and allow yourself to take a nap when necessary,” the certified personal trainer adds. “Creating a baby takes a ton of energy and it is okay to honor that and take some time for yourself to regroup.”
