Last night, I got a chance to check out The Best Man Holiday, the much anticipated sequel to the 1999 pop culture cult film The Best Man. In it, the ensemble cast of college friends who reunite for a marriage of two circle members in the first movie, reassemble once again over the Christmas holiday. Audiences are reintroduced to the personable and likable group of characters.
Acclaimed film actress Sanaa Lathan (whose dad is famed veteran director Stan Lathan), returns in this Malcolm Lee drama with comedic interludes as Robyn, the encouraging girlfriend of the movie’s protagonist, Harper (Taye Diggs). The two got engaged at the end of the last movie and in this installment, Robyn is 9 months pregnant!

Without giving too much away about the pregnancy or other plot lines, it is notable that Robyn’s character struggled with fertility issues and series of miscarriages. But after what was eluded to was a still born birth, it was just great to see some of the cute looks they outfitted Lathan’s silicon bump in all movie.
Our other past Bellyitch Bumpwatch babe Nia Long did an excellent job as Jordan and her co stars Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Terrence Howard and others.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie for it’s feel good qualities, the great story and the emotional and realistic relationship ups and downs that are presented well in the film.
Despite a rushed ending full of movie cliche’s, it was overall a great effort and again, it was so cute to see Lathan pregnant — even if for pretend.
Go see it! It looks like it may open and surpass Thor which also opens this weekend. Well fancy that. Ensemble drama/comedy beats action movie?
That would a feat!
