I know I am late but I just discovered #SelfieSunday!
It is the day of the week on social media sites like Instagram and Twitter where users can photograph themselves and share with their followers and friends.
I LOVE IT!
I love it not because I am an avid Selfie-taker but because in OLD MEDIA, we all had to rely on an exclusive list of producers, photographers, magazine editors and content creators to tell all of us whose image was worthy of being broadcast for mass consumption.
Most of us didn’t fit into the very narrow definition of what features were worthy.
In our NEW MEDIA era, WE are all in control.
And in viral user-created campaigns like a “selfie Sunday”, we all get a chance to show ourselves self-love and let the world know we think we too are attractive and look great!
And for those naysayers and non- believers who think the practice of taking a selfie encourages narcissism or vanity, I say if you don’t like seeing thousand of people affirm themselves in photos, then shut off your computer and go read a book.
Get off of social media!
The key word is ” social” and without people sharing diverse images and content and engaging others in dialogue and exchange, what is the purpose?
So you girl or guy- go grab your cameraphone And get to snapping and posting!!
