Last year, close to 308 million people in the US shopped on Black Friday weekend, spending more than $59.1 billion. Much of that spending is in major stores like Old Navy, Walmart, Best Buy and other large retailers.
Today, customers are encouraged to head to their local small and family-owned shops to patronize them too for Small Business Saturday.
Many businesses say the after Thanksgiving weekend account for up to 40% of their annual sales and there is no reason locally-owned and operated shops shouldn’t benefit from that also.
Each year, President Barack Obama celebrates the day by taking his daughters to buy books at local DC book stores.
And if one is inclined, they can combine cyber Monday and Small Business Saturday by heading over to the Amazon and Etsy shops where many small businesses sell their wares.
