It was a mixture of Slendesta (a protein inhibitor which enhances the body’s natural release of CCK and Propolmannan (a “super fiber” that is so much more durable than normal fiber that it stays in tact inside the digestive tract and thickens with the water in your stomach to create the feeling of fullness.). Smith discovered a non-invasive alternative to gastric bypass or some other bariatric surgery. The filling up feeling has the same effect of having a stapled tummy. Six months after the dramatic drop in weight, Smith got together a team of food scientists and beverage specialists to reformulate his experiment for mass production and sale. Thus Bystrictin was birthed.
So I’m on a quest to look as svelte and trim as I did in 2009 (see above), which was 2 years AFTER giving birth to my third and last child. It’s been a challenge, even with exercising and trying to eat healthy. With each passing year, it becomes harder and harder to shed unwanted pounds and keep it off.
I was therefore elated to check out the Bystrictin appetite control shake, when offered, initially to dads of pregnant women experiencing sympathy weight. Because I’m not pregnant and don’t plan on being so ever again, I jumped at the opportunity to test out the product for myself for 14 days. (No other compensation was received for the review other than the value of the 2-week sample.)
Bystrictin essentially is a yummy shake (in Vanilla Bean or Swiss Chocolate) that you mix (1 scoop of powder) with 8 ounces of water, skim, soy or almond milk drink as a meal replacement once or twice a day. The ingredients expand in the tummy giving off the feeling of being full. The fiber in the drink expands up to 50 times in size and creates a filling gel, which is what promotes the feeling of fullness.
Also, it suppresses the appetite tremendously.
The main and active ingredient is a proprietary complex that includes a patented and clinically-studied ingredients in Bariaxin.
After a few days, I noticed I no longer wanted to eat and actually had to force myself to. It was probably the effect of the protein-inhibitors in the shake that releases a hormone in the body called Cholecystokinin (CCK), which is the body’s “fullness hormone”.
A guy named Allen Smith started the company during his own relatively recent weight-loss journey. Experimenting with some natural weight-loss ingredients, he put together a formula, and managed to drop 55 pounds and keep it off for over a year.
The shakes were sufficient to make me feel full for the morning or all afternoon. You are allowed a low-calorie snack every 2- 3 hours like popcorn or fruit in between meals. Ideally, one should constantly eat round the clock to keep the metabolism going.
In sum, it could easily make one drop tremendous weight because you’d be reducing your caloric intake so drastically when substituting one for the shake.
Bystrictin seems to be a great way to kick start a long term diet or lifestyle regimen, or slim down quickly for a wedding, high school reunion, a beach vacation, or red carpet event. I would imagine, it is a hard diet to stay on for the long term.
Further, after a while, the body acclimates and the effects could wear off or not work as much. Nonetheless, its makers, Century Sciences, doesn’t recommend it for long term use anyway.
No one should ever consider a mainly-liquid diet for life, also, I don’t think. It’s just not natural in my opinion. Please note Oprah Winfrey’s first extreme slim down was a liquid diet and well…you know, that came back with a vengence later.
But for the short term or as a kick-starter, definitely!
I noticed a precipitous drop in weight the few days (about 6 pounds) after I started taking the shakes but the BIGGEST impact for me was the appetite suppressant effect. Even after I stopped taking the product, I still could noticed I didn’t have the same level of appetite as before taking the shakes. I don’t know if that is just me or if all who take it will feel the same.
The makers do not recommend taking it while pregnant or breastfeeding yet they state they do not think it interferes with the effects of birth control medication. Among side effects: a few people may experience some gas, loos stools or diarrhea that may subside after a few days and can be greatly reduced by drinking lots of water.
Not sure what long term effects, if any, the product would have and cannot vouch or guarantee any sustained weight loss, but so far, it appears to be a reasonable solution for those looking for some weight loss alternatives and willing to give it a try.

Wish me luck trying to get back to looking like THIS. Oh boy! 2014, here I come!
