Cull Outgrown Clothing Regularly
Whether you’re sentimental and loath to part with the clothing that documents each of your child’s developmental stages or simply haven’t had the time to tackle the mounds of outgrown clothing your child owns, the first step to creating an organized, clutter-free closet for your youngster is to cull everything that no longer fits or is damaged, and to repeat the process periodically to keep old-clothes collections from getting out of hand again. Donating serviceable items to local charities, selling them to a consignment store, or even passing them along to friends and relatives as hand-me-downs will keep perfectly good items from going to waste and also get them out of your house once and for all. If you’re collecting clothing for sentimental reasons, the process can be a bit more complicated. Paring down the collection of clothes that you’re saving to only those with real milestones attached can help; the outfit she came home from the hospital in, the dress from her first birthday party, or what she wore on her first day of school are great keepsakes. All of the outgrown scraps of play clothes and novelty t-shirts, however, will only serve to clutter some area of your home. Getting rid of things that have no specific sentimental value can help you make room for new things, make it easier to organize her current wardrobe, and give the gift of much-needed clothing to less fortunate children.
Rotate Seasonal Items
If you know that your child won’t be wearing shorts in January, make a habit of switching out his wardrobe seasonally. Unless you live in an extremely temperate, mild climate, short sleeves and sandals probably won’t see much use during the winter months, so make room for the heavy jackets and sweaters of winter by moving summer clothing into storage. When it’s time to pull clothing out of storage and rotate back to the warm-weather items, make sure you take the opportunity to cull anything he’s outgrown over the winter. When the things in his closet are things he uses, rather than things that lurk at the back and unnecessarily take up space, it’s easier to maintain an organizational system.
Invest in an Organizational System
While handy parents can build shelving systems that are customized to the specific dimensions of their child’s closet, those that are a bit less talented in the construction arts may want to consider investing in a ready-made system to make the job of organizing a bit easier. In most cases, these systems can be adjusted and modified as your child grows and his needs change, making them worth the money and easy to maintain over the years. Bins, shelves and adjustable rods make it easier to compartmentalize your child’s clothing and shoes in a way that works for your family.
Space-Saving Solutions
Opting for space-saving choices like hanging complete outfits on one hanger not only makes more room in your child’s closet, it can also save a significant amount of time during his morning routine by eliminating the need to locate coordinating items. Cascading hangers that hold several articles of clothing, hanging organizers that add quick shelving to a closet that has only a rod, and bins for storing shoes and other items are all great and cost-effective space-saving solutions that can make your organizational project run more smoothly.
Keep Clothes in Kids’ Reach
When your child is learning to dress himself and is exploring his burgeoning independence, you’ll want to make sure that he can reach all of his clothing to foster that independence and ability to manage simple tasks on his own. As you’re conceptualizing your organizational system for his closet, building it around the idea of keeping the things he needs most within his reach can create a clean, clutter-free space that he’s able to use without adult assistance.
A belated congratulations to actor Rockmond Dunbar from The Mentalist on the birth of his daughter, Berkeley Seon.
Dunbar, known for his role in the Showtime TV show Soul Food and Prison Break tweeted the news:
“Mom is doing great,” he tweeted on December 6. “We are absolutely in LOVE with our daughter.”
His wife, actress Maya Gilbert Dunbar stars in this season of Banshee on Cinemax. The couple got engaged in December 2012 and married in June 2013.
Back in October, Dunbar had to clear up with his Twitter followers that Maya had not yet given birth after they misinterpreted his “praise” tweet.
Last September, Dunbar’s co-stars (Vanessa Williams, Boris Kodjoe and spouse/co-star Nicole Ari Parker and Malinda Williams) from the serial sitcom spun off the hit cult classic move Soul Food came out to help him celebrate the impending arrival at a baby shower for Maya.

It has been 10 years since I last posted the annual Bellyitch Most Expensive Strollers post. It was a yearly blog post staple and used to get tons of traffic because, honestly, I think people, generally, are obsessed with knowing what baby items are used and coveted by the super wealthy and celebrities.
Since the last post, a few stroller companies have gone out of business. RIP to Orbit, Maclaren and newer brands 4Moms and iCandy, which were once considered “it” strollers in their day but no longer manufacture luxury strollers.
In 2013, I published the list as part of the Bellyitch 100, a book of the top crib makers, maternity wear designers, stroller makers and baby clothes brands.
Anyway, so I used to publish the Most Expensive Strollers list at a time when I was raising a young family and brands would boast that they were on the list.
My social circle at the time included professional working women, stay-at-home moms, and mom bloggers, several who were affluent and looked at the stroller as a status symbol.
Here is another secret about what happens among moms at the park, at the school pick up lot, in the mall and other social places where mommies congregate. They check out what strollers they’re pushing a baby or child in and make judgments.
Yes, there is a definite hierarchy in quality of strollers and believe me when I tell you that certainly check out what stroller another mom’s child is being pushed in and make judgments.
When I was raising my children as a young lawyer, I went through 6 strollers, which is a low number considering many of my friends at the tiem had way more.
Our first stroller was a Peg Perego which converts from a baby carriage or pram to a push stroller. At the time, it was among the best. Then, when my first born turned into a toddler, we ordered the Inglesina Swift umbrella stroller from the Italian stroller manufacturer. It had a great run!
To pair with the Inglesina, a sturdy Italian brand, we got a lower cost Combi umbrella stroller for travel, a stroller we could beat up which was so much less that so that we wouldn’t mind if it got lost by the airline or damaged during travel.
Then, when I was expecting baby #2, I got as an amazing shower gift from my co-workers at my old job: a Peg Prerego Aria double stroller!
By the time baby number 3 rolled around, the Inglesina had hit the dirt, we left the Combi on some island we visited for vacation once and we had loaned out the Peg Perego Buggy to relatives who didn’t take good care of it.
The wheels on the double gave out and we opted to give to Goodwill rather than try to fix it or get the company to repair it.
We opted for a lesss expensive Graco Snug Ride for Baby #3 and a B.OB. jogging stroller (the air-filled jogger stroller with hand activated rear wheel brakes that can ride smooth on any terrain) when I was ready to get back in shape.
Now, while we didn’t get any of them to make a statement, I have had many moms and dads comment on the pricier high end ones while walking in the parks, malls etc. People are always looking for a status symbol and there is a preconception that most expensive means the best!
It’s no wonder, you can see celebrities strolling their children in many of those on this list. The celebrities know that too. That is why Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony sued Silver Cross from publishing on their website an unauthorized endorsement which featured a People magazine photo of them pushing their twins in two Silver Cross prams.
People flock to buy whatever celebrities purchase and that stroller companies know that endorsement mean lots for their bottom line.
Anyhoo, on to the list. Of course, as a disclaimer, this list is not exhaustive. As usual, this list is based on my own personal research and I urge readers to point out other vehicles that should grace this list. Certainly, I would amend the post to reflect corrections.
In the meantime, check out this year’s list of “it” strollers pushed by the most Poshest of moms and celebs out there (I’m updating this list with a few more after the initial post so come back and ping me on Twitter if you don’t see one you think should be on this list)

Becoming a mom is one of the toughest things that you will ever have to do. It’s rough on your body physically and mentally. Yet, it’s also one of the most rewarding things that you can do. When you’re about to become a parent, you have a million things racing through your mind. You can’t prepare for everything that’s going to happen. There are a million little things about parenthood that you can’t know until you have the experience yourself. However, there are a lot of little things that you can do to get ready.
For example, as your due date approaches, you can pack an overnight hospital bag. Fill it up with all of the things that you’re going to need to make your stay more comfortable.
Here are a few ideas you can work with.
Notebook
You may want to write down your thoughts while you’re at the hospital. Everything is digital now, but some people still feel connected to pen and paper. If everything goes smoothly, your written words can be used to recall a wonderful moment in your life. If there’s a problem, suddenly you have an extra record of what happened.
According to Canadian personal injury lawyers Mazin and Associates: “The nature of a birth injury claim means that there are many details that must be investigated. Proving a birth injury case is complex and takes a significant amount of preparation.” Click here to learn more about what you can do if this occurs.
Makeup
Okay. We get it. The day you give birth, the last thing that should be on your mind is your looks. However, people are probably going to be taking pictures of you. There’s nothing wrong with deciding to go makeup-free. But there’s also nothing wrong with applying a fresh coat before the cameras start clicking. If you do want to put on a little bit of makeup, pack everything that you may want into your overnight bag. That way, you won’t have to think about it again.
Snacks
Hospital food is notoriously bland. It’s only a few steps above regular cafeteria food. Yet, after you give you birth, you might be ravenously hungry. Instead of forcing your partner to make a fast-food run, you can come prepared with snacks. It may be the first thing that you put in your mouth after you give birth. Try to bring your favorite snacks. You may not have eaten them for the past nine months.
Champagne
You may have spent the last nine months abstaining from alcohol. Now that you’re body is your own again, you may want to celebrate with a drink. A post-birth glass of champagne is popular for many women. If you decide to go this route, however, you have to be prepared in advance. Champagne, wine, etc., are all popular choices. You won’t be able to buy it at the hospital.
Chargers
If you’re going to have multiple cell phones, as well as tablets or perhaps laptops, you need to bring the right chargers. It would be very annoying if your phone died right when you wanted to take pictures. If you forget to do this, you may be able to get a charger at the hospital. But it would be one more thing to worry about.
Clothes
Hospital gowns are comfortable yet you may be glad to throw it off as soon as possible. You have to have a spare change of clothes ready for that moment. Try to go for comfort rather than sex appeal. You will likely feel very under the weather. It takes a long time to fully recover from giving birth.
Books and Magazines
Giving birth can take a long time. There’s not a lot for you to do for most of it. To keep yourself from going crazy with boredom, pack books and magazines into your overnight bag. They will help keep your mind entertained while you’re waiting. It’s not unusual for women to be in labor for more than 10 hours. Anything that you can do to make the process easier on yourself should be investigated.
Your overnight bag is a source of joy. It’s a sign of what’s to come, the next adventure in your life. You can keep packing it and repacking it until it’s perfect. Ideally, it would be ready at least a week or two before your due date. You don’t want to go into labor early and be unprepared.

Whether you’re a spouse, family member or friend, the birth of a new baby is always a joy. To celebrate this joyous occasion, it’s natural to want to shower both baby and mom with plenty of gifts.
Ideally, your gift should be both heartfelt and thoughtful. However, in a market saturated with baby gifts, it can be difficult to make a choice. Not all of us are particularly great at gifting. While the thought really does count, buying the new mum a wrong gift is a major boo-boo.
Oftentimes, new mums are inundated with baby shoes and clothes amongst others. Get to know the mother first and who knows, maybe she is a sports fan and you can give her a themed baby gift. You would be surprised, but since we are in the NFL preseason, do you know the American football league has a section for toddlers, with bodysuits that have the badge or logo of the different teams?
But what about mum herself? Doesn’t she deserve to enjoy herself to? To lend you a hand, here are some great gifting ideas for the new mum.
1. Gift cards
While not the most original, gift cards allow the new mum to buy herself or baby something nice. After the initial stress of childbirth, she should be allowed to reward herself. For a different take, you can also put together an assortment of gift cards for the new mum. This allows her to pick and choose gifts for her and the baby.
2. A spa session
While we can all agree that childbirth is a beautiful thing, the entire experience often leaves new mums drained and tired. This is why a comprehensive spa session may be just what the doctor ordered. From relaxing deep tissue massages to cleansing body scrubs, she’ll leave the spa feeling refreshed and energized.
3. The Amazon Echo Dot
Chances are mum’s gonna have her hands full caring for her bundle of joy. Why not lend her a hand with the Amazon Echo Dot, a voice-controlled virtual assistant. With the Echo Dot, let Alexa lend a hand around the house. Whether you’re making appointments with the pediatrician or checking the weather, the Echo Dot is a great gift for tech-savvy mummies out there.
4. Personalized clothing
The birth of a child should be a commemorative affair for the entire household. For something a bit special, personalized clothing like a t-shirt for mum and a jumper for baby are a great choice. The t-shirt and jumper can have baby’s name and date of birth or something cutesy like a picture embroidered on.
5. A yoga mat
Post-birth, mum would most likely be very eager to shed off those pounds. So why not help her out by giving her with a yoga mat. Yoga is a low-impact form of exercise that helps new mum’s shed weight. Along with this, yoga helps to relax the mind and reduce stress, all of which would be extremely helpful for a new mother.
6. Baby car seat
For any parent, the safety and wellbeing of their child is number one. This is even more so for the mum and dad of a newborn baby. Give them the gift of safety with a top-quality baby car seat. These car seats are designed to transport a new-born baby safely and comfortably thus giving mum or dad peace of mind when they’re on the road.
7. Baby accessories
Besides being absolutely adorable, baby accessories also ensure that baby is warm and comfortable at all times. With their weak immune systems, it’s fairly easy for a newborn child to catch a chill. A baby cap will protect the little one from catching a chill while baby mittens will protect him/her from accidentally scratching themselves.
8. Maternity bras
Nursing the newborn baby can be a challenge for any mum as breastfeeding can mean sore or tender breasts. So, give her all the support she needs with a quality maternity bra. These bras are specially designed to be soft and easy to wear while also making feeding baby a cinch.

Congrats!
Congratulations to Jessica Simpson and her husband, former NFL quarterback, Eric Johnson on the birth of their third child on Wednesday, Birdie Mae.
Simpson announced the news about the newest arrival on her Instagram page.
“We are so happy and proud to announce the birth of our perfect daughter, Birdie Mae Johnson,” Simpson wrote captioned a black and white photo of her daughter meeting her baby sister on Instagram on Wednesday.
Baby Birdie weighed 10 lbs., 13 oz.
We love Simpson for keeping it all the way real this pregnancy by posting photos of her swollen feet, unflattering pics of her growing bulbous pregnant belly and make up less pics.
The fashion line entrepreneur even recently made fun of herself for breaking the family toilet seat.
The Dukes of Hazard reboot star has been royally rewarded by fans who have consistently commented that they are happy to see a celebrity keep it 100 about the very unglamorous aspects of pregnancy.
Congrats!
The new baby joins The Johnsons’ older kids, 5-year old son Ace Knute, 5, and 6 1/2-year old daughter Maxwell “Maxi” Drew.
Her daughter makes the third celeb we’ve “bumpwatched” to name her child Birdie!
LOVE LOVE THAT NAME !!!!
WWE and Totally Divas star Brie Bella and actress and late night talk show host Busy Phillips‘ daughters are named Birdie.
