50+ Celebrities who have had Miscarriages

When news leaks too early that a celebrity woman is pregnant and then she never confirms it, then fails to advance in the pregnancy, there is a high possibility that she might have had a miscarriage.

Since our blog post in 2007 about celebrity miscarriages and the taboo surrounding the topic, many more other sites have reported on celebrity miscarriages and more celebs themselves have been open about discussing a loss that happens in 1 in every 4 pregnancies or among 25% of women.

After TV host and journalist Lisa Ling came out about suffering through one herself, she added a category to her website encouraging women to share their miscarriage stories.

If more women, including celebrities, knew how common miscarriage is and how many have dealt with and suffered through it, but survived, they may be better able to cope if and when it happens to them.

To help that process along, here is a pretty comprehensive listing of all the celebrities we’ve found quoted to have had at least one miscarriage before going on to have a successful pregnancy, adopting, having a child via surrogacy or not at all.

Feel free to comment or add anyone we’ve left off

10 celebrities who enjoyed sponsored baby showers

Danielle Jonas and her husband Kevin celebrated a baby shower thrown by Fit Pregnancy magazine. The couple were featured in the magazine’s latest issue. This was their second baby shower. Earlier last month, the stars of  Married to Jonas shared the bounty of presents they scored at an initial baby shower thrown by family and friends.
It is not uncommon for moms and dads-to-be to receive multiple baby showers. Often times, a family member or close friend will host one for close ties, the workplace will throw a work shower and if there is family in a remote location, there will be a shower thrown there so those back home can also celebrate and shower the new parents.
For celebrities, often times brands and media organizations will also host a shower as the case with the Jonases. Below are pics from other brand-hosted showers thrown for celebrity moms-to-be:

Burt’s Bees was among the sponsors of Kourtney Kardashian’s baby shower when she was pregnant with daughter Penelope.

Le Bebe CoCo  was among Kristin Cavallari‘s baby shower sponsors

And  also Holly Madison‘s who donated her gifts to the charity Baby2Baby.

Target hosted Beverley Mitchell’s baby shower.

The Sopranos Jamie Lyn-Sigler donated some of her baby shower finds to the Baby Buggy charity.

Several liquor companies provided the libations for cocktails served up at Love and Hip Hop’s  Yandy Smith‘s baby shower.

Jaime King enjoyed some fab brand goodies at her shower.
Ecoya‘s Sweet Pea & Jasmine home fragrance collection, a pink Quinny Buzz Special Edition stroller, a mamaRoo baby swing, a pink Hoppop Bath tub, a pink Little Giraffe Luxe Blanket, a Timi and Leslie diaper bag and a 5 ft. custom-made giraffe by Melissa and Doug all contributed to Victoria Beckham‘s baby shower.

Belly Bandit sponsored Jewel’s baby shower.

Celebrities and Pregorexia: All about super skinny pregnant celebrities

Celebrities like Selma Blair, Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie, Victoria Beckham, Miranda Kerr & Bethenny Frankel who managed to remain thin while pregnant may unwillingly contribute to rising cases of pregorexia among average women.
Sheknows.com spoke with a eating disorder therapist who broke down the rising problem of pregorexia, a condition where a mom-to-be refuses to eat enough for herself and developing baby over fears of weight gain. It even delves into the media and celebrities’ role in contributing to the increase in pregorexia cases nationwide.

In the piece, Sharon Zimbler, a marriage and family therapist posits about the woman who is suffering from this clinical disorder:
The woman may have had an eating disorder before she became pregnant that may or may not have been diagnosed. Oftentimes, women who have “disordered eating” or serious body-image issues may find themselves overwhelmed with the weight gain associated with pregnancy. These women may start developing an eating disorder during their pregnancies.
Media and societal influences affect our ideas of what pregnancy should look like. Unfortunately, we are inundated with images of very thin women barely gaining weight during pregnancy, only to find these same women losing their baby weight soon after the birth of their children. Many women find themselves worried about losing their baby weight before they even have their babies.
Women with established eating disorders suffer from cognitive distortions, which affect their ability to perceive themselves accurately. A woman may think she is eating a certain amount, but may actually be eating less than she realizes, or a woman may think she is not overexercising but actually is.
A woman with an eating disorder lacks perspective on her behaviors. Women with eating disorders have a strong need to control things in their lives. They do this by controlling what they eat or don’t eat. They also control whether they keep the food down. Women with pregorexia feel they have lost control over their bodies.

2014 Met Ball Red Carpet Trends as worn by celebrity moms

Among the A-List celebs strutting their looks on the red carpet to this year’s Met Ball were several of our Bellyitch alum moms last night, May 5.
There was a departure from the traditional avante garde fair this year given the theme “Charles James: Beyond Fashion”, named after the newest exhibit at the museum. It allowed the ladies to do old Hollywood glam, which is safer and more feminine for the annual gala put on by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and produced by Vogue editor-in-chief Ana Wintour.

The actual exhibit featured vintage old and recent Hollywood red carpet and other formal evening dresses worn by major US and international stars.
We saw some trends starting with the traditional trains, as spotted on Beyonce in a Givenchy dress and shoes adorned with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry; and on Charlize Theron in a black and white Dior dress worn with Fred Leighton jewels.

Actress Lake Bell held it down for the pregnant ladies in Tomy Hillfiger while Ivanka Trump did an earthy pattern in Oscar de la Renta.

Event co-chair Sarah Jessica Parker also wore Oscar de la Renta in a black and white ball gown while Victoria Beckham went as herself, in a sleek strapless Victoria Beckham evening dress.

Dark colors were seen on Marion Cotilliard in Christian Dior and Kim Kardashian in a sateen teal Lanvin evening dress with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Metallic and Silver were worn by singer Lily Allen in Chanel Couture, model Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors and Nicole Richie in Donna Karan Atalier

Going with bold color was Katie Holmes in a full sunny gown by  Marchesa and Reese Witherspoon looking polished and pretty in Stella McCartney.

Celebrity Mom Experts Backlash: Alicia Silverstone’s The Kind Mama v. Critics

From Kristin Cavallari and Jenny McCarthy‘s vaccine stances, to Snooki’s expert book on parenting published within the same year of delivering her first baby to Jessica Alba‘s Honest company  to the numerous celebs who’ve launched maternity (Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Victoria Beckham) and baby clothing lines beyond, there seems to be a refreshed backlash against celebrity mom parenting experts of late.
Recently,  Gwyneth Paltrow and her controversial statements comparing Hollywood and 9-5 moms, and her reportedly pretentious stance on parenting were the subject of quite a few news articles.
And now, the latest celebrity mother to face the ire and snark of critics is Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Alicia Silverstone.
The Clueless star’s latest book “Kind Mama: A Simple Guide to Supercharged Fertility, A Radiant Pregnancy, A Sweeter Birth and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning” triggered such a visceral response from Herald Sun  writer Wendy Tuohy that she lashed out  against it and other celeb experts  in a commentary on the site.
It starts:

IN BREAKING news from Hollywood, parents who don’t sleep with their baby are guilty of borderline neglect, nappies are bad for babies (they should do their business “in the grass”), post-natal depression is what you get for doing your diet wrong — oh, and tampons can give you infertility.

And it doesn’t get kinder from there! Oy! Read the entire piece HERE
No doubt, because of their high profile and huge following, celebrity parents are able to use their strong brand presence among general audiences to secure clothing lines, book deals and command a platform to espouse whatever they wish.
What are your thoughts generally? Understandable cashing in on their branding to make a living or exploiting their impressionable audiences for a quick buck?

Jennifer Hudson joins the Bellyitch Posh Mom Style Icon List

It has been over a year since we acknowledged a fashion-forward celebrity mom worthy to receive our elusive Posh Mom Style Icon designation. The last mominista recognized with the honor, which identifies the few who are effortlessly stylish with or without the help of a celebrity stylist, was pop songstress P!nk in 2012. Before her, First Lady Michelle Obama was dubbed an icon in 2011. Other designees include, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Ripa, Victoria BeckhamTichina Arnold and  Christina Milian.
Our newest inductee on the list is an alum finalist of the American Idol TV singing competition  and recently severed ties with Weight Watchers,  a company for which she served as a spokesperson over the course of her 80+ pound weight loss after giving birth to her son David Otunga, Jr. in August 2009. Since then, Hudson has become a fashion muse for many a designers and has been seen in couture and custom pieces by Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Balmain,  Michael KorsChristian Dior and others as well as some imprints and up and coming design houses.
The singer and Academy Award winner has one of the best stylist  team around because they do a wonderful job of outfitting Hudson in clothes to flatter her curvy shape and her relatively tall stature makes it so that she always has clean lines and looks very polished. She experiments with color often and also does patterns and geometric shapes along with various textures. She has a versatile style aesthetic and can wear almost anything.
The Think Like a Man singer has also become a regular fixture on magazine covers and has been one of the few to land a coveted Vogue cover.
Recently, the Dream Girls and Winnie biopic actress trimmed her locs and forewent wearing wigs and extensions and has been able to carry off the chic look well and show off her elongated neck line well. It was an A+ move. As we all know, not everyone can get away with short hair.
The multi-award nominated and winning artist balances a music and acting career, several charities, spokesperson duties and touring all while caring for her son and being a partner to long-time fiance David Otunga, and supporting her family still recuperating from a devastating loss of Hudson’s mom, nephew and brother a few years back.
The Spotlight  singer  is currently working on her third studio album “It’s Your World” to be released in the coming year.
But she handles it all with style and grace and for this reason, we have selected her to join our other elite and limited listing of celebrity posh mom style icons.
Congrats, Jennifer!
Jennifer takes fashion risks with geometric patterns and prints

Jennifer isn’t afraid of going bold with color.

But Jennifer  can rock exquisitely when she wants to as well.
Jennifer is Queen of the pencil skirt or dress which is one of the most flattering for her curvaceous yet still svelte figure.
Polka dots, plaid, leopard prints? Jennifer is fearless in donning it all and mixing it up with a splash of color or bangs.

Jennifer also looks elegant in floor-length and full ball gowns.

Not everyone will show off their legs, but Jennifer goes bold in a mini skirt or dress often.

And her performance gear is on point as well!

Werk, mama!

IMG_0677-0.jpg

1. Any mom would be happy to receive a Tiffany blue box, especially if in it there is a Tiffany & Co. Bezzet Yellow Diamond Ring in platinum with a yellow diamond in an 18k gold bezel setting. Cushioned in modified fancy intense yellow diamond, carat total weight 1.57 Get it at Tiffany’s for a mere $27,100.
2. If she is a bag freak and doesn’t already have one, you can get her the Hermes Matte Crocodile Birkin Bag which costs $120,000.  Named after after British singer/actress Jane Birkin. The clasp of this tote, which is actually made out of a crocodile, features 10 carats of white diamonds. Less expensive bags are available starting at $5,000. Good luck finding one. Last I heard, there is a wait list. But Jet Set Socialite site that had the list has since gone off line.

3. If  that affluent new mom in your life loves sweet spells, you can get her one of the world’s most expensive bottle of perfume, Clive Christian No. 1 which sells for $2,150 for 2 ounces. The perfume is an extravagant combination of Indian jasmine, mandarin and sandalwood. Its bottle is handmade from lead crystal, while the neck is 24-karat gold-plated sterling silver, set with a solitaire. Wow!
4. If that spoiled rich new mom has a sweet tooth, she may appreciate getting a dark chocolate truffle from Knipschildt for $250. It sells for $2600 a pound. With candy that rich, you have to cherish every calorie.

5. My favorite  gift is anything spa related. If your mom has time on her schedule, book her a spa trip to the Hotel Victor in South Beach (which was bought out by the Hyatt) It offers guests of its penthouse suite the opportunity to lounge in a tub filled with 1,000 liters of pure Evian water, fuchsia, and orange Gerber daisies. Serena Williams was the first to try out the $5,000 bath, which is given in a 350-gallon infinity tub. You can also snack on smoked salmon lollipops, foie gras and chocolate as you bathe.

6. A monogrammed robe. For the first weeks after the baby is born, a new mom will be restless, sleepless, and anxious trying to navigate her new role, nurse, recover and heal from the pains of labor and delivery and entertaining guests. It can be overwhelming. Nothing can make a new mom feel comfortable and comforted than being enveloped in a nice plush robe, especially during cold and crisp Fall or Winter nights. Having it monogrammed adds the nice extra special touch. For those in warmer climates, a pretty frilly robe in pastels, paisley or other feminine design can help a new mom feel sensual during a time when she may be dealing with bloating and other pregnancy side effects. Brookstone sells a nice one starting at  $59.95.

7. Plush Slippers Many new moms experience water retention in their feet and legs during and immediately after giving birth. C-Section moms have it even worse because surgery creates even more water build up. As such, many moms quickly become to realize that they may not be able to fit into their old shoes and won’t for a while. A great warm and comfy pair of slippers would be an ideal for any new mom, for lounging around the home or just for slipping into after a day out and about on feet that are still recovering from childbirth.  makes a comfy shearling slipper that retails for $75.

8. Anything from Tiffany’s – The sight of that little blue box can put a glimmer in any woman’s eye. For a new mom whose fingers may be swollen from retaining water, she may be upset and frustrated that she can no longer fit her wedding or engagement ring. Rather than put it away, wouldn’t it be a wonderful surprise to present her with a lovely chain to hang the rings on and wear around her neck so she can keep the symbol of your love and fidelity by her heart? Yes. Yes indeed. And as a self-proclaimed connoisseur of all things Tiffany’s related, believe me, that you are sure to find a necklace in a variety of budgets at Tiffany’s.

An Elsa Peretti Pendant Chain  sells for $185.00 and can fit a ring easily along with the alphabet pendant bearing either the mom’s or new baby’s initial.
