Remember that memorable moment (photo above) of US Olympic Team coach Bela Karolyi carrying Kerri Strug to receive her gold medal during the 1996 games? I do. It was amazing because despite suffering a sprained ankle with tendon damage, Shrug suffered through the pain and did a vault practically landing on one foot and winning a 9.712 score, just what the US needed to steal the lead and the gold medal!

Well that tiny phenom just had a baby this March 1. She welcomed a son, Tyler, who is the first child for Shrug and her attorney husband William Fischer whom she married in 2010.
Strug holds gymnastics clinics in DC, has been a spokesperson for the Children’s Miracle Network and the US Special Olympics and has been active in politics.
The author, is also a politically-acive Republican and once was a political appointee at the United States Department of Justice in the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention under President George W. Bush, SheKnows.com wrote in a 2010 article.
It also notes that Shrug holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sociology from Stanford and once taught 2nd grade after leaving college.
