Ayesha Curry Defends Why She Puts Her Marriage Ahead of The Kids {Video}

Ayesha Curry is catching a lot of flak these days for saying in a recent interview that she puts her marriage ahead of her children.

Curry told Hello Giggles:

“Because when you become a parent, you want to put your kids first, and we do, but we do it second to our relationship. Because ultimately, when our relationship is good, the kids are happy and they’re thriving and our family life is good. We have to put that into perspective and realize that it’s not us being selfish, it’s making sure we set a strong foundation.”

The comment caused a lot of stir and controversy among viewers and audiences, especially on social media.

Curry clarified her comments in a recent interview with E! News.

“I said in an interview that we put our marriage first and I think it’s caused a little bit of an uproar,” she told the entertainment channel. “But of course we take care of our children and we love our children and we nurture them.”

She added that her marriage needs to thrive so they can be there for their kids.

“Where is the epicenter of your home?” the Ayesha’s Home Cooking TV host adds. “Where is the hub and that starts with our marriage and relationship and I feel like when we make sure that is good first, we’ll make sure our kids are thriving and happy.”

The mom to 6-month old son Canon, and daughters, 3-year old Ryan and 6-year old Riley is not the only public figure to face major backlash for such a stance.

Back in 2005, author Ayelet Waldman was looked at critically also when she penned a piece in the New York Times explaining how she loved her husband —  author Michael Chabon — more than their children.

Despite the criticism, however, the practice of focusing on your marriage first is something many psychologists and marriage therapists approve of, as a healthy relationship sets a good example for kids.
