Oscars 2015: We want to know what Reese Witherspoon will wear but she wants you to #AskHerMore

All eyes are on 2015 Best Actress in a Leading Role Oscar nominated actress Reese Witherspoon. Many will be wondering who she will be wearing. However, in a recent Instagram post, Witherspoon spoke about the hashtag #AskHerMore to encourage red carpet reporters to query some of the 44 women nominated in this year’s Academy Awards on more than their style and clothing.

In actuality, we also understand the purpose is to highlight and spotlight the various designers and men are also asked who designed the tuxes or outfits they are styled in as well. A solution perhaps will be to release all the labels and designs to the red carpet producers before coming to walk that way all the reporters know in advance and can ask more substantive questions.

Well we are curious still to see what and who she will be wearing. The previous Best Actress Oscar winner (Walk the Line) is nominated for her performance in Wild.

During the award season she wore Chanel to the EE British Academy Awards nominees party at Kensington Palace on February 7 in London, England.

She sported Stella McCartney at the actual awards at The Royal Opera House the next day.

Before heading across the pond, she was spotted at the 87th Annual Academy Awards Nominee luncheon at The Beverly Hilton on Febuary 2 in Giambattista Valli.

She hit the other awards in style too. She wore Giorgio Armani to the 21st Annual Screen Actors’ Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium on January 25 in LA.

And went with a Mario BH cropped pants paired with a Giambattista Valli shirt at the 26th Annual Producers Guild of America Awards at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza hotel on January 24.

I adored her gorgeous silver strapless Calvin Klein dress she wore to the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 11 in Beverly Hills.

My least fave was the two tone Lanvin dress she wore at the Critics Choice Awards.

VIRAL VIDEO:Classical remake with lyrics every parent knows well

Spotted this very relatable viral video on a friend’s Facebook feed. It is a few years old, but is touted as an “ode to sleep-deprived parents.”

Actually, it is a hilarious take on composer Carl Orff‘s “O Fortuna- Carmina Burana” with remixed lyrics written by Matthew Hodge and performed by Australia’s  Sydney Symphony and Philharmonic Choirs.

So funny, So true:

Hilaria Baldwin shares Pre-Natal Yoga tips on TODAY

If you didn’t know, YOGA and PILATES have a beef going on. Yup, you’re either a Yoga person or a Pilates person and if you’re in a class with a distinguishing instructor, you may hear a slam against yoga in a pilates class, and vice versa.
I’m a Pilates person, but I was delighted to see second time mom-to-be and past Bellyitch interview subject Hilaria Baldwin drop in to chat with TODAY‘s Hoda and Kathie Lee recently. The celebrity yoga instructor and personal trainer talked a bit about her family, hubby Alec Baldwin and pregnancy. She also shared some boss yoga tips for moms-to-be who want to stay fit but maybe cannot get to a gym.

10 Reasons Moms Can’t Get Alone Time

You wouldn’t expect to work constantly and not get any vacation time or time off and yet motherhood can seem just that way on a daily basis. There are many reasons mothers don’t get much needed alone time. Sometimes it’s the circumstances and sometimes we get in our own way. Here are ten reasons why personal time escapes many mothers.

  1. Mothers have to do everything – Some moms believe that nothing, absolutely nothing, will get done without them. They need to oversee every detail of family life and make sure things are running smoothly. As long as they have that outlook and it works for everyone concerned, chances are nothing is going to change.
  2. Perfectionism – The perfect mother doesn’t need alone time, or so she thinks. Trying to live up to the unattainable image of the supermom is a sure way to crash and burn.
  3. Demanding kids – Sometimes little ones can be extremely demanding; Mom cannot even go to the bathroom alone. Children like this want to know where Mommy is every minute and she’d better not get out of their eyesight. The idea of alone time for such a mom is just a pipe dream.
  4. Fathers that don’t support alone time – If you have a husband that doesn’t support your alone time, it might be much harder to get. Some fathers are kind enough to take the kids while Mom goes off and does something she wants to do or maybe even stays home and takes a bubble bath. But for the mother who doesn’t have that kind of support at home, finding the time to be by herself can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
  5. Too busy – Some mothers are workaholics and doing too much all the time to take a break. Every minute is planned and used to the max. This mom gets tons of things accomplished, except perhaps some much needed self care.
  6. Over scheduled – Similar to the busy mom this mom is always on the go, but she has some down time. The only problem is that her down time is spent with other people. She’s waiting for the kids to do this or that, she’s at dance rehearsals or foot ball practice. With a little help she could actually manage to get some alone time in there somewhere.
  7. Guilt feelings – There are mothers who just feel so guilt ridden about taking private time for themselves, they can’t bring themselves to do it. It feels as if they are stealing time away from the family.
  8. Worried about the kids – These moms are worried that something terrible will happen to the kids if they are away, even for a little while. Over protective mothers have a need to hover over their children constantly and really can’t function without them. Chances are many of the hovering moms, in reality, don’t even want time to themselves.
  9. Not thinking creatively – All it takes at times is a bit of creative thinking to get a piece of alone time. Most moms could probably figure out how to make it happen if they would take the time to get resourceful with their thinking. You’d be surprised what a little imagination can dream up!
  10. Single parents – Mothers who don’t have a backup parent or other family support around them can find it especially difficult to find time for themselves. Trading babysitting favors with other single moms and making time in the early morning or late evenings when the kids are in bed may be options for these moms. Again, creativity is the key.

Will ‘The American Sniper’s fake baby cost it the Oscar?

Ok I find it hilarious that some are saying the Twitter uproar over The American Sniper ‘s use of a fake baby in an intense scene in the movie will make it lose the biggest award at the Academy Awards tomorrow night. I just spotted entertainment reporter Lisa Respers France‘s article in CNN on that theory.
In the film which portrays the life of the most deadly sniper in American history, Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) and his wife (Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Sienna Miller) are having a convo in the baby nursery after Kyle returns home from the war. Kyle picks up and rocks back to sleep a very obviously plastic baby doll dressed in pink.
Twitter had a field day when the movie first opened and now there are several reports of conspiracy theorists hypothesis that this solitary reason will be why the film maybe won’t win in the Best Picture category tomorrow. The baby has its own Twitter account and there have been several spoofs since then.
“That’s why, a lot of times, producers hire multiple babies —  you can’t always guarantee a happy baby ready for filming,” Toni Casala, founder of LosAngeles-based Children in Film told the  Washington Post. “And if one doesn’t show up, you’re definitely in trouble.”
American Sniper screenwriter Jason Hall explained just that on Twitter: “Real baby #1 showed up with a fever. Real baby #2 was a no-show.”
Check out the clip of the embarrassing use of a plastic baby in a $60M big budget movie:

Review: The ‘Kid Lid’ protects your laptop from baby and toddler users

In this digital era we live in, chances are most babies will find themselves in front of a laptop viewing an educational  DVD or cartoon while resting on her tummy on a play mat before the age of one. By the time an infant gets to toddlerhood, he would have become a pro at online games. It’s just the world we are living in now.

But babies and kids’ love for laptop videos can be costly if they bang on the keys or spill food or drink inside of it.

Enter the Kid Lid. This innovative product, which retails for $29.99, is essentially a cover for the keyboard portion of the laptop.

The latest iteration of the invention which launched and got funded on Kickstarter last year folds up easily for storage and portable carriage. It also comes in Black. That was the color of our complimentary review copy ($39.99).

Created by a company called Mogolo, The KidLid can be wiped cleaned or placed in the dishwasher even, and is made up of BPA-Free Poly Carbonate plastic. It covers laptops that are 13 or 15 inches in sizes and comes in white, but the black and watermelon colors are also available in the fold up variety. An elastic velcro strap helps keep the lid in place.

I love it and found it to be perfect and functional! Check out a video on the product:

‘Love and Hip Hop’s Emily B’s sporty-vixen-edgy maternity style

I love Rapper Fabolous! And now he and his long-time girlfriend, stylist and shoe designer, Emily Bustamante are expecting again.

This mom to 16-year old Taina Bustamante is a sweetheart and I found her quite  endearing on the few episodes of Love and Hip Hop I’ve seen. She is a cast member and star of that VH1 docu -series and also has a 6-year old son named Johan with Fab.

And peeping her Instagram, I am also loving her sporty-vixen-edgy maternity style.

I may need to follow this season of the popular season so I can peep how she mixes and matches her different looks.

Why you should prep your children to become rich

In covering politics in my other life as a poli-tech blogger where I’ve written about political campaigns, candidates and actively serving politicians, I’ve noticed that there is extreme objection in some factions to the rich and wealthy.
Much of the talking points and mantras of certain political groups that claim to represent the interest of the working class seem to be against the wealthy and paint them as evil, greedy and something to despise.
It’s dis concerning to me because I have always been of the position that we parents should be teaching our children to work hard enough so they can become independently wealthy so they can do what they want in life and can give back freely.
To me, casting aspersions on the wealthy is akin to teaching yourself and your offsprings that they will never ever make enough money to be independent and free and will never be in that economic strata. How is that a good thing?

I wrote about this topic in the past and recently, I saw self-made millionaire Lawrence Tam‘s answer on Quroa to a question “What are good ways to prepare my children to become billionaires.” The post made me smile because his answer spoke to a lot of my feelings on this issue, specifically the part on why it’s a good thing to teach your children to want to become rich.

He wrote, in part,

Many people assume that “all the rich care about” is running around in yachts and exploiting the poor. That’s what we see on TV. But I think we are all smart enough to understand that what we see on TV and what is reality isn’t exactly the same thing. Most of the time, it’s not even close.

So on point. He goes on:

When you have money, you have a power that is arguably one of the most powerful in human history, at least on a secular level. The money is NOT the goal, the STUFF that money gets you, is the goal. (and it’s not all about you too… think influence in charity work and community impact)

Do you want better healthcare? Buy it.

Need better education for your kids? Buy your way into a better school district, or pay for it. (there is a reason for schools accepting LARGE donations)

Want a better way to spend 8-12 hours a day working for someone who could care less about you? Find a way to pay your bills and then some.

Money also saves you money and time.

Buying nicer clothes and better cars last longer, need less maintenance and have a better resale value.

Taking care of yourself with exercise and organic food is cheaper than spending countless hours in the hospital chronically ill or hurt.

I can never shout out these loud enough! Amen, brother. Finally, he offered examples that parents can set (granted these examples may apply more to parents who are already well off):

Set this example: Being rich means being generous, tough, but always true to yourself and your values.

Set this example: Being rich means being unpopular. A lot. Before you are rich, people will call you stupid and unrealistic. While you are climbing, people will say you won’t make it. Even after you are rich, people will still hate you because you are rich. Show them it rolls right off your back.

Set this example: You don’t have to be a psychopath to be successful in business. Part of being rich means growing assets, investing properly and learning how money works. Like a boss.

Set this example: Educate the heck out of yourself. Broaden the definition of education to include 5% classroom and 95% real life – case studies, mentors and just plain getting your hands dirty.

Set this example: If you are working HARD, and I mean you are giving it everything you’ve got, they will see that. They will miss you, but they will understand that it takes sacrifice and hard work to reach goals. Even though people think the rich don’t have it rough, they had it the hardest in the beginning. That is why it is “easier” for them later on. Though most people know that real leaders never, ever have it easier. Ever.

Even if in the pursuit to becoming rich, a child falls short, he or she still may have developed the work ethic, tenacity, drive and determination on the journey. Those are all good character traits to have no matter where you fall on the socieoeconomic ladder.
