Thanksgiving: 5 Healthy Snacks to make with the kids

Thanksgiving is synonymous with family, friends and an overload of food. So, when it comes to dessert this holiday, skip the pie and substitute with these 5 healthier alternatives. Jenna Fernandes, CEO of CareBooker.com, the only FREE “Open Table” of family and pet care services, offers lighter desserts that are sure to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth without any guilt this Thanksgiving.
From holiday staples to fall favorites with creative twists, here are five great recipes to try with your family:
1.       The Caramel Apple Bar: This is an activity the whole family can participate in making. Start an assembly line by cutting apples into slices and inserting a candy stick for easier decorating. Once the prep is complete, dip the apples in chocolate or caramel and arrange the family’s favorite toppings such as sprinkles, coconut or crushed candy pieces to top this sweet treat.
2.       Turkey Muffin: Another great dessert to get kids creative with this fun treat for Thanksgiving. First, bake your favorite pumpkin muffin recipe and prep the decorating ingredients. Create the turkey feathers with sliced red and green apples, cut a small beak from a thin slice of carrot and finish off with squeezable icing for eyes. This simple recipe will turn this dessert into an art project.
3.       Yogurt-dipped strawberries: Yogurt-dipped strawberries are a favorite, guilt free dessert that includes healthy Greek yogurt and strawberries. Greek yogurt is high in protein and offers a thicker consistency perfect for dipping. Dip the strawberries in Greek yogurt, set on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and allow them to set in the freezer for one hour before enjoying with friends and family.
4.       Baked Apples: Apples are always a fall favorite and this baked apple recipe will become an instant hit on any family dinner table or dessert party tray this season. After preheating the oven to 350 degrees, slice apples and place in a baking dish. Finish off with a dusting of brown sugar and cinnamon for added fall flavor and bake for 15 minutes.
5.       “Cocoa-Nut” Bananas: This healthy treat is a perfect alternative to the traditional fall flavors. Start with slicing bananas down the middle. Roll each slice in cocoa powder and shake off the excess. Finish these healthy treats by rolling the slices in unsweetened coconut flakes and arrange on a fun tray.

STYLE: How to wear your hair to complement your body type

Whether you’re preggers or not, it’s always important to consider your body type when you get a new hairstyle. As a person who changes her hair often, I am always mindful to make sure a style works with my face too.
Over at “A Mom in Red Heels,”  style blogger Tammy Gibson‘s personal stylist Angela Bethanie offered some great advice for what type of hair works best depending on  your body type.
I have an hour glass and the advice Betanie dispenses about hair best for my body type is accurate and makes sense:

Hourglass Body Type: facial shape is usually rounded- either oval, long oval or round 

Long hair: Deep side parting with longer fringe. Layers and texture are your best friend! If tucking hair behind the ear leave a little hair in front for a more tousled look. 

Short hair– always make sure to leave a fringe (think lots of texture). Product you must have: Spray wax works best, hour glass body shapes need balance from top to bottom and a spray wax can give you instant texture whenever and wherever needed!

I thought Thanksgiving was about being thankful for family, health, safety, security, overcoming odds, beating challenges, friends and all positive things in our lives that we may take for granted. 
So to see VH1’s Gossip Table’s post ask people what celebrity moments are us regular folks most thankful for, I literally dropped my mouth. 
Have we all turned into such a celebrity worship society and culture that we now count events in the lives of celebrities among OUR blessings?
Please say this isn’t so! Am I overreacting or is this a shallow superficial Thanksgiving post fail?

Actor Lance Gross is wickedly awesome maternity portrait photographer

 Actor Lance Gross  says he thinks pregnancy is beautiful and the House of Payne star certainly has an eye for capturing it.

The budding photographer took some stunning images of his girlfriend since 2011 Rebecca Jefferson recently. 
Gross, who starred in a TV remake of Steel Magnolias, announced in July that they were expecting their first child this fall.
In addition to his radiant partner, Gross has also captured the beauty of friend Kelly Rowland, TV personality Zena Foster‘s recent pregnancies.

Holidays: Top 10 hostess gifts

With the holidays upon us, party season is in full swing, and you likely have found yourself scrounging around before a get together for an appropriate gift to give the hostess. While buying a gift for a good friend who is hosting a party is easy enough, things get a little trickier if you’re just a casual friend or acquaintance of the hostess and don’t know her individual tastes well.  If you’re debating over what to bring a hostess, consider one of these top 10 hostess gifts to take to your next party:
  1. Wine – Bring a bottle or two, depending on the occasion and the size of the event.  If you are joining another couple for dinner, then one bottle should be enough.  Try to find a wine the compliments the meal if you know what you’ll be eating ahead of time.  If you are going to a big party, it might be better to bring two different bottles, one red and one white.
  2. A jar of gourmet pumpkin butter – Gourmet, seasonal foods, like pumpkin butter, can be a great and unique gift to give to someone hosting a party. Specialty food items create a talking point if nothing else, and you may introduce your hostess to her new favorite seasonal find!
  3. Set of four glasses – There are always new styles of glassware coming out, and people don’t often buy new glasses if they already have some at home.  Buying the hostess a set of four stemless martini glasses is a fun gift that she could use right away.  Even if she doesn’t like martinis she can use them for serving desserts or as decorations.
  4. Wine charms – You can typically find wine charms in a wide range of prices, so you can determine how much you want to spend on the hostess and buy accordingly.  Wine charms are quaint, and often can serve as fun conversation starters.  If you are crafty you could make your own wine charms and place them in a gift box or jewel case for gift giving.
  5. Ceramic coasters – Coasters are useful, especially for parties, and it seems like you can never have too many.  Finding some that reflect the hostess’ taste is somewhat important, so consider the types of things she likes.  Does she love light houses?  Do they drink wine?  Buy good quality stone or ceramic coasters for the hostess.
  6. Selections of gourmet salts – Flavored sea salts are an ideal gift for the foodie hostess.  These salts are interesting and would be fun for the hostess to play around with while she’s cooking.
  7. Nice hand lotion – Good quality hand lotion is something that most people would enjoy, and if you know a particular fragrance that she likes then a nice lotion can be the ideal gift.  Otherwise, try to stay with a scent that is fruity or very mild so as not to adversely affect the hostess.
  8. Tin of organic tea leaves – Tea is another gift that tends to range in price as well, and tins of loose leaf tea are generally more expensive than a box of tea bags.  Give a flavor of tea that you like and explain that you’d like to share your love of this tea with her.
  9. Flavored olive oil – Extra Virgin olive oil can get very expensive, so you will have to base your choice on your budget.  People who enjoy making their own salad dressings or dipping bread in oil will enjoy a high quality flavored olive oil.  Giving a loaf of French bread with it will allow the hostess to try it sooner rather than later.
  10. Guest soaps – Many handmade guest soaps are available in pretty packaging and would be suitable as a hostess gift.  Giving a gift like this would be a nice gesture if you were spending the night with the hostess, but would also work for a dinner party.

Solange Knowles, a cape, a fierce jumpsuit..oh and a wedding…winter White never looked so good

Leave it to Solange Knowles who looked radiant in her Humberto Leon for Kenzo floor-length off-white specially-designed cape wedding dress to remind us of how passionately majestic and out-of-this-wordly she is.  The singer-songwriter-DJ-actress-producer married her longtime beau of 5 years ,video director Alan Ferguson, in a quite unique ceremony in New Orleans this weekend.
The wedding took place at Holy Trinity Church in the Baywater area with a reception after at the Marigny Opera House before about 200 guests.  The Friday before, the couple treated about 50 guests to a screening at Indywood Cinema of the 1970s movie Mahogany which starred Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams, special to the couple because their romance sparked after viewing that very film back in 2008 together.
The couple rode around New Orleans and to the ceremony on matching white antique bicycles ornate with flowers and organza which Solange dazzled in wearing a Stéphane Rolland jumpsuit. 
The visually stunning photos from the event, released by Vogue.com, practically bent the internet a bit  on its own yesterday as they streamed down many people’s various social media feeds all day. 
The second look reminded us of how glorious one could look if they had the eclectic and crazy sexy cool personality of Solange to pull it off.
Congrats! This is the second marriage for Solange who was married to Daniel Smith, with whom she bore a son Julez, now 10-years old,  from 2004 to 2007.

Mom died for 45 minutes after c-section, recalls after-life experience

A Florida woman died for 45 minutes following complications during her C-section delivery, but miraculously and suddenly revived to the shock of medical professionals.
Ruby Graupera-Cassimiro‘s heart stopped this past September after suffering an amniotic fluid embolism that surrounded her baby’s clogged heart. 
For close to an hour of the 3 hours doctors tried to revive her, she had no pulse.  And just as they were ready to call in her family to say their final goodbye’s,  Graupera-Cassimiro reached out for a nurse’s hand, the nurse Julie Ewing told WFLX TV. 
“Everyone was in disbelief,” Dr. Jordan Knurr told the station. “This doesn’t happen.” 
What Graupera-Cassimiro told nurse Ewing strengthened Ewing’s belief in God, recounting the experience of floating down a dark tunnel before being told by a spiritual being that it was not her time.
“That day, God was real — more real than I ever dreamed of,” Ewing said.
Ewing says Ruby told nurses what she remembers during the time her pulse stopped. “She said she went down a tunnel. She didn’t walk. She said it was more like she was floating… that she saw a spiritual being that told her it wasn’t her time,” Ewing said.
Graupera-Cassimiro is now home with her baby.

‘The Leftovers’ Liv Tyler radiates in Paul Wetherall photo

 Liv Tyler of HBO‘s The Leftovers serial drama based on the famous Stephen King book looked absolutely gorgeous in a recent pregnancy maternity portrait she shared with her fans in social media.
“Photo for my honey David by #PaulWetherall thank you Town and Country Mag!! !!!!!!!,” she captioned the understated classic sepia filtered photo by the famed fashion photographer. She looked super gorg in that dark off the shoulder dress looking down at and cradling her bump, her hair swept to one side old Hollywood-style. 
The David she references is her partner sports and entertainment manager and British football agent David Gardner. This will be the first child for the couple. She announced the pregnancy this past September. 
Tyler has a 9-year old son Milo with ex-husband British musician Royston Langdon of the band Spacehog.


The former child model is also the daughter to rocker Stephen Tyler of the group Aerosmith.
We probably can expect to see this photo in an upcoming issue of Town and Country magazine.
