Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums and their spouses who were Sex Addicts

The American Association for Family and Marriage estimate that between 12 and 14 million Americans have a sex addiction.
Some of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch and adoptive moms have been on the other end of the addiction, married to men who claimed an insatiable appetite or obsession with sex ruined their relationships.
Most recently, Tori Spelling’s dilemma with her sex addicted husband Dean McDermott has been playing itself out on a Lifetime television reality series. Others like Tea Leoni who was married to addict David Duchovny; Katherine Zeta Jones, married to former sex-addict Michael Douglass and Angelina Jolie, whose ex Billy Bob Thornton, admitted to be an addict, have kept it out of the limelight.
Some, like Sandra Bullock, couldn’t help it but the media made her hubby Jessie James’ sex-addicted cheating ways very public and tabloid fodder. Halle Berry‘s ex husband Eric Benet was widely reported to be an addict too. Benet later retracted the claim. Similarly, Tiger Woods also claimed an addiction for the reason he cheated on his wife and even went to rehab for it.
Charlie Sheen is infamously linked to admittedly cheating on his exes including Denise Richards, partially because of a sex addiction.
Kanye West has admitted to being a sex addict and says it is was fuels his success. Wonder how Kim Kardashian, the mom of his daughter Nori, is coping.
While the condition is a legitimate ailment, it is often questioned and presumed to be an excuse for a guy who cannot or will not stay faithful.

10 celebrities who enjoyed sponsored baby showers

Danielle Jonas and her husband Kevin celebrated a baby shower thrown by Fit Pregnancy magazine. The couple were featured in the magazine’s latest issue. This was their second baby shower. Earlier last month, the stars of  Married to Jonas shared the bounty of presents they scored at an initial baby shower thrown by family and friends.
It is not uncommon for moms and dads-to-be to receive multiple baby showers. Often times, a family member or close friend will host one for close ties, the workplace will throw a work shower and if there is family in a remote location, there will be a shower thrown there so those back home can also celebrate and shower the new parents.
For celebrities, often times brands and media organizations will also host a shower as the case with the Jonases. Below are pics from other brand-hosted showers thrown for celebrity moms-to-be:

Burt’s Bees was among the sponsors of Kourtney Kardashian’s baby shower when she was pregnant with daughter Penelope.

Le Bebe CoCo  was among Kristin Cavallari‘s baby shower sponsors

And  also Holly Madison‘s who donated her gifts to the charity Baby2Baby.

Target hosted Beverley Mitchell’s baby shower.

The Sopranos Jamie Lyn-Sigler donated some of her baby shower finds to the Baby Buggy charity.

Several liquor companies provided the libations for cocktails served up at Love and Hip Hop’s  Yandy Smith‘s baby shower.

Jaime King enjoyed some fab brand goodies at her shower.
Ecoya‘s Sweet Pea & Jasmine home fragrance collection, a pink Quinny Buzz Special Edition stroller, a mamaRoo baby swing, a pink Hoppop Bath tub, a pink Little Giraffe Luxe Blanket, a Timi and Leslie diaper bag and a 5 ft. custom-made giraffe by Melissa and Doug all contributed to Victoria Beckham‘s baby shower.

Belly Bandit sponsored Jewel’s baby shower.

Study: Playing Video Games is good for kids, but not too much

Children who play video games for up to an hour a day are less hyperactive, more social and happier than those who don’t play at all, according to an Oxford University study.

The results contradict widespread concerns that video game use by kids is harmful.

The study, appearing in the journal Pediatrics, looked at boys and girls between 10 and 15 years old and found that playing for as much as an hour a day could actually be beneficial.

The study focused on almost 5,000 kids and compared those who didn’t play at all with those who indulged in console games such as Nintendo Wii and Sony Play Stations, or computer-based games.

“Young people who indulged in a little video game-playing were associated with being better adjusted than those who had never played or those who were on video games for three hours or more,” the study concluded.

“Those who played video games for less than an hour … were associated with the highest levels of sociability and were most likely to say they were satisfied with their lives. They also appeared to have fewer friendship and emotional problems, and reported less hyperactivity than the other groups.”

Those who played such games for up to three hours a day seemed to show no effects, positive or negative.

But those who played for more than three hours a day did see some harmful effects.

“Games provide a wide range of novel cognitive challenges, opportunities for exploration, relaxation and socialization with peers,” the researchers observed. “Like non-digitally mediated forms of child play, games may encourage child well-being and healthy social adjustment.”

10 Jennie Mai Summer Trends Styling Tips for busy moms

If you could have a style concierge or stylist, you’d effortlessly fab all the time just like celebrities. One lucky winner in a contest hosted by Colgate Optic White won a styling session with celebrity stylist Jeannie Mai last Friday, July25th.  Mai, who will co-host The Real with Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums Tamara Mowry-Housley  and Tamar Braxton- Herbert this fall, dressed the winner (above) in Walmart apparel, accessories and shoes in addition to sharing tips and tricks on how to rock the latest and greatest summer fashion trends without breaking the bank.
We’re in luck because Mai offers the following additional 10 styling tips to Bellyitch readers who also may want to make a statement without spending too much:
1. One of the most stylish and sensible ways you can partake in summer trends without jumping into temporary trends is to shop vintage. Today trends are taking strong struts from the past, and celebrities like Beyonce and Carrie Underwood are jumping right in. A good tip to help you  shop vintage and stand out is to aim for statement accessories that add the throwback to your modern wear. Tortoise shell sunnies, natural fiber woven clutches and bags, or low block heel footwear are essentials. One of my ultimate fave places around the world to shop at is in my very own home of Los Angeles. Decades on Melrose is a legendary must to all the fashion mavens everywhere. It’s worth the trip back in timeless style.

2. As a fashionista, it’s important to stay on top of the latest trends. This year’s Pantone color of the year is Radiant Orchid – so swipe some lavender polish onto your lovely nail beds the next time you go to the salon. Manis and pedis are fun and easy ways to add pops of color to your look.
3. I am a fan of a bright, bold lip. But if you are drawing attention to your lips you need to make sure your pearly whites are sparkling white. I recommend stashing lip colors with blue undertones and the new Colgate Optic White Toothbrush + Whitening Pen in your purse for an on-the-go beauty update.
4. Neon orange lips are officially in. The bright orange shade provides the necessary pop to your lips and looks great on multiple skin tones.
5. While we all love to rock bright and bold colors, remember that black is and always will be classic. Make sure to keep a little black dress stashed in your closet to rock at the next event you attend or night out on the town.
6. Tie your look together with some great accessories. Adding a statement necklace can really set the tone for the rest of your outfit. You can really transition an outfit from day to night with the help of a stylish accessory.

7. Ladies, it’s all about the blue eye makeup these days! Apply shades of teal and seafoam to your eyelid or as a liner to make those gorgeous eyes of yours sparkle and shine.
8. Looking to jump on a fashion trend from the 90’s? Well ladies, you are in luck – overalls are back in full force! This laid back outfit looks comes as a romper or in the traditional full length get up
– so why not have a blast from the past and rock the overall!

9.  Accessories are a girl’s best friend, am I right? We all love to dress up our look with bangles, earrings and the hottest new handbag. But ladies, don’t forget your best accessory is and always will be your smile! Make your smile pop by using the full Optic White line of products – brush, rinse, whiten and go for whiter teeth in just one day!
10. No one wants to feel weighed down, especially when it comes to their makeup. Instead of wearing a heavy foundation, try a tinted moisturizer – it provides the coverage you want/need in a light weight formula.
Excellent tips! Happy Summer Styling, ladies!

10 tips to make a road trip with the Kids smoother

Summer is a time that families pack the kids in the car and head out for a road trip to visit family away. If the trip takes longer than an hour or two to get to the final destination, many parents know it could be a challenge to keep the kids busy. “Are we there yet?” is a common question parents can expect to hear at least once during the trip.
To ease the anxiousness and impatience from our kids, my husband I usually aim to leave at night when they are ready to go to bed. That way they sleep for most of the trip because it is during their normal sleep hours anyway. If the trip takes more than a few hours, when they wake, we make at least one pit stop so they can stretch their legs and get some fresh air and then pepper the remaining hours with car games. Here are 9 other ways we pass time while on a road trip from a past post:

  1. License Plates – A time-honored road trip classic, kids can compete to see who can spot license plates from the most different states. An alternative version involves scouting for unusual numbers or for a particular letter. This game has been known to last through several states’ worth of driving.
  2.     Road Trip Bingo – You can find cards for this game online with symbols of objects, vehicles, and road signs printed on them for the kids to scout out during family road trips. Play it just like traditional Bingo, marking off each item that’s spotted on the journey, until someone fills a line or the whole card.
  3.     I Spy – A more traditional, low-tech version of Road Trip Bingo, this one requires nothing more than sharp eyes. Kids can call out, “I spy a …” and others compete to identify the “target” first. It’s also a good way for the kids to appreciate the scenery as it goes by their windows.
  4.     iPod – Of course a good supply of personal tunes can go a long way in keeping the older kids pre-occupied. An mp3 player or cell phone can be just the ticket to make the long stretches on the road go by more quickly.
  5.     Unusual Attractions – Whenever and wherever possible, it helps to incorporate some interesting tourist attractions as part of your scheduled route, which will help break up the drive a bit. When planning your trip, check for any roadside oddities along the way that make for fun photo ops, like giant cow sculptures or donut-shaped donut shops.
  6.     Video Games – Parents know all too well how much time a kid can kill on those game consoles. Bring along a hand-held device or two to keep them busy. There’s an excellent chance that you won’t hear a peep out of them while driving clear across the country.
  7.     DVDs – If the family vehicle is equipped with a DVD player, you’re way ahead in the battle against boredom. Stock up with a selection of family favorites for viewing on the road and you can kill hours at a time.
  8.     Keep a Travel Journal – Encourage the kids to bring along a journal and document their adventures while on vacation. It will do much more than keep them busy, it will preserve some valuable memories for posterity too.
  9.     Read – Bring a good book assortment – either the paper or e-book variety – and let your kids get lost in some good literature. Suggest that everyone unplug for a stretch of your trip and just read quietly. Who knows, it could become a habit that extends into everyday life.

What else? Do you have any road trip advice to share?

6 Educational animated classics on Netflix for Rainy Days

Netflix isn’t just about prison dramas. The on-demand, streaming and video delivery network also has loads of titles that are friendly to children and offer educational options for parents.
They can be PERFECT for rainy days viewing in the summer and on weekends when going outdoors is not an option and you want to drag the kids off of their tablets, game counsels and mindless TV.
Noodle  a company that provides advice on education decisions, rounded up six great educational and kid-appropriate TV shows and movies currently available to stream on Netflix that are quick fixes to any rainy day home with the kiddos.

Check them out:

1. The Blue Planet (2001)
A huge, high-quality undertaking from the folks at BBC, the eight-episode series The Blue Planet is one of those documentaries worth buying an HDMI cable and hooking a computer up the big screen for.
This exploration of planet earth’s vast seas is plenty educational, tracking the amazing life of everything from coral reefs to frozen Antarctic life, with an emphasis on the interconnectedness of everything. The series was notably a precursor to the crazy popular, Oprah-approved Planet Earth series, making it a great watch for curious, science-minded kids.

2. Chops (2007)

Chops is a great watch for kids who love music, and in particular, kids who are already passionate about an instrument.
The inspiring 2007 documentary stresses the payoff of working towards perfection as it follows a Jacksonville, Florida jazz band attempting to win top honors at the world class Essentially Ellington Festival at Lincoln Center. Jazz legend Wynton Marsalis, the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, also makes an appearance.

3. The Magic School Bus (1994-1997)

The original animated Magic School Bus series is an easy sell to kids based on premise alone: What if, instead of repeated field trips to your mediocre local museum and awkward old-timey reenactment villages, you could go to space, hang out with dinosaurs, and shrink down to the point where ants were terrifyingly human-sized?
Therein lies the appeal of Magic School Bus, which currently has all four of its educational, space and time traversing original seasons available on Netflix.

4. Sesame Street (2006-2011)

The indisputable king of family-friendly educational entertainment currently has episodes between 2006-2011 available to stream on Netflix.

Your kids can expect songs on the joy of cookies, culture references way out of their reach; celebrities like Neil Patrick Harris showing up as someone named the “Shoe Fairy,” and a lot more. I mean, I don’t really need to sell the joys of Sesame Street to you, do I?

5. Turtle: The Incredible Journey (2011)

Like March of the Penguins, Turtle: The Incredible Journey is one of those film reminders of how incredible animals are, how tough they have it, and how us human folk tend to make things even tougher.
This warm water tale chronicles the journey of a female loggerhead as she battles the odds to survive a trying 25-year trek from a Florida beach to Africa and back to lay her eggs that only one in ten thousand turtles survives. It’s also available on Hulu.
6. Walking with Dinosaurs
This six-part BBC-produced award-winning documentary is a perfect, kid-friendly and educational way to quench your kid’s insatiable love of all things big, loud, and vaguely reptilian.
While the CGI — top notch when the series was released in 1999 — might look a little dated now, the series still gets high marks for its quality and narrative style, which brings the action to life by following the stories of individual dinosaurs and dinosaur families, and not treating them as ancient history.
