Let your Father’s Day gift also work to bring a healthy baby into the world with March of Dimes’ ‘imbornto’ initiative

As you start planning for Father’s Day this year, consider also doing something to support strong and healthy babies from the start and the March of Dimes imbornto national marketing initiative. The campaign celebrates the fantastic things babies were born to do and thanks the mothers and fathers who brought them into the world.
While out and about shopping, thru Father’s Day, consider purchasing a gift with the imbornto logo on partner products including, those from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc., The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc., Mud Pie, Scentsy, e.p.t. TM Family Planning Solutions, Oral-B®, Kmart and eBay.

Proceeds from the sale or a direct donation at a site where the imbornto logo is visible will help the mission of the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health
“Together, with our partners, March of Dimes continues to help moms have full-term  pregnancies and ensure the birth of healthy, strong babies,” says Dr. Jennifer L. Howse,  president of March of Dimes. “This annual imbornto campaign honors the people ultimately responsible for the opportunities each and every baby has. Please join every baby in thanking  moms and dads for everything they do.”

Would you use any of these words to describe your body after having a baby?

Australia photographer Taryn Brumfitt asked 100 women on the street to give her one word to describe their bodies, these were some of the answers they gave her:

Wobbly

Imperfect

Stumpy

Very average

Short

Fat

Frumpy

Gross

Disgusting

Digusting.

Disgusting.

Now Brumfitt is raising money via Kickstarter to produce a documentary called “EMBRACE” that will explore the origins of women body shaming and loathing.
The campaign started as part of her own journey to lose weight and achieve the perfect body. To get it, she entered herself into a body-building competition, but then she had a baby.
Her body changed but she said she loved to love that imperfect body.
What has really been the catalyst is a “Before-After” photo she posted on her Body Image group’s Facebook page that went viral and grew 3 million likes.
The campaign, which launched on May 10, is already half funded at about $100,000 but has 46 days to go. Something tells us, she will surpass her goal pretty soon.

Father’s Day: 5 tips for helping dads prepare for labor & delivery

As we start thinking about getting dads gifts for this Father’s Day, it’s also a good time to remember and consider how crucial dads are for helping moms-to-be deal with pregnancy and get through labor and delivery of a child with ease and as little problems as possible. Fathers are great that way and are even better when they are prepared. Lamaze International offers these 5 tips to help dads prepare for and provide support through pregnancy, labor and birth:

1) Take a childbirth education class with your partner.
The benefits of a good childbirth education class can often be overlooked. A class can help dads, and other support people, learn about the different options and interventions, and get the tools and knowledge to push for the best care during pregnancy, labor and birth. It can also spark the conversation between and among couples, so you can learn from one another and interact with other expectant parents in your shoes.

2) Work with mom to plan.
Talk things through with one another and with your care provider. Chances are greater for a positive birth outcome if support begins early on in pregnancy. Discuss the different options for a safe and healthy birth, and map a pathway to get there. Labor and birth can be a dynamic process so it’s vital to work with mom to create Plan A, Plan B and Plan C.

3) Learn how to be an advocate for mom. Birth is an intense process, emotionally and physically. It’s important for dads to be informed and know how to advocate for her wishes. She may come under pressure from family members or healthcare providers and the father’s voice is important in pushing for the safest, healthiest care.

4) Find out about techniques to help minimize the pain.
There are many natural ways, such as relaxation, to find greater comfort in childbirth and help labor progress. Every woman is unique and has her own ways of feeling safe, comfortable and relaxed. Whether she uses a hot shower or bath, hip squeezes and pressure points, or birth ball exercises, dads can help mom identify the pain-relief tools that are best suited for her individual needs.

5) Be prepared to welcome baby into the world (and help mom recover).  Birth can be exhausting for both mom and baby, and dad can help to support both after birth. He can help mom by managing visitor times, rocking baby to sleep after feeding, and making sure mom is fed and gets enough rest.

Celebrity First Mother’s Day social Media share in PHOTOS

Many of the celebrity women whose pregnancies we tracked last year shared some of their joys during their first Mother’s Day with their fans and followers in social media. Here are some of the images and messages they posted online this past May 11.

Kim Kardashian and daughter North – “This little girl has changed my world in more ways than I ever could have imagined! Being a mom is the most rewarding feeling in the world! Happy Mothers Day to all of the moms out there!”

Bounce House Safety: Over 30,000 injured in inflatables, Safety Commission reports (VIDEOS)

Many are shocked of the news this week about two New York boys injured Monday afternoon when a strong gust of wind blew the bounce house they were playing in during a birthday party 50 feet in the air.
It carried them and a 10-year old girl across a townhouse community before dropping them out on a parked car and the asphalt, and eventually collapsing on a structure in South Glen Fall.
The boys, ages 5 and 6,  suffered several broken bones and other injuries and are in the hospital while the girl escaped with minor scrapes. This was the last in a series of bounce house mishaps over the years. ABC News has reported on several over the past few months. The industry isn’t regulated and anyone can purchase a commercial grade bounce house for about $1,000. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that there were over 30,000 injuries from 2003 to 2007 from inflatable amusement apparatuses.
See the Videos below, which report that in 2013, three bounce houses blew away in Arizona.
Make sure this Spring and Summer and in the future that if you get one for your kid’s party that the stakes are hammered strongly into the ground, use reputable professional companies, not companies that rent them out as a side-business, including some that are not insured.
Further, perhaps avoid DIY jobs and the temptation to purchase your own from a big box wholesaler like Sam’s Club or Costco because the risk of cutting costs may not be worth it. Reputable and insured companies will not permit a bounce house to be used if the winds exceed 15 miles per hour.

Earn your teen’s respect naturally, Here’s how

As a child approaches adolescence, the natural exploration of boundaries and the need to assert his own independence often leaves his parents feeling as if all respect between them has dissipated. Arguing, defiance and even foul language are normal, though admittedly incredibly frustrating, aspects of parenting a teenager. While regaining a teen’s respect may seem like an impossible proposition, there are ways that you can restore some semblance of balance and civility to your relationship as he gets older. While patience and a refusal to reward bad behavior are the keys to maintaining a measure of order in your home as the parent of teenagers, there are some methods that can supplement your efforts along the way.
Show Respect
In order to maintain your teenager’s respect, you’ll need to make sure that you show the same measure of respect in return. If you resort to shouting, threats and anger to get your point across, your teen isn’t likely to have much respect for your pleas for civility. Demanding that your adolescent child blindly follows your directions and falls in line with your rules while refusing to show any sort of respect for their own valid feelings and needs is far more likely to backfire than to inspire rank-and-file obedience.
Set Reasonable Boundaries
Just as younger children need to know what the boundaries of acceptable behavior are in order to stay within them, so will your teen. The difference between them is that your teenager will need a bit of independence to make his own choices. Allowing him a reasonable amount of space to explore the world as he matures will allow your teen to make mistakes that will serve as learning experiences, and not feel as if he’s being stifled by the demands of adults that he views as out of touch with the world. While you certainly don’t want to encourage dangerous experimentation or condone bad decisions that will affect the rest of his life, it is wise to give him ample space to make a few minor mistakes he can learn from.
Maintain an Open Line of Communication
When a teen feels as if you’re completely out of touch and aren’t willing to listen to him, he’s not likely to approach you with his concerns or seek advice from you about difficult situations he faces. Making sure that you establish and maintain an open line of judgment-free communication reinforces the idea that he can still come to you when he’s in trouble, and that you will respect his growing maturity. In return, your teen is more likely to extend the same respect to you.
Try Not to Feel Hurt or Rejected
It’s normal to feel as if you’re being rejected by your teenager when he seems to constantly choose his friends and peers over you, but it’s important to remember that it’s a natural part of growing up. Feeling that pain is understandable and acceptable, but it’s not a good idea to act on your hurt feelings by lashing out or establishing excessively restrictive rules that force him to spend his free time with you. Forced time is not quality time, and will almost certainly end in a showdown.
Realize That “Do as I Say, Not as I Do” is Counter-Productive
The desire to ensure that your child doesn’t make the same mistakes you have or exhibit the same problem personality traits can create an environment in which you expect your child to follow your instructions while you openly flout them. The “do as I say, not as I do” approach isn’t effective when children are young, but it can truly come back to haunt you when a teenager accuses you of hypocrisy and unfairness. Try to model the behavior you want your teen to exhibit to the best of your abilities to avoid these altercations and encourage him to respect you.
Give Them Responsibilities
Kids who have no responsibilities and a sense of entitlement that leads them to feel as if the world owes them everything have no respect for anyone or anything. Making sure that your children have some responsibilities, both financial and in the way of chores or daily tasks, may not seem like a recipe for respect on the surface, however the qualities that having some responsibility instills naturally extend themselves to having a bit more respect than their overindulged peers.

Kate Middleton’s phone hacked 155 times, newspaper editor admits

Former News of the World royal editor Clive Goodman admitted in court today that he had hacked the voicemails of Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Kate Middleton‘s phone was hacked 155 times, Prince William‘s was illegally accessed 35 times and Harry’s messages on nine occasions, the Old Bailey in Central London was told.
Goodman was forced to admit that his hacking while at the newspaper was much wider than he had previously disclosed, after being shown his phone records from 2005 and 2006.
The 56-year-old was jailed in 2007 for illegally accessing the voicemails on royal aides’ mobiles.
He told the court: ‘There has been no intention to deceive you or anybody else about my involvement in hacking. If anyone asks me an open question, I will give an open answer.’
The Duchess was allegedly first hacked on December 12, 2005, by Goodman after he was handed her voicemail details by private detective Glenn Mulcaire.
He intercepted her voicemails repeatedly on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and again on Boxing Day of 2005, the court was told. He allegedly started hacking Prince William in January 2006 and then began intercepting Prince Harry’s voicemails the same year.
Goodman said: ‘I’m saying I hacked Prince Harry and I am being open and honest. It is not a question of being forced to accept this, I’ve never been asked.’
He said the last hack of Prince Harry was on May 5, 2006, while he last hacked Kate Middleton on August 7, 2006, the day before he was arrested
