John Legend threw Chrissy Teigen an Epic 30th Birthday Party and Dave Chappelle was There!

john legend foodie

This might be old news for some of you all, but over the Thanksgiving weekend, John Legend threw his pregnant wife talk show host and model Chrissy Teigen an epic 30th birthday party at the NYC Comedy club Comedy Cellar.

The best part is he got the now-reclusive comic genius Dave Chappelle to come out and  perform a comedy set for her! That’s love! Dude doesn’t gig that  much any more and only does occasional sets here and there.

“Chrissy’s birthday party on Saturday was pretty amazing,”Legend captioned a photo of Chappelle on his Instagram page. “She wanted to celebrate her 30th with some of her favorite things: comedy, great food and good friends. So we took over the Comedy Cellar for the night, with the catering of @davidchang and the @momolongplay team.

“The Comedy Cellar helped us curate a talented group of comedians to make us laugh all night, and our surprise (to Chrissy, not to me) closer was the incomparable, brilliant Dave Chappelle. Thanks so much to Dave for his generosity. he freestyled for about 2 hours and it was genius. I’ve heard about his small club sets but this was the first time I was able to see it in person. He’s so good and we felt so fortunate to witness it.”

Here is a video from the night of Legend leading the crowd in singing the famous foodie, “Happy Birthday”. Fun times!

After 47 years, Oprah Winfrey finally Gives her Deceased Premature Son a Name

oprah winfrey son

It took 47 years, but yesterday Oprah Winfrey finally decided on a name for the premature baby she gave birth to at age 14: Canaan.

During a stop on the business mogul’s “An Evening with Oprah Winfrey” tour in Melbourne, Australia yesterday, December 2,  the former talk show host and business tycoon told an audience the name and how she came to decide on it.

“I did an interview with a reporter before I came to Australia and she said you should name the baby son who died,” Winfrey announced to attendees of the event. “So I have named him, I had a little boy named Canaan.”

The declaration looks like it represents growth towards the acceptance and release of the shame associated with her traumatic childhood.

“I did have a son and I named him Canaan because Canaan means new land, new life,” she said.

The media mogul also talked intimately about the circumstances that led to the pregnancy and the  feelings she had around the time she was forced to carry a baby to term at such a young age.

“I was raped at nine years old by a cousin, then again by another family member, and another family member,” news.com.au reports she said, before adding  that she tried to conceal her growing baby bump because of the “pain and shame” she felt.

The baby eventually died and remained a secret until 1990 when a family member made the news public.  Following that unauthorized leak, Winfrey said she was concerned the news would impact her career negatively.

“I took to my bed and cried for three days,” she wrote in a February 2007 issue of O! The Oprah Magazine. “I felt devastated. Wounded. Betrayed. How could this person do this to me?”

She added, “I imagined that every person on the street was going to point their finger at me and scream, ‘Pregnant at 14, you wicked girl … expelled!’ [But] I soon realized that having the secret out was liberating. What I learned for sure was that holding the shame was the greatest burden of all.”

So wonderful to learn that not only is she freed from the burden of that secret but she may have gotten some closure or at least greater acceptance of her past by coming up with a name at last.

How triumphant it is!

Kensington Palace Release new Princess Charlotte Photos

charlotte

Kensington Palace today released new photos of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge that her mom Kate Middleton (Duchess Catherine) took recently.  In the photos, the adorable 6-months old is sitting in green and blue gingham upholstered chair and laughing at teddy bear in that same chair in another. Both photos were taken by mom.

“The Duke and Duchess hope everyone enjoys these new photos of Princess Charlotte as much as they do,” the Palace captioned the two photos tweeted this morning.

Very cute, though, personally, I’m still partial to her older brother, 2-year old Prince George. Maybe it’s a first born bonding thing or maybe because he has the same name of the county I live in, Prince George’s County, Maryland. ha!

This is the second time the Millennial royal couple broke with tradition and skipped the hiring of the official palace photographer. As with Charlotte and George’s first photos, her taken by mom and George’s (a family photo) taken by Middleton’s dad.

Could this Be the Most Popular Celebrity Baby Name This Year?

Whoa! These three favor one another but what does Kristin Cavallari, Liv Tyler and Bristol Palin have in common? All three have decided to name their newborns Sailor or a variation. Is this the new celebrity name trend?

On Tuesday, November 23, Cavallari and her husband Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler welcomed their third child and first girl, Saylor James Cutler.

Saylor James Cutler was born today at 132pm!! ??

A photo posted by Kristin Cavallari (@kristincavallari) on

Not long after, reality TV star and daughter to former US VP Presidential candidate and Alaska governor Sarah Palin, came forward to announce that she had already selected that name for her daughter before Cavallari gave birth.

“When you find out @kristincavallari named her baby the exact name you are naming yours ?? what a weird coincidence .. congrats on your new bundle, and I do love her name,” the ex Dancing With The Stars Contestant captioned a photo of a personalized onesie with an alternative version of Cavallari’s daughter’s name: Sailor.. “Still naming my baby girl Sailor!”

Well Liv Tyler beat them both to the punch when she named her second child, Sailor Gene Gardner.

And actually, model Christie Brinkley beat them all when she named her son Sailor in 1998! Ha!

We wonder who will hop on the trend next? It’s the new “Monroe“.

Judge: Sherri Shepherd cannot Remove Her Name from surrogate Child’s Birth Certificate

Monday, an appeal court upheld a lower court’s decision that previously decided that Sherri Shepherd cannot remove her name from 1-year old LJ’s birth certificate, PEOPLE reported.

LJ is a product of a surrogate pregnancy in 2013 that started before The View cohost and her now ex-husband Lamar Sally split.

Surrogate carrier Jessica Bartholomew was still pregnant at the time.

Since the baby’s birth Shepherd has been trying to fight being parentally responsible for the offspring.

The two entered a settlement regarding payment of child support which is ongoing. In April, a Pennsylvania judge ordered the support and ruled that Shepherd is legally the baby’s mom.

But Shepherd appealed a trial court ruling denying her from removing her name from his birth certificate.

Her name was originally not included because she was not present at the birth, and refused to acknowledge she was the mother, resulting in litigation, Melissa Brisman, owner of the New Jersey-based Reproductive Possibilities, previously told PEOPLE.

Shepherd told the magazine in August that the only reason she agreed to the surrogacy is because she feared Sally wild leave her if she didn’t.

Why Everyone’s Saying Mark Zuckerberg’s Planned 2-Month Paternity Leave is a Big Deal

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday that he planned to take a two month paternity leave when his wife Priscilla Chan gives birth to their first child, a daughter. The personal decision is being hailed as a victory for parental rights and family leave policies.

In an opinion piece today, writer Catherine Rampell writes that Zuckerberg’s announcement could be used to shape policy or at least conventional opinion on men taking longer  periods off from work after their wives give birth.

New moms would attest that the extra hand is welcome and needed.  Recent surveys from Society for Human Resource Management and the Families and Work Institute indicate that only 1 in 6 firms in America offer paid paternity leave outside the tech sector which is quite advanced comparatively in the parental leave area.

“But even when men are offered paid leave, they usually don’t take it, or at least not for any substantial period of time,” Rampell writes. “After California passed a law entitling most workers, both male and female, to up to six weeks of paid family leave, the average father took a whopping 7.5 days off after the birth of a child.”

Wow!

Touring the new San Francisco Acute Care and Trauma Center the Zuckerberg’s donation helped build on November 7. The Hospital is named after them.

Jenna McGregor, also from the post, writes in a similar piece today, “Research from Boston College’s Center for Work & Familyfound in 2011 that 76 percent of fathers are back to work within a week of a child’s birth or adoption; 96 percent return within two weeks. Last year, the same center found that less than 10 percent of fathers took six weeks or more off.”

But millenials, leading with Zuckerberg, are changing the norm. That’s because he’s helping to finally destigmatize paternity leave.

Rampell cites that  survey after survey show that fathers want to be more active co-parents and more present in their children’s lives.

As a flip in gender roles, men today are struggling to balance work and family, and dealing with parental guilt, even more so than women.

But to do something about it and actually take paternal leave when offered? The stigma of being viewed as weak, not masculine or not committed enough to their jobs is what stops them, Rampell summarizes.

“Such stigma hurts not only those frustrated, guilt-ridden fathers, but also children and beleaguered mothers,” she continues “Research has shown that when women disproportionately take advantage of work-life accommodations, employers end up punishing women as a class, relegating them to so-called mommy tracks. Those women who do manage to hang on to demanding full-time careers are more likely to get stuck working the exhausting “second shift” at home than their male counterparts are.”

Unfair, but with more men in high profile and influential positions like Zuckerberg take extended time off, there could be a shift in mindset and eventually policy.

McGregor posits that an equal paternity leave policy could help adjust gender pay inequity too.

“Such benefits serve two functions: They help attract employees, particularly younger ones, who are more interested in sharing parenting responsibilities and improving work-life balance,” McGregor opines. “But they also make it possible for men to take the kind of leaves that could help improve the gender gap in both pay and leadership positions.”

Both are interesting pieces, and are akin to all the chatter and buzz abound during  Yahoo!‘s CEO Marissa Mayer‘s pregnancies.
