These 2 Family Households Tasks are THE most time consuming

There are two piles that will perpetually exist in any

family home on any given time of the day at any given month of the year:
1) a

pile of papers, bills, school forms to be sorted through;
2.) And a pile of

laundry waiting to be sorted.
If you are not one of the ones fortunate enough to have a

butler, personal assistant, housekeeper and/or nanny as part of your household

staff, the burden will fall on you to process and manage the cycle of laundry

and papers that navigate in and out of the space that exist on your entry door

table, the kitchen and/or dining room table, and various spots on the floor in

different rooms of the house.
Papers! Papers! Where did all this Paper come From?!
For me, once a month, I go through the seemingly endless

pile of junk mail, bills, and advertisement mailers, and through the mounds  of crumpled up stuff I

found from emptying  bottoms of my kids’

bookbags of lost birthday party invitations, school trip forms, test papers

with the blank line for parent signature still blank because you never saw it,

picture order forms, field trip permission slips etc.
The task usually takes about an hour at least because there

are 5 people in my household and my kids’ school hasn’t yet figured out how to

send me one set of weekly announcements and billfolds so I end up getting them

in triplicate form from each of my three children.  I get all the paper despite the fact that the papers are also

available electronically at the kids’ school website! Oy.
Before even sorting, I have to recoup the mini piles that

have built up on various tables everywhere along my home.  This is the case even though I had previously

set up a basket in the entry way table designated

for that stuff and had a nice organized accordion file system all set up to help

manage school papers.
The plan is always easier than the execution.  The build up is the enemy because with you

being the only one to understand your “system”, it is also up to you, with your

500 item to-do-list to keep up with it. *sigh*
I sort the papers into three piles: 1) trash, 2) read and file

away and 3) sign and stick in a kids’ folder and send them with it for their next

school day, with a reminder to apologize to the teacher (Parent of the year award, I will not be getting.).

Phew!!

P.I.T.A (Pain in the ass) Part II: The laundry

Another beast is laundry.
I am fortunate to have a spouse who

washes and dries clothes weekly. He even irons the kids’ uniforms and folds

them away. I’m grateful but with all that work he does, he has no time finish all the crap that needs to be done to truly harness the laundry piles.  Thus, I get the task of having to sort the rest of the piles, quarter off the stuff they won’t ever wear again that should be chucked

in the Goodwill pile (which will stay there for weeks before they find their way into garbage bags, another week before the bags make it into the trunk of a minivan before another month passes and they eventually get to Goodwill at last); and then put all the folded stuff in their drawers and

hang up the rest in closets.
Also, if someone doesn’t find and fold away all those

various socks, your kids are doomed to become known as” bozo the clown socks

wearer” forever.   This just  after your nagging your kids about the importance of daily teeth brushing staved off

from a sentence of being known as “stinky breath McStinkser” finally worked and

they’re doing it on their own without daily reminders.
Laundry can take 4 to 5 hours for a large household of 5 or

more.  Then you have the arduous task of making sure

everyone has sufficient things to wear for the next 7 days until you repeat the

process. If not, you’re off to Walmart to pick up the 12th pack of tube socks you bought that year.

 Damn you, Sock Monster!

It’s all a good reason why you need to pray for an

inheritance or buy your lottery tickets regularly so you can finally get the household

wait staff you deserve.
(smile)

Until then, Godspeed parents

What does it mean when you dream you are pregnant?

If you ever wondered what it means to dream about being pregnant,  Ally Mead who has studied dream analysis at the Jungian Institute of Los Angeles analyzed  the very common dream:
What do dreams about being pregnant mean?“At its core, this dream is about creativity,” Mead says. “Women literally create new life out of their bodies. If you dream of being pregnant, you are likely craving time to be creative, or ‘dreaming up’ a new and exciting creative project that will come into existence down the line. This could be as small as a home-based renovation project or a large-scale artistic work.”
What can I learn about myself from dreaming about being pregnant?“Pregnancy dreams are often multi-layered and speak about something inside — represented by the fetus — that has not yet been acknowledged or presented to the world,” Mead says. “I find that people who have disowned goals and desires often dream of pregnancies. For example, someone who might have wanted to act, but chose the safe path of being a lawyer, may be plagued with pregnancy dreams until he or she takes steps to at least connect with that earlier passion.”

25 Time Hacks to save you time in your day

As busy people and parents with little time to do all we want to do, finding shortcuts in life are wonderful. We’ve gathered 25 Hacks for Life that may save your a few seconds here and there throughout the day.
If you practice some of these time-saving habits, they add up to your productivity in this otherwise hectic world:
1. Hands Free for Time and Safety – While you’re driving, a headset leaves your hands free to manage the task of driving safely. After your commute, wearing a headset allows you to be productive with both hands while you’re on hold or conducting routine calls.
2. Super-Charge Your Wake-Up Routine – Slapping the snooze button may be tempting, but you should jump out of bed and do ten brisk push-ups instead. When you stand up, you’ll be alert and ready to face the day.

3. Keep Your Cables Tangle-Free – The same clips that keep large bundles of paper secure can keep your various cables from tangling, which takes forever to undo. Just clamp the clips along the edge of your desk, and feed cables through the holes in the handles.

4. Jump-Start Your Breakfast Prep – Breakfast doesn’t have to be a cup of coffee and an energy bar on your way out the door. Preparing pancake batter and pouring it into an empty ketchup bottle at night allows you to take it out of the refrigerator and squeeze it directly on a hot griddle in the morning. No mixing, no clean-up!

5. Open Blister Packs with Ease – Those plastic blister packs can take forever to open, shredding your fingers in the process. Before you start ripping into one, grab a manual can opener and run it along the edge. It’ll open the blister pack without pain or hassle.

6. Refresh Your Collar Without Ironing – Setting up an ironing board and dealing with the tedium of ironing simply to refresh a shirt collar isn’t necessary. An electric hair straightening styling appliance will do the job just as well, with none of the time-consuming set-up.

7. Keep Kids Safely in Their Beds – If you’re sacrificing valuable sleep because your child keeps rolling out of her big-girl bed, tuck a foam pool noodle into the fitted sheet along the edge of her bed. It creates a raised area that your child isn’t likely to roll over without waking herself up.

8. Turn Your Takeout Container into a Plate – Chinese takeout is a delectable lunch, but eating straight out of the container can be a pain. If you have a relatively dry, sauce-free dish that won’t make a mess on a flat surface, just take the metal handle out of the box and let it collapse outward. Instant disposable plate!

9. Skip the Fabric Softener On Towels – Fabric softener might make your towels more cuddly, but it cuts their absorbency significantly.

10. Stave Off Boil-Overs – Juggling a dinnertime routine when you’re already rushed can lead to a huge mess, but resting a wooden spoon across the top of a pot of boiling water will at least prevent it from boiling over while your attention is elsewhere.

11. Keep Takeout Warm En Route – If your car has seat warmers, flip the switch to the “on” position when you pick up takeout food. The warm seat will help to keep the food from getting cold on your way back.

12. Take Garbage Out at Warp Speed – Suction issues can make it difficult to wrestle a garbage bag out of the pail. Drilling a couple of small holes on each side of the vertical edge along the bottom can eliminate that suction.

13. Quick-Filter Email – A flooded inbox doesn’t have to be overwhelming. To target marketing mail, filter by the word “unsubscribe.”

14. Dust Tiny Spaces in a Flash – Placing the conical cap of a cheap condiment bottle over the hose attachment of a vacuum cleaner creates in impromptu “tiny spaces” vacuum attachment.

15. Ask For Directions Efficiently – If you’re lost in an unfamiliar neighborhood, the fastest and most efficient directions come from the staff of a pizza delivery restaurant.

16. Shop for Groceries Sans List – If you don’t have time to make a comprehensive list, take pictures of the inside of your refrigerator and pantry with your smartphone. You can use these for reference while you’re at the store.

17. Chill Bottled Beverages On the Double – If you’re craving a cold beverage and your entire stock is warm, wrap a bottle in a wet paper towel and leave it in the freezer for 15 minutes.

18. Hull Strawberries in Seconds – Few things are as time-consuming as hulling strawberries, unless you insert a straw through the bottom so that it emerges at the stem, pushing the hull out along the way.

19. Make Canvas Shoes Waterproof – Wet feet are irritating and create the need to change shoes while you’re out. To waterproof your favorite pair of canvas shoes, rub the entire outer surface with beeswax then heat with a hair dryer. When the wax cools, your shoes will be sealed from moisture.

20. Boost Your Phone’s Speaker Power – If you need to boost the sound of your smartphone’s speakers for an impromptu conference call, drop it into a bowl to amplify the sound.

21. Spread Cold Butter on Your Toast – Cold butter may eventually spread over warm toast, but it will probably tear it in the process. Using a cheese grater to shower the surface of your toast with slivers of butter will speed the melting process and preserve the wholeness of your perfectly toasted bread.

22. -Stove Grilled Cheese – Turning your toaster on its side and placing a piece of bread with cheese on it, cheese-side-up will melt the cheese while toasting the bread. Press the two together, and you have a no-stove grilled cheese in a fraction of the time. Watch it carefully though, so it doesn’t burn.

23. Remove Chewing Gu

m from FabricsA wad of gum rubbed into your favorite scarf doesn’t have to spell the scarf’s end. Pop it in the freezer to let the gum harden, and you can usually break it off the fibers easily.

24. Quick-Thaw a Frozen Lock – A frozen lock on your car door doesn’t have to make you late for an appointment. Just squirt an alcohol-based hand sanitizer on the key before you insert it, and the alcohol will melt the ice in a flash.

25. Soap Sliver Time Saver – Don’t waste time fumbling with a tiny sliver of soap, just stick it to the back of a new bar. It’s not wasted and you’re not scrambling to keep in in your hands during a shower.

Chelsea Clinton-Kate Middleton hospital release comparisons are driving some crazy

So you guys know, three days after welcoming her first childChelsea Clinton left the hospital yesterday, Monday, September 29 in a Columbia blue and white patterned mini dress, cradling her daughter in swaddled blankets, flanked by her husband Marc Mezvinsky.

Media sites immediately started comparing the optics to Kate Middleton‘s hospital release after giving birth to Prince George in 2013. Middleton wore a blue polka dot dress with Prince William at her side in a blue shirt and black slacks.
The royal fans in the comment sections of these pieces and people who dislike the Clintons went beserk over the comparison! Aye!
Won’t share the toxicity here but we find the similar looks endearing. Most likely, it was unintentional. Chelsea recently gave up her $600,000 a year cushy job at NBC as a special correspondence to focus on her new role as a mom and her existing job working for her dad’s Clinton Global Initiative and Foundation.

Now that those FAQs about Ebola in the US are Outdated, here’s what you should know for your family

This is not to guilt-trip anyone in the US but so far, many have been able to not pay much attention to the fact Ebola victims’ children left to be orphans are shunned in their community and left to fiend for themselves, and face death.
The disease, also called hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HF), is  contagious and life-threatening and was first spotted in Africa in 1976, and is named for the Ebola river in the Congo. It broke out in recent months in my native Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea (with one case in Nigeria and another in Senegal).
As with many epidemics and pandemics, when they are not affecting us directly or are at our shores, it is quite easy for us in the US and the West, generally, to go about our daily lives aloof, in a way, to global suffering, which occurs daily worldwide.
However, the first verified and confirmed case of ebola was diagnosed in Dallas, Texas today.
And now we know that recent Centers for Disease Control information (spotted in Time in August 2014) is already outdated:

Are we safe in the United States?

Yes. There have been no reported cases of Ebola spreading to the U.S. The two American aid workers who recently became infected with Ebola in West Africa were flown back to the U.S. and hospitalized immediately. While Ebola is contagious, it is not as contagious as the flu. Special medical planes and vehicles were used to transport the infected patients to prevent the disease from spreading.

Can the Ebola outbreak be stopped?

Yes. Experts know how to control Ebola. They are now working to stop the outbreak in West Africa, which is the best way to protect people in the U.S. and around the world. Once Ebola is brought under control in the infected countries, there will be no new cases and the virus will stop spreading. However, experts are unsure of how long it will take to end the current Ebola outbreak.

However, notwithstanding, now that it has landed in the US, it is probably safe to assume all slow-moving efforts to get clinical trials done on human patients to advance the discovery of a vaccine and treatment for patients will be accelerated.
The one case we have here now is from a man who traveled from Liberia but showed no symptoms when he arrived, although he had been in contact with family members who had the disease while he was in Liberia. The CDC is tracking those he had been in contact with since then to notify them and make sure they are being monitored.
Here is to hoping it is discovered soon. Until then, for those of you who may be concerned, and may have come in contact with someone that patient encountered and not know it, all you can do is wash your hands  frequently and stay sterile.
“One of the most important measures for preventing the spread of pathogens is effective hand washing,” the CDC states. “This hygienic behavior has been shown to significantly reduce the incidence of child deaths from diarrhea (the second leading cause of child deaths) by almost half and from pneumonia (the leading cause of child deaths) by one-quarter which together are responsible for approximately 3.5 million child deaths every year.”
Beyond Ebola, with regular hand washing hands with soap, families and communities can help reduce child morbidity rates from diarrheal diseases by almost 50 per cent.”
Stay safe!

UPDATE: RHOA’s Kandi Burruss speaks on pregnancy rumors (AUDIO)

During a radio interview last week, BravoTV‘s Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Buruss addressed rumors (um including some fueled by our blog post) that she was expecting.  The reports started after she canceled her musical theater production, ” A Mother’s Love”.
The star of the short  Bravo series Kandi’s Wedding confirmed that she and her new husband Todd Tucker have been “working diligently” on getting pregnant
“I have all this stuff going on. Once things happen and I’m blessed with the situation, I’ll figure it out. Don’t we all?” she  told on the “Russ Parr Morning Show”, adding “as far as I know, we haven’t had any luck. I’ve been seeing people tweeting…but I haven’t confirmed that.”
