Merriam-Webster Dictionary adds Baby Bump, Selfie, Hashtag, Tweep & Catfish

No Joke, the Merriam-Webster dictionary added 2nd time mom -to-be Alyssa Milano to its words roster!
Well, not really but it did today add the words “Selfie” and “Baby Bump” which is represented in the Mistresses star’s recent Instagram photo with the caption that included “hashtags” (“#shortpeoplecarrybig #noitsnottwins.”) among the 150 new words.
It defines:

Baby Bump: the enlarged abdomen of a pregnant woman

Selfie: an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks
Hashtag: a word or phrase preceded by the symbol # that classifies or categorizes the accompanying text [such as a tweet]
Other fun, social media and tech words added and defined indlude:
Tweep: a person who uses the Twitter online message service to send and receive tweets

Catfish: a person who sets up a false social networking profile for deceptive purposes.
Crowdfunding: (pretty much what Kickstarter is) the practice of soliciting financial contributions from a large number of people especially from the online community.
Social Networking:  the creation and maintenance of personal and business relationships especially online.
Cool. Now if only it can add “mansplaining” the circle would be complete.

Driving While Pregnant: 2nd Trimester pregnant women more likely to get in car crash, study says

So “Driving While Pregnant” is a thing.
New research published today in the Canadian Medical Association Journal suggests that women who are in their second trimester of pregnancy are 42% more likely  to get involved in a serious multi-car crash.
The data impacted all groups of pregnant second-trimester women across different socioeconomic and racial groups.
Researchers stopped short of recommending that pregnant women not drive but instead warned that they should be extra mindful of the risk while driving.
“It amounts to about 1 in 50 statistical risk of the average women having a motor vehicle crash at some point during her pregnancy,” Donald Redelmeier of the University of Toronto said in a release.

Fashion Police: 2014 Billboard Awards Worst and Best Dressed (PHOTOS)

Last night at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grande in Las Vegas, Nevada, the biggest buzz was generated by the hologram of the late Michael Jackson which performed along with live and hologram dancers during the award show. We however were fixated on the red carpet and all of the wow and buzz-worthy gowns, dresses and outfits worn by our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums and others.

We cannot help but point out and comment on some notable looks, Fashion Police/West and Worst Dressed style:

My haven’t the Jenner girls grown up Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner looked grown up and sophisticated in their Olcay Gulsen Spring 2014 looks which are youthful, playful and age-appropriate. Kendall carried a Jimmy Choo tube clutch  and

J.Lo, Max and Emme’s mom, was giving life in this crimson Donna Karan belted dress.
We were equally wowed by Nicki Minaj‘s elegant Alexander McQueen dress which revealed a hint of  underboobage and cut outs in the bodice. We are also wondering what happened to her ample hips and bottom. But the wavy 40s style black hair with the gold cuffs make this look a total winner!
If you’ve got the body and small waistline to pull it off why not go with this low cut black cropped top and black floor length skirt with large slit that newly married Kelly Rowland wore, accented with gold bangles and killer dangling earrings.
Iggy Azalea cleans up well in a red Zuhair Murad pre-Fall 2014 gown. Can’t say the same for what’s coming out of her mouth though. Oh did we say that out loud?
Our 2011-2012 Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Shakira worked the heck out of her blue Julien Macdonald Fall 2014 mid-length dress with sheer side while posing with her partner Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique.
This is an interesting look for Carrie Underwood in Oriett Domenech and certainly a brave choice. Love the color but not the cut neither the hair.
My how country fashion has changed since the year’s when Shania Twain‘s crop tops and tight jeans were causing a stir. Miranda Lambert went with a hot pink Georges Hobeika Spring 2014 Signature dress with a plunging sheer neckline
Awww we see a mom-to-be!  The tiny bump on Genevieve Tedder the wife of  One Republic‘s Ryan Tedder was tres cute and looked well in her grey slim dress belted Empire waist style above the belly. She could’ve ditched the super heavy necklace. Dad looked like he was about to go out for a ride on his Harley not go into an award show, but whatevs. It’s not about the dudes.
Speaking of  Shania Twain. This is a nice conservative and age-appropriate look yet boring in basic black Roberto Cavalli, but it works for her even though it lacks wow power.
No. That is all for Natasha Bedingfield in this not sure how to describe it.

We won’t comment more on Wiz Khalifa‘s look because well…what can be said? But Amber Rose was going for half of the Daft Punk mask meets Wednesday Adams? Not sure. Perhaps she is knocked up again and hiding a growing belly. Hmmmm
After recently coming out from a treatment facility for an eating disorder, Kesha looks healthy and glam.
When are these guys going to be having their first kid? Not really loving the super long bangs on model Christy Tiegen in Fyodor Golan accessorized with and her doting hubby John Legend in a typical London’esque suit.
Wow! American Idol finalist, pop star and actress Jordin Sparks has slimmed down tremendously but we’re not sure this cut of  this Michael Costello dress is best for her new figure and the large Goddess like cornrows is a mismatch for the glam sequinned number.
Why is this young girl (Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland) aging herself in this boxy Emilio Pucci suit?
And the group “Us the Duo” get the award for the best etchnic garb and marrying of patterns and shapes. Together, they are a wonderful sight for sore eyes.

Celeb moms at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival (PHOTOS)

The 67th annual Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France is coming to a close and this week, we spotted some of our favorite celebrity moms on the red carpet to various events looking very glam and super gorgeous in some elegant and ornate designer gowns and dresses.
Here is a rundown of our favorites:

Cate Blanchett‘ was elegance personified in this gorgeous Valentino gown  that she wore at the Chopard Trophy ceremony. Cause meets Celebrity as she wore shrimp earrings and a snail bracelet from the Chopard Animal World Collection.

Wow! Wow! Actress Julianne Moore went bold attending the Calvin Klein Party wearing a burgundy Calvin Klein coset made of varnished leather and paired with a spiral skirt in black embroidered satin, accessorized with Chpard jewels, a Louis Vuitton black “Epi Electci Petite Malle” clutch, and a black LV patent leather belt. I love it!!!

Moore also wowed attendees in an off the shoulder mauve and grey Calvin Klein tea-length dress with fishtail bottom, again with Chopard jewels and a Calvin Klein clutch while attending the premier of Mr. Turner. This look is not as wow-worthy but works.

She’s got legs and she knows how to use them. And for Ethiopian supermodel Liya Kebede, this black and blue Roberto Cavalli mini dress paired with sexy strappy Jimmy Choo sandals proves the point!

She’s not a mom yet, but I could not help but drop in a mention of People magazine’s 2014 “Most Beautiful” Lupita Nyong’o because she totally redeemed herself from that Met Ball miss in this  sleek navy mid-length Calvin Klein dress with a tiny slash at the top of her ribcage that she wore to the Calvin Klein party.

Nicole Kidman stunned in an intricate Armani Prive gown to the Festival’s Opening Ceremony and premiere of Grace of Monaco. It worked even more to see her in a healthier, less gaunt size as we’ve been used to lately. The dress is AMAZE.

Salma Hayek was pretty in hot pink at the premiere of The Prophet wearing a very pretty and feminine strapless Sain Laurent dress with eye catching Boucheron asp and a edgy studded Saint Laurent clutch.

Not so glam but executive CEO attire worthy  Bottega Venetta  dress with metallic and lace embellishments that she wore a couple days later at the screening of Hommage Au Cinema D’Animation.

10 Reasons Mothers Cannot Get a Break

 Bellyitch Rewind

You wouldn’t expect to work constantly and not get any vacation time or time off and yet motherhood can seem just that way on a daily basis. There are many reasons mothers don’t get much needed alone time. Sometimes it’s the circumstances and sometimes we get in our own way. Here are ten reasons why personal time escapes many mothers.
1. Mothers have to do everything – Some moms believe that nothing, absolutely nothing, will get done without them. They need to oversee every detail of family life and make sure things are running smoothly. As long as they have that outlook and it works for everyone concerned, chances are nothing is going to change.
2. Perfectionism – The perfect mother doesn’t need alone time, or so she thinks. Trying to live up to the unattainable image of the supermom is a sure way to crash and burn.
3. Demanding kids – Sometimes little ones can be extremely demanding; Mom cannot even go to the bathroom alone. Children like this want to know where Mommy is every minute and she’d better not get out of their eyesight. The idea of alone time for such a mom is just a pipe dream.
4. Fathers that don’t support alone time – If you have a husband that doesn’t support your alone time, it might be much harder to get. Some fathers are kind enough to take the kids while Mom goes off and does something she wants to do or maybe even stays home and takes a bubble bath. But for the mother who doesn’t have that kind of support at home, finding the time to be by herself can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
5. Too busy – Some mothers are workaholics and doing too much all the time to take a break. Every minute is planned and used to the max. This mom gets tons of things accomplished, except perhaps some much needed self care.
6. Over scheduled – Similar to the busy mom this mom is always on the go, but she has some down time. The only problem is that her down time is spent with other people. She’s waiting for the kids to do this or that, she’s at dance rehearsals or foot ball practice. With a little help she could actually manage to get some alone time in there somewhere.
7. Guilt feelings – There are mothers who just feel so guilt ridden about taking private time for themselves, they can’t bring themselves to do it. It feels as if they are stealing time away from the family.
8. Worried about the kids – These moms are worried that something terrible will happen to the kids if they are away, even for a little while. Over protective mothers have a need to hover over their children constantly and really can’t function without them. Chances are many of the hovering moms, in reality, don’t even want time to themselves.
9. Not thinking creatively – All it takes at times is a bit of creative thinking to get a piece of alone time. Most moms could probably figure out how to make it happen if they would take the time to get resourceful with their thinking. You’d be surprised what a little imagination can dream up!
10. Single parents – Mothers who don’t have a backup parent or other family support around them can find it especially difficult to find time for themselves. Trading babysitting favors with other single moms and making time in the early morning or late evenings when the kids are in bed may be options for these moms. Again, creativity is the key.

Report: Substance abuse during pregnancy is on the rise

The prevalence of substance abuse during pregnancy is shocking, said Dr. Peter Lachiewicz, Western Ohio OB/GYN. Between 30 and 40 percent of pregnant Western Ohio OB/GYN patients are suspected of using drugs, tobacco and/or alcohol.
Tennessee is awaiting its governor’s signature on a bill (HB 1295) which recently passed through both sides of Tennessee’s Congress that will criminalize pregnant women for “assaultive offenses” if a child is born “addicted to or harmed by” the mother’s illegal drug use.
“A year ago, the Tennessee Senate, House and governor defeated the bill. So, it’s surprising that now this legislation was passed, despite 100 percent non-approval by physicians and the medical community,” Dr. Lachiewicz reflected. “I talked to a colleague of mine in Tennessee, these women will not seek prenatal care, and then just show up at the end. Or they’re going to tell a lot of lies. Or, like we see here [in Darke County], most drug testing we do through a urine – just like employers do random toxicology screens – just like here, they ‘can’t’ give a urine specimen.”
Dr. Lachiewicz estimated that 30-40 percent of the 250-350 births his practice performs each year are to patients who used some sort of drug during their pregnancy; and some women, he said, don’t even attempt to quit. Those who do wish to quit, do not have access to local resources, because there aren’t any, Lachiewicz noted.
“If you look at what’s out there – you don’t want to say everybody’s doing it, but if you have 30-40 percent of our pregnant moms using, that’s kind of concerning,” Dr. Lachiewicz commented.
“The community leaders in Greenville and Darke County talk about ‘What are we going to do? How do we help these women? etc.’ The resources are just not there. So these women, even if they want to stop – and we just had one who made the decision to go to Columbus on her own – these women really tend to fall through the cracks. And others have no desire to stop.”
