Lil Kim confirms pregnancy while performing at NYFW after party (VIDEO)

Veteran hip hop recording artist Lil Kim recently confirmed her pregnancy during a New York City performance after photos of her bump  Wednesday, February 12 at The Blonds’ New York City fashion week runway show took Twitter by storm.
At a M.A.C. cosmetics-hosted after party for that show at the Gilded Lily, Kim confirmed the news on stage announcing to the crowd while rubbing her belly  “I’m a mom, but I can turn it up a little!”

She later told US Weekly “I’m still going to work,”adding, “I’m still going to be hardcore. The baby has made me even more of a beast!”
The Magic Stick singer who has had on-again-off-again beefs with successor Nicki Minaj, also revealed that she is only a few months along though  many people had speculated that she may be in her later stages of pregnancy. Every woman advances differently as we know.
Blogger Necole Bitchie reminds us that on an episode of VH1‘s Driven, Kim confessed that she was once pregnant with the late rapper Biggie Smalls (a.k.a. Notorious B.I.G.‘s) baby but miscarried.  She mentioned him in the above performance and said “we” all miss him pointing to herself and her belly when telling the audience to remember the anniversary of his violent shooting death was coming up again.

Even though she told US Weekly that she had no plans to reveal the baby’s father, he reportedly stepped up and outed himself.

Twenty-something rapper Mr. Papers, her boyfriend, who was linked to her back in 2012 but was recently reported as having broken up, has come forward on social media.

After Kim’s announcement, he tweeted “Congratz on the royal baby!” and said thank you to a person who congratulated him on the baby news.

Congrats on the impending arrival. Babies are blessings!

Winter Baby Checklist

Bellyitch Rewind

As the East Coast US digs itself out of record snowfall from this week, we thought we’d reshare our popular winter guide to parents of babies born in the winter. Here are some of the items you have to get to keep baby warm and cozy and safe:
Snow suit or heavy bunting Don’t rely on a heavy blanket to protect your baby from the elements. A warm piece that fits over her regular clothes is ideal when you’ll be moving heroutdoors. This should not, however, be used as her sole outfit; instead, dress your infant in layers and check her body temperature often. “Your baby is overheated if he is sweating, has damp hair, a heat rash, rapid breathing, or is restless,” says the University of Minnesota SIDS Center.
Hats, mittens, and foot coverings A knit hat and mittens will protect your infant from wind and chilly temperatures. Once indoors, these items can be removed to avoid overheating. Outfitting your little one with soft, warm baby booties will also prevent heat from escaping through his extremities.
Sweater (2-3) A staple item of any baby’s wardrobe, a sweater is an ideal layering piece. Look for a soft knit with easy buttons or snaps that will fit comfortably over her long-sleeved bodysuits.
Blanket Lightweight receiving blankets may not provide the warmth needed during colder months. A fleece cover retains heat while protecting your baby from winter elements including snow, sleet, and wind.
Footed sleepers and sleep sacks (3-5) Bundling your baby isn’t safe at night, when he can easily overheat. A footed sleeper or sleep sack allows him to stay warm and comfortable when temperatures drop, with the added convenience of not having to sort through layers to change that middle-of-the-night diaper.
Car seat cover and heavy stroller blanket Keep your baby warm and toasty while out and about. Your little one will need an added layer of warmth and protection to enjoy family outdoor activities.
Moisturizing lotion or body oil When purchasing skin products for your baby, look for non-perfumed lotions and oils specially suited to her sensitive skin. Seek out natural, soothing, and emollient ingredients such as almond, olive, coconut, or palm oil; calendula; or marigold. Most pediatricians recommend avoiding antibacterial soaps, baths, and shampoos. Also avoid any baby products containing artificial colors, allergenic or irritating preservatives (such as quaternium 15, imidazolidinyl urea, or parabens), diethanolamine (DEA) or triethanolamine (TEA), and sodium lauryl sulfate or cocamide-DEA.
Home and car emergency kits As inclement weather sets in, it’s wise to have apreparedness kit ready in your home and car. In your car, you should have a first aid kit, portable radio, a flash light and extra batteries, ice scraper, a shovel and a bag of kitty litter (great for getting a stuck tire out of a snow bank), a warm change of clothes and shoes for each member of your family, extra hats, socks and mittens, a charged mobile phone, an emergency blanket and/or warm wool blankets, water, ready-to-eat-formula and a bottle for bottle-fed babies, and snacks. Home kitsshould include a fire extinguisher and first aid kit, set aside a shelf for matches and candles, an oil lamp and oil, flashlight and batteries, extra blankets, and winter clothing gear. Always keep a couple extra gallons of drinking water and a collection of canned goods or pantry items that don’t require cooking on hand. Winter storms can knock out electricity; if your family requires electricity for heating and cooking, you’ll need to be prepared.
Hand sanitizer Keeping yourself healthy is a vital part of caring for your baby. Hand sanitizer helps kill those nasty germs that lurk year-round, but whose effects are so devastating in winter months. While washing with soap and warm water is ideal, antibacterial gels help reduce your and your little one’s exposure to myriad contagions.

Keep those babies warm!

Actor Michael Ealy reveals he and wife had secret baby

While promoting his latest film About Last Night which opens today on the Steve Harvey Show, hunky actor Michael Ealy revealed for the first time publicly that he is already a father.
Ealy, who stars in the 1986 Rob Lowe/Demi Moore chick flick remake, replied to Harvey’s question about married life replied, “We have a son.”
Surprise!!
“I never understand why people announce the birth of their children,” the actor who currently stars in the action TV show Almost Human added.
Um… because there is a very active, alive and interested following of people who love and follow these things, son. ugh!
Ealy and wife Khatira Rafiqzada quietly married in October 2012 to no fanfare and announcement so  it should come as no surprise.
Not to name drop but to name drop, I was born the same year as Ealy and attended college with him at the University of Maryland at the same time and vividly remember him hanging out in our student union building. He is close friends with some of my friends. He was a very quiet character back then too so….
Congrats! Aint parenthood grande? And yes, he told Steve that it has changed him tremendously.
Awwww. Ealy starred in the hit movie Act Like a Man Think Like a Woman which was an adaptation of Harvey’s best selling book. Loved Sleeper Cell, the Showtime mini-series which earned Ealy a Golden Globe nomination in playing an undercover cop who thwarts a major terrorist plot.
About Last Night  also stars Joy Bryant (who I LOVE and who starts in one of my favorite shows Parenthood) and the “it” comedian and star  Kevin Hart.

Just leaving THIS here in case you’d like to stalk Ealy videos on YouTube promoting the movie and previous projects.

Study: Post-Delivery Women still at leg blood clot risk

Women have a higher risk of blood clots that can cause strokes, heart attacks and other problems for 12 weeks after childbirth — twice as long as doctors have thought, new research finds.
Strokes are still fairly rare right after pregnancy but devastating when they do occur and fatal about 10 percent of the time, according to Dr. Hooman Kamel, a neurology specialist at New York’s Weill Cornell Medical College. Blood clots in the legs usually just cause pain but can be fatal if they travel to the lungs.
Kamel led the new study, which was published online in the New England Journal of Medicine and presented at an American Heart Association stroke conference in San Diego on Thursday.
Pregnant women are more prone to blood clots because blood components to prevent excessive bleeding during labor naturally increase, and blood from the legs has more trouble traveling to the heart.
“Sometimes there’s the notion that once they deliver they don’t have to worry about these things,” but risk persists for some time after the birth, said Dr. Andrew Stemer, a Georgetown University neurologist.
Doctors now sometimes give low-dose blood thinners to certain women at higher risk of blood clots for six weeks after delivery. The new study suggests risk lasts longer than that.
It involved nearly 1.7 million California women giving birth to their first child. Over the next year and a half, 1,015 of them developed clots — 248 had strokes, 47 had heart attacks and 720 had clots in the legs or lungs.
The risk of one of these problems was about 11 times greater during the first six weeks after delivery and more than two times greater during weeks seven to 12. After that, it fell to level seen in women who had not had a baby.
