Report: Janet Jackson Dropped 50lbs Since Giving Birth, Ready to Tour

janet-jackson

Janet Jackson is making incredible progress when it comes to shedding the baby weight.

The 51-year-old superstar has already lost 50 pounds since giving birth in January in preparation for her upcoming tour, a source close to the Jackson family tells ET.

And Jackson hasn’t been taking any shortcuts. The new mom has been “training, dieting and eating clean,” to achieve the results, our source says. Jackson’s first tour stop is on Sept. 7 in Lafayette, Louisiana

“Her pregnancy and having a healthy baby were her top priority, so when she canceled her last tour, she knew that she would be making it up to all of her fans once she got on the road again,” the source shares.

As of now, Jackson has no plans to relocate from London back to the Unites States, the source adds. The “Rhythm Nation” singer has been living in London — where her estranged husband, Wissam Al Mana, is based — since before the birth of their son, Eissa. Jackson and Al Mana split three months after Eissa’s birth.

“She’ll call London home,” the source says. “She’s adjusted to life in London and co-parenting with her estranged husband.”

Not surprisingly, Jackson is “heartbroken” over the recent terrorist attacks in Manchester and London.

“She and her brother, Randy, watched the [One Love Manchester] concert,” the source says. “Her heart goes out to all the victims.”

Having a Baby After 35? Know the Risks In Advance

child-and-mom-2356369_1280-1
The trend toward older parenthood looks set to continue, with more women in their 30s having babies now than women in their 20s. Are there more risks involved with pregnancy and birth as maternal age rises? We check out the most recent evidence.

Recent preliminary data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that in 2016, for the first time in three decades, birth rates among women aged 30 to 34 surpassed those among women aged 25 to 29 in the United States.

The average age that women are having their first child is currently at around 28 years of age, up from 26.4 in 2015, and 26.3 in 2014. Experts often focus on average or mean maternal age due to the birth outcomes that are associated with the age of the mother, such as multiple births and congenital disabilities.

Studies report that people may delay parenthood until 35 or older for a number of reasons.

These reasons include women reaching higher education levels, establishing their career, improved methods of contraception, social and cultural shifts that have left women feeling not ready to have children, lack of childcare, low benefit levels, inflexible workplace policies, economic or housing uncertainty, and unemployment.

Another reason why women are going through pregnancy later in life could be down to improved fertility options, such as IVF.

Pregnant women over the age of 35 and having their first baby have been termed as being advanced maternal age (AMA) or older mothers, or they are being referred to as an elderly primigravida or elderly primipara. The terms “advanced age” and “elderly” have negative connotations for someone of just 35 years. Are these terms unfounded, or does being over 35 pose a serious risk for the mother and baby?

Risks of delaying pregnancy until age 35 years or older

Fertility declines in both men and women with age.

Everyone is aware of the ticking of the biological clock, but does your 35th birthday represent a particularly special milestone in biology? Do you hit 35 and suddenly become “high risk” overnight?

Women are delivering healthy babies throughout their 30s and beyond. The age of 35 is simply an age that certain risksbecome more worthy of discussion.

While these risks become slightly more likely after hitting 35 years old, this does not mean that they will have a significant impact on everyone in their mid-thirties and older.

And the list kicks off with our Bellyitch Bumpwatch mom of two to be, Beyonce who cameos prominently on DJ Khaled‘s new hit song “Shining”! Sweet!

Also, some of these songs are just samples but you can hear the entire thing if you sign up for SoundCloud Go! which is just $5 per month. 25+ Chapter Books to Pick From For Your Summer Reader

chapter-book

Summer’s out and one thing that is essential to stave off the Summer brain drain is to keep your little kids reading all Summer long. For rising 3rd to 7th graders, especially, it is important for them to have at least one chapter book they’re reading at all times. That way, during long car trips, times when they’re ‘bored’ or taking a computer or electronics break, they will have a book already on hand to go read.

Hopefully, they can get into the book and enjoy it enough that they look forward to reading it. It took our family a long time to get our son to get into reading chapter books (read how we did it here) but once we did, we realized the key was to get a book that he could relate to with characters close to his age.

My youngest kids attend a school that specializes in classical eduation; e.g, reading classics, studying early civilizations, memorizing prose etc. Here is a list of books that my rising 4th grader’s teacher sent her off with but I added a few extra ones to include diversity in culture and characters for a mix.

Hope you can discover a book for you school aged Summer Learner!

Inside ‘POWER’s Naturi Naughton’s Baby Shower (PHOTOS)

naturi-naughton
Power‘s Naturi Naughton had the most elegant African “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” themed baby shower last month at the Dazzler Hotel in downtown Brooklyn.

naturi3

Naughton and her longtime beau Ben celebrated the impending arrival at a very festive and exquisitely decorated forum which was also star studded and attended by her co POWER star LaLa Anthony, actresses Regina King (American Crime, The Leftovers) and Nicole Beharie (Sleepy Hollow)  and a Grimm star Russell Horsnby and The Game actor Hosea Chanchez.

“I loved my Afro-Centric theme: ‘It Takes a Village to Raise a Child.’ Primrose Couture Events designed the perfect tribal décor with a village vibe, infused with my Caribbean roots,” the petite star told PEOPLE magazine.

naturi-99

The couple also used the occasion to announce the gender of the baby.

“It’s a girl! My man [longtime boyfriend Ben] and I totally predicted a boy at first,” the former 3LW girl band member told the magazine. “I was so sure because I am having such an easy and stress-free pregnancy and I had heard all these stories about how girls steal your beauty and make you really sick when pregnant. Well … so not true for me.”

naturi4

Ha! We know that’s right. At her shower, Naughton looked stunning and glowed in a white lace frock with her loose ringlets adorned in a light floral crown.  Guests noshed on gold covered oreos, macrons, cake pops, and other tasty delectables perfectly decorated in the theme’s colors of gold and green and had fun cutting up in the photo booth.

But as the night went on, the guests let their hair down and can be seen “jumping up” to some soca music from the Caribbean.

And Naughton, who is also a rapper and excellently played rapper Lil Kim in the movie about the Notorious B.I.G. on the big screen, revived her role on the dance floor to a Lil Kim song.

Naughton told PEOPLE she’s “still feeling pretty good,” but is dealing with one issue many women who have been through pregnancy can relate to.

naturi6

“I’m definitely experiencing the swelling of the feet now though, which sucks, but hey, I get a foot rub every night so I’m loving that part!” she joked while adding that her fave indulgent and cravings are Rice Krispies Treats.

“She puts peanut butter in them and they taste like heaven!” Naughton says. “I can tell the baby is loving them too because there’s a happy dance in my belly after my snack time.”

naturi1

Naughton and Ben are not sharing the baby girl’s name until she arrives.

“I think we are 90 percent settled on a beautiful name that we both love,” adding that she and Ben will decide for sure after her birth but other aspects of baby prep are coming along.

“The nursery is coming together, and it’s hard to resist all the adorable baby girl clothes out there, so her wardrobe is in full effect” she said, though the event is not set to arrive until July so she still has a little bit of time to pull together the last minute nesting.

primrose-couture-events-llc-primrosecoutureevents-%e2%80%a2-instagram-photos-and-videos-1

And July cannot get her fast enough as Naughton is already prepping to be a “mommy and me” type of mom.

naturi2

“Dressing alike, mommy-daughter day dates, singing together and teaching her all the important things I learned from my mother,” Naughton told PEOPLE what she is excited about. “I just want to give her a strong foundation, so she can navigate this crazy world by being a strong and beautiful little girl.”

The 13 Body Functions You Mess With When You Get too Stressed

Guest Post

man-1627739_1280

You’re trying to get the kids off to school, you can’t find your cell phone, and you’re sitting in traffic.

Your hypothalamus, a tiny control tower in your brain, decides to send out the order: Send in the stress hormones! These stress hormones are the same ones that trigger your body’s “fight or flight” response. Your heart races, your breath quickens, and your muscles ready for action.

This response was designed to protect your body in an emergency by preparing you to react quickly. But when the stress response keeps firing, day after day, it could put your health at serious risk.

Dr. Sanam Hafeez is a New York City Neuropsychologist who breaks down what stress can do the body.

1. Respiratory System

Stress can make you breathe harder. That’s not a problem for most people, but for those with asthma or a lung disease such as emphysema, getting the oxygen you need to breathe easier can be difficult. And some studies show that an acute stress, such as the death of a loved one — can actually trigger asthma attacks, in which the airway between the nose and the lungs constricts. In addition, stress can cause the rapid breathing or hyperventilation that can bring on a panic attack in someone prone to panic attacks. Working with a psychologist to develop relaxation and breathing strategies can help.

Gastrointestinal

2. Esophagus

When you’re stressed, you may eat much more or much less than you usually do. If you eat more or different foods, or increase your use of alcohol or tobacco, you can experience heartburn or acid reflux. Stress or exhaustion can also increase the severity of heartburn pain.

3. Stomach

When you’re stressed, your brain becomes more alert to sensations in your stomach. Your stomach can react with “butterflies” or even nausea or pain. You may vomit if the stress is severe enough. And, if the stress becomes chronic, you may develop ulcers or severe stomach pain even without ulcers.

4. Bowel

Stress can affect digestion, and what nutrients your intestines absorb. It can also affect how fast food moves through your body. You may find that you have either diarrhea or constipation.

Female Reproductive System

5. Menstruation

Stress may affect menstruation among adolescent girls and women in several ways. For example, high levels of stress may be associated with absent or irregular menstrual cycles, more painful periods and changes in the length of cycles.

6. Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Stress may make premenstrual symptoms worse or more difficult to cope with and pre-menses symptoms may be stressful for many women. These symptoms include cramping, fluid retention and bloating, negative mood (feeling irritable and “blue”) and mood swings.

7. Menopause

As menopause approaches, hormone levels fluctuate rapidly. These changes are associated with anxiety, mood swings and feelings of distress. Thus menopause can be a stressor in and of itself. Some of the physical changes associated with menopause, especially hot flashes, can be difficult to cope with. Furthermore, emotional distress may cause the physical symptoms to be worse. For example, women who are more anxious may experience an increased number of hot flashes and/or more severe or intense hot flashes.

8. Sexual Desire

Women juggle personal, family, professional, financial and a broad range of other demands across their life span. Stress, distraction, fatigue, etc., may reduce sexual desire — especially when women are simultaneously caring for young children or other ill family members, coping with chronic medical problems, feeling depressed, experiencing relationship difficulties or abuse, dealing with work problems, etc.

9. Fat storage

You can clearly correlate stress to weight gain. Part of that link is due to poor eating during stress, but the stress hormone cortisol may also increase the amount of fat tissue your body hangs onto and enlarge the size of fat cells. Higher levels of cortisol have been linked to more deep-abdominal fat—yes, belly fat. Luckily, exercise can help control stress and help keep belly fat under control.

10. Insomnia

Stress can cause hyperarousal, a biological state in which people just don’t feel sleepy.

While major stressful events can cause insomnia that passes once the stress is over, long-term exposure to chronic stress can also disrupt sleep and contribute to sleep disorders.

What to do? Focus on sleep hygiene (making your surroundings conducive to a good night’s rest) and try yoga or another stress-busting activity during the day.

11.  Headaches

“Fight or flight” chemicals like adrenaline (epinephrine) and cortisol can cause vascular changes that leave you with a tension headache or migraine, either during the stress or in the “let-down” period afterwards. Stress also makes your muscles tense, which can make the pain of a migraine worse. Beyond treating the headache itself, focus on headache-proofing your home, diet, and lifestyle in general.

12. Memory

Too much of the stress hormone cortisol can interfere with the brain’s ability to form new memories. During acute stress, the hormone also interferes with neurotransmitters, the chemicals that brain cells use to communicate with each other. That can make it hard to think straight or retrieve memories. While it’s tough to limit stress in our hectic lives, some experts recommend trying meditation, among other solutions.

13. Blood sugar

Stress is known to raise blood sugar, and if you already have type 2 diabetes you may find that your blood sugar is higher when you are under stress. Changing what you eat, exercising more, or adjusting medication can help to keep it under control. One study of obese black women without diabetes found that those who produced more stress-related epinephrine when asked to recall stressful life events had higher fasting glucose and bigger blood sugar spikes than those with lower epinephrine, suggesting it might raise your risk for getting diabetes too.

More! More! Actress Jaime Pressly is Expecting Twin Boys!

pressly-hamzi

Once upon a time, adopting a foreign baby of color from overseas was the celebrity trend.

These days it looks as if all of them are giving birth to twins.

Today, My Name is Earl alum Jaime Pressly announced that she is expecting twin boys with her boyfriend Hamzi Hijazi and without undergoing IVF treatment or anything, she said.

The Moms star said she had almost given up on her dreams of having three children (she is mom to 10-year old son Dezi James with ex Eric Cubiche), given her age (she is 39) and all.

“I’ve always wanted three kids and the older I’m getting, I’m like, ‘Okay, maybe just one more would be nice,’” she told PEOPLE magazine. “I was getting a little sad, but it was like, ‘We’ll give you two in one. You don’t have to do another pregnancy.’”

It was unexpected but obviously welcome surprise especially given that she had been trying to get pregnant for some time, and she assumed she’d never have time to have three children.

How to Give Birth to Twins

“Twins don’t run on either side of our families so we were completely shocked,” she told People. “This wasn’t IVF or anything like that. It was just a shock, and I’m like, ‘Doctor, that’s impossible!’”

Pressly said her son is most excited because he has been asking for a sibling since he was in Kindergarten.

“He’s very patient and sweet and gentle and is going to be the best little babysitter ever,” Pressly added. “He’s constantly kissing my belly.”

Although the mom has been through pregnancy before, she believes this pregnancy is going to be “completely different.”

This week, Amal and George Clooney welcomed a pair of boy and girl twins, Ella and Alexander and Beyonce and Jay Z are expecting their twin arrivals soon as well.

Also, after taking this course, she promises you will:
  • Understand how to create a flawless base
  • Take your makeup quickly from day to evening to night
  • Fit different makeup options into a limited time frame
  • Learn which bargain products beat the designer ones
  • Pick up tips and tricks for time saving and avoiding makeup mistakes
  • Tailor complex techniques (like contouring and false lashes) to a realistic lifestyle

It has some decent reviews too. Here is one:

“I’ve learned how to do makeup through applying it without any knowledge. I always wore face makeup, obviously the shades were always different than my skin tone, eyeshadow and mascara. I just recently started using highlighter, bronzer, lipstick and false lashes. I always found myself applying the concealer just onto of my bags, this course taught me how to apply it under the eye in triangle form to create the better look. I used the new Tarte Duo highlighter and bronzer that are amazing. You can use just a little and it will go a long way ($16). I also like the add on of the brushes and how to clean them. This course was very helpful!” – Jennie Breen

And apparently, it’s not coming from a long time expert either but someone who learned from trial and error and perfected it. Interesting…

“I’m not a professional makeup artist – I am a normal woman just like you, and I need a makeup routine that will fit in with my busy lifestyle,” the instructor writes. “I am passionate about makeup, getting bargains, and have spent years crawling YouTube and blogs for the best recommendations.
