Avoid These 11 Things While Pregnant

pregnant

There aren’t many hard and fast rules about what not to do during your pregnancy, beyond abstaining from alcohol and drugs, of course. For the most part, you can continue with most of your pre pregnancy life.

  1. Don’t Eat These Foods

But because the health and safety of your growing baby is essential, here’s a list of 11 things not to do while pregnant.

The biggest list of don’ts for pregnant women involves food.

During your pregnancy, you should avoid:

  • Raw meat and shellfish: Uncooked seafood (we’re looking at you, sushi), including oysters, mussels, and clams. Also avoid rare or undercooked beef and poultry. These can be contaminated with toxoplasmosis or salmonella.
  • Deli meat: Deli meats can be contaminated with listeria, bacteria that can cross the placenta and infect your developing baby. An infection in utero could lead to blood poisoning and could be life-threatening for your baby.
  • Fish with high levels of mercury: That includes fish such as shark, king mackerel, swordfish, and tilefish. Wondering about tuna? In general, canned, chunk light tuna has lower levels of mercury, but it’s still smart to eat it sparingly.
  • Smoked seafood: Avoid lox, kippered fish, jerky, or nova style salmon. There’s a risk that this refrigerated, smoked seafood could be contaminated with listeria. Smoked seafood that’s shelf-safe or canned, however, is probably fine.
  • Raw eggs: This includes foods that contain raw eggs, so be wary of homemade Caesar dressings, Hollandaise sauces, mayonnaise, and certain custards. Raw eggs can pose a risk of salmonella.
  • Soft cheeses: Some imported soft cheeses can have listeria, so steer clear of soft cheeses like Roquefort, feta, Gorgonzola, Camembert, and Brie. Mexican cheeses such as queso blanco and queso fresco should also be avoided, unless they’re made from pasteurized milk.
  • Unpasteurized dairy: These products could contain listeria.

It seems extensive, but there are still plenty of great nutrition choices during your pregnancy. While it’s always important to eat a balanced diet, pregnancy is an especially critical time. In your daily mail plan, try to incorporate:

  • lean proteins
  • healthy fats
  • lots of fresh vegetables and fruits
  • water

NYFW: Ways to Wear White After Labor Day

labor day

There is this old fashioned rule of style that says you cannot wear white after Labor Day! If you are a stickler for tradition, you may adhere to that axiom. If you would like to dare to teeter on the edge of breaking the norm, you can incorporate White in your wardrobe by carrying a white tote, wearing a white fall or winter jacket or shawl, or outfitting yourself in bold white jewelry or a crisp white button down collar shirt to work.

But if you are cool about bucking conventional wisdom, you can go brave and wear white any which way you want!

Grey’s Anatomy: The TV Cast With Most Adopted Kids

grey's cast

Of all the shows on television, we think the cast of Grey’s Anatomy has some of the most aware and generous parents who have opened up their hearts and homes to many children without parents or proper homes.  Several members of  Grey’s family are also wonderful about raising children of different background and parentage.

While we cannot say definitely if its cast and alums have adopted the most children, but we do know they’re up there in numbers.

For example, currently, we anxiously await the birth of Grey’s alum Katherine Heigl‘s first child. Meanwhile, she and her husband are parenting two beautiful adopted girls, Naleigh from South Korea (adopted in 2009) and Adalaide Marie Hope (adopted in 2012), a mixed-race child from a woman in Louisiana.

Heigl has an adopted sister, Meg, who was born in Korea.

“Josh and I started talking about [adoption] before we were even engaged,”  US Weekly quotes the Knocked Up  star telling Scholastic Parent & Child back in February. “[M]y parents adopted [Meg] three years before I was born. I wanted my own family to resemble the one I came from, so I always knew I wanted to adopt from Korea.”
True to form, Heigl’s soon-to-be-born son will have a similar experience of having older adopted siblings.
Not an adoptive parent, but her former Grey’s co-star Ellen Pompeo is also doing a wonderful job of raising her children of different race.

Pompeo is quoted recently stating that she surrounds her bi-racial daughters with images of empowered African American women.

Pompeo and her husband Chris Ivery are parents to daughters Stella, born September 2009, and Sienna May, born October 2014 via surrogate.

“My daughters are black so it’s very important to me that they see a lot of images of beautiful, powerful, strong black women,” Ellen shares. “Every time there is a black woman on a magazine cover, whether it is Kerry Washington or whoever it is, I make sure that magazine is in my house and on my table. For me, that’s super important.”

It’s also important for the girls to see the Obamas n the spotlight, she relayed.

“I feel really fortunate that they are growing up in a time [in which] the first president my daughter knows is Barack Obama,” Ellen said. “That’s an incredible gift.”

Um doesn’t Chris look a little low key like President Barack Obama tho?

Show producer and writer Shonda Rhimes also has adopted several children. She is solo-parenting and raising two adopted daughters on her own, Harper, Emerson and Beckett (whom she welcomed via a gestational surrogate) ages 13, 3 and 2, respectively.

Bravo!

4 Things to Avoid Doing In Front of Your Children

tech

From the moment babies are born, they figuratively act as little sponges, taking in everything going on around them. Although you understandably want to be a good role model to your children, you might inadvertently take part in some less-than-desirable activities — at least from time to time.

To set the best example possible from the moment your kids enter this world, check out the following four, everyday habits you may want to consider stopping:

1. Addiction to Technology

From the time they are toddlers, young kids have an amazing knack for figuring out and using all types of tech devices, including your smartphone. While you probably don’t want your kids to be glued to a screen for hours at a time, you might want to look at your own tech usage and be sure you are also following healthy habits. As Pop Sugar notes, if you are constantly on your smartphone texting, checking Facebook and crushing candies, it will be difficult to tell your kids they cannot share in these same joys. Try to limit your screen time, and whatever you do, resist the urge to text or check emails while driving.

2. Being a Lead Foot

If you have a tendency to put the proverbial pedal to the metal, or if you are known to cut people off or take other risks on the road, becoming a parent is the perfect excuse to stop these bad-driving habits. In addition to wanting to keep your precious cargo as safe as possible, these small children will quickly grow up to be teen drivers — and you don’t want them emulating your speed demon ways. To help you become a better and safer driver, take some time to review the latest safe-driving practices and local traffic laws at a website like driving-tests.org. The free online resource features plenty of great information to help you take the lead out of your right foot.

3. Doing Everything for Everyone

Of course, when your children are babies, you will definitely need to take care of all their needs. But as soon as they are able to start helping out around the house, encourage them to take on some small jobs and responsibilities. As Parent Herald notes, doing everything for your kids is a bad habit that can ultimately result in pampered children, who expect you to do everything under the sun. Even toddlers can help put blocks back in a basket, while preschoolers can help collect laundry or put away the clean forks and spoons from the dishwasher.

4. Swearing Like a Sailor

Most parents let some juicy words pop out of their mouths from time to time — like when you are carrying a big load of laundry and slam your pinky toe into the door jamb. Ouch! If you find yourself swearing on a daily basis, or merely adding salty words into conversation with friends or adult family members, be aware your toddler is listening intently and will probably repeat these words. Unless you want your darling preschooler to ask aunt Marian “How the &%$#! is it going?” you might want to rein in your bad language as soon as possible.

Trending: Snooki Drops ‘Young Mommy’ Rap Video about Motherhood

snooki rap video

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi proved again that she has an excellent sense of humor about her past and current new life as a devoted wife and mom. She released a humorous music video for a song called “Young Mommy“. I suppose it is a play off of popular rappers like Young Jeezy, Young Buc etc.

The rap video features her kids, husband, tiny ballerinas and some of her Jersey Shore co-stars. It’s colorful and playful.

The lyrics are also funny and relatable to moms:

Leh we go! Drop it low,” the rap starts.

I used to be so wild. I was the life of the party.

Now I’m all grown up so now they call me mommy

Late night getting reckless with J.Ross and me and Roni

All these dudes were hopeless but then I met Gianni

I’m a mommy with attitude.

No time for a hater cause they too rude.

Now I got me  my own series on YouTube and I’m spending these check’s on baby food.

Fit life. My body changin’,

At the house. Potty trainin’

Two kids. Not complaining.

Young wife. Lookin’ dangerous.

It’s all love because I’m a proud mommy.

Shout out my son and daughter, Lorenzo and Giavanna.”

snooki video

It’s all fun and she isn’t trying to be a recording artist, she muses.

Funky auto tuned interludes in the song include humming of “Stretchmarks”… “Breastfeeding…breastfeeding”

No she isn’t expecting to win a Grammy for the song but she did bring a lot of attention to her channel which features DIY, tips and candid convos with her friends on a variety of topics.

In fact, in the intro to the video on her YouTube channel, she writes, “don’t take it too seriously—it’s just meant to be fun and funny, so I hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you think in the comments below—and don’t forget to check out the behind the scenes video on my channel!”

Summer Hair: Ombre Styling and Maintenance Tips

bellyitchblog.com ombre hair

Ombre hair is still a go-to hair style for the summer.  The hair coloring style trend, which features gradually lightened hair from root to tip, has been seen on many celebs, on runways and in fashion mags.

Our partners at Glamazon have tips on how to maintenance Ombre hair if you dare go this  fun, yet slightly high-maintenance, route this Spring or Summer:
While ombre hair isn’t as high maintenance or as tough on your roots as dying all of your hair a single hue, you still need to treat your tresses with TLC. Here are a few Do’s and Don’ts to help you keep your ombre hair looking fab at all times.
Do…Deep Condition and Keep Hair Moisturized
Just because all of your hair wasn’t dyed, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take heed to the fact that a portion of your hair has been processed and needs care. Since ombre hair usually entails going from dark to light, the use of bleach or other chemicals will probably be used. You should deep condition hair at least once a week to keep the color looking fresh and to keep hair shiny and strong. Breakage is definitely no bueno!

Do…Use the right product
You still need to use products that are for color-treated hair with the ombre look. Usually it’s best to use a sulfate-free product that says it’s for color-treated hair. Regular products can be too harsh and strip the hair of essential oils, leaving it brittle and dry.

Do…Remember That Dirty Hair Is Good… For Coloring
Although, it could be safer and yield better results by consulting a professional, if you’re a DIY beauty girl (I absolutely am), try not to wash your hair directly before coloring it. Our scalp produces natural oils that can actually help protect it from damage.

Don’t…be lazy
Just because you won’t have to touch up your roots as often, you do get a green light to just let your hair go. You still need to have regular touch-ups (depending on the permanency of the color it’s essential to get a touch-up every 5-6 months). It’s not haute to have scraggly, fried ends with unkempt dark roots.
Don’t…forget the color change has to be gradual.
Make sure the jump from a dark hue to a lighter shade isn’t too abrupt (like Ciara‘s). The way Keke Palmer‘s dark locks flow into a lighter hue is perfect.

Chelsea Clinton Baited to Criticize her Friend Ivanka Trump’s Dad; She Snatched it

chelsea and ivanka

Remember when we posted about how our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump were still good friends despite the fact that their respective parents were going against each other head to head for the job of US President?

Well, it looks like things may start to get personal.

During a Facebook Live event on Tuesday, July 25, Glamour Editor in Chief Cindi Leiv pinned Chelsea down on her friendship with Ivanka and tested it a bit, egging her on to criticize Ivanka’s dad Donald Trump, CBS News reports.

“So you and Ivanka are friendly, I know,” Leiv asked. “if you got to ask her a question about how her father would do that, what would it be?”

Chelsea had a quick answer! “It would be that question: ‘How would your father do that?'”

“Given it’s not something that he has spoken about, there are no policies on any of those fronts that you just mentioned on his website — not last week, not this week,” she said. “So I think the ‘how’ question is super important. In politics as it is in life.”

“So it really matters to me that my mom in this election consistently has told you how she is going to do everything,” Clinton continued. “Whether that’s on gun control or protecting a woman’s right to choose or any of the things we’ve talked about. She also tells you how she’s going to pay for it.”

“It’s something I hope would matter to that traditional Republican voter,” the former first daughter said, before adding that Trump’s plans could add trillions of dollars to the national debt. “Social progress should also come with social responsibility and fiscal responsibility.”

Game on!

Last week, Ivanka gave an amazing speech that trumpeted the importance of women’s rights and options. She didn’t announce that she was a Republican and a lot of Democrats and Independents actually resonated and agreed with Ivanka. Some asked why she wasn’t the one running for President instead of her dad.

Watch Ivanka’s powerful and impassioned speech, the best of the convention, in our opinion, here.

Actually, couldn’t you see an Ivanka Trump v. Chelsea Clinton run in the future?
