Winter evening maternity wear styling guide

Will you be heading out to a formal or evening event, cocktail party or outing this weekend? Consider these celebrity-inspired tips for looking your best.
The first thing you need to consider is your undergarment. That is the secret to all those pregnant celebs you see on the red carpet looking so well cinched and put together. Maternity spanks, tights, bras and undergarment should provide ample coverage and support.
Your best option is to go with a seamless dress. You don’t need too much boning digging into your skin and making you uncomfortable. They flatter you more. As do empire waist dressed and A-line dresses that fall over your bump.
If you are comfortable showing your leg a sheath dress with a sash or belt tied above the breast bone rocks. If you are not, pick an floor length dress to elongate your frame. Petite women should consider high-neck bodices to lengthen the stature.
Mary Jane, sensible pumps and wedges or kitty heels are best for staying safe yet fashionable. Accentuate the look with feminine jewelry, scarves, chandelier or hoop earrings.
Stay warm and have a great time, preginistas! Here are some styling options from our style partners at Shopstyle.

Celeb moms at 2015 People’s Choice Awards Red Carpet and Show

Tonight, not only did a Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum  co-host the People’s Choice Awards LIVE from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California, but several were up for awards and took home statutes at the show controlled by viewers.
Bumpwatch alum Anna Farris and her Moms CBS co-star Allison Janney hosted the event which had our past featured moms up against one another. Scarlett Johansson, Kerry Washington, Zoe Saldana, Tina Fey, Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, Emily Deschanel, Tea Leoni, Angelina Jolie, Mayim Bialik, Hayden Panattiere, Alyssa Milano, Kate Winslet, Carrie Underwood, Hillary Shelton’s “Lady Antebellum” and Ellen Pompeo were all up for awards in various categories. Lady Antebellum, Underwood and Pompeo won in their categories. While projects and shows starring Winslet (Divergent), Jolie (Maleficent) and Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) won as well.  See winners list here

Anna Farris looked sultry in a Juan Carlos Obando top and fishtail skirt, strappy Jimmy Choo heels, accented with Irene Neuwirth earrings and a Graziela Gems ring.
Anna Farris and Allison Janney, co star of the CBS show Moms coordinated well while hosting the show. Love the matching white pant suit. Very “Twins”-ish! ha!

Hillary Scott was looking fab and showing off leg in a Yigal Azrouel dress, worn with shoes by Ralph Lauren  and a Jimmy Choo purse. Her Lady Antebellum bandmates Dave Haywood  and Charles Kelley looked dapper as well, though Kelley explained on the red carpet to Giuliana Rancic that he had ripped his pants in the inseam on the car ride to the show. oops!

Hot Pink was the color Kristen Bell  chose to wear while making her first public appearance since giving birth to daughter Delta this past December. She was rocking an interesting layered  Monique Lhullier dress with silver  Christian Louboutin pumps and accented with  Neil Lane jewelry, and a Jimmy Choo clutch.

I personally loved Giulana Rancic in a mint green Tony Ward dress which gave me a retro 50’s feel and the hair is perfect to match.

Best Celebrity maternity style of 2014

We’re at the end of another fab year at Bellyitch Blog. The team got together and voted on who the top ten most fashionable pregnant American celebrities were in 2014. Here they are:

1.  Blake Lively
First time mom-to-be actress Blake Lively is doing an excellent job being playful with colors, textures and accessories. She mixes cute capes and necklaces and has perfect flowing hair. The Gossip Girl alum totally changed the maternity fashion game with her effervescent and seemingly effortless style. We are sure there is a stylist somewhere who deserves credit too. We think.

 2. Stacy Keibler
Stacy Keibler channeled BoHo Chic this first pregnancy by accenting her various casual looks with cute fedoras gladiator sandals and playful fringe purses. When going out and about, the former WWE wrestler sticks with a black palette but kept it playful with color. Her debut bump in a black cut out dress kept the gossip and fashion blogs talking and catapulted her to the top of the bump watch list this past summer.
3. Zoe Saldana

Currently pregnant with twins, Zoe Saldana carried off her best looks early in her pregnancy rocking a super cute black shirt dresses, slip dresses and bump hugging pencil-skirt length dresses while attending fashion week shows and promoting her various projects. We loved her styled look for the cover of Elle the best because it was so unexpectedly sexy and wild.
4. Carrie Underwood
Country singer Carrie Underwood was one of the hardest working pregnant celebrities this year. The American Idol winning singer-actress could be found in baby doll dresses, Grecian gowns, and mini dresses while hosting award shows, and performing at major concert events all across the country.
5. Ciara
Ciara introduced us to her maternity style in a custom 20s style pin-striped suit this summer. She kept her fans and followers following her on Instagram on their toes with her cute ensembles and even cuter dance moves and mini-IG fashion shoots. There was no stopping this singer-songwriter who welcomed son Future recently and promptly dropped the weight and rocked Paris Fashion week.
 6.  Kelly Rowland
Singer  and award-winning chart-topper Kelly Rowland kept it comfy in the bump-hugging jersey maxi-midi dresses she sported much this pregnancy. She also wasn’t afraid to experiment and change up her hairstyle often all pregnancy long going with a bold and different halo braid at the Grammy awards in Los Angeles.
7. Kourtney Kardashian
The eldest sister in the Kardashian klan, Kourtney, mixed it up a bunch this third pregnancy. She was trendy in overalls early in her pregnancy, played up stripes with a bold yellow shoppers bag by late second trimester. She showed lots of leg in mini mini dresses but also wore ringlets and maxi dresses at other times. It was all unexpected and no set pattern with Kourt.
8. Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington stayed low-profile with her pregnancy but once the word was out, we got to see her all award-season long, she sported different designers’ custom looks and never stopped mixing it up. She even worked in the crop top trend from last spring into her maternity red-carpet wardrobe. Yass, Kerry!
9. Molly Sims
Former model Molly Sims  has been having the best styled year on red carpets this second pregnancy. From cropped and fishtails to glam and beaded, Sims has been a head turner these days. It’s definitely a step up or in a different direction than first round. And we also like how she has been very versatile with her hair styles doing Hollywood waves, sleek and straight and 80s flips at different events. Werk.
10. Savannah Guthrie
This TV journalist Savannah Guthrie bumped it up daily on TODAY and kept a big bright smile as an accessory . Although, she made knee-length dresses with side scrunching a staple, we love how she mixed it up with color, accent collars and necklaces, and threw in denim and other fabrics in her look every now and again. She was definitely a style maven for the professional preggers mama at the office.
Honorable Mention: Yandy Smith
We love any celebrity, pregnant or not, who experiments much with color and isn’t afraid to go with hot pink at one event then flip the switch and go with cobalt blue at another and that’s why we couldn’t leave out Love and Hip Hop‘s Yandy Smith to rep the reality TV show genre along with Kourt.  This music industry manager and reality TV star also kept her hair game on point, sporting luscious long ringlets at promotional events for her various projects.

I found the perfect New Year’s Eve dress for a pregnant woman

I spotted this marvelous Isabella Oliver  Ashwell maternity dress float across my radar and thought how perfect it would be for a New Year’s eve party for a pregnant woman. The halter criss cross bodice looks as if it would accommodate a woman with ample bossoms, fuller because she is pregnant. Also, a long sleeve style is ideal for women who are not that comfortable with having her arms exposed as many evening dresses are either strapless or come with spaghetti straps or cap sleeves.

Red is a perfect color for winter and the holidays and even if one isn’t comfortable with mini dresses and having their legs exposed, this dress can be worn with wedge boots to limit the amount of legs shown and exposed.

I do think it’s the perfect New Year’s eve dress for a pregnant woman. Currently, it’s down to $101 from the original $169. And though it comes in a brown for those who are fearful of bright colors, I challenge you to go brave and the the year on a boom and get the red! There’s still time to order this dress or hunt for  similar style.

Here are some alternatives I also spotted while surfing my Shopstyle partner’s website recently.

6 Fashion Blogger Must-Haves: My Blogger’s Holiday Wish List (Pt2)

Here is part two to my Blogger’s wishlist dedicated to the fashion blogger.
Because Bellyitch is part celebrity, part fashion, part parenting blog, as the founder and editor-in-chief of this blog, I get to put on different hats on various posts.
So from the perspectives of a fashion blogger, I know that it is hard for family and friends to figure out what I may like as they may be unsure of my taste and preference. For me and any other fashion blogger in your life, it’s probably a good idea to go with accessories!
Here are my top 6 suggestions of what would or could be on a fashion blogger’s wish list or a good gift idea for them or any woman who enjoys visiting fashion blogs.
1. COSTUME JEWELRY
Personally, I enjoy wearing chunky bracelets, big bold statement necklaces and unique bright and eye-catching rings or mini-rings, and other eclectic pieces of jewelry. They are conversation items and can individualize any look. Having a gift of a new piece would be appreciated because additional pieces can be mixed and matched with jewelry already in the wardrobe. Also, costume jewelry is usually cheaper and also more likely to get lost, broken or dull quicker and thus need replacement more frequently than fine jewelry. This reason is also why it’s always a welcome gift.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

2. SCARVES
A girl can never have too many scarves! They come in all sorts of materials, patterns and styles and can accent any look. Worn like a pashmina, a scarf can dress up a casual dress. Wrapped around the neck in an infinity loop and it adds a splash of color to a mono-chromatic dress. Lighter-weight ones work in Spring and Summer and heavier ones can keep you warm in cooler weather or worn on the head or double as a blanket on an overnight flight.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

3. JOURNALS
I am a compulsive list-maker and have dozens of hard cover journals filled with notes, budget calculations, and lists. I don’t throw mine away either as I love to be able to look back and see where I was before and what items I’ve been able to check off my lists. I love getting them with fun colors or sayings on the cover and in a portable size so I can carry them everywhere I go, refer to them when needed or use them to jot down ideas for blog posts while waiting for the kids to rehearse or while at the dentist waiting room, for example. I carry my journals everywhere with me!
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

4. SCENTED CANDLES
I really enjoy fragrant aromas like eucalyptus, mint, lavender not just because they make your home, purse or body spell nice but because they have therapeutic effect as well. Depending on the scent, aromatherapy candles can lift the mood, energize or calm. I love burning scented candles burn during my blogging work day.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

5. SMART PHONE COVER
As a blogger, I am constantly with my smart phone in my hand, social media networking past posts, capturing images for future blog posts, sharing finds to my social media network, communicating with other writers or staff members and occasionally, fielding real telephone calls. It is an extension of me and therefore also a fashion accessory and conversation piece. Like this cassette tape iphone cover (above) always get people talking because many cannot remember the last time they saw a cassette tape and will ask me what I’m doing with one, not knowing it is just a cover.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

6. PERFUME
Like I said, aromas are my thing, and like journals, a girl can never have too many bottles of perfume either. When you find a scent that works and sticks, get it and use that as your staple, but I love to also mix it up. Jessica McClintock works very well with my body chemistry and I always get compliments on it when I wear it. People cannot help but stop and tell me how good I smell and ask about the scent. I prefer sweeter scents like Versace‘s Red Jeans and Jean Paul Gaultier‘s Classique are also part of my go-to scents.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);
