I Get Why Kim Kardashian-West Didn’t Invite Her Surrogate to Her Baby Shower

Here I am defending Kim Kardashian-West critics again. It has literally become a pastime for me

This time, the KKW Beauty purveyor is being shamed for not inviting her surrogate to her lavish Baby Celebration last week.

During an appearance on the TV talk show The Real, the reality TV star explained her decision to Loni Love.

“I introduced her to my family earlier that day, and I just thought … I don’t know, it was a weird decision to have to make,” Kardashian admitted. “Of course I would have wanted her to be there, and be a part of it, but I hadn’t really gone that far in explaining [the surrogacy] to my kids yet. So I have to figure that out first before they really see, and then if we’re celebrating, you know, her … I just wanted to celebrate the baby,” she continued. “I think I have to explain it to my kids first, and figure out how I’m going to explain it to them.” So, that’s that: it’s all about the kids.”

I get it.

A lot of people in the general public are quite clueless on pregnancy. Surrogacy is very complicated. It is even banned in several countries and some states have very strict rules.

Besides that, similar to adoption, there is a lot of emotional turmoil and angst associated with it. While the surrogate and the parents can become close and have a bond, there is always that fear that the surrogate could develop too much of a bond to the baby she is carrying and resent the parents.

That is what happens in adoption and why birth moms often are not given a chance to hold right after delivery the baby they, pre-birth, have decided to give up for adoption.

When you add young children in the mix, including those who have memories of a previous pregnancy and seeing mommy with a big tummy like her daughter North did with son Saint, I get it.

Kim Kardashian-West: Kanye Helped Me Embrace My Pregnancy Curves

In a candid blog post recently, Kim Kardashian West opened up about embracing her curves during her pregnancy and credits her husband Kanye West for boosting her confidence. As ET summarizes:

“During my first pregnancy, I just wanted to cover up,” she writes. “I wasn’t used to how being pregnant made me feel, and I honestly had a hard time being comfortable with it. The second time around, it was easier for me to embrace the changes. I loved finding looks that showed off my pregnancy curves.”

Kim acknowledges that shedding 70 pounds after giving birth to Saint took plenty of hard work and dedication.

“After I had Saint, I decided to set goals for myself. I was motivated, but it was tough!” she says. “It isn’t easy to just bounce back. I was so jealous of women who had these cute little baby bellies and would gain 25 pounds — and then, a few weeks after giving birth, somehow look exactly like they did before they were pregnant, lol. That’s not me.”

She did have one person firmly in her corner — her husband, Kanye West.

“A big source of my confidence is my husband,” Kim shares. “I’m my own biggest critic, and Kanye is my biggest supporter. He always encourages me, and makes me feel confident about owning all my curves and showing them off.”

Above all, the mother of two strives to set a good example for North.

“As North gets older, she’ll start to be more aware of herself and her body,” she notes. “Her attitude toward her body is directly related to my own, so it’s my responsibility to make sure she understands that positive body image comes from having a healthy self-esteem.”
