The two of them once famously attended back to back awards shows in 2015, BET and MTV Music, hand in hand but we noticed during the 2017 BET Awards, held this past Sunday nigh at the Microsoft Center in Los Angeles, California, the two came with other people.
Who are these two?
Acupuncture has long been suggested as a means for cure or respond to infertility, in particular PCOS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, but a new study suggests that it does not improve chances of having a baby.
In a collaboration between the researchers in China, the United States and Europe, researchers found that acupuncture is ineffective in improving live birth rate in women with, or PCOS, contrary to prevailing wisdom and common practice.
PCOS is the most common form of infertility connected to a lack of ovulation, and affects up to 10 percent of women of reproductive age. Symptoms of PCOS, in addition to the absence of ovulation, can include irregular menstruation; high levels of androgens, a type of hormone; and ovarian cysts.
In China and increasingly around the world, acupuncture, a fundamental part of Chinese medicine, is thought to induce ovulation and in turn improve live birth rate—but no substantive research has yet proved its effectiveness.
The first-line treatment to induce ovulation in women with PCOS is clomiphene. Commonly known by its brand name Clomid, it is a safe and inexpensive medicine that appears on the World Health Organization’s Model List of Essential Medicines.
However, because the drug has a high failure rate, 23.4 percent, researchers are seeking a secondary treatment to modify and improve its performance.
But acupuncture is not an effective option for co-treatment with clomiphene or alone, the study finds.
This is a landmark randomized clinical trial conducted to evaluate Chinese and Western medicine in infertility treatment according to the international standards and under formal advisory of international experts,” said a lead researcher Heping Zhang, Ph.D., Susan Dwight Bliss Professor of Biostatistics at Yale School of Public Health.
In the multicenter trial, 1,000 women in China diagnosed with PCOS were administered acupuncture either in combination with clomiphene or with a placebo. The results showed that while the live birth rate was significantly higher in women who received clomiphene compared to those who received the placebo (28.7 percent versus 15.4 percent), there was little difference in the birth rate between women who received acupuncture as an active agent, or as a control (21.8 percent versus 22.4 percent).
There was also no interaction between clomiphene and acupuncture that led to a higher birth rate.

I’m not jealous that the same media conglomerate that owns Reddit, (Conde Naste) owns Vanity Fair and the latter got an exclusive feature on Serena Williams and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian‘s love story.
I’m not annoyed that the author, Buzz Bissinger, goes a little bit overboard to ram it down our throats that the article is a “love story.” I think he mentioned the phrase “love story” like 50 times!
I’m not peeved that the wonderfully talented and famed photographer Anne Lebowitz was bestowed the honor of doing Williams’ maternity shoot even as we were pumping up our pick in another post.
I am not even fermuxed that the author tried to pump up Columbia, Maryland, where Alexis was raised as some famous planned community when as a native Marylander, I know it’s not that big a deal but hey, we gotta hype him up too.
I am not miffed that the magazine chose to have her do yet another take of Demi Moore’s iconic cover because, by this point, it has been overdone to the point that it is a cliche and I think Serena deserves more, more authenticity and more uniqueness and something more fitting.
ok. I lied. Maybe I am all those things. Jealous. Annoyed. Peeved. Fermuxed. Miffed.
Well, you don’t have to let my grudge stop you from heading over to Vanity Fair and checking out.
You will learn that the Tennis champ took a pregnancy test to prove a friend wrong and that her vomiting, fatigue and swollen breast meant nothing. Nothing at all.
You’ll discover that Williams took several more after and eventually, presented them all in a brown bag to Ohanian a day before the start of the Australian Open (which she won) and you’ll see Ohanian described as a science geek, an Ivy League Law school dropout, who didn’t watch one tennis match before dating Williams.
You’ll get the context of my fave part:
The day of his birthday, April 24, Alexis went to the Carousel Restaurant in Little Armenia in Los Angeles with his grandparents. Serena and he FaceTimed. She was calling to say happy birthday, which might not sound like a big deal but was because she is a Jehovah’s Witness and part of the religion is not to celebrate birthdays. She was doing something she normally would not do, reaching beyond, telling him on the phone how wonderful their lives together had been.
Alexis knew then he wanted to marry her, not simply out of happiness or compatibility. She was helping him become the best version of himself because of her own work ethic and focus, with millions watching and the expectation of the public that she should win every time, what Serena herself described as carrying “three pyramids” on her shoulder. He thought he worked hard—it is part of the romance of high tech that everyone works 18 hours a day and then curls up under the desk for a few hours’ sleep with their laptop as teddy bear and pacifier—but he realized it was nothing compared with Serena.
“I felt like a door had been opened to a person who made me want to be my best self. . . . I find myself just wanting to be better by simply being around her because of the standard she holds.”
If you’re a fan of Williams or unlikely pairings or love stories, you might very well enjoy the treatment and I think for sure, you will love all the great tales and stories within.
I do appreciate all the insights from the piece even if I got issues on a bunch of other aspects of it.

Beyonce’s twins, reportedly named Shawn and Bea (or not), have been moved home to a $400,000 a month rental home in Malibu, California, a source close to E! News reports.
The babies had an extended stay in the hospital because they were born slightly early and had a condition called “jaundice” requiring them to spend time under photolight theraphy, according to sources close to the couple, TMZ reports.
Jaundice occurs because your baby’s body has more bilirubin than it can get rid of. Bilirubin is a yellow substance that’s made when the body breaks down old red blood cells. It leaves the body through urine and stool. When you’re pregnant, your body removes bilirubin from your baby through the placenta.
Phototherapy is the most common treatment for reducing high bilirubin levels that cause jaundice in anewborn. In the standard form of phototherapy, your baby lies in a bassinet or enclosed plastic crib (incubator) and is exposed to a type of fluorescent light that is absorbed by your baby’s skin.
The Daily Mail first reported about the mansion, and claimed the family, which includes hubby Jay Z and big sis Blue Ivy, will stay there for the remainder of the summer.
The property, which features 6.3 acre grounds, features a rose garden, tennis court, pool house and viewing deck. The property, which is referred to as La Villa Contenta, is currently on the market for $54.5 million. According to The Daily Mail, Tina Knowles Lawson was spotted visiting the compound on Sunday.

Championship middle distance runner Alysia Montano isn’t letting pregnancy get in the way of her drive to compete.
The athlete ran in the 800 meter distance race at the US Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Sacramento this past weekend whilst 5-months pregnant.
The Olympic athlete said she was inspired after watching Wonder Woman.
“When I found out Gal Gadot filmed half the movie five-months pregnant, I said, ‘I for sure am signing up for USA nationals‘,” she said.
Physicians recommend that pregnant women continue with their regular workout regimens if they feel comfortable doing so, and if they keep their heart rate at a certain level.
Montano has been getting a lot of attention again. She recently celebrated her decision on her Instagram with photos of her journey.
“My mission as a mother, as a daughter, as a sister, as a friend, and as a human is to always fight for good and the empowerment of others.” she captioned the photo. “I hope that one day my children can look at the world through a lens filled with kindness, compassion, hope, empowerment and purpose. I hope when my children think of me in their pursuits they might see me as an example of strength and not only think “Strong like Mom”, but perhaps they may see their abilities and think “Stronger THAN Mom”. #motivationmonday#LetsDoThisForTheseBabies”
But this is not the first time Montano has competed while pregnant so this is not a big stretch for her.
In 2014, Montana shocked, awed and inspired many when she competed then while 8 months pregnant. She ended up finishing just 35 seconds shy of her personal record while 34 weeks pregnant with her first child.
Everyone in the stand rose to their feet watching her compete.
“This is what it looks like to be a professional athlete as a woman and still continuing on in your career (while starting a family),” she said at the time.”I wanted to celebrate where I’m at, celebrate: oh my gosh, I made it 34 weeks and I’ve been able to stay fit and healthy and have an uncomplicated pregnancy.”
She recalls all the accolades.
“(In 2014) women let me know that my journey and my story had inspired them in so many different ways,” the 31-year-old was quoted as saying.
“I think there’s something about coming out to any venue, not really expecting to win, but just going along with the journey and seeing what comes out of it. And that’s the most beautiful part for me, being a track and field athlete, the platform that I have, I feel so responsible to be a representative of people who don’t have the same platform, don’t have the same voice that I do.”
And her daughter turned out fine and super cute to boot!

The singer-actress was accused of objectifying her daughter when she was a baby and again recently.
We are of the opinion that while there are pervs on the Internet that sadly and disgustingly objectify little girls, it’s too bad that people are so quick to sexualize children.

The 2017 BET Awards went down at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. I confess that I only got a chance to catch the end as I was heading to the beach to celebrate my eldest kid’s birthday and didn’t settle in to our suite until the show was well into its fourth and final hour! But I must say, that I thorougly enjoyed the singing chops of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Tamar Braxton who did an excellent job performing her new song, “My Man” on stage.
Tameka Tiny Cottles Harris, LaTocha and Tamika Scott and Kandi Burruss of 1990s girl group Xscape reuniting soon for a tour
Sadly, I missed a couple of our other bumpwatch alums, Kandi Buruss and Tameka “Tiny” Harris perform with their 1990s R&B girl group, Xscape.
The duo joined fellow members LaTocha Scott and Tamika Scott in a medley of their hits on stage since breaking up as a group 18 years ago. It was the first of two explosive 90s R&B performances. The New Edition tribute and performances later blew me away!
Xscape will document their work as they prepare to perform at the 2017 Essence Festival. The docuseries, titled Xscape: Still Kickin’ It, premieres this fall on Bravo.

And platinum blonde, in general, had a big showing on Tiny’s daughter Zonnique, who is also a recording-artist. She wore her hair in that shade as did Lateysha Grace, a German transplant who has been on three seasons of MTV show The Valleys.

It was also cool to see so many parents bring their children to the show. DJ Khaled actually brought his son Asahad on stage with him during his performance. It reminded me of all the NBA babies at their dads’ games.
Jamie Foxx had his daughter Annalise help him present on stage and Future got his daughter Londyn a matching bedazzled mask to wear in honor of his popular new single “Mask Off” which he later performed that night with a cameo from Kenderick Lamar. Another big winner was Chance the Rapper whose mom accompanied him to the show.
Speaking of Winners. Beyonce was a BIG winner taking home the most awards for Best Female R&B Performer, Viewers’ Choice, Video of the Year for her song “Sorry” (which tied with Bruno Mars) and is off her album Lemonade, which one for Album of the Year. The director for “Sorry” won the for Best Director.
Her sister Solange took home the Centric Award for her song “Cranes in the Sky” which also earned the star her first Grammy award earlier in the year. Besides Solange, we spotted a few of our other Bumpwatch alums at the event including Keyshia Cole.
