3 Viral Videos that are Trending

Viral videos are great for putting a smile on your face, especially those you can relate to or use in y our life.  Here are three viral videos I’ve seen float across my computer screen plenty in the past week or so. Thought I’d share in case you missed them:

I think I’ve seen dozens of time this super adorable video of a wife surprising her husband with a pregnancy announcement inside the photo booth of the couple’s favorite local pizza shop. It’s a tearjerker, viewed over 11 million times already:

Another viral video is this cute one from “Story of This Anderson Life” on sneaking out on a sleeping baby! Too funny! It has over 1 million views:

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Finally, this  how to make home made ice cream with the kids video has also made its way around the net and back.

I finally tested it out with my brood this weekend and look at our masterpiece:
I learned how to “stage” for social media watching Top Chef! ha!

2015 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Fashion & moments

Of the Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums who we spotted at the 2015 Critics Choice Awards at the Hollywood Palladium on January 15 in LA,  our “best dressed” award goes to mom-to-be Keira Knightley who dazzled and glowed in a gorgeous A-line draped gown by Delpozo with its flowing train and embroidered embellishment.
Angelina Jolie looked pretty haute in a simple draped silver Versace gown. I was not feeling Reese Witherspoon‘s color block Lanvin dress at all, especially not that long train in the back. It looks like it just truncated her torso unecessarily and the shoes were all wrong.
Similarly, Emily Blunt‘s Emilio Pucci dress was just meh, but congrats to her though for taking home the award for the Best Actress in an Action film for her role in Edge of Tomorrow.
It was cute how her husband John Krasinski came out and surprised his The Devil Wears Prada  star wife with a hug from behind. He was waiting in the wings to present next. So sweet!

I did love Marion Cotillard’s “Alice in Wonderland/through the Looking glass’esque Dior Haute Couture dress, although I was not crazy about the sleek back hair with it. In any event, it was artistic.

Why raising kids into good adults should be valued more

Last night, I was watched a panel of successful, entrepreneurial women dispense advice as part of a session at POLITICO‘s Women Rule Summit last December.  (SEE the video HERE)
Much of the advice given at the “Creating your own corporate ladder” session was inspirational and inspiring. Perhaps, however, none was more to me awesome to me as a parent than what Kara Goldin, founder of Hint Water, said about  her children.
She spoke about her four school-aged children growing to learn about entrepreneurship.
Goldin said someone recently told her “there is almost no way” her kids won’t be entrepreneurs “because they’ve grown up in a house where they’ve seen their mom raising money; they’ve seen their mom hiring and firing people; they’ve seen their mom produce strategy and marketing plans sessions, so they have a lot knowledge of what it means to run a business and they are all between the ages of 9 and 15. “
Goldin, a former AOL executive, said she felt involving her children in her work is best for her two boys more so than her two girls because they will have no problem working with a female boss when they grow up.
And there you have it.
We live in a world with 7 billion people and while none of us are perfect, there is more than an adequate amount of people who make a mess of things because they weren’t raised to respect process, hierarchy, and other people’s hustle. So many learned the world from a linear, one note viewpoint and not to be flexible. Kudos to the moms and dads who do their part to populate the world with better humans.
No group of people have the most opportunity to do that than parents, especially home schoolers and stay-at-home or work from home moms who get to spend the most time with their children, generally.
Parents, even those without the most financial means, who put their children’s upbringing and needs ahead of superficial things, pleasures and other distractions are going to be the best at raising next generation humans because they are going to research and find the opportunities, resources and support, and go above and beyond no matter what. The output of all that effort will net better, more empathetic and conscientious adults.
A hardy hats off to them because that matters.

Eco-Friday: 5 must have herbs for cold and flu season

We are well into cold and flu season. Before reaching for over-the-counter medication to cure a cold, flu or cough, consider giving a try one of these 5 must-have herbs to beat winter illnesses, as suggested by Dr. Christopher Hobbs, Director of Herbal Science at Rainbow Light:

1.       Chamomile – Traditionally revered for easing digestive woes, this herb also soothes muscle cramps, headaches, body aches, and pains associated with the flu. The key to success is to use the freshest herb possible, whether fresh or in dried form.

o    Suggestion: Make 1 quart of the infusion at a time by adding freshly boiled water to 2 to 4 ounces of the dried flowering tops. Drink 1 cup at a time, three to five times daily.

2.       Echinacea – This powerful herb triggers your immune response and helps reduce the severity and duration of unpleasant cold and flu symptoms

o    Suggestion: Make a team from the fresh, or recently dried, chopped root, flowers and/or leaves and drink 1 cup two to five times daily.

3.       Elder – Historically known for prevention and treatment of the cold and flu, this herb also has potent antiviral properties which make it effective in easing and reducing duration of fevers

o    Suggestion: Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 2 tbsp. of fresh or dried elder blossoms, infuse for 10 minutes, and strain. Take 1 to 2 cups of the infusion two or three times daily, or as needed, to induce sweating, promote cleansing, and reduce heat.

4.       Fennel – This herb is used worldwide to help ease the symptoms of bronchitis, coughs, and muscular pains

o    Suggestion: Make the tea by simmering 1 tsp. of the seeds for each cup of water for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and let stand, covered, for another 20 minutes before straining the seeds. Drink 1 cup before meals as needed.

5.       Honeysuckle – An herb used in traditional Chinese medicine for relief of upper respiratory tract infections, fevers, bronchitis, and sore throat

o    Suggestion: Make a strong infusion by steeping the flowers for up to 30 minutes, and drink ½ to 1 cup twice daily, or as often as desired.

Kate Middleton emerges from being sidelined by morning sickness

The Duchess of Cambridge has restarted public appearances again. This week, the former Kate Middleton headed to a London primary school that she was scheduled to visit in October before being sidelined by extreme morning sickness.
At the visit to a new Art Room at Barlby Primary School, Middleton wore a French tweed Madderson London “Naomi” dress from its Autumn/Winter 2014 collection. The navy above-the-knee shift dress has gold buttons, top stitching detail, three-quarter sleeves and an invisible zimmer in the back.
It’s already sold out at Pinstripe and Pearls.
The children greeted her with a banner they made themselves and gifted her a tin chair made up of stamps donated by the Royal Household. Maybe that adorable Prince George will get to use it. Very cute.

What are your odds of your next child being a boy or a girl?

According to a longitudal study, the odds are high that families with 3 children will have a fourth; and the odds of having a girl DECREASES after each boy child is born.
In-Gender published the results of a longitudual study  based on Department of Labor data about the odds of having a boy and girl  that also revealed some insights into parents decisions to keep “trying” for a child of the other gender.
You can find the results HERE, but in sum it said:
  • Parents are slightly more likely to stop having children if the first child is a girl.
  • Parents are 6% more likely to stop having children if the first two children are a boy and a girl.
  • Of parents with two same-gender children, parents of two girls are 3% more likely to stop having children than parents of two boys.
  • Parents of 3 same-gender children are only 2% more likely to have a 4th child than parents with mixed-gender children.
  • Parents of 2 boy, 1 girl families are the most likely to have a 4th child.(uh oh. That’s me!)
  •  The odds of having a girl seem decrease after having each boy, but only very slightly. Even after 3 boys, you are only 6.4% more likely to have a 4th boy than a girl.

  • The odds of having a boy seem to increase after having girls, except after 2 girls, when a 3rd girl is more likely.
  • Regardless of previous children, the odds are in favor of having a boy at some point
  • The odds that there will be all one-gender kids in a family are also high
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
