REVIEW: TriBeCa Film’s “Expecting” captures female bonding in fertility/surrogacy dramedy (TRAILER)

If you are thinking of catching a movie to watch at home for date night or girls’ night in, consider downloading “ Expecting”.

This Jessie McCormack written and

directed film presents an unconventional pregnancy story through the peculiar lives

of a quirky yet human and relatable ensemble cast starring Boston Public’s  Michelle

Monaghan
.  Her character Andie, a

sexually liberated free-spirit who resists the traps of aging and responsibility,

winds up accidentally pregnant from a one-night stand. She volunteers to give up

her baby to her best friend Lizzie (Radha

Mitchell
of horror film Silent Hill) who is having troubles

conceiving with her husband of several years Peter (Jon Dore).
For sake of convenience, Andie

moves in with the two-some and soon personalities clash and three become a

crowd. The cramped quarters become more constrained when Peter’s substance abuse recovering adult adoptive

brother, Casey (Michael Weston), shacks

up with the non-traditional trio temporarily after completing rehab at the insistence

of a guilt-ridden and paternalistic Peter who wants to make sure Casey doesn’t

relapse again.
The mix of hormones, anxiety, tension, cigarettes, emotions,

unresolved angst and uncertainty blend to create some pretty interesting

exchanges during the nine months the awkward grouping is forcibly glued together.

Lizzie and Peter’s couple

therapist Dr. Grayson (MiMi Kenney )

rounds off the eclectic mix of characters but just to interject some forced clichéd

psych visits. It’s really extra and could’ve been left out.

The movie really centers around

the bond and friendship between Andie and Lizzie and is much a story about

female friendships, and it works given a woman wrote and directed

the project.
The film deals with themes related

to the challenges that couples must and should consider before getting married because when one partner is not that gung ho

about kids and another one is, you can imagine how much of a challenge that

could be if fertility issues crop up.
This film may be a portrayal of something you or someone you know is going through right now
Michelle Monaghan –
The movie also explores all the

various options and complex considerations couples deal with when they discover

they are infertile: adoption, in vitro fertilization, and surrogacy. It tackles

these issues in a situational drama with bursts of comedic interplay thrown in.

It’s heartwarming at spots, uncomfortable at others, and almost unrealistic

elsewhere.  Without giving away too much,

the story has an unsurprising ending which is still a little disappointing, but

not necessarily bad. [ Okay, that was confusing It’s hard to be revealing while

trying not to be too revealing here.] Let’s just say there is a reason to go through the formalized steps when opting for surrogacy.
It’s not much of a feel-good story, though you will enjoy some of the many human moments weaved within. Mitchell’s character is sympathetic in her longing to become a mother. It will get you thinking and is quite entertaining

overall. The 90-minutes goes by fast.
Monaghan, who currently stars as a

detective in the new HBO crime drama

True

Detective,
is a standout and her personality, as depicted through her

character, shines through the screen. She seemingly was typecast in this film

considering the fact she played Robert Downey Jr’s character’s pregnant wife in the 2010 film Due Date.
And it was art imitating life because Monaghan and her hubby since 2005 Peter White welcomed their very own

real live baby, their second child, son Tommy

Francis
on October 30 2013 after the film debuted at TriBeCa Film Festival last year. Tommy joined big sis Willow Katherine who is 4.
“Expecting” is available on

iTunes, Google Play, Amazon on demand and Vulu via The TriBeCa Film Festival site.

5 Tricks for taking out stains from the baby’s clothes

GG

From spit up to spinach, there’s nothing less attractive than when your baby sports a sweater with a yellow stain running down her side. While stains from food and bodily fluids can be stubborn, they are not impossible to remove.

Here are 5 tips for removing stubborn stains from your baby’s clothes:
1. Use an enzyme detergent to remove protein based stains. By breaking down the proteins found in food, formula, and bodily fluids such as vomit and diarrhea, enzyme based detergents are powerful stain busters. Detergents like Wisk or Era Plus are formulated to eat away at protein based stains and can restore fabrics to their prior stain-free conditions.
2. Use cornstarch to remove oil and grease stains. By absorbing the oils left from diaper cream, petroleum jelly, or baby oil, cornstarch or talcum powder may lift off the stain. Apply cornstarch to the affected area and let it sit on the stain for about 20 minutes. Scrape off the cornstarch before laundering.
3. Use a paste made of club soda and baking powder. For stubborn, set-in stains, make a paste of club soda and baking powder. Put it on the stain and let it sit for a half hour before scraping it off and laundering as usual. You may need to use a gentle bristled brush to work out the stain.
4. Make a Biz bin. Combine ¼ cup Biz Stain fighter, ¼ cup clear liquid dish soap, and 1 ½ gallons of boiling water. Soak your item until the stain is removed and launder as usual.  If the water gets dirty, drain and repeat before laundering.
5. Pre-treat fruit, veggie, and berry stains with a solution of rubbing alcohol and water. After washing your baby’s clothing item in cold water, apply an equal solution of rubbing alcohol and water to the stain. If the stain does not come out, treat with a product such as Shout or Spray ‘n’ Wash.

8 tips for baby-proofing the Kitchen

Bringing a new baby home from the hospital is an eye-opening experience for first-time parents’, showing them a new world of lurking dangers that went entirely unseen while the house was inhabited solely by adults. Knowing that your tiny bundle of joy will be crawling, and then walking, is what makes the chore of childproofing seem like a fairly urgent one. The truth is, there’s no time too early to childproof, even if your newborn is still learning to focus their eyes; kids grow up quickly, and it’s better to be well-prepared in advance than have the need for childproofing measures present themselves after your pride and joy has already had a mishap.

  1. Place Safety Gates at Entrances – Whenever feasible, it’s best to keep babies out of the kitchen altogether. This holds especially true for times when you’re not in the kitchen to supervise, and placing baby safety gates at all entrances keeps a crawling baby or shambling toddler from slipping into this household danger zone without the knowledge of an adult.
  2. Install Cabinet Locks – Aside from the dangerous substances, utensils, and other items that are often stored in lower cabinets, there is also a very real risk of injured hands and fingers. Should tiny digits be smashed by a cabinet door they could very easily be injured more severely than you might imagine; to prevent this and accidental poisoning by household chemicals, install a set of cabinet locks on all lower cabinet doors.
  3. Consider a Drawer Guide System – Toddlers are usually just tall enough to open a drawer and close it again, though they may not have enough height to peek inside at the contents. Still, drawers can slam on small fingers too, inflicting painful damage to their fragile fingers. Installing a drawer guide system designed to insure that drawers close softly and smoothly every time might help to reduce this risk.
  4. Invest in Electrical Outlet Plates – The small, translucent plastic outlet covers that most adults remember from their own childhoods are still commercially available; they do, however, present a choking hazard and can also be quickly figured out by observant toddlers. Kids learn by mimicking adults, so it won’t take too many instances of watching you remove an outlet cover before using it for your child to grasp the concept. Since small outlet covers may not be ideal, it might be wise to consider full outlet plates that cover both sockets and immediately slide back into place after use.
  5. Install an Oven Lock – Ovens can be purchased with a factory installed lock, but if your oven doesn’t have one you can purchase after-market varieties that can be installed on your existing oven as well. This will prevent curious little hands from landing themselves in the emergency room with severe burns. They’re not always the most attractive feature in a kitchen, but sacrificing style in the interest of your baby’s safety is perennially en vogue.
  6. Move Cleaners and Other Chemicals to Higher Ground – Installing cabinet locks is a wise idea because they can keep kids from pinching their fingers or accessing dangerous items inside. However, parents can’t rely solely upon a cabinet lock to keep determined pint-sized investigators out, so it’s advised that all cleaning fluids and other potentially harmful chemicals be moved to upper cabinets, way out of kids’ reach
  7. Stow Away the Garbage Can – While a rational adult would assume that the off-putting odor of a garbage can would be repellent enough on its own, there’s something about the refuse heap that captures kids’ curiosity. To keep your baby or toddler out of the smelly, dirty, and bacteria-laden trash, move the can to a cabinet or invest in a model with a childproof lid.
  8. Train Yourself to Unplug Small Appliances – Unplugging a small appliance, like a blender, mixer, or toaster, can be a difficult thing for new parents to remember; after all, adults know the very real risk that dropping these items in a sink full of water presents. Small children may not be able to grasp this concept for a while, however, so it’s advised that new and even expecting parents get themselves accustomed to the idea of doing just that to prevent tragic accidents.

Report: Hugh Grant welcomed third love child in two years

File this under missed and a bit reckless: It turns out Rapper Ludacris and NBA player Dwayne Wade aren’t the only ones going around having unprotected sex and spawning children outside their long-term committed relationships.
British actress Hugh Grant apparently fathered 3rd love children in two years, according to recent reports.
A Swedish TV producer named  Anna Elisabeth Eberstein gave birth to the Love Actually actor’s son in September 2012, The Sun reported. That kid arrived only three months before another woman Tinglan Hong gave birth to Hugh’s second child with, a son Felix.
A year prior Hong birthed Grant’s first child, daughter Tabitha Xaoi Xi Hong. Their relationship was characterized in the British press as a fling.
But the Notting Hill star tweeted out the news about Hong’s second birth and said she’s a “fab” mum.
“In answer to some journos. Am thrilled my daughter now has a brother,” Grant tweeted in February 2013. “Adore them both to an uncool degree. They have a fab mum.”
Oh ok. Sure.
The never-married About A Boy star dated actress Elizabeth Hurley for 13 years before they split in 2000. He was busted getting services from Hollywood prostitute Divine Brown 5- years before the break up.
Spreading that seed.

Valentine’s Day: 5 ways to pamper your pregnant wife

A woman likes to be spoiled – period. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Christmas, her birthday, or just Tuesday, she loves feeling special.  So you can count on the fact that if she’s pregnant, she wants and needs to be pampered. If you’re looking to earn some brownie points, this pamper list has got you covered. Below are some great ways that you can let her know that you love her:

  1. The Power of the Spa What girl doesn’t love to spa? Spas are the epitome of being pampered. These days, many spas are catering to pregnant women. Now she can get a specially designed massage that addresses her body’s needs. A spa is a lot like a fancy restaurant; it has a menu full of delicious choices. Feel free to select an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert for your lady. Get her a facial, a massage, and a pedicure. She’ll leave feeling relaxed, pampered, pretty – and appreciated.
  2. The Little Things Sometimes, it’s the little things that count. Those small but thoughtful gestures can have the biggest impact. Sometimes just asking if needs or wants anything can earn you big brownie points (even getting her real brownies can get you brownie points). Her hormones are a lot like a roller coaster. It’s important that you are sensitive to her feelings, and that you simply let her know that you are there for her. Give her a little foot rub, do the dishes, make dinner, or give her a card. These may seem like small gestures, but they’re ones that will make her feel pampered and loved.
  3. Girls Just Want to Have Fun Cyndi Lauper sang it well: “Girls just want to have fun.” Plan a special little get together for her and her friends. Organize a spa day or an intimate girl dinner at the house. Whatever you decide, just make sure it thoughtful. Don’t microwave a couple some popcorn or hotdogs and think that makes a special girls’ night. If you do it, do it well. If you succeed, you’ll be a big hit with Ms. Preggers and her friends. Warning: Fellow husbands might have a bone to pick with you.
  4. Your Love is like a Rock Your love is like a rock, and this baby solidifies that fact. What better way to show her that you love and appreciate her than with a rock? Diamonds, baby. Getting her some jewelry, whether it’s with diamonds or not, is a great way to symbolize your love and this special event in your lives. You can give her this luxe little gift before or after the birth of your baby. What woman doesn’t love jewelry? She’ll love it, and unlike her clothes, jewelry is a perfect fit. If possible, stick to necklaces or earrings. Fingers can swell during pregnancy. Jewelry will make her feel like a princess, and make her see you as her prince.
  5. Date Night Women love romance, which is why they’ll even see a romantic comedy that’s received bad reviews. Like shoes, a woman can never have too much romance. Try planning a romantic date or getaway.  Dinner at her favorite restaurant, a romantic candle-lit dinner in the backyard, a movie night on the sofa snuggling, or a mini weekend getaway at a luxurious hotel. Any of these ideas will make her feel pampered. For an extra dose of appreciation, feel free to indulge her with more than one of these fab ideas.

Hopefully, these ideas will inspire and get the cretative juices flowing!
