‘This is Us’ Star Alexandra Breckenridge Shoots New Campaign as Palmer’s ‘Spoke-Belly’

While the popular NBC show This is Us ramps up for its second season, one of its stars Alexandra Breckenridge is also prepping for the birth of her second child, due February 2018.

Recently, Brecknridge started working as a brand ambassador for America’s No. 1 stretch mark brand in the U.S., Palmer, which has also reformulated their line to deliver even better results for smooth skin. New ads for the updated Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks, Massage Cream for Stretch Marks and Tummy Butter for Stretch Marks will feature Breckenridge.

Last week, the beautiful blonde who is also known for her roles on True Blood, The Walking Dead, and American Horror Story, had a photo shoot at a private LA residence for the campaign which will roll out beginning in February 2018 in print and digital properties, and on television and radio.

“As a longtime Palmer’s lover, I have trusted the brand’s products to keep my skin looking healthy and feeling amazing throughout my pregnancy journey,” said Breckenridge. “I’m so excited to share my pregnancy experience – and my belly – with the world through this partnership. Palmer’s has truly enhanced my natural ‘pregnancy glow’ and have allowed me to feel comfortable and confident.”

While genetics, the amount of water you drink and other factors impact whether you get stretch marks while pregnant, certainly keeping the belly moisturized and massaging it with a salve that contain natural skin-loving ingredients like Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E and pure oils,  helps. Palmer’s products are free of mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, artificial dyes and are hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested, for healthy skin during pregnancy.

“The storied ad campaigns for our stretch mark range have become a true celebration of the confidence that comes along with the joy of pregnancy and we are thrilled that Alexandra Breckenridge is the latest star to share her journey with us,” said  Jennifer Leonard, E.T. Browne Senior Product Manager. “With the launch of our Palmer’s New Enhanced Stretch Mark Formulas this winter, this campaign will document the natural beauty of pregnancy and give an intimate glimpse of early motherhood with all of our fans.”

Breckenridge and her husband guitarist Casey Hooper married in September 2015 and welcomed their first child, son, Jack a year later on September 3, 2016. They announced this Summer in August 2017 that they were expecting their second kid!

Jury Awards $26M to Brooklyn Couple Over Botched Twin Delivery

After undergoing IVF treatment, Brooklyn mom Danielle Madden Buck and her husband successfully conceived triplets.

The couple went along with docs when they recommended they bring only two babies to term because twins have a higher likelihood of survival, they said.

When Danielle started spotting at 20 weeks into her pregnancy, she went to Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park on February 9, 2010 for consultation but the overcrowded hospital with overworked staff, according to court documents, messed up by sending her home.

“They didn’t feel like anything was going on,” Danielle told The New York Post, which published an article about Buck’s story and lawsuit against the hospital this week.

By the time she went back to the hospital on February 17 that year for a routine sonogram, it was too late. One of the twin’s head was crowning.

While the doctors were able to keep Danielle  pregnant until February 28, her twin girls Aleigha and Madelyn were born, weighing around 1.5 pounds each.

A month later, Madelyn died from an infection.

Danielle told the paper that it was utter chaos before the birth, explaining that she was moved multiple times before then.

“My bed was right in front of the nursery. The nurses kept saying, ‘Would you like us to bring your baby?’ and I said, ‘I didn’t have my baby, I don’t know if my children are going to make it,’ ” she said.

What is even worse is that she was only given the chance to hold her daughter who died once, Buck reports.

Her surviving daughter is deaf and cannot speak, and suffers from kidney failure.

Buck and her husband, Andrew, sued the hospital for $13.5 million, claiming negligence and a jury of 6, three men and three women, took only 8 hours of deliberation last week to award the couple double what they sought: $26.19M!

“It’s like a baby mill,” Buck told The Post of the hospital, which had the busiest maternity ward in the state at the time, according to reports.“At the end of the day, I thought, if I file a lawsuit and there was negligence on their part, maybe they’ll think twice before they send another mother home.”

Buck conceived without medical intervention about a year after the twins’ birth and gave birth to a boy.

The hospital said in a statement, “We are disappointed by the verdict but understand how hard it is for jurors to send a family home without monetary compensation when children are involved.”

It added: “We believe excellent care was provided, and presented very credible evidence to support that point — credible enough that the family’s own attorneys chose to enter into a bracketed settlement before the jury returned its verdict.”

How to Fake That Celeb Pregnancy Glow

pregnancy glow

We share the secret of getting a beautiful pregnancy glow out of a bottle!

Theoretically pregnancy is meant to make you glow, its a biological ‘fact’. The increased amount of blood that’s circulating around your body is meant to give you a beautifully flushed look and as your skin retains more moisture and produces more sebum you’re meant to be glowing with a luminous dewy sheen – sound familiar?

Don’t worry if not, the combination of nausea, lack of sleep and sensitive skin experienced by many mums-to-be doesn’t lend itself well to natural radiance. Thankfully its easy to fake it – we explain how to get that ‘movie star’ pregnancy glow and only you need know its not real!

Step 1 – The Start

The first place to start is on the inside, drinking 8 – 10 glasses of water a day will do wonders for clearing your skin and helping to flush out water retention too. A good prenatal vitamin combined with a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruit, vegetables and omega rich foods will help too.

Step 2 – The Cleanser

Whether you suffer from dry, normal or oily skin its important to wash your face thoroughly twice a day. Using a gentle exfoliater such as Botanics In Shower Facial Polish will help to remove dead skin cells and improve circulation, banishing dull skin for good.

For best results apply in circular motions with your fingertips and rinse off with lukewarm water. Patting rather than rubbing your face dry can also help prevent blotchy skin and spider veins as you’re less likely to break the tiny capillaries that sit just under the surface of your skin.

Step 3 – The Moisturizer

Using a good moisturizer after cleansing is a must for gorgeous glowing skin. Massaging a fragrance free, sensitive moisturizer such as OZ Naturals Facial Moisturizer  into your face and neck will really help to give your complexion a lift without irritating your skin. If possible it’s best to go for a moisturizer that contains an SPF factor to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful rays especially as this can also help to reduce the likelihood of chloasma (brown patches) developing.

Step 4 – The Base

Blend a light base into your skin with your fingertips. It’s specially designed to conceal dark circles and skin imperfections with minimal effort so you needn’t spend hours blending for that flawless finish. Tinted moisturizers and foundations like stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF contain light reflecting particles are also great for giving that dewy, smooth finish we all wish we had naturally.

Step 5 – The Blush

Recreate that gorgeous flushed look and perk up a grey complexion with a swirl of pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. A slightly shimmery, rosy color is always a good bet as it fakes a really healthy glow in an instant. I like Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick because it accommodates all complexions.

Step 6 – The Highlighter

Blending a peach toned highlighter along your cheek and brow bones will really help to lift your look and mimic that pregnancy sheen in seconds. You only need to use a dot and you’ll be able to recreate that ‘slept like a baby look’ on the sly. MAC’s Primed for Perfection Prep + Prime Highlighter brings a soft, sheer wash of color to the skin and goes on smoothly.

Step 7 – The Mascara

A sensitive mascara in black/brown will be gentler and more flattering on tired eyes. Curl your eyelashes first for a really wide awake look. You can’t go wrong with the old drug store fave, Maybeline’s Great Lash that usually runs under $5!

Step 8 – The Lips

To top off your gorgeously glowy look a sheer lipstick is a must. Go for a shade that’s as close to your natural lip color as possible as this will really help to finish your ‘natural’ look. Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip is a light gel that has a plumping effect.

So, now you’ve faked radiant, glowing skin all you need to do is smile and pretend that you feel as gorgeous as you look!

Court: Pregnancy No Reason to Grant Defendant Bail

A New Jersey appellate court has ruled that pregnancy should not be given greater weight than other factors when a judge decides if a defendant should remain in custody pending trial.

The ruling issued Friday overturned a state judge’s decision that Imani Williams could be released pending her trial on aggravated assault and robbery charges.

Lawyers for the 20-year-old Riverside woman had argued she shouldn’t be detained because she had a job and was about two-months pregnant. But Burlington County prosecutors argued that Williams could be violent, has an extensive history of criminal activity and past violations of probation.

The appellate court found that the judge gave Williams’ pregnancy “undue weight,” noting that the jail system would be able to provide her with appropriate prenatal care.

The panel ruled that pregnancy, like any other medical condition, should only be considered for its impact on the risk of a defendant posing a danger to the community, obstructing justice or failing to appear in court. But it did note that some pregnancies, whether they be high-risk or have a more direct impact on a defendant’s health and ability to appear in court, could outweigh other concerns in determining if a defendant should be detained.

How to Talk to Your Kids About Tragedy

With recent tragedies in the news, many children, including those challenged with special needs, are exposed to trauma through the media and in conversations.

The Episcopal Center for Children (ECC), a nonprofit school serving children with special needs ages 5-14 in the Washington, DC area, offers some advice on how to talk with your child about tragedy.

“Children hear information from other children and from the activities around them. Your child will pick up information very quickly after a traumatic event happens,” said Dodd White, president and CEO of ECC. “It’s important for parents and guardians to set a tone of openness and support with their children, and to re-assure children that they are safe.”

Dodd and the staff at ECC offer the following tips and advice:

1. Use age appropriate language. Talk with your child about the tragedy in a way that is appropriate for his or her age. Elementary schoolers may have questions about their own safety and security. Older children may want more information about the cause of the tragedy or want to talk about how it could be prevented.

2. Share what is appropriate for your child. Be mindful about the personality of your child. Your child may be a 6-year-old who laughs at monsters in movies and can handle the truth about bad guys being a reality of life. Or your child may be a 10-year-old who cannot handle scary movies, and gets emotional when people are hurt. When answering your child’s questions about tragic news events, let the unique personality of your child be your guide.

3. Let your child know it is ok to talk to you about the tragedy. Spend time talking with your child. Let them know that they are welcome to ask questions and express their concerns and feelings. You might not know all the answers and it is OK to say that. At the same time, don’t push them to talk if they don’t want to. Let them know you are available when they are ready.

4. Be calm. Your child will look to you for cues about how to react. It’s OK for children to see adults sad or crying, but consider excusing yourself if you are experiencing intense emotions.

5. Reassure your child about his or her own safety. Point out factors that ensure your child’s immediate safety and the safety of the community. Review your family’s plans for responding to a crisis. Assure your child that he or she is safe and loved.

6. Limit media exposure. Constant exposure to coverage of a tragedy can heighten anxiety. Do not allow young children to repeatedly see or hear news coverage of a tragedy. Even if a young child is engrossed in play, he or she is likely aware of what you are watching on television – and can become confused or upset. Older children might want to learn more about a tragedy by reading or watching TV. However, avoid repetitive loops of news information once you have the facts.

7. Avoid placing blame. Be careful not to blame a cultural, racial or ethnic group, or people who have mental illnesses.

8. Maintain your family routines. Continue your family’s usual routines for waking up, dinnertime, and bedtime. The familiarity of these routines will help your child.

9. Promote self-care. Encourage your child to drink enough water, eat regularly, rest, and exercise. And follow this advice for yourself too!

10. Spend extra time together. Spend a little more time reading to your child. Take a few extra moments when tucking him or her in at night. If your child is having trouble sleeping, allow him or her to sleep with a light on or to sleep in your room for a short time. Extra hugs and cuddles are good too. All of these actions can improve your child’s sense of security.

11. Watch for signs of stress and anxiety in your child.  Look for hyperactivity, irritability, regression, stomach aches/headaches, and separation anxiety. Take steps to relieve stress and anxiety.

12. Get physical. Exercise can relieve stress and help you and your child get a better perspective.

13. Pay close attention to your child if he or she has emotional problems, learning challenges, is going through major changes at home, or has experienced trauma in the past. Children can merge a new trauma and it can heighten their anxieties. If your child has suffered a loss, is facing special challenges, or been exposed to other trauma, he or she may be at greater risk of a severe reaction to a new tragic event. Watch your child closely for any changes in mood or behavior.

14. Do not dismiss or minimize your child’s feelings. Your child might worry that someone will come and hurt him or her. Rather than saying she’s being silly or that such things will never happen, help your child put things in perspective. Say how rare such things would be, and explain how unlikely they are. Address each concern. Point out that many children and parents out there have the same worries and we can instead focus on the definite “will happens” (fun things to do at home and at school and with friends and family) rather than on the very unlikely “might happens.”

15. Encourage the expression of feelings. Explain that it’s OK to be upset. Let your child write about or draw what he or she is feeling. Physical activity might serve as an outlet for feelings or frustration. If your child is acting out, explain that there are other ways of coping.

16. Do something for those affected by the tragedy. Focusing on what can be done to help others, can help children feel less anxious and more secure. Consider ways that you and your child can help victims and their families. You might take your child to your place of worship, light a memorial candle, or write thank-you notes to first responders.

17. Get help if needed. If your child is still exhibiting signs of anxiety after a week or two. Seek out a school counselor, therapist, a member of the clergy, or any other spiritual leader or mental health professional.

Tips adapted from the Mayo Clinic, SpecialNeeds.com, and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
