Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each, then beat in vanilla. With mixer on low speed, add flour mixture in two batches, alternating with sour cream and beginning and ending with flour.

Pour batter into cups, filling each 3/4 full. Bake until a toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes.

Cool in pan 5 minutes; transfer to a wire rack to cool completely, then spread with Easy White Icing using a table knife or small offset spatula. Decorate with sprinkles, if desired.

Decorate patriotic cupcakes in July with stars piped in blue buttercream and stripes cut from red licorice laces.

It leaked to the Media and blogosphere and has since gone a bit viral.

What do you think of the super long veil and simple yet elegant white dress?

Researchers examined more than 300 South Australian women to study the impact of dietary habits prior to pregnancy on babies. Study found that those with poor diet were 50 percent more likely to have a preterm birth than those on a healthy diet.

Celeb Review: Baby SebaMed does wonders for baby skin

We asked new 2nd-time mom, Grammy-nominated World Music songstress Wayna to test out the new Baby Sebamed, a dermatologist-developed line of baby washes, creams, shampoos and more available at Duane Reade, Walgreens and SebamedUSA.com among other location. (product supplied by company for review)
The singer-songwriter gave birth to her second child with husband tech entrepreneur Kyle Stephen, another daughter Zema, last month.
The results were a glowing review. Here is what the mom to 3-year old daughter, Beza, and much buzzed-about singer-songwriter had to say:

My pediatrician advised that no product would resolve my baby’s flaking skin. “This top layer of the epidermis will replace itself in the first few days,” he said, and “no amount of lotion or oil will remove the flakiness.” For the most part, he was right. I tried a few different lotions and oils, and after an hour or so, the flakiness returned.

The brand philosophy of the Baby SebaMed line, however, is to replicate how the skin naturally heals itself. And with their lotion, my daughter’s skin looked and felt quite healthy, even as it underwent the process my doctor described. Moreover, it never felt or appeared over moisturized, and the effects far outlasted any of the other products I tried.

But more immediate than how the products seemed to help in healing was their smell and feel. The aroma is unique and sweet, but still subtle. And while I couldn’t have imagined my baby’s skin feeling any softer, with the Baby SebaMed bubble bath, it did. Just a few drops of it is enough, and even fewer of the lotion which is lite but still dense.

My only complaint with the SebaMed line is that my newborn is so totally soothed after her baths that I barely have enough time to dab on the lotion before she’s fussing from wanting to sleep. Any product that helps me accomplish that will certainly stay in my pantry, far longer than ‘the first day’, as their slogan suggests.

Great review! Thanks for sharing.

EcoFriday: 20 Tips to have a “Green” Memorial Day cookout

It’s Memorial Day weekend and many families around the US may be hosting barbecues and cook-outs in celebration of the holiday remembering fallen soldiers of war or military servicemen who have passed away. As you prepare to host an event in your home, consider implementing some of these simple suggestions for having a Green, Eco-Friendly and Environmentally-friendly event.
  1. Plan ahead so you don’t have too much food.
  2. Use natural charcoal or better yet natural gas or propane grill which are more environmentally friendly.
  3. Buy local produce from local farmer’s markets
  4. Buy organic foods
  5. Consider vegan or vegatarian options which are better for the digestive system
  6. Use all natural insect repellant and bug sprays which are better on the skin, especially for small children
  7. Bring home the goods in a recyclable or paper not plastic bags
  8. Serve food on reusable plates and utensils or biodegradable or recyclable flat and tableware
  9. Start your fire with a chimney starter instead of lighter fluid
  10. Cook with pans and items made of recyclable materials
  11. Spread the energy consumed cooking around by having guests bring a dish
  12. Grill as much as you can, and even cook the foods in the burners on the grill because it saves energy
  13. Cover pans while cooking to reduce cooking time or energy bill if you are cooking on the stove in the kitchen
  14. Cut up the food into smaller pieces to let them cook faster and save energy
  15. Consider using a water-filter pitcher or a faucet mounted filter for water instead of bottle water
  16. Mix up a batch of lemonade or iced tea and serve in a large pitcher or punch bowl to cut down on cans and plastic bottles
  17. Figure out creative ways to “remix” the leftovers rather than dump them out.
  18. Compost the veggies or grill scraps.
  19. Clean up using non-toxic cleansers and Green cleaning products
  20. Recycle when you’re done!

Even if you can institute a few of these suggestions, you would have done at least something to reduce your carbon footprint, and give back to Mother Earth. Happy Grilling!

Memorial Day: 16 Things NOT to say to a Military Spouse

Memorial Day is this Monday and generally, in addition to honoring and remembering fallen soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice, people also have come to use the holiday to also express their gratitude to alive, wounded and actively serving members of the military.
This holiday, Mom.me‘s Rebecca Yarros reminds us all of the top 16 things to NOT say to a military spouse. Often times, people are well-intentioned but end up sticking their feet in their mouths and insulting those women (and men) who are married to servicemen.
Here is a snapshot of the items on the list:
1. “But, that war is over.”
2. “Do you really think the military is the right environment to raise a child?”
3. “Can’t you just go visit him?”
4. “You must think men in uniform are sexy!”
5. “Don’t all military wives cheat when their husbands are gone?”
6. “Oh, ‘Army Wives,’ just like the TV show?”
7. “Man, I wish my husband would deploy.”
8. “Where can I get that pretty gold star pin?”
9. “ I know just how you feel, my boyfriend has business trips all the time.”

10. “Marriage must be so much easier when he’s not home to annoy you!”
11. “So, has he killed people?”
12. “Have you thought about getting in shape during deployment and surprising him?”
13. “Aren’t you scared he’ll die?”
14. “Will he ever get that scar fixed?”
15. “You knew what you were getting into.”
16. “I could never do that.”
To read why these words are “no-nos” head over to Me.com and check out Yarros’ piece there.

Read Toni Braxton’s Autism as Punishment for Abortion comments in Context (Autism History INFOGRAPHIC)

Today, news accounts of singer/reality TV star Toni Braxton‘s soon-to-be-released memoir “Unbreak My Heart” is creating debate of a quote over whether God was punishing her for a past abortion by giving her youngest son, Diezel autism.
As the New York Daily News reports, inside the book, she explains how 10 years ago she got pregnant while taking the intense acne medication Accutane which has the side effect of causing birth defects in children born to women taking the drug.  Braxton, who currently stars with her sisters in the WETV show Braxton Family Values, said she aborted the baby but later added she would’ve ended the pregnancy anyway out of convenience. She was dating  at the time her then-boyfriend Keri Lewis who she later married and bore two sons for Diezel Ky and Denim Cole.
“I was suddenly faced with a choice I’d never thought I’d have to make,” she wrote. “Amid my major misgivings about abortion, I eventually made the gut-wrenching decision… In my heart, I believed I had taken a life — an action that I thought God might one day punish me for. … My initial rage was quickly followed by another strong emotion: guilt. I knew I’d taken a life… I believed God’s payback was to give my son autism.”
Some are calling her all sorts of names for what appears to be a horrible thing to say for several reasons, among them (for people of Faith) (1) that it infers that God is not forgiving and is a punishing entity; and (2) that a child with autism is a curse to their parents.
With no judgment on Braxton, it is fair to assume that there are people out there who have thought that struggles to conceive a child or other birth related trauma or problems may have been a punishment from a higher being. As Braxton stated, it is an “odd” admission but she was being open and candid about her beliefs and feelings at that time based on the strict Christian upbringing and her personal faith systems, however flawed it may have been or is perceived as being.
She is being lambasted for saying openly in her book something that many women yesterday, today and tomorrow may say or wonder to themselves, perhaps privately. Let’s not kid ourselves.
Second, she did say later on in the interview and book that she eventually got educated about autism and changed her way of thinking.
People evolve in thought and behavior and reading her words out of context without taking into account that they are part of a growth in understanding is unfair to Braxton.
The only other thing that may be a little bit more off-putting is the fact that she appears to be an anti-vaxxer in that she mentions that her son only began to show signs of having autism after getting a vaccination. Meanwhile, there is a deadly form of measles rampant worldwide from anti-vaxxer offsprings going around contaminating the population.
