All about Idris Elba’s pregnant girlfriend Naiyana Garth who wore Tiffany Rose at the Golden Globes

Long Walk to Freedom actor Idris Elba attended the 71st annual Golden Globe awards Sunday, January 12 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills with his longtime pregnant girlfriend Naiyana Garth.

Elba was nominated for Best Actor in the Motion Picture Drama  for his role in the Freedom, the Nelson Mandela biopic and for Best Actor Miniseries or Television Film for his role in the BBC criminal drama Luther.   He didn’t walk away with either Sunday night. There’s always SAG and the Oscars, both coming up where he is also nominated.
Nonetheless, the British actor has much to look forward to with Garth who looked radiant in a black floor-length Tiffany Rose gown.
The designer, which we have  featured before, has dressed our other current Bellyitch Bumpwatch moms-to-be Princess Madeliene of Sweden and No Doubt  lead vocalist Gwen Stefani.

Garth, a fellow Brit and celebrity make-up artist, tweeted to a friend in early October about being very early in her pregnancy.
She later deleted the account.
Despite being seen out and about at various events with Garth sporting a noticeable bump, Elba who stars in this Summer’s Thor  only confirmed the news  two months later in December.
This will be their first child together.  Elba has an 11-year-old daughter named Isan from his marriage to ex-wife Dormowa Sherman. They live in Atlanta.
Garth reportedly attended Waldegrave School for Girls in London, then West Thames College in West London., Hello Beautiful  recently noted., adding that Garth’s career in make-up artistry started with humble beginnings at local mall counters. She worked her way up in the business to eventually to work on the faces of Jamie Oliver, Rupert Everett, Simon Bird, Freddie Fox, and Elba, hence how they met.

Study: Teen Pregnancy Reality TV shows reduced teen pregnancy rate

Reality television shows helped reduce teen pregnancy and abortions in the United States, a new study in this month’s National Bureau of Economic Research  concludes.
The research discovered that between 2009, when cable network MTV debuted 16 and Pregnant and the end of 2010, there was a 5.7% drop in teen births of babies that “would have been conceived” and teen abortions.
The authors monitored Nielsen ratings data, tweets about the show and Google searches for the show to discover spikes in online searches for terms like “birth control” or “abortion” precisely “at the time a new episode was released.
This analysis led researchers to find that the shows “had an influence on teens’ thinking regarding birth control and abortion,” Economists Melissa S. Kearney of the University of Maryland and Phillip B. Levine of Wellesley College, authors of the study, said
In  2012, the US teen birth  was at a 2.94% rate (29.4 out of every 1,000 girls between 15 and 19), which is high for a “developed” nation.  Nonetheless, the US has seen a significant drop in its overall teen birth rate since 1991 when it was 61.8 births per 1,000.

10 Tips to protect you & your kids from catching the flu

It’ flu season again.

Kids are back in school and susceptible to coming home with a virus they pick up for a classmate. There are things families can do to try to prevent catching the flu. Dr. Muhammad A. Mirza, Medical Director at the Allied Medical & Diagnostic in Clifton, NJ, offers these flu prevention tips for parents and their children.

  1. Wash your hands—The most effective way to prevent the spread of germs and the flu virus is to constantly wash your hands.  For those occasions where you are unable to wash your hands properly keep a bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer (at least 70% isopropyl alcohol or 60% ethyl alcohol) nearby.
  2. Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing—Rather than into your hands, try sneezing into a tissue (if handy) or into the fold of your elbow.
  3. Avoid frequently touching nose, eyes & mouth—Even with frequent washing, your hands are still covered in germs, so keep them away from the most common germ entrances  of the body.
  4. Keep surfaces and objects used daily clean—The flu virus can live and be transferred on a variety of surfaces.  So regularly wipe down desks, phones, tablets, doorknobs, counters, light switches, etc.
  5. Eat right—Help your body fight off flu viruses with a well balanced diet filled with fresh fruits, vegetables and foods that are rich in Vitamin-C.
  6. Stay active—Whether it is taking a quick walk or going to the gym, any type of cardio exercise will activate your body’s infection-fighting defenses and stimulate your immune system.
  7. Sleep—Let your body recover and fight off any germs that may have gotten into your system by getting plenty of sleep.
  8. Stay hydrated—Drinking fluids, especially water, is a great way to flush out any toxins that may have found their way into your system
  9. Manage stress—Stress can affect your immune system, reducing your body’s ability to fight off the flu virus or other germs.  Find ways to keep your stress low this winter season.
  10. Get vaccinated—One of the most effective ways to protect yourself from the flu is to get vaccinated.  So save yourself the misery and visit your doctor and get the shot.

Hope these are helpful. Stay well!

A Utah woman, 58, to give birth to own granddaughter soon

courtesy Salt Lake Tribune/Al Hartmann
A 58-year old Utah grandmother will soon give birth to her first grandchild, a baby girl.

Julia Navarro is the gestational surrogate carrier for her daughter Lorena McKinnon and son-in-law Micah McKinnon.
The couple had trouble to conceive “naturally” starting three years ago, and went through about a dozen miscarriages when Navarro offered to carry the baby after a sister and friend offered, then backed out.
“As a family, we have to help each other,” Navarro, a Peruvian immigrant,  told The Salt Lake Tribune.””I was praying, ‘If this baby works, I am going to help others.’ “
Navarro underwent 3-months of hormone shots before she could have an embryo fertilized by her daughter, a SkyWest flight attendant and son-in-law. Despite the 45% success odds given Navarro’s advanced age, the procedure work.
And in a few weeks, she’ll be delivering her own grandbaby.
This is not the first time this has happened.
Last year, a 53-year-old Iowa woman gave birth to her twin granddaughters. And in 2012, a 49-year-old woman in Maine gave birth to her grandson.

Rockmond Dunbar and wife Maya welcome daughter, Berkeley Seon

A belated congratulations to actor Rockmond Dunbar from The Mentalist on the birth of his daughter, Berkeley Seon.

Dunbar, known for his role in  the Showtime TV show Soul Food  and Prison Break  tweeted the news:

“Mom is doing great,” he tweeted on December 6. “We are absolutely in LOVE with our daughter.”

His wife, actress Maya Gilbert Dunbar stars in this season of Banshee on Cinemax. The couple got engaged in December 2012 and married in June 2013.

Back in October, Dunbar had to clear up with his Twitter followers that Maya had not yet given birth after they misinterpreted his “praise” tweet.

Last September, Dunbar’s co-stars (Vanessa Williams, Boris Kodjoe and spouse/co-star Nicole Ari Parker and Malinda Williams)  from the serial sitcom spun off the hit cult classic move Soul Food came out to help him celebrate the impending arrival at a baby shower for Maya.
