Grey’s Anatomy: The TV Cast With Most Adopted Kids

grey's cast

Of all the shows on television, we think the cast of Grey’s Anatomy has some of the most aware and generous parents who have opened up their hearts and homes to many children without parents or proper homes.  Several members of  Grey’s family are also wonderful about raising children of different background and parentage.

While we cannot say definitely if its cast and alums have adopted the most children, but we do know they’re up there in numbers.

For example, currently, we anxiously await the birth of Grey’s alum Katherine Heigl‘s first child. Meanwhile, she and her husband are parenting two beautiful adopted girls, Naleigh from South Korea (adopted in 2009) and Adalaide Marie Hope (adopted in 2012), a mixed-race child from a woman in Louisiana.

Heigl has an adopted sister, Meg, who was born in Korea.

“Josh and I started talking about [adoption] before we were even engaged,”  US Weekly quotes the Knocked Up  star telling Scholastic Parent & Child back in February. “[M]y parents adopted [Meg] three years before I was born. I wanted my own family to resemble the one I came from, so I always knew I wanted to adopt from Korea.”
True to form, Heigl’s soon-to-be-born son will have a similar experience of having older adopted siblings.
Not an adoptive parent, but her former Grey’s co-star Ellen Pompeo is also doing a wonderful job of raising her children of different race.

Pompeo is quoted recently stating that she surrounds her bi-racial daughters with images of empowered African American women.

Pompeo and her husband Chris Ivery are parents to daughters Stella, born September 2009, and Sienna May, born October 2014 via surrogate.

“My daughters are black so it’s very important to me that they see a lot of images of beautiful, powerful, strong black women,” Ellen shares. “Every time there is a black woman on a magazine cover, whether it is Kerry Washington or whoever it is, I make sure that magazine is in my house and on my table. For me, that’s super important.”

It’s also important for the girls to see the Obamas n the spotlight, she relayed.

“I feel really fortunate that they are growing up in a time [in which] the first president my daughter knows is Barack Obama,” Ellen said. “That’s an incredible gift.”

Um doesn’t Chris look a little low key like President Barack Obama tho?

Show producer and writer Shonda Rhimes also has adopted several children. She is solo-parenting and raising two adopted daughters on her own, Harper, Emerson and Beckett (whom she welcomed via a gestational surrogate) ages 13, 3 and 2, respectively.

Bravo!

Is Aoki Lee What Happens When a Celeb Child Grows Being Called Ugly by Public?

aoki lee and ming lee simmons

Ming Lee and Aoki Lee Simmons plant a kiss on their dad Russell Simmons.

Kimora Lee Simmons first two children, daughters Aoki Lee and  Ming Lee have grown to be beautiful young ladies, but having grown in the overly critical public eye has not been easy. This is especially true considering the overemphasis of beauty for young women and how mean the public can be. Social media has been a blessing and curse for celebrities.

On one hand, it gives them access to fans and helps them prove their brand relevance and importance by enabling them to quantify fans.  It can be used as a tool to keep them famous and relevant. On the other hand, social media make it too easy to get direct contact with people in the public eye and along with the good of being able to show off their  filter-free and authentic selves, celebs also open a window and let in all the insecure, petty, jealous and downright meanies who love to troll and diss them too.

And people do not stop when it comes to commenting on the beauty of a celebrity child.

For example, I was doing some online research recently and bumped into Aoki Lee’s Instagram page. I immediately noticed that she doesn’t ever show her face in any of her photos. Now it could be because she wants to de-emphasize her looks seeing as though she is a self-described historian and coder on her page.

It is a contrast from her sister Ming who is as statuesque as their mom and is perfectly fine flossing and showing off her fab self and her fab life that goes with on her Instagram.

We like to drink tea ☕️ A photo posted by Ming Lee Simmons (@mingleesimmons) on

But then I thought that perhaps Aoki hides her face to shield herself from all the negativity that litters the comment section under celebrity social media pages. It’s the type of stuff that has led many to quit social media.

I remember bumping into a lot of shady comments about Kimora’s daughters’ looks on the gossip blogs.

simmons

Thus, there is no wonder some celebs elect to hide their children’s faces from the public. You’ve never even ever seen Kerry Washington or Eva Mendes’ children… ever.

And as I moved over to Ming Lee’s photo, I see that one of the first comments on a really beautiful beach photo comes from a couple of girls calling her ugly and talking bad about her looks.  Most people however reply about her beauty in most of her posts.

And that is a shame that all we care about is the attractiveness of famous people.

#truth.com

It also explains why Beyonce famously shielded her daughter Blue Ivy‘s face when she shared photos of her during her infancy to toddler years. Zoe Saldana is yet to share a photo of her twin boys, Cy and Bowie,  either. Over the pond, singer and TV presenter Rochelle Humes features many snaps of her daughter on Instagram but none of her face.

And those who do like Tia Mowry and Solange Knowles have found themselves having to snap back and put mean trolls in their place who called both their sons ugly, as recently as last year.

Celeb parents can do what they can as long as they can to shield their kids from public scrutiny for as long as possible. It is essential considering the kids never asked for the spotlight. But…the minute they grow into their own and open up their own social media account, they”ll have to face it on their own.

And Aoki’s faceless Instagram page could be an example of one outcome.

12 Celebrity Women Who Didn’t Rush to Peel Off Pregnancy Weight

celeb post baby weight

clockwise: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Vanessa Simmons, P!nk, Christina Aguilera, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Reese Witherspoon, Shakira, Kerry Washington, Hilary Duff, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Jessica Simpson and Kristen Bell, all took their time to shed pregnancy weight gain.

There is tremendous pressure on women to get back to pre-pregnancy size after having a baby. Celebrities who make their living by looking a certain way are under even more pressure. Many succumb and take extreme measures to peel off the weight. We’ve heard rumors about post-C-section liposuction, stomach stapling and other tactics being used. It doesn’t help that many gossip magazines love to flaunt post-baby celebs on their covers, sort of tauntingly telling other women they should be able to do the same.

Then there are those who do not buckle to the same exceptions and take their time. Christina Aguilera embraced her post baby curves but then was slammed heavily by the public and critics who were used to seeing her 100 lb frame from when she first launched her music career a decade earlier. She eventually dropped most of the weight but still remained an advocate for women to take care of themselves first.

“Mothers are constantly expected to be the nurturers, the givers, the providers of a comfortable home,” she told  Women’s Health magazine. “We’re expected to be pregnant, have the kids, breastfeed once we have the babies. And we’re expected to look amazing after baby, right? Keep our husbands and boyfriends interested – because we’re supposed to get back to sexy and keep things exciting in the bedroom. There’s such a long list.”

The platinum-album selling powerhouse singer added that deprivation is not the thing.

“I’m not into deprivation; I’m not into suffering into getting a great body or the body that you want,” The Voice coach said. “I’m into enjoying life, being conscious and aware, but also breathing into yourself and owning what you got.”

It was not the first time she had to get active  and defend her weight.

Before she even became a mother, back in 2002, during the promotion of her album “Stripped” in 2002, she told Billboard magazine,” I got tired of being a skinny, white girl.”  She added after gaining 15 pounds and returning for a break browner and with piercings, the label lost it and told her if she didn’t lose the weight people, some people would be out of a job because she wouldn’t sell albums any longer. Aguilera buckled but later, older reclaimed her confidence and didn’t let them control her body any longer.

“I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl,” the Daily Mail reported her saying. ‘You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.’They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body…My body can’t put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore—my body is just not on the table that way anymore.”

Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt also didn’t rush to shed the baby weight. She acknowledged it takes a lot of time to recover after a baby.

“I’ve been doing Zumba, and I’ve worked it out so the baby’s been doing Zumba with me,” Hewitt told US Weekly in 2014. “We dance together, and I carry her as a weight so we’ve been having fun that way. The body takes about six months to fully come back so I haven’t wanted to injure myself so I’ve been swimming because it’s low impact on my system.”

Hilary Duff kept it real with her fans when she shared how tough she had it trying to get back into shape. “’20 minutes on the elliptical seems like an eternity!!! What the hell…’,she shared in a tweet.

Kristen Bell famously told Redbook magazine after giving birth to her first child, daughter Lincoln, in 2013.

“I’d like to get back down to where I was before the baby,” she said. “But if this is where my body wants to be, so be it. I’m not going to make myself miserable for the rest of my life trying to get back to where I was before.”

In 2011, Tisha Campbell-Martin opened up about working hard to unpeel 40 extra pounds she gained during her second pregnancy. Her post baby weight gain was actually worked into the plot while she was on My Wife & Kids.

In 2015, P!nk too had to call out social media critics of her weight gain. “I feel beautiful,” she clapped back at them. “So, my good and concerned peoples, please don’t worry about me (sic). I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you either. I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off.”

Last year, Kerry Washington also opened up about not rushing to get back to pre-baby size. “I’ve been really focused on not being ‘back’ to anything, but being the best version of myself right now,” she said in an issue of Self magazine. My body is the site of a miracle now. I don’t want to be pre-miracle.”

Jessica Simpson, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Reese Witherspoon and Vanessa Simmons all looked beautiful carrying the extra pounds and didn’t let the noisy body-shaming critics get to them. Bravo ladies! It’s wonderful to see influential women being healthy body role models.

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are Not the First to Hide a Birth from the Public for Weeks

goslings

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling pulled a Neve Campbell: totally hid the fact they had delivered a baby until discovered by prying paparazzi.

In 2012, Campbell was spotted by the paps playing with her baby 6 weeks after delivering her at a local park.

TMZ got a hold of the birth certificate for Mendes and Gosling’s second child, daughter, Amanda Lee Gosling. The new arrival was welcomed last month on April 29 at the St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California.

The extremely private couple did a great job of keeping the news secret.

The couple also have a two year old daughter named Esmerelda who has never been revealed to the public, or had her photo shared publicly.  She was born on Friday, September 12, 2014, but that news was discovered too after some news agency’s did some creative snooping.

It is common for celebs who spend their entire lives in the public eye to shield certain part of their lives from the press.

We’ve never ever seen Kerry Washington‘s daughter, Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha, either.

And in 2012, Dido only mentioned she had given birth to her first child with husband Rohan Gavin in December that year, months after actually delivering her son in the Summer.

Last month, reality TV star and swimsuit designer Draya Michele famously did not disclose she had given birth until after she released all of her maternity portraits via her Instagram account. She said she wanted a few moments with herself and the baby before letting the world know.

“I had him last week and I just wanted to take that time to enjoy him as my own little special gift,” she captioned a photo.

Besides those mentioned in this post, several celebs have successfully hidden a birth from the public and press until the media discovered it or they were ready to introduce the news on their own terms.

Kudos to them!

Hillary Clinton’s Got the ‘Celebrity Mom’ Vote for President

presidential candidate

Celebrities are voters to. Zimbio rounded up about 50+ celebrities and took into account their appearances, social media and other indications of their candidate of choice for the US Presidential election. Of their list, I spotted 6 out of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums. Here is who they’re voting for…

Kim Kardashian shared a selfie with her husband Kanye West and Clinton on Instagram, writing, “I got my selfie!!! I really loved hearing her speak & hearing her goals for our country! #HillaryForPresident.”

Kerry Washington‘s endorsement? It’s handled. Hillary Clinton stopped by the set of Scandal to visit supporter Washington, who shared this snap on Instagram with the caption: “A good friend came by set today. Proud to say… #imwithher.”

Salma Hayek “I have a lot of hope for Hillary,” Salma Hayek said in an interview with Vibe. “We need somebody with experience who can endure. And this woman has endured it all. Hillary is tough.”

Amy Poehler After spending years dressing up as Hillary Clinton on SNL, Amy Poehler appeared in a campaign video supporting the candidate.

Olivia Wilde “I think Hillary is a really exciting candidate for so many reasons but she has a lot to prove to a lot of people. And I think she’s up for that,” Wilde said in an interview with The Daily Beast. “I think she learned a lot from the last election, I think she’s done a tremendous amount of work since then. The fact that she feels the plight of women and girls as the most important issue of the 21st century is a huge reason why I’m supporting her.”

Tonight is the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, also known as “Nerd Prom. ”

It’s a time when DC hosts Hollywood A-Listers and journalists that cover the White House at the annual event thrown by the membership group of journalists and TV correspondents.

During the cocktails then dinner event, DC’s political elite mingle with Tinsel Town’s.

Traditionally, the President of the United States speaks and roasts the media, political allies and foes and blend in pop culture.

This will be President Barack Obama’s last Nerd Prom.

Celebrities come as guests of various news organizations.

Tickets are coveted and hard to get. I’ve never even ever bothered to try to network my way into an invite.

You practically have to pledge your first child.

This year, I noticed that frequent Nerd Prom goer Kerry Washington is a guest.

She posted a photo of herself inside the White House in front Hillary Clinton‘s First Lady portrait.

Also, noticed that our other Bumpwatch alum Tamera Mowry-Housely and family are also in town. I’m assuming she will be a guest of her husband, FOX News Correspondent Adam Housely.

So fun! The Housley’s at the #thewhitehouse ❤️

How TV Shows Hide Castmembers’ Pregnancies

6WalkingDead5.11

While watching the B-season of the AMC hit show The Walking Dead, my husband pointed to a scene with Alanna Masterson where lots of chairs and other objects were strategically placed in front of her belly. It made us chuckle.

We knew she was pregnant with her first child during filming and you could see a little bit of extra weight on her face and we noticed the costume designer kept her in this oversized grey sweatshirt for most of her scenes.

During a taping of The Talking Dead, the new mom talked about the strategy of hiding her bump. She was grateful for not blowing up so she could be hidden but hilariously describes waddling onto set at 9 months pregnant for filming. ha!

It reminded me of all those scenes during Scandal with the producers of that show trying to conceal Kerry Washington‘s pregnancy after it was decided to not write in a pregnancy in the script. It was the subject of many hilarious blog articles like this one by TV Guide!

3.11-purse-block

TV Over Mind did a round up of a few other scenes from various TV shows where the crew and directors had to be creative to conceal a main cast members’ pregnancy.

TheCruise-640x427

Alos, Cobie Smulders from How I Met Your Mother, her  character Robin was covered up with large clothing and scenes with her mainly  sitting at the bar drinking with her friends.

Her co-star Alyson Hannigan‘s pregnancy was hidden with things like basketballs and weight gain explained away by her entering a hot dog eating contest. Funny Stuff!
