Kensington Palace Release new Princess Charlotte Photos

charlotte

Kensington Palace today released new photos of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge that her mom Kate Middleton (Duchess Catherine) took recently.  In the photos, the adorable 6-months old is sitting in green and blue gingham upholstered chair and laughing at teddy bear in that same chair in another. Both photos were taken by mom.

“The Duke and Duchess hope everyone enjoys these new photos of Princess Charlotte as much as they do,” the Palace captioned the two photos tweeted this morning.

Very cute, though, personally, I’m still partial to her older brother, 2-year old Prince George. Maybe it’s a first born bonding thing or maybe because he has the same name of the county I live in, Prince George’s County, Maryland. ha!

This is the second time the Millennial royal couple broke with tradition and skipped the hiring of the official palace photographer. As with Charlotte and George’s first photos, her taken by mom and George’s (a family photo) taken by Middleton’s dad.

Could this Be the Most Popular Celebrity Baby Name This Year?

Whoa! These three favor one another but what does Kristin Cavallari, Liv Tyler and Bristol Palin have in common? All three have decided to name their newborns Sailor or a variation. Is this the new celebrity name trend?

On Tuesday, November 23, Cavallari and her husband Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler welcomed their third child and first girl, Saylor James Cutler.

Saylor James Cutler was born today at 132pm!! ??

A photo posted by Kristin Cavallari (@kristincavallari) on

Not long after, reality TV star and daughter to former US VP Presidential candidate and Alaska governor Sarah Palin, came forward to announce that she had already selected that name for her daughter before Cavallari gave birth.

“When you find out @kristincavallari named her baby the exact name you are naming yours ?? what a weird coincidence .. congrats on your new bundle, and I do love her name,” the ex Dancing With The Stars Contestant captioned a photo of a personalized onesie with an alternative version of Cavallari’s daughter’s name: Sailor.. “Still naming my baby girl Sailor!”

Well Liv Tyler beat them both to the punch when she named her second child, Sailor Gene Gardner.

And actually, model Christie Brinkley beat them all when she named her son Sailor in 1998! Ha!

We wonder who will hop on the trend next? It’s the new “Monroe“.

Almost 9-Months Preggers Coco Austin Addresses Critics of her Very Small Baby Bump

coco austin blog

Mom-to-be Coco Austin took to her blog on E!Online to address her incredibly small baby bump.

Even though the talk show co-host of IceT and Coco on FOX is expecting her first child with her rapper turned actor husband, she barely had much of a belly most pregnancy and it was the subject of much online chatter.

“I almost feel like I kind of got gypped a little because women start seeing something of a baby bump at four to five months,” the Ice Love Coco reality TV alum writes. “I didn’t see anything until eight months. I was kinda feeling gypped in a way because when you’re pregnant, you want a bump.”

As the fitness enthusiasts prepares for the birth of her baby girl named Chanel, she confessed that she wished she had a bigger pregnancy bump.

“I know I’m in great shape, but I want to feel pregnant also,” Austin writes. “Finally, something is out! She’s finally showing herself and I’m loving every moment. I’m actually telling people that no doubt, I could be pregnant for the rest of my life.”

Austin, who is close to term and just reached 34 weeks gestation,  says she feels grateful for having a smooth pregnancy, yet felt compelled to respond to the critics of her bump.

“The thing is I constantly ask my doctor, ‘Am I healthy? Is the baby healthy? What is going on? Have you seen this before?’ she states in her blog post. “My doctor says yes, athletes look like this all the time because they have such strong abs muscles that it takes longer for a bump to pop out,” adding, “my doctors said they just delivered a figure skater’s baby and she was smaller than me and she squeezed that baby out in nearly three tries because her abs were so strong.”

She also said she will stop addressing the public when her doctor assures her that all is well.

“I’m trying to always prove a point to those people who are doubting me,” she writes. “I’m not going to try and prove a point anymore. You’re going to believe what you want. My whole life I’ve faced rumors like ‘You can’t have that butt, it must be implants’ or ‘your waist is so small, you must have had a rib taken out.’ Everything that I do is unbelievable.”

It’s the price of fame, she acknowledges.

“I just happen to be in the limelight and people want to pick on me,” Austin concludes her post. “There are other women going through the same thing as me.”

Very true! Hang in there, mama!

Evangeline Lilly Trending for Her Post-Birthing Baby Bikini Bod Annoyed a Few People

evangeline lilly ant-man http://bellyitchblog.com

Lost alum Evangeline Lilly was trending all day today because of an E!Online report announcing the now mom-to-2 was spotted on a beach wearing a bikini two months after giving birth to her second child in Hawaii.

Backtrack, Lilly is great about not announcing her pregnancies. It wasn’t until she was 8 months along before a wayward member of the paparazzi spotted her in Hawaii where she lives often with her longtime partner Hawaii born Norman Kali, a production assistant she met on the Lost set.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies star announced the second pregnancy by showing up this summer to the red carpet for her movie Ant-Man‘s première.  She was already 7 months pregnant.

And even now, the Canadian-born managed to avoid the press for two months after giving birth, having not released a statement about the birth of her second child at all. If it wasn’t for the papps again, we’d still not know she had the kid.  Lily and Kali are parents to 4-year old son Kahekili Kali.

The fact the news of the bikini was the reason she trended upset some in social media and the blogsphere. We’ve discussed often on Bellyitch before how pop culture and gossip media’s obsession with the post-body celebrity can be dangerous for the message it sends to current and future new moms, and to society in general.

Blogger Jenny Rapson of  Mommin It Up vented on For Every Mom today:

“I understand celebrities are newsworthy, and I am not saying a celebrity having a child isn’t news,” Rapson penned. “I am perturbed at the PRESS for making this NEWS.”

She then went on to highlight three things why this actress’ body being newsworthy upset her:

“And herein lies my issue: why is this news? Why the excitement about a beautiful mom showing some skin after having a baby? Is it because…

  • GASP! Women’s bodies are certainly ruined by children and they should never show them!
  • OH THANK GOD SHE NOW LOOKS PERFECT—AS IF SHE NEVER HAD A BABY! PRAISE JESUS SHE ESCAPED HER TERRIBLE MOM BOD FATE AND CAN
  • WALK AROUND IN PUBLIC WITHOUT PEOPLE RUNNING AWAY SCREAMING!

See, Moms? You can look hot after having a baby! You can achieve the ultimate goal of beauty in life AND be a mom, too. Now hit the gym!”

Well, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

And Rapson wasn’t the only one. Here are some of the reactions we captured of folks in social media .

Returning to Work after a Baby: 8 Empowerment Tips

Women need to take charge of their own success and chart their own advancement in the workplace especially women re-entering the workforce after having children.

“No one is going to hand you a huge raise each year just because you show up and wait patiently for your reward,” says Kathy Harris, managing director of Harris Allied, which specializes in recruiting technology professionals. “Likewise, women who are reentering the workforce after a hiatus need to advocate for themselves at the onset of their job search. It’s their responsibility to be clear about what they need from their new position – such as flexible hours or telecommuting – and they need to be prepared to speak about the value they bring to the company, team and role.

A woman interviewing today, especially following a hiatus, needs to present herself as relevant and accomplished. That way, no one is left surprised or disappointed by the outcome, Harris adds.

But it’s understandable why many women might feel uncertain when they are about to jump back into the game – both about the value they bring to an organization and what they can legitimately ask of their prospective employer, Harris explains. “They don’t always know what the company will expect from them or how they will manage their new workload. Plus, technology changes so quickly that many women are concerned that their technical skills are a little rusty after being out of the loop for a few years.”

Harris offers the following suggestions to women who are looking to reenter the workforce to ensure a good fit:

  1. Bring your skills up to speed before you start interviewing and share what you know. If you are a developer, read about current and emerging technologies. Get a GitHub account so you can see what people are working on; post samples of your code and use that online resource to get current on what’s out there. Stack Overflow accounts are also helpful – job seekers can pose and answer questions, so join the conversation. You can include a link to these sites or to your online portfolio from your resume so employers can readily check out the quality of your work.
  2. Make sure your compensation expectations are aligned with the role. Many job postings have salary budgets posted. Make sure the compensation budgeted for the role is in line with your expectations before you apply and start the interview process. Check the employer’s website for information about work life and other benefits. Speak with your recruiter about your compensation requirements and confirm they are accurate for the market and industry.

  3. Be prepared to discuss the gap in your resume. It’s important to be able to speak to your time away from the workplace without apologizing. Let your future employer know that you and your family made the decision for you to stay home consciously and with a plan to return to work when the time was right.

  4. Include specific accomplishments from previous roles in your resume. Consider your achievements, honors and major projects that you delivered. Include these on your LinkedIn profile as well as on your resume.

  5. Look at all considerations that impact how much time you will spend at work including commute, evening events, client dinners and travel. Be sure to ask about outside work events during the interview process.

  6. Be honest with prospective employers about what work-life balance you are trying to achieve. But also be honest with yourself – know what is going to make you and your family comfortable in the long term. Be prepared in advance to have a backup plan for childcare if your babysitter gets sick, for example. Ask your employer about the kinds of hours the position requires. Ask about the work culture. Don’t be afraid to work hard, but be honest with yourself about the kind of scenario that will really work for you.

  7. Talk honestly with your recruiter. Ask them the tough questions and be forthcoming about any concerns or restrictions you have. They want both you and the client to be happy and for you to be successful in the role. It’s important to make sure your expectations are aligned with the prospective employer’s.

  8. Forge relationships with other women. Even if there are no or few other women in your actual department (that is especially true in IT departments), seek out other women in the company. They might be in the HR or communications departments, for example. They could become your best ally at work.

“Women who are returning to the workplace need to be able to compete in the market in order to win a great job. By being prepared with the right skills and support systems, you will limit the surprises and manage everyone’s expectations to ensure a smooth re-entry into the workforce,” says Harris.

In Lieu of A Columbus Day Post, Here are 3 Celeb Moms with Native American Heritage

native american celebrity

In lieu of a Columbus Day Post, we’re sharing tidbits of 3 Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums who have Native American heritage. It is also Thanksgiving in Canada today and they too are celebrating the indigenous people who lived there before European settlers arrived.

Did you know….

Angelina Jolie‘s mother, the late Marcheline Bertrand, claimed Native American ancestry. She and her partner, Native American activist and poet John Trudell, founded the All Tribes Foundation to benefit Native Americans.

Jessica Biel’s mother’s family is part Native American.

A feature in Vogue in 2010 read “those crazy-high cheekbones are shared by her younger brother, mother, and grandmother. When she tells me that her parents dehydrate their own food, culture their own vegetables, and make their own coconut kefir, I can’t help laughing. ‘I actually do, too’” she says.”

Cree Summer  grew up on the Red Pheasant Reserve in Saskatchewan. Her dad Don Franks, a Canadian musician and her mom Lili Red Eagle, an African American from Cali raised Summer on a reservation and she is an adopted member of the Plains Cree First Nations.

Is Ivanka Trump Answering the Parenting Nazis in her Third Baby Pregnancy Announcement?

ivanka trump bellyitchblog.com

Congratulations to Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner who are expecting their third child

She announced the news on her social media accounts and her blog.

“Arabella and Joseph are both incredibly excited to have a new sibling on the way (of course, Arabella desperately wants a baby girl, and Joseph hopes it’s a boy!), and I wanted them to join me in making the announcement,” she writes referring to the cute photo and  pregnancy announcement video she shared on her Facebook page.

I couldn’t help but notice that she sort of addresses criticism from the past about her announcement that she would return to work two weeks after having her first child.

“I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have a career that I am deeply passionate about, but, at the end of the day, it’s my family that is at the center of my life—and to be adding another baby to our family is a tremendous blessing.” she also wrote on the post. “Jared and I are so thankful, and so excited!”

She also preëmptively explains why she told Joseph in the video outtakes that she’d give him a lollipop if he stays still right after shoot.

“I usually try to feed my kids healthy food, but I gave Joseph his first lollipop ever in exchange for his best behavior. It’s the mommy trick we all say we’ll never do, but when you have multiple children, it’s pretty hard to be above it—it just works too well!!

The parenting Nazis would be out in force dissecting her every move and criticizing the rewarding of sugar for good behavior. When you are a public figure, there is little room to be human, apparently. It comes with the territory.

No need to explain yourself, mama.

Congrats on baby number 3 from the staff at Bellyitch!

For the #VMA’s, Dove Reminds Women to #SpeakBeautiful About Other Women

speak beautiful

Tomorrow is the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) and in an effort to combat all the negativity shared by and between young girls and women in social media, Dove wants to shift the dialogue from all the recent controversial headlines related to Miley vs. Nicki, Nicki vs. Taylor, Taylor vs. Katy, or any combination of the three.

They recognize that loads of real girls and even celebs like P!nk and Selena Gomez have recently been the victims of social media attacks based on their looks alone.

During the VMAs this weekend, Dove is encouraging women and girls to #SpeakBeautiful when posting comments about other women on Twitter.  The #SpeakBeautiful campaign launched earlier this year on Oscar night and we’re taking it to the next big event, the VMAs, to help change the social media conversation that affects our self-esteem.

In fact, we know 8 out of 10 women encounter negativity on social media that is hurtful/destructive to their self-esteem and it’s time for a change.

Since it launched the campaign, Dove states it has seen  69% more positive Tweets pertaining to how women talk about their own appearance, versus the previous year.

Tomorrow, @Dove on Twitter plans to monitor the language said about women by other women.

Join in and Be Kind.

12 Books to Help Kids Get Ready for School

12 books

As children head back to school, smaller kids heading to Kindergarten for the first time may be feeling anxiety. To get them ready for the moment, consider reading one or more of these books. They are heartwarming tales about little ones who are nervous about going to school for the first time but who overcome their fears.

cupcake-jones1

One of my faves is Princess Cupcake Jones Won’t Go to School by Ylleya Fields and illustrated by Michael LaDuca.

It is a very nice storybook tale about a young princess who comes up with a laundry list of tricks to avoid going to school the first day.

None work, but by the end she realizes quickly that school wouldn’t be bad after all. The illustrations are modern and colorful and bring Fields story to life. Personally, it reminds me of my 7-year old daughter who had to start a new school mid year recently and was also nervous about doing so.

Like Cupcake Jones in this book, my daughter too made friends on the first day and quickly adapted.

Here are eleven other books to consider nabbing for your kids or gifting to a child you know in your life who is heading to school for the first time this year:
