Hurricane Matthew Could Cause You to Go Into Labor

could-hurricane-matthew-make-you-go-into-labor-fit-pregnancy-and-baby

If you are one of the many women in the eye of Hurricane Matthew and are expecting any day now, be careful because there are high probability that the natural disaster could come during a natural disaster.

A 1985 study  found that low barometric pressure common during storms causes premature membrane rupture.  Another study published in Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics back in 2007 stated that low barometric pressure (which is a hallmark of hurricanes) can lead to spontaneous delivery.

There have been plenty of women have gone into labor during blizzards, disastrous floods and yes, even hurricanes. Fit Pregnancy did a feature in the past on a nurse who delivered babies during Hurricane Sandy a few years back.

Having a baby during a black out, relying on the back up generator and in the middle of an evacuation can be scary!

The site also has a pretty interesting video of women who actually delivered in the middle of storms! Their stories are captivating and fortunately, all the ones featured had happy endings! Watch them Here!

Boost Your Baby’s Brain with these A-Z Tips

A Is for Attention

New research into how babies learn reveals that the everyday, loving interaction with caregivers is what matters most. The best thing you can do for your baby’s growing brain is to respond to him, says Fit Pregnancy and Baby advisor Claire Lerner, L.C.S.W., director of parenting resources atZero to Three, in Washington, D.C. Let him know that when he cries, you will comfort him; when he’s ready to play, you will engage him.

B Is for Breast Milk

It’s powerful stuff. Brain imaging studies by Brown University, in Providence, found that kids who were breastfed exclusively for at least three months had 20 to 30 percent more white matter—a type of brain tissue that’s rich in myelin, a fatty substance that insulates nerve fibers and speeds up the brain’s electrical signals.

C Is for Calming

“Helping your infant feel secure calms the brain,” says Lerner. Even if your infant continues to cry when you hold him, your touch and response helps soothe his nervous system and prevents the stress hormone cortisol from interfering with development.

D Is for Doubling

Your baby’s brain doubles in size the first year; the cerebellum, an area at the back of the brain that controls coordination and balance, triples in size. This is believed to be related to the amount of motor skills babies learn by 12 months.

Molly Sims covers ‘Fit Pregnancy’ Again, gives 2nd pregnancy insights

Actress, model and author Molly Sims covers the February edition of Fit Pregnancy.  She also covered the mag in 2012 when she was pregnant with her 2-year old son Brooks.
The mom-to-be gave some great insight to the life of the 2nd time pregnant woman in her cover interview.
She shared how this pregnancy has been easier even though she said she had morning sickness all day this round and only in the evening with her first.
The author of the new Amazon bestelling book, Everyday SupermodelMy Beauty, Fashion, and Wellness Secrets Made Simplesaid she has learned “not to freak out over every single symptom,” and to be more practical, adding “now I know exactly how many onesies I need when the baby arrives. I don’t have the anxiety of being a first-time mom. Moreover, I know to wear my Spanx tights when I go out, and my T.E.D. compression hose when I fly to prevent blood clots.”
She also realized that being too hung up on wanting to realize a baby plan is not realistic.
“First, I had a velamentous cord insertion [when the umbilical cord inserts into the fetal membranes rather than the middle of the placenta, causing a higher risk of rupture],” said Sims, who is married to hubby Scott Stuber. “The doctor monitored me closely throughout the pregnancy, and I had a scheduled C-section to protect the cord, which was necessary, but disappointing. This time, I don’t have the same condition, so I’m not opposed to a VBAC [vaginal birth after Cesarean].”
Imperfect can be perfect.

Kelly Rowland is not the first celebrity to work out intensely while pregnant

Just saw on The Wendy Williams Show mention that Kelly Rowland is apparently catching a lot of flak from fans on the Internet over her Instagram pics showing that the Destiny’s Child band member and chart topping solo artist has been having an active pregnancy which includes working out regularly.

Unfortunately, many of her critics must be unaware that maintaining an active lifestyle including regular exercise is actually recommended by doctors so long as it is done in moderation, is balanced with hydration and a healthy diet and is keeping with the type of activity the mom-to-be had before she got pregnant. In other words, inactive cubicle hermits shouldn’t be doing what she is doing to stay fit while pregnant but a globe-trotting performer who dances regularly can. Furthermore,  she is not the only physically active and currently pregnant celebrity. MTV’s Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, who is expecting her second child currently with fiance Jionni LaValle,  frequenlty shares photos from the gym during this second pregnancy.
Also,  former WWE wrestler Stacy Keibler, who also known for being the long time ex girlfriend of George Clooney has been on several fitness magazines and done many interviews where she shares all of her work out secrets. She does Pilates 4 times a day and for the “Making of” video for her Fit Pregnancy cover shoot, she explained that she has been working out most days of her pregnancy doing  muscle toning work outs sometimes four times a day, playing tennis, hiking, golfing and meditating. Her trainer noted  in that Daily Mail article that said Keibler doesn’t eat junk food and eats clean. During her recent baby shower, hosts provided guests healthy  sugar-, dairy- and gluten-free foods. Again, it’s all about the type of woman she was before pregnancy. It doesn’t change after pregnancy and  just because you didn’t used to see it in social media doesn’t mean Rowland wasn’t a work out fiend before.
Other celebrities like Married to Jonas star  Danielle Jonas, who recently welcomed her first child with husband Kevin Jonas, Instagrammed themselves working out often during their respective pregnancies and didn’t seem to get much push-back.
Alec Baldwin‘s Pilates Instructor wife Hilaria Baldwin,  Kristin Cavallari, Teresa Palmer and international model Doutzen Kroes all Instagrammed themselves working out during their pregnancies. (see above collage)

We are very proud of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums Ivanka Trump, Daphne Oz, Kristin Cavallari, Danielle Jonas, Emily Deschanel, Molly Sims for their Fit Pregnancy  magazine covers and hope to see one of Kelly soon!

The Chew’s Daphne Oz dishes to Wendy Williams, says dad Dr.Oz won’t be in delivery room

Can we adopt The Chew TV hostess Daphne Oz as our celebrity pregnancy spokes model?
The mom-to-be whose dad is famed TV doc Dr. Oz visited The Wendy Williams show on January 22 and dished on her pregnancy. Daphne and her investment banker husband since 2010 John Jovanovic  are expecting their first baby on March 6.
Daphne was featured on the cover of the latest issue of Fit Pregnancy  magazine and it is fitting as she has a healthy approach to unloading the post-pregnancy weight.
“First of all, I didn’t start off a size 2 so I’m not trying to get back there,” the down-to-earth blond said after revealing she struggled with her weight her entire life. “I also kind of feel like it took me 9 months to get here, I put on like 30 lbs, it’s going to take 9 months to get back there.”
Kudos!
“I’m not rushing there,” she added. “My most important thing is to keep my nutrition strong,so I want to breastfeed, so I want my baby to get everything, I’m not going on a diet route.”
We also love her healthy approach to sensuality. When Wendy pried as she does so well and inquired about Daphne Oz’s sex life, she opened up about how pregnancy actually liberated her from issues she had growing up.
Like many women, she said she had body image issues and never felt comfortable in her clothes and skin but being pregnant “you own every bit of it.”
She added, “that’s the most attractive quality, I mean I think pregnancy is sexy anyway, but I think that you can own your self-confidence, that’s the biggest thing,”
Oz has 6 weeks left and is due March 6. She said she is getting the ultimate “push” present and doesn’t know the gender of her baby. She also told Wendy that her dad will NOT be in the delivery room but her mom and husband will.
Check out the video of the appearance below:
