Lauren London’s Partner Nipsey Hussle Killed Shortly After Outing Their Longtime Romance

Sad news for one of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums, Lauren London. Her longtime boyfriend, Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle (real name Ermias Asghedom) was tragically shot and killed outside his clothing store in the Los Angeles California Crenshaw neighborhood yesterday, March 31.

He was only 33 years old and is dad to London’s 2-year old son Kross. She has a 9-year old son named Kameron with rapper Lil Wayne.

Since the murder, several people and including many celebrities have shared their words of condolences and paid respects to Ashedom who started as a dealer to survive his rough neighborhood but eventually opened a co-working space, and planned to revitalize a local mall and community after gaining fame in the entertainment industry.

The shooting came a day before Hussle was scheduled to meet with LAPD Chief Michel Moore and Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff “to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids,” Soboroff said.

Police are looking for the suspects and have described at least one as someone in his circles, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The couple have kept their romance under raps for 6 years but last year opened up in a GQ magazine feature and a shooting of the magazine’s popular The Couples Quiz vid.

April Fool’s Day: Why You Shouldn’t Do the Fake Pregnancy Test Prank

Today is April 1, also known as April Fools’ Day, a day which traditionally involved people playing pranks on one another, dating back before the 1800s.

Jokesters have gotten bolder and more brazen with their tricks and a few have taken things too far, and so far that people have actually gotten hurt, physically, emotionally and mentally from jokes.

There are tons of harmless pranks to play: switching out salt with sugar at the coffee station, putting a whoopee cushion in someone’s chair, rapping on someone’s door and disappearing before they open it. Silly stuff like that, but there are others that should be avoided because they can be triggering.

One common prank is telling other people that you’re pregnant, or that your girlfriend/wife/friend is pregnant with your child.

That is not a good one to pull because it is insensitive to thousands, if not millions, of couples out there are are trying to actually get pregnant but cannot.

Briefly, they may be happy for your news, wish it was them, think about their own struggles, and possible losses, and go through a roller coaster of thoughts and emotions at their expense….only to learn later you were joking! Ugh!

It has been done before casually and aloofly without forethought to this very large group of people in the TTC (Trying to Conceive) community!

Carry on!

Happy UK Mother’s Day {How it Differ’s from America’s}

Happy Mother’s Day to the UK moms, family, friends and followers today!

In United States and many parts of the world celebrate Mother’s day annually on the second Sunday in May each year.

However, in the United Kingdom, their version of the holiday, called “Mothering Sunday” is linked to the Christian Lenten calendar and is acknowledged on the fourth Sunday during the period of Lent, when people typically give up things like certain foods or bad habits for the days leading up to Easter.

And because Easter is linked to the lunar calendar which changes every year, UK’s Mother’s day changes annually too!

Mothering Sunday is a celebration held to honor mothers and maternal figures.

The day has evolved into an occasion for kids to honor and give presents to their hardworking moms.

In America, Anna Jarvis, campaigned for a May date in memory of her own mom – who had died that month, which was formally adopted by President Wilson in 1914.

Many other countries have since adopted America’s date.

10 Unique Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

Easter is around the corner. If you are in the hunt for new or different ways to have fun with the kids on Easter weekend, here are 10 unique and innovative ideas compliments of SheKnows:

1. Easter bunny tracks

A full-blown Easter egg hunt guided by the Easter Bunny himself? Surely there could be nothing more adorable. The kids will love waking up on Easter morning to find that the Easter Bunny has left them a personalized note and a few bunny tracks pointing them in the direction of the hidden eggs. These cute printables make setting up the bunny track hunt a breeze.

2. Easter egg garden

For very young children, this is as cute as it comes. If they’re too little to hunt well in the yard, you can make your own Easter egg garden that “grows” plastic eggs instead. Placing candy-filled Easter egg flowers in the grass or sand will make it easy for even the littlest ones to find their treats.

3. Indoor egg hunt

If you live in a part of the country where spring hasn’t sprung yet, all hope is not lost. You can turn a cold or rainy Easter day into an adventure when you tell your kids that they’re going to hunt for all their eggs and Easter trinkets inside the house. To make the indoor egg hunt even more unique, try hiding the eggs in a trail or with clues leading to one giant Easter basket.

4. Golden egg hunt

Little mateys at that pirate-loving age will get a kick out of this specialized Easter egg hunt. When kids know there is “buried treasure” involved — like a one-of-a-kind golden egg left behind by the Easter Bunny — they’re likely to take the hunt a little more seriously. Bonus points for putting some booty (read: money) inside or attached to the golden egg.

5. Letter hunt

Learning can be fun, right? For younger kids who are just learning to spell and read, they’ll enjoy hunting for Easter eggs that each contain a letter to spell out a hidden message. Kids can work together to find the letter-filled eggs and put together the Easter message (“Some bunny loves you,” for example) to earn their Easter prize.

6. Easter egg decoder

This is a great one for a larger group, since kids will need to be broken up into teams. Teams of three or four can hunt to find as many mismatched eggs as they can (where the wrong-colored halves of plastic eggs have been put together). Once the eggs have been found, teams can take apart and reassemble the right-colored halves of the eggs. The first team to “unscramble” their mismatched eggs gets a big, ol’ Easter basket filled with candy.

7. Kid-guided hunt

For any kid who loves to pull a fast one on their parents, they’ll be thrilled to be put in charge of the Easter egg hunt for the day. Ask your kids to hide a basket of candy-filled eggs around the yard and watch as you try your best to find them. Any eggs that aren’t found within a certain time limit — say, 10 minutes — the kids get to keep and eat.

8. Scavenger list

This one’s for elementary school and older kids who are looking for a little challenge: Make over your traditional Easter egg hunt using a scavenger hunt checklist. You can task kids with finding a variety of different objects hidden around the yard (like four blue eggs, six yellow eggs, two chocolate eggs and a chocolate Easter bunny) before time is up.

9. Exercise scavenger hunt

Kids have a lot of energy to burn — we know this much is true. So, if your kiddos have been begging for Easter candy all day long, why not make them work for it? Hide sports-themed Easter eggs that contain an exercise instruction along with a candy treat. Kids will have to do 10 jumping jacks, run a lap around the yard or jog in place before they can move on to the candy in the next egg.

10. Glow-in-the-dark hunt

This one might require a little patience, but it is so worth the wait. If you can get your kids to hold off on their Easter candy extravaganza for most of the day, then the reward will be even sweeter — an Easter egg hunt to find glow-in-the-dark eggs is perfect for older kids looking for a thrill.

11. Easter egg piñata

Or how about you forgo the logistics of an egg hunt altogether and just hit some stuff with a stick? Buying an adorable Easter egg piñata — or making your own — is ideal for smaller kids who may not understand how to hunt for eggs yet, as well as older kids who just want to do something different this year. To make things even more interesting, try your hand at mini piñatas so you can make a special candy-filled creation for each kid (to destroy).

Rethinking What We Know About Baby’s First Foods

Tanaphong Toochinda

Introducing your baby to solid foods is a daunting task.

It’s hard to know if you’re getting the right advice from well-meaning family, your mommy group – or Google.

According to Amy Shapiro, Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist and advisor to Fresh Bellies , the first-ever savory kid product for palate training, parents should be aware of 5 common misconceptions when they start solids:

#1 YOU NEED TO START WITH BLAND FOODS

For most parents, spices are out, and fruits are first for babies. Instead, first foods should teach young palates to learn to love savory food. Many typical pre-made baby foods add sugar, which changes baby’s taste profile to crave sweet. Go for unmasked veggies seasoned with herbs and spices (yes garlic!).

#2 YOUR BABY MUST WAIT UNTIL MONTH 6

There’s no set rule around baby’s first solid foods – it really depends on your baby. It’s totally okay to start at month 4 or even start all the way up to month 8.

#3 NUTS ARE A NO GO

No need to avoid nuts. In fact, the earlier you introduce your kids, in pureed form, (as long as there is no family history of nut allergy), the less risk they have of developing these and other types of allergies. Introduce them at around 6 months.

#4 BABY’S FIRST MEATBALLS?

Early on, your child does not yet have the enzymes necessary to digest meats. Always start with veggies, and avoid those chicken nuggets for now.

#5 CLEAN YOUR PLATE

Worried your child isn’t eating enough? Don’t. Let your kid tell you when they are finished with their meal.If you teach them to ignore their natural “full” tendency, they will have trouble self-regulating their eating portions for the rest of their lives.

Hope this helps you mamas out there!

Revisit Aoki Lee Who Got Into Harvard On Her Own, Really!

Back in 2016, I did a post about Aoki Lee, the youngest daughter of Kimora Lee Simmons and Russell Simmons commenting on how she rarely shows images of her face on her Instagram page compared to her sister, one year old, Ming Lee who is fine flossing and stunting on the gram…like their mom!

My intent was not for the post to be a take down but a social commentary on the reason I think she did hide her face: to shield herself from the ever present scrutiny of members of the public who cannot help themselves but comment on her beauty.

I wrote about good and bad in the incredible amount of new access fans have of celebrities in the age of social media:

On one hand, it gives them access to fans and helps them prove their brand relevance and importance by enabling them to quantify fans.  It can be used as a tool to keep them famous and relevant. On the other hand, social media make it too easy to get direct contact with people in the public eye and along with the good of being able to show off their  filter-free and authentic selves, celebs also open a window and let in all the insecure, petty, jealous and downright meanies who love to troll and diss them too.

The post got a tremendous amount of traffic after is published and for years after and I did not understand why. A year or so ago, I realized it is because of the headline and people are using “ugly” in searches for Aoki and coming up with mine. The headline is insensitive and a bit mean: “IS AOKI LEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CELEB CHILD GROWS BEING CALLED UGLY BY PUBLIC?”

I apologize for this headline and the spin which I now think is a bit harsh, overly critical and the wrong tone.

We can grow.

But last year, she did acknowledge her insecurities I wrote about in an Instagram story:

“Ok guys so! I’m you’ve noticed I’ve been posting a lot more this summer! I used to be very picky about pictures and not really show my face, and would often not post pictures of cool events or important moments because I didn’t like my smile or I was standing next to my beautiful sister (laughing emoji) it’s easy to get insecure when your older sister and mom are models (laughing emoji) and I’ve dealt with a lot of negativity on Instagram, comments saying I’m not as pretty as my big sister (who is the best by the way)z We all want to look nice in our photos but I’ve tried to let all of that go and just post pictures were I look happy or was actually having a good time. I try not to worry who I’m standing next to and just share good moments with you guys”

And now the 16 year old is off to Harvard! She shared an Instagram video with the news that she got accepted even though she still has a full year of school left.

From Page Six:

“She’s on her way to #Harvard!! We are sooo super proud of YOU!! Such hard work and only 16,” Kimora added. “You did it! It took years of super dedication and lots of tears! But HERE YOU ARE!!! GO GIRL!!! Enjoy the journey! We are excited to see the great things you will do! Sorry I’m one of those SUPERLOUD MAMAS! She also got into Dartmouth, Vassar, Barnard etc!”

Aoki Lee, whose father is Russell Simmonsposted a similar video of her acceptance news.

In the video, Aoki’s stepfather, Tim Leissner, is standing next to her.

She also quoted her mother saying she told her, “Thank god you got in on your own honey cause you can’t row.”

Russell also had a few choice words, adding, “So blessed @aokileesimmons made it into HARVARD and Kimora Myself or Tim didn’t have to pull any strings or pay anyone to get her in  she made it on her own academic merit.”

Just last year, Kimora graduated from the University of Hartford with a business degree.

Aoki will join Harvard’s Class of 2023.

Parents Regret Baby Name Choice After A Celebrity Picks It Too

People who give their babies names that are later picked by celebs are smacking their foreheads!

A recent study of 2,000 parents found one in five began to dislike their choice after the name rose in popularity, while almost one in ten were annoyed after a celebrity chose the same name for their toddler.

SJ Strum, baby names expert from ChannelMum.com, who carried out the study, said: “Picking your baby name is one of the most important parts of becoming a parent – and it’s also something which everyone from friends and family to total strangers has an opinion on.

“Celebrity trends mean there are an ever-growing list of baby names to choose from, but this also means more opportunities to choose a name which you, or your child, then learn to loathe.”

According to the British website, here are some of the names celebrities have given their children which regular parents now despise:

1. Bear (Alicia Silverstone)

2. Harper (David and Victoria Beckham)

3. Shiloh (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie)

4. Mason (Kourtney Kardashian)

5. Penelope (Kourtney Kardashian)

6. Eric (Simon Cowell)

7. Luna (John Legend and Chrissy Teigen)

8. Willow (Pink)

9. Miles (John Legend and Chrissy Teigen)

10. Louis (Prince William and Kate Middleton)

11. George (Prince William and Kate Middleton)

12. Charlotte (Prince William and Kate Middleton)
