St. Patrick’s Day: How to hide your early pregnancy from friends while out

Bellyitch Rewind

If you are newly preggers but haven’t leaked the news to colleagues, acquaintances and friends yet because it’s still quite early, hiding it from pals at a Saint Patrick’s Day outing this Tuesday may be tough If you can’t come up with an excuse to skip it because up until now you’ve been known in your circles as the group lush, here are some things you can do to maybe head off curious looks and questions:

DRESS:  Stick with A-line tops or dresses or empire waist tops to conceal any bump that may have emerged. Whatever you do, just say no to the new crop top trend this round! mmmkay?

DRINKS: Order a coke or other dark drink at the bar away from everyone so no one knows you’re not consuming alcohol.  They may assume there’s liquor in that glass. Nurse your drink so you get to pass when someone orders another round for the group. You don’t want to waste good liquor having to place it discreetly on the bar and switch it for a nearby empty glass. But hey, you do what you have to do.
If everyone’s going out for beer, you cannot go wrong with carrying your own bottle of O’Doul’s or some other non-alcoholic beer in an oversized handbag and pouring that in an emptied glass when no one’s looking.
NAUSEA AND VOMITTING:  Fortunately, if you have to hurl in the bathroom, and you’re at a pub, you may have plenty of company among other too inebriated light weights in there doing the same. ha! No one will suspect it’s you in the toilet hurling or they may think you had one too many! For once, being considered to be the too drunk girl in the room has its benefits.

Have Fun and Good Luck keeping your baby-baking secret concealed!!!

50 Cent’s 2-year old son Sire lands $700,000 modeling contract

So Nori West, Blue Ivy, Kingston Rossdale and Harper Beckham aren’t the only children of a celebrity fielding modeling contract gigs.
Sire Jackson, the two-year old son of rapper and business mogul 50 Cent, just landed a $700,000 contract to be the spokesperson for Kidz Safe, a company that designs headphones for children.
50 revealed the news during a March 4 interview with NYC’s Power 105.1 radio.

“It’s an audio company; they paid him a big payment too,” the rapper, born Curtis Jackson, said. “I was getting ready to say, ‘This is your college fund,’ but I gotta handle that part and let him just have that.”
It’s been pointed out that the company that owns Kidz Safe is SMS Audio, and 50 is majority owner of that company but it’s still cool.
Last week, Sire walked in the Los Angeles, California show of Isabella Couture  on March 10 but he froze at the top of the runway. His ex model mom Daphne Joy came to the rescue.
“My son got cold feet at the last minute so mommy had to walk him,” Joy reported to her Instagram followers after the show. “He was the youngest model in the show and he handled it well until the last moment!”
He’s a cutie pie. Congrats!

Happy Mother’s Day UK: 10 Best Songs about Moms

Happy Mother’s Day to all my British moms out there including the plenty Brit celeb moms we’ve featured and followed over the years! (Sienna Miller, Rochelle Humes, Mel B, Victoria Beckham, mom-to-be Keira Knightley and others).
I dug the Daily Mail‘s 10 best songs for moms it posted this morning in honor of today!
Check it out here
My fave among them was a song I only heard for the first time yesterday as it had flown under my radar. It’s Beyoncé’s “RingOff” dedicated to her mom for learning to love again after her dad’s infidelity.

We adore Cate Blanchett’s wardrobe in Cinderella (PHOTOS)

This weekend is the premiere opening of Disney’s live action adaptation of Cinderella starring Downton Abbey‘s Lily James in lead at theaters nationwide.
But we are really loving Cate Blanchett as the Wicked Stepmother, Lady Tremaine, especially for her fabulous wardrobe!
Academy Award-winning costume designer Sandy Powell brought her expertise to the project and drew  inspiration from the 1940s glam era.
“They wanted to give the stepmother a bit of a history, to give her a reason for being the way she was,” Powell has said of costuming the wicked step mom. “She was hurt, bitter, but there was no reason she should be ugly. She was beautiful but kind of intimidating.”
Powell’s credits include Gangs of New York, Shakespeare in Love and The Wolf of Wall Street, among others.
She offered some insight in her decision to upgrade the Treamaine’s style game.

“This is not set in any real time period, so I could go all out with the color,” Powell said. “It’s a film for kids, adults too, but really it’s a fairy story. I thought of it as a picture book, how it’s graphic and bright, you can tell who everybody is from the color they’re wearing. I could go out there and do the boldest versions of things I’d done before.”

We love it all!

Family Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring cleaning season is just around the corner and families will be clearing out the dust and clutter that accumulated this winter. But part of that cleaning involves chemicals, mold and mildew, all which may contribute to poor indoor air quality.
Broan-NuTone offers the following tips from home-improvement expert Danny Lipford on how to breathe easy and have a healthier spring clean out.
Watch your chemical count!
§  When you use household cleaners be mindful of the harmful chemicals that circulate into the air you breathe. To be safe, open a window during and after the use of these products.
Keep humidity levels (and potential mold and mildew!) in check particularly in bathrooms and kitchens where moisture builds up throughout the year.
§  Easily test the effectiveness of your fan by holding a piece of tissue paper near the fan – if the fan is removing air properly the paper will be drawn against the grill and remain there as long as the fan is on
Clear the kitchen air after cooking and cleaning.
§  The kitchen is a key source of indoor air pollution especially with a gas stove, so make sure to use a range hood to remove the pollutants created from cooking and preparing meals.
Keep dust and debris at bay.
§  Dust is basically shed skin cells and pet dander. Dust mites feed on those particles and tend thrive in bedrooms on linens and blankets. Wash linens often in very hot water and replace pillows regularly, or cover existing pillows with antiallergenic covers.
Happy Cleaning!

Pre-Pregnancy “Bucket List”: 5 Things to Do Before Having Your First Child

Bellyitch Rewind

A bucket list contains things, adventures, feats, and accomplishments that people want to tackle before “kicking that proverbial bucket”.  Bellyitch had a past post about the Bucket List for DINKS  – or Dual Income, No Kids couples.  A lot of women worry about getting pregnant because they fear what will become of their flat abs and freedom. Well, the fear is understandable and therefore, it may just be better that they have their own individual pre-baby bucket list, separate from the one they share with their significant other.

This post HERE has links to ideas of what other women had on their lists.

Here are 5 few items to consider adding to it.

1. Go “Bare-Bellied”
Crystal Renn by Patrick Demarchelier in Glamour, May 2009
Wear a two piece on the beach or a bare midriff top. If you become one of those unfortunate ones to get lots of stretch marks on your belly during pregnancy, you may never feel comfortable baring your tummy again after baby comes.  Creams and laser surgery may not make it the same as before. So bare it now even if you’ve never felt comfortable in a bikini.  If your abs are not in tip top shape, get them there… or don’t! Who cares? If you’re uncomfortable about exposing abs that are not defined, imagine how weird you’ll feel about exposing undefined abs with the map of Switzerland on them. Get out there and bare it all, girl!

2. I Hope you Dance
credit: Fred J. Field for The Boston Globe
These days will be the last that you can get on top of a bar or a table and dance freely at a club or bar without worrying about the photos landing on Facebook and embarrassing your kid. Even if you’re shy and would never consider dancing where you’d get so much attention, dig deep down and find your inner “Coyote Ugly” and shake what your mama gave you. You’re only young and baby-free once!

3. Gotta Get Away
credit: Pinky Photography
Last minute vacations away on a whim and moment’s notice are reserved for those with no attachments holding them back. Many airlines offer last-minute get away fares and sometimes a long drive across the country can be refreshing and liberating…but usually when you don’t have kids at home to worry about. If the girls are getting away for a quick trip, why not throw caution in the wind and join them?
 4. Get down and dirty
Go ahead and “get it on” somewhere risque, in  public and off limits with your significant other or husband. If you get caught, you don’t have to worry about who will watch the kids while you arrange for bail.

SPLURGE
After baby comes, many women sacrifice their wants and needs and don’t feel comfortable spending on themselves any longer. So before you have to deal with that weight on the mind, go get yourself those pricey pair of shoes or handbag you’ve had your eye on for a while.  It’s the ultimate “me” treat to spend carelessly on self. Do it when you can.

It’s now or never ladies! Do it NOW! Good Luck and Have fun!

Kerry Washington opens up on Motherhood and parenting a Girl

Kerry Washington is a private person but during recent interviews she has opened up quite a bit about being a parent.
In a new Marie Claire interview which was with HBO‘s Girls star and creator Lena Dunham, for example, Washington reveals what she wants for her  daughter Isabella who she welcomed almost a year ago.
“I just want [Isabelle] to know that she’s heard. Really heard, because I feel like that is what we all really want. When I think about any of the missteps in my life that I’ve made, all of which I’m grateful for, it’s because I just so wanted to be truly seen and heard for who I am and was afraid I wasn’t or wouldn’t be. I see you, I hear you, I’m with you as you are.”
Also a recent book launch luncheon on international women’s day, Scandal star Kerry Washington revealed a bit about her feelings about motherhood.
“It’s just made my life better in every way,” the Emmy -nominated actress told PEOPLE at Sunday’s book release event for Expecting 411.”
She and husband NFL‘s Nnamdi Asomugha plan to celebrate her first birthday on April 21.
Washington also had great things to say about the book: “This book was by my bedside the whole time I was pregnant,” Washington shared. “It’s as if your very best girlfriend was a brilliant OB and wrote a book for you.”
Last fall, Washington also shared that she has been breastfeeding her daughter and hopes to pass along a healthy lifestyle to her.
“I’ve always been a person who really approaches health in a proactive way,” the Image Award winning actress stated. “I work out, I eat right, so those are things I continued to do once my doctor said I could, but not to be crazy about it. I’m breastfeeding, so I can’t starve myself. It’s important for me to be a good mom and a good actor, and be responsible to myself and my family.”

Baby wrapped in American flag photo sparks controversy

Professional photographer Vanessa Hicks has been the subject of controversy this week over newborn photography images she took and shared on her Facebook page and online professional photography community.  Some are calling the photos of a baby laying nude on an American flag and swaddled in a flag shaped like a tiny hammock unpatriotic and a desecration of the flag.
The baby in the photo belong to her client, a military veteran, Samantha Clevenger and the man in uniform holding ends of the hammock is her husband Rodney Clevenger a current active duty Navy seaman.  U
Hicks and the Clevengers have been all over TV and radio defending the image which went viral and drew the ire of many reservionists, active duty and vets, but also much support from military families and others as well.
Hicks addressed the controversy on her Facebook page:

Yesterday, I woke up to see this photo was shared on a group site that is meant to bash other photographers. It was in their opinion I had disrespected our nations flag. I had disrespected our country by taking this picture. Several of these people not only bashed the picture, but me, saying I should be ashamed of myself, my husband should be ashamed, etc and I received several private messages to my business page. They even took it a step farther and bashed the service member in the picture, hoping he gets in trouble for participating in desecration of the flag.

I am very well aware of our U.S Flag code. I also know exactly what desecration of a flag is. It’s when you pull into ports and you see protestors with our flag and have spray painted horrible things on it. It’s when you watch the news and you see other countries burning our flags, and you are a young Quartermaster scared because you know you are just a few nautical miles from that exact country.

“The inspiration behind this photo is that we wanted to capture everything about this family in one shot,” Hicks told BuzzFeed News. “The father, who is in uniform, is currently serving. The mother is a veteran. This baby is being wrapped in the flag.”
She has since offered the couple free photography for life.
Perhaps, as we’ve covered in Bellyitch in the past, wearing the American flag violates protocol as well but it is a recycled fashion trend adopted internationally.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
