Lil Kim welcomes daughter, Royal Reign

Congratulations to veteran rapper Lil Kim on the birth of her daughter on Monday, June 9. A source to US Weekly confirms.

The pint-sized recording artist who rose to fame in the 90s alongside her mentor rap pioneer The Notorious B.I.G. is said to have named her child Royal Rein.

After rumors circulated about the pregnancy following an appearance at a New York Fashion Week show with a very bulbous belly, Kim eventually confirmed the news while performing a few hours later.

Although Kim has never confirmed who the baby’s father is officially, rapper Mr. Papers did in social media and was very present at the lavish Royal themed baby shower that took place last month. The event was filmed for David Tutela‘s new show, CELEBrations which will air this August 1 on WE TV.

Congrats!

Trend Alert: How to get Celeb-style Neon Nails

This Summer, if you dare to go bold and experiment with neon colored nail polish you may have seen on the fingertips of your favorite celebrity, here is a simple tutorial from FindItWeddings to get you started if you venture to do it yourself.

1.  Make sure you remove all traces of old nail polish and then wash off all traces of nail polish remover.

2. Buffing your nails gives them a super smooth surface so you get a great finish.

3. Try a rubberized base coat to help the nail polish stay on longer and will help the nail polish to bond better. Make sure it is completely dry before applying polish.

4.  Give your nail polish a shake but not vigorously as you may create air bubbles.

5.  Don’t be in a rush. Apply thin coats and let them dry before re-applying. Don’t sit by a fan either as this may also create bubbles in the wet polish. Humidity will retard the drying process so allow extra time if it’s humid. Be patient.

6.   If you smudge your nails ( so easily done) use a smudge repair product rather than having to start again and run the risk of messing up other nails.

7.  Finally, finish with a top coat to protect your nail art design. Using a top coat will not only help protect from damage but will increase the life of your manicure.

Finally, if you want to experiment with more colors or to stay safe with a kit, there are numerous of neon nail kits availalble at online and brick and mortar retailers.

California Sex Ed class requires 8th graders to tell class how far sexually they’d go

A California middle school is coming under fire today for a class that requires 8th graders in a sex education class to publicly state before the class how far they are willing to go sexually.
Parents of a Woodland Park Middle School in San Marcos, California, said their 14-year old daughter was forced to stand under signs labeled “smiled at, hugged, kissed, above the waist, below the waist, and all the way.”
The activity was part of a dating lesson in the “family life and health class” and the teacher instructed the girl and all the students to participate.
“To put them up in front of their friends to be humiliated or to be asked questions that I believe are personal, it’s really none of the school’s business,” the parent told 10News.
The goal of the activity is to discuss what is appropriate for dating at the middle school level, school officials told the station, but the parents of the girl who complained said the activity only made her feel peer pressured.
“For the children to get that confused is just another reason why it shouldn’t even be in the schools,” the parents complained.
The school’s principal has defended the activity saying the idea came from a community clinic and that it had been used for years.

“The parents sign permission slips for the class and can look at the curriculum prior,” the principal said.
“The of the lesson was to open the lines of communication between parents and students about dating expectations.”

The teen’s parents said an anonymous survey would’ve been better.
“They need to have it on paper, no names on it they can do it at their desk and put it in a private box if the school really wants to know,” the parents said.
What are your thoughts?

Tony Awards: Red Carpet, On Stage and Behind the Scenes (PHOTOS)

Tonight’s 68th annual Tony Awards, held at the Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan, New York city was a treat and we enjoyed it especially because we got to see a lot of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums shine on the Red Carpet and the stage.  Stars such as Fantasia Barrino who wowed in a turquoise form fitting dress with a small train on the red carpet before doing a show-stopping number with music greats Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight (above with Patti) with the cast from “After Midnight“.

Also hitting the stage was our alum Indina Menzel who will star in her play If/Then but did an amazing job belting out the tune “Always Starting Over” on stage tonight.

Before then, she was ga ga glam on the red carpet in a back scoop magenta satin dress.

Oscar-winning Actress and singer Jennifer Hudson gave her fans a sneak peek into her dressing room as she prepared to hit the stage and perform a song with the cast of “Finding Neverland.”

Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal also looked fabulous presenting while showing off her new dark cropped cut which looked great with her featered Dolce & Gabbana  dress over Manolo Blahnik heels.

Though not a Bumpwatch “mom”, we’ve covered dad Neil Patrick Harris plenty in the past. Today, his legs and arms looked toned to the max while dressed in drag and performing with the cast of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Earlier in the night, he arrived with his longtime partner  David Burtka in matching tuxes.

A fave from the night was singer actress and Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Thalia  the Latina singer who is also married to producer Tommy Mottolla, who was married to Mariah Carey briefly at the beginning of her career.

‘Born in Wild’ reality TV show will chronicle people who give birth in wilderness

Lifetime’s new reality show is delivering some controversy before it’s even been born. The network announced Wednesday a new series titled Born in the Wild that chronicles pregnant women giving birth outdoors, unassisted by doctors.
“What happens when the craziest experience of a woman’s life becomes truly wild, and soon-to-be parents decide to take on an unassisted birth in the outdoors?” asks the press release. “Born in the Wild will document the journeys of young, expectant parents who have chosen to give birth ‘in the wild.’”It’s certainly a head-turning TV hook. But one obstetrician says we already know what happens when women give birth in the wild, and it isn’t good. “I understand everybody wants to believe we overmedicalize pregnancy and that it’s a natural process. But it’s a natural process that historically has caused an extraordinary loss of life,” says Ron Jaekle, MD, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Fetal Center. “There is not a single piece of literature that we had to read growing up that didn’t talk about somebody’s mother or wife dying in childbirth, it was part of the national vocabulary. In the 1900s, a women died for every 1,000 babies born in the United States. Today it’s .1 for every 1,000.”The Lifetime series is taking precautions to help ensure the safety of the mother and child. No first-time mothers will be allowed to participate on the show and all participants will have a clean bill of health. A trained emergency professional will be on site. And while the couple will choose the birthing location, the production will remain within a certain radius of a hospital should complications arise. “I’m not surprised an OB-GYN would say that [but] we’re taking extreme precautions to make sure the mothers and the babies are safe,” says Eli Lehrer, Lifetime’s senior VP and head of nonfiction programming. “Our presence at these births is going to make them far safer than if they were doing it on their own.”The series itself was inspired by a viral video showing a birth in a forest that racked up 20 million views (photo above). Lehrer says he has a personal connection to the show’s concept himself as his second child was born at home via midwife. “This isn’t [Discovery Channel’s]Naked and Afraid and we’re dropping people in the woods and saying ‘go have the baby,’” he says. “These are all people who have already had babies in hospitals who had unsatisfying experiences and who are choosing to have different experiences. This is something people are doing and we set out to document it.”

Fashion: Celeb-style summer Swim options for baby girls

Summer is around the corner. Parents to little girls have many more options of pretty and fun bathing suit options. As we’ve posted about in the past, some even include bikinis which can get controversial as when Kourtney Kardashian’s daughter Penelope Disick was photographed in one as a baby and a pre-schooler.
But at the end of the day, the bathing suits are only sexualized based on who is in it. A cross-dressing man in a bikini wouldn’t be considered sexually provocative for most people, neither obese people who society deems shouldn’t be wearing one because it exposes their not-so-ideal bodies, per traditional standards. Therefore, unless you are looking at a baby in a sexual way, is there anything wrong with him or her in one?
All that being said, our partners Alex and Alexa has loads of bathing options for girls that are super cute, and some on the pricey end because they are usually from couture and expensive labels, but there are affordable options too.
Check some of them out. Click to be taken to the site:

Thinking of accident victim SNL’sTracy Morgan who welcomed new baby last July

It was just last July that we were wishing congratulations to SNL alum Tracy Morgan on the birth of his new daughter Maven Sonae Morgan with then fiance Megan Wollover.

Today, our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, and the family of those who lost their lives and are in critical condition in the hospital as Morgan is tonight.

A tractor trailer careened into the back of the limo bus carrying Morgan, friends and crew from one comedy concert location to a next on the New Jersey Turnpike. Morgan was flown to a nearby hospital where he is being treated.

Morgan is best known for starring as a caricature of himself in 30 Rock the long-running NBC show created by Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Tina Fey.

8 New Products to Check out for the Summer

Summer is around the corner and as busy and anxious parents prepare for longer days, fun, sun and surf, we’ve rounded up some great products to keep in mind and check out.
1.

Ugly marks from mosquito bites.  Whether you or your kid have keloid skin or bruise from the usual rough housing of summer play, bug bites or allergic skin reactions, you may be stuck with a raised bump or scar. We sampled  Scar Away’s newest products, including its professional grade Silicone Daily Discs and after applying the round discs on visible scars for a few days, the scars faded, flattened much.

The company that makes the discs also sells  the flexi Scar Sheets that are great for contoured body areas including C-section scars.  They sell in 12 week supply.

2.  Date Night Solution- For date nights out after having a baby, new moms can feel sexy again wearing one of Avon’s new Body Illusions undergarments with seamless and anti-rolling construction that flattens the tummy and slims the waistline. The shapewear is opaque, machine-washable and made of nylon with spandex.

3.  Campers Treat: Here is a cool idea for those of you due this summer. Tattooest sells temporary tattoos what you can  customize with the name of your newborn.  They can be given away with your birth announcement card or as a little gift/souvenir to friends and family who come to visit your pretty little miracle. We haven’t personally tested them out, but it seems like a cute idea, even though $252 seems like a lot of money and who knows 100 people who will want to tattoo your baby’s name  on their skin? Seems like they should sell in smaller batches just for very close family.

4. For new walkers: If your little one is starting to walk this summer, you’re going to make sure his little footsies are covered and in the right pair of shoes that support a new walker. You might have spotted the makers of Freshly Picked moccasins bidding for funding on ABC‘s Shark Tank. The are comfy moccasins for young kids. They come in sizes 1 to 10 and are made of 100% genuine leather. Celeb fans of the shoes include Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Petra.

5. A Camp Alternative: And if you are looking for a fun and different activity for your school kids home for the summer to do, and in the San Francisco Bay area, why not get them into the culinary arts?

COOK! Classes for kids were the inspiration for Disney/Pixar animators for the Ratatouille film and director Clint Eastwood for several projects.

Mother daughter-duo Terry and Tracy Paulding founded the company behind the course,  Paulding & Co. They offer courses for 6 to 18 year olds based in their San Francisco Bay area catering kitchen. The camps provide training in everything from basic cooking skills to specialized cuisines, to kitchen science and are designed to give kids the confidence and skills they need to cook for themselves, for friends, and for their families.

Date Night Solutions

6. Mom and dad will have to take some time out to enjoy the wonderful weather alone too sometime this summer. Two apps come in handy to make romantic nights away from parenting a possibility:

Taste Savant is an app which curates restaurants and help savvy divers decide where to eat by checking out the reviews from friends, restaurant critics, bloggers, chefs and other food experts.

7. Urban Sitter.com helps parents find adn book babysitters by reviewing recommendations from people in their own personal social circles and networks.

Together, date night should be a breeze.

Summer Camp Safety Solution

8. If your kid will be among the 11 million going away to camp this year, but has a medical condition or allergies to sleep-over camp, consider arming her with one of Hope Paige‘s line of colorful medical ID bracelets that add funk, flare and style to traditional medical ID bracelets.
The waterproof, durable and fun bracelets are gender neutral enough for boys and girls and will go along way to helping a kid not feel branded.

Former First Daughter and mom-to-be Chelsea Clinton is not letting pregnancy slow her down.

This Weekend: Go on a “Digital Detox” & reconnect back with your family

This weekend, how about committing to a “digital diet” and reconnecting back with the children. In this technology driven age while parents try to get their kids to get off their game consoles, phones and step away from the TV, they are guilty too of overindulging with the TV and disconnecting from their children.
I know I am guilty of this too and it has gotten worse. Here is a reprint of an article from last year by TV correspondent and author of The Digital Diet: The 4-step plan to break your tech addiction and regain balance in your life
, Daniel Sieberg

Here are his basic steps from that piece on how to have a Digital Diet.

Step 1: Rethink

Say you spend a total of two hours each day posting on Facebook or Twitter, mindlessly surfing the Web, sculpting your online image, or all of the above, in ways that don’t relate explicitly to your job. It doesn’t seem like much, but over the course of a year, that adds up to roughly 30 days — an entire month vanished in the ether. What do you have to show for it? What else could you have accomplished in that time?

Even multitasking — the preferred excuse of the gadget-obsessed — isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. A study published in the journal Science in April 2010 found that performing multiple simultaneous tasks leaves the brain somewhat baffled (the phrase “jack of all trades and master of none” comes to mind), while a 2009 Stanford University study found that massive multitaskers are easily distracted and have a hard time sorting out irrelevant information. This unfocused state often results in irrational decision-making. Our brains are, as Washington neurologist Richard Restak put it to me, being “sculpted” by digital forces.

Step 2: Reboot
If you’re due for a detox, it’s best done over a weekend.
First, take your digital devices and assorted tech temptations — anything needing a charger — and put them in a box (yes, an actual box; it can be a shoebox or a dresser drawer). Second, and this is scary, give someone you trust the passwords to your social networking accounts (never for your bank or credit card accounts, of course), so they can change them to remove any temptation to log on. Third, set a message on your cellphone saying you won’t be available to check in for a couple of days (let callers assume you’re on a remote vacation). Fourth, stop sending texts. You can check your e-mail, but just once each day, maybe in the evening. For one weekend, downsize the communications technology in your life.

You might enjoy checking the weather by stepping outside and looking up rather than tapping a smartphone icon. You can pick up a book rather than your laptop. You can exercise more, or engage in a conversation with someone face to face. Spend more time reading with your kids. Organize your closet. Pull out the musical instrument that has been gathering dust in the basement.
Over the detox weekend, get a regular old-school notebook and jot down your answers to the following questions: How are your face-to-face relationships with people close to you? How would you describe your reliance on the technology in the box? Are you terrified at the thought of disconnecting?
Revisit these questions constantly throughout your digital diet.

Step 3: Reconnect
The point of the diet is not to eliminate gadgets from your life but to assign them their proper place. One way to do this is by being vigilant about your e-day — the time you spend online each day, from when your digital use starts to when it ends.

During detox, the length of your e-day should be basically zero. As you build back to a healthy digital balance in your life, your e-day will grow — but it shouldn’t expand right back to where it was.

Slowly, start using some of your gadgets again, at first for just a one-hour e-day. Keep a record in your notebook of the time spent with each one. Notice how your usage adds up, and ask yourself why you’re using each device. Has technology replaced something in your life that concerns you? Is your identity being shaped through social networks? (When something happens, do you find yourself thinking about how best to describe it on Facebook?)

Begin to set some boundaries for your e-day. Establish limits on when people can expect to hear from you, for instance. (Even if you’re awake, don’t respond to work e-mails at 2 a.m.) Begin your e-day with a cup of coffee, sans gadgets, and end it by charging your devices in the kitchen overnight, not in your bedroom, where they will drain your personal energy and impede any snuggle time. Buy an alarm clock; if your BlackBerry or iPhone doubles as your alarm, it will demand your attention the moment you wake up. For one day, at least, set your smartphone to give no alerts for e-mails and texts. Check it when you choose to and on your own time.

Good luck! I’m going to be trying these one day!
