Bump Watch: Scarlett Johansson rocks red at Captain America’s Paris premiere

Scarlett Johansson hasn’t confirmed her pregnancy with her fiance journalist Romain Dauric. However, it looked as if she may have been concealing a tiny bump under the black top and crimson Michael Kors cropped pants suit she wore to the Parisian premiere of her latest film, Captain America: The Winter Solstice on Monday, March  17.

The Avengers actress accented her look with an 18k white gold black onyx and diamond Etincelles necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels Une Journee statement necklace.

Cute!

How to pick your baby’s pediatrician

Bellyitch Rewind

Most parents chose a pediatrician for their child before the baby is even born. For first time parents this decision can be confusing. The majority of parents end up switching pediatricians a couple times at least before they find one that they are comfortable with. Prepare yourself before making your first decision and you may avoid having to switch which can be a hassle and also upsetting to your child.
The first aspect you have to consider is the pediatrician’s demeanor and bedside manner. A good pediatrician will be warm and friendly – it’s difficult to get a child to cooperate or settle down when they don’t feel comfortable with the person examining them. It’s important that your pediatrician shares similar views as you on the things that you find most important. Additionally, they should have an open mind towards differing opinions and respect your thoughts and opinions.
The office and staff is just as important to consider when making your decision. Since you will be dealing with the receptionists, nurses, and medical assistants it is imperative that you consider them in your decision. Talk to the staff to see if they are accommodating and warm. Inquire about how long it takes to get an appointment for a sick child. Some offices have a difficult time getting kids in quickly which will become very important for you if your baby is sick. Ask who you talk to when you call with a question – in some offices you can talk immediately with a nurse and in some you leave a message for someone to call you back later. Deciding which system you feel most comfortable with will save frustration later.
Many parents find it important for the office to have two separate waiting rooms – one for kids who are sick and one for kids who are not. Since illnesses are passed so easily from child to child it is nice to avoid these germs when coming in for a well-child checkup.
Set up an interview, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and make the best decision you can with the information you have. Your child’s pediatrician will be a big part of those early years so it is important that you and your child feel comfortable with them.
Some sample questions are:

  • What is your philosophy about child rearing?
  • Who covers the practice when you are out of town?
  • Do you have a 24 hour hotline and a nurse practitioner on call for emergency advice?
  • What is your policy on minor emergency visits without an appointment?
  • What vaccinations do they recommend and what is the schedule?
  • How do they feel about listening to parents about their children’s condition?  Mommy knows best or they are the professionals?
  • Cost and what insurance coverage is accepted?
  • If you wanting to use holistic solutions, how does the pediatrician view this?  How do they feel about breastfeeding?

One of the best gifts for a new mother, is a list of recommended pediatricians from other mothers.

Dr. Cristina Ramirez provides holistic chiropractic care for pregnant women, babies, and kids.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell says she’s considering having a baby (VIDEO)

Supermodel Naomi Campbell appeared on the Wendy Williams show for the first time ever today and during her interview told Wendy she would consider having children in the future.
While on the show to plug tonight’s premiere of the second season of The Face her model competition show on the Oxygen network,  the host mentor and show’s executive producer talked with Williams about a wide variety of topics including babies!!
When Williams asked Campbell if she would ever consider starting a family, Campbell replied:

“OK. Possibility. I absolutely adore [kids]. I adore. I have two orphanages in Kenya. Yeah. One in Jamaica. One in Cuba. I love kids. The right guy, or the right bank”

Alright now! Many A list celebrity moms (over 20 of them) have had babies in the later years, after age 40.
And not everyone is waiting for the perfect man either. Last year, Spanish model Monica Cruz, sister to Penelope Cruz, welcomed her first child via an anonymous donor from a sperm bank because, as she stated last January,  she felt her clock was ticking and she didn’t want to wait for the right man to come along.

Come on with it, Ms. Naomi. A baby or babies would definitely rock and change her world! Wouldn’t it?

Mom sues for “wrongful birth”over sickle cell diseased child she had after getting tubes tied

An Illinois mom of four is suing her doctor for “wrongful pregnancy” after she gave birth to a child with Sickle Cell disease after he tied her tubes.
Cynthia Williams was born with a sickle cell trait and lost her right ovary to a cyst when she was just 12-years old. After marrying a man with a sickle cell trait, Williams became high risk for conceiving a child with the disease. The couple’s second son was indeed born with Sickle Cell and suffered extensive health issues because of it.  It contributed to the couple’s later decision to not have anymore children.
When birth control pills gave her high blood pressure, Williams went to  Dr. Byron Rosner of Reproductive Health Associates to perform a procedure to tie her one tube in 2008.
But she got pregnant anyway.,
“I was livid,” Williams told the Daily Mail, recalling the “impossible” blue line on the pregnancy test, quickly confirmed by the flutter of a heartbeat on a sonogram. “I just lost it.”
Williams’ fourth child, daughter Kennadi, was born in February 2010 with sickle cell disease. Williams suffered congestive heart failure after the birth and wound up in the hospital for 2-weeks.
She is suing the doctor for  “personal injury to her, emotional distress, and for lost wages” as well as “the extraordinary expenses” she expects to incur raising Kennadi, according to court documents.
“I love Kennadi with all my heart, and that’s the honest-to-God truth,” said Williams. “But it’s been a life change for everybody –- my whole family.”
There is precedent for this case. In 2011, a jury awarded a Portland, Oregon couple $2.9 million dollars for the wrongful birth of a baby with Down Syndrome they said they would’ve aborted if the genetics testing company they used didn’t wrongfully tell them the baby had no abnormalities while in utero.
What do you think? Should the mom get to sue her doctors for the life long care of a child with sickle cell that she wouldn’t have had if the tubal ligation worked.

How to help children cope through Earthquakes

This week, an earthquake hit the West Coast, which was a source of mild panic and humor when a video of a Live TV news crew’s reaction went viral. The incidence also reminds us of the importance of managing children’s reactions to earthquakes.

Earthquakes can be terrifying, and it is natural for children and adults to be afraid. According to the National Association of School Psychologists, earthquakes are especially difficult to cope with because they come without warning and are followed by aftershocks. With continued shaking, survivors do not experience a clear end to the crisis. Some children and adults may have reactions very soon after the event, while others may experience problems weeks or months later.

The following tips from the National Institute of Mental Health and other organizations will help you help the children in your care

During an earthquake

During (and after) an earthquake, children will usually become tearful and clinging. They will want their parent(s). Even toilet-trained children may have accidents or experience nausea and vomiting.

Deal with the situation as calmly as you can. In a disaster, the children will look to you and other adults for help. How you react to an emergency gives them clues on how to act

As soon as you are sure the danger has passed

Let the children know that you understand why they are scared. Comfort them with a hug or reassuring words. Reassure them that their parents know where they are or where they may go. Their parents will come to get them as soon as they can. They are safe with you.You will look after them.

After an earthquake

• Return to routine as soon as possible.

• Express your own concerns openly, and let students know that it’s normal to be afraid.

• Encourage the children to talk about their fears. Help them sort out what is real from what is unreal. Encourage them to draw or write about their feelings. Children are less afraid of things that they understand.

• Be aware that children begin to suck their thumbs, have difficulty eating or sleeping, wet their beds, or report mysterious aches or pains. It is common for children to “regress” or act younger when stressed. Do not criticize the children or call such behavior “babyish.”

• Parents frequently look to you for advice, so help them understand their children’s behavior and be aware that they also may be suffering. Parents may be afraid to leave their children after a disaster. Some parents may be angry or upset because their children are frightened. Reassure them that with support most children will recover without any lasting problems.

• Watch children for ongoing signs of emotional distress (avoiding things that remind them of the event, appearing numb or withdrawn, having nightmares). If a child continues to be disturbed for more than a few weeks, the family may need to seek professional counseling. While most children recover completely after a disaster, others may have more long-term problems that require treatment, including depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

• Understand that you also may have emotional difficulties after a traumatic event and take

care of yourself.

L’Wren Scott’s Death: Celeb moms tweet respects to the late designer

Yesterday, former model, business mogul and designer L’Wren Scott  reportedly committed suicide in her New York City apartment. The news broke the afternoon of Monday, March 17 about the tragic loss of the talented fashion maven who also famously dated Rolling Stones‘ lead Mick Jagger for over a decade. She  was said to have been millions of dollars in debt and perhaps was motivated by the financial collapse of her fashion empire. Police are still investigating though they have ruled out foul play.
Meantime, as social media has become the new distribution system for statements from public figures, several of our current and past Bellyitch moms also took to Twitter and Instagram to share public words of support to Scott’s family and Jagger.

Among her closest friend was Nicole Kidman who wore Scott’s designs on the red carpet, and in movies like Eyes Wide Shut, reports US Weekly.
“Nicole and L’Wren were close friends for 25 years,” a spokesperson for Kidman told The Insider With Yahoo. “Nicole is heartbroken and in shock right now and unable to say anything.”
Scott’s death is the latest in a string of high profile suicides and comparable to Alexander McQueen, another notable and talent who also took his life in 2010.

Trend Alert: How to Rock PolkaDots when Preggers

Polka dots have returned into fashion this season, but of course polka dots are a print and many women when they are getting wider in girth choose to avoid patterns. They shouldn’t because mamas-to-be can and should rock whatever they want without fear but we understand the concern.

There are ways to get in on the polka dot trend by accessorizing their solid outfits with the pattern. Here are examples of black and white polka dots though certainly colored polka dots are prevalent and count too:

SHOES
JEWELRY

Red lipstick is great with black and white polkadots.

ACCESSORIES
SHADES

Pink lipstick also goes great with colored polka dots

NAILS

TOTES AND CLUTCHES

Congratulations to TODAY show anchor Savannah Guthrie who not only married her beau since 2008 Michael Feldman this weekend but also surprised the 90 guests that she was about 4-months pregnant as well.
Jon and Dorothea Bon Jovi, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb and Willie Geist were among the guests attending the intimate secret wedding which was not previously publicly announced.
It was a cute way she shared the news too, Celebrity Babies reports.
It was after a DJ played NBC News “Special Report” music.
“Savannah looked at Mike, and said, ‘So, should we break some news? Okay. I – we – are four months pregnant!’ It was an explosive moment. Everyone was on their feet, cheering,” the source told the site.
So sweet considering just last year the host said she wanted to have children but was worried because she was 41.
