Fall Styling Tips to Last the Season

fall

As the weather starts to cool, you may be putting away your summer clothes, taking down the fall stuff and looking to augment your wardrobe with new staples to last through the fall and winter. If you’re preggers, you will need to stock up on a few items as well to last through the season.

You will want to start with layering basics. I like starting with a tank, and adding a light long sleeve jersey over top of that. Throw on a light weight cardigan over that. You can remove layers as you warm and add more if you get cold. Grab a few of them from vintage stores or get as many boutique tank tops to last you the season. If you stick with primary colors in solid traditional or pastels, you should be good to go and have enough options for mixing and matching.

Next, invest in a good sturdy pair of fall boots. You can go with classic Riding style boots or a chic but sturdy wedge bootie. Both, by a quality brand to last thru fall and early winter will do.

Everyone needs lots of room to put all your stuff. A large tote bag is perfect accompaniment for your fall wardrobe. Get one in a standard color that will work with your wardrobe and if you want to really stand out or add a pop of color to your wardrobe, here is where you can add that element.

Scarves are essential as the weather begins to chill and it begins to get crisp outdoors. There are many different ways you can tie a scarf. Also, you can mix and match scarves with different patterns and shapes and use them to add style to a basic monochromatic palette.

Finally, big and bold costume jewerly can be conversation statement pieces. You don’t have to spend a lot on them because you will be swapping them out frequently. They’ll add some flavor to your look.

Hope these style tips gives you some ideas to work with as you build out your fall wardrobe.

Review: This Larimar Stone Pendant Would Make a Great ‘Push Gift’

larimar stone 12

Whether you are a first time mom-to-be or a veteran mom having a second or third child, you may or may not have heard about the new trend growing in popularity in the United States called “push present” or “push gift”.

Essentially, it is a gift that a spouse or partner gives the expecting mom before or right after she gives birth. And even though the term references the “pushing” that happens in the delivery room, women who have C-Sections are also presented with a reward.

Often times, it is a piece of jewelry, though some have gifted spa or girls get-away trips, automobiles and other luxury items. For those on a limited budget, we’ve heard of some new moms given gift certificates to their favorite restaurant, flowers or hand-made gifts.

There is controversy surrounding it as some women who consider themselves to be feminist consider the new tradition as a chauvinistic one but not all agree.

I’m all for them and wish they were a trending thing when I was growing my family over 8 to 14 years ago.

Fortunately though, I got a chance to check out a new jewelry company that sells items that I think would make perfect push gifts because they have a secondary value.

Larimar Bliss handcrafts Larimar jewelry for women. In case you’re unfamiliar with Larimar, it’s a strikingly gorgeous turquoise gemstone that can only be found in the Dominican Republic. Other than widely being considered the Apex of turquoise stones, it’s also believed to have holistic healing attributes.

I’m a firm believer in holistic and Eastern medicine and certainly the power of stones crystals.   Ancient civilizations have utilized the power of crystals to release mental, physical and spiritual blockages which are thought to also facilitate the free flow of throughout the body. On a cellular level, our bodies and quartz crystal are both made up of mineral silicon-dioxide. Because of this, we are naturally receptive to the vibrations of crystals as they transmit, reflect, store light and receive energy. When crystals and stones are placed directly on your body, they have a powerful vibratory effect that surges from the stone or crystal to you. According to the law of physics, thoughts direct energy and energy follows thought. The stones or crystals are thought to be a tool to help the thoughts of our consciousness connect with our body.

I partnered up with Larimar Bliss which sent me this gorgeous Curve Pendant (retail: $249) to review. It has a unique and whimsical shape and delicately houses the stone in the middle. The piece is certainly a conversation starter.

I first wore it to a casual event when I felt I would benefit from the good vibes that would eminiate from the stone. I certainly felt mindful and connected to the stone as I went about my day that day.

I then sported the stone to a formal reception and party this weekend during date night with my husband.

I styled it with a black mini dress with a flare skirt and a square plunging neckline that revealed the pendant. It was the pop of color to my black dress which I paired with nude patent leather pumps and a tan crocheted clutch. It was a little bit of warm weather for the transitioning season as Summer comes to a close.

I thought to wear my hair up to showcase the pendant more but eventually opted with wearing it down and using it as a double frame around the pendant.

I think it worked well. I loved the look overall.

For function and purpose and style, this Curve Pendant was perfect. Larimar Bliss has a large collection of other pieces. Customers leave positive feedback on the pieces all the time. Definitely consider Larimar Bliss!

We Love These Local News Anchors’ Reaction to Declaration of Kate Middleton’s Perfect Nose (VIDEO)

What happened after local news broadcasters discussed a UK plastic surgeon’s determination that Kate Middleton had the perfect face is priceless.

FOX 5 DC’s Maureen Umeh and Wisdom Martin made THE best shady of faces and side eyes during a segment discussing British surgeon Dr. Julian De Silva‘s estimation of the most popular body features that his clients request.

De Silva ranked the top requests and during the discussion of the part of the article (featured this week on DailyMail.com) about the perfect nose, Middleton’s, Umeh and Martin just couldn’t keep their thoughts to themselves.

umeh and martin
But they did but not share their feelings in words…. but instead the most hilarious gestures! Check it out.

De Silva works at the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery and said for the last 10 years, he’s been logging the features that women ask for most.  The most popular features, according to De Silva:
  1. Nose: Kate Middleton
  2. Eyes: Keira Knightly
  3. Eyebrows: Jennifer Lopez
  4. Lips: Penelope Cruz
  5. Cheeks: Angelina Jolie
  6. Skin: Reese Witherspoon
  7. Forehead: Miley Cyrus
  8. Chin: Selina Gomez

We can only guess that the reaction is over the  absence of features common among people of African descent of which Umeh and Wisdom clearly are also. I believe Umeh has direct African heritage. The two of them are part of my family’s favorite local morning show here in DC.

Hilarious!

The Mila Effect: How Kunis Made 70s Style Mini Dresses Hot Again

throwback

Mila Kunis is well known for starring in the long-running comedy The 70s Show along with her husband Ashton Kutcher. So when she the second-time mom-to-be was spotted out recently in a 70s inspired floral mini dress with a short cropped denim jacket, she trended on several social media sites including Facebook and Twitter.

Seeing Kunis’ dress in the trending topic sparked my interest because I love shirt dresses and wear them often, like alot.

So naturally, I thought to curate some fab mini dresses with 70s flare that you can wear during any stage of your pregnancy if you are comfortable in having your legs exposed and wearing a short dress. And even if you are not, you can easily pair a short dress with leggings or cropped jeans underneath and still have the same fun, flirty and whimsical effect. Pow!

Get yourself a cute mini dress. Here are some styles to inspire your shopping trip:

Short Girls Pre-Fall Maternity Style Guide

Vertically challenged girls need hip maternity fashion too!

For pregnant ladies who are short in stature, you want to elongate your frame by wearing long tops, or throwing on a long cardigan over your outfit. Stick with tapered pants or above knee maternity pencil skirts. To lengthen the torso, wear a v-neck or deep neckline shirt.

Here is What Instagram’s ‘It Girls’ are Worth

aimee song

You could call the Instagram stars of today leading fashion influencers money-making machines. For instance, branded versions posted by Danielle Bernstein of We Wore What are reportedly worth $5,000 to $15,000. Let’s take a look at the Instagram posts of seven other fashion It girls and how much they are likely to charge a brand for sharing its campaign with their fans.

Aimee Song has 3.8 million followers on Instagram. Big news here: In April 2016, she became the first style blogger to sign a year-long digital influencer contract with Laura Mercier—it’s believed to be a $500,000 deal. Of course, it includes posting to Instagram. Song likely charges $50,000 per collaboration.

We Said It: Celeb Kids Stimulate New Businesses

The Fader published an informative news story recently about how celebrity children are helping to spawn a booming industry for couture kids clothing. It was a topic we’ve blogged about here.

The insightful article also explored the world of Instagram baby swag moms who outfit their children in fashionable chic clothing, and get famous doing so.

We’ve blogged about that trendy phenomena too as discussed before here.

Still, it was great to see the piece quoted an author who validated a concern I have with those baby swag Tumblr and IG pages:

In Kids and Branding in a Digital World, published last year the media theorist Barrie Gunter argues that the success of designer diffusion lines “play[s] on the idea that parents are the source of earliest social learning for their kids,” thereby encouraging parents to project their own brand valuations onto their children. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as Gunter hypothesized, unless children become “overly sensitised to a need to be seen as trendy and fashionable and where self-identity is centrally defined in terms of commercial brand associations.”

One small correction: The Fader piece states that luxury brands started getting into the children’s market beginning in 2010. But on the contrary, beginning in 2008, we began posting a biennial most expensive baby clothes list and Gucci, Chanel and Dior were on it back then too.

Big brands been in the rich babies game.

I did appreciate the inclusion of Australian-based designer Winnie Aoki who dresses Blue Ivy and other celebrity kids in her 5-figure costing originals that each take 300 hours for Aoki to complete.

Aoki, the site pens, was

responsible for the $2,000 dress Blue Ivy wore to her grandmother’s birthday, specializes in kid couture. Aoki crafts dresses from confectionery layers of tulle, sequins, and luxury fabrics under the label Mischka Aoki, named after her own 8-year-old daughter. The dresses, which can take up to 300 hours to craft, frequently come with five-digit price tags. According to her website, Aoki started the brand after she realized there weren’t any clothing options “good enough for her daughter”; for her, “clothes represent style and luxury at the same time.” While it may have been difficult to locate high-end designer clothing for children in 2008, when Mischka was born, the line’s explosive popularity — Aoki has dressed not just Blue Ivy, but North, Penelope Disick, and Suri — is an indicator of the steadily increasing desirability of luxury children’s wear.

It was a well written and researched article. You should check it out here!
