amazon-fire-tv-stick

If you’re one of the millions of people who have cut the cable cord or are thinking about it, you’re going to need streaming services to provide you video content that you connect to your television set’s HDMI port.  Amazon has its own version of the Chromecast called Fire Stick. It has 4 times the storage and memory of Chromecast.  Amazon says you can “enjoy over 250,000 TV episodes and movies on Netflix, Amazon Video, HBO GO, and Hulu, plus games, music, and more.” These streaming portable drives are also a good way to carry your favorite programs with you when you are traveling, in hotel rooms, at airport boarding lounges, in the dorm and while visiting others out-of-town.

2. Google Chromecast $35.00

google chrome

If you’re going to be streaming video content from your phone, tablet or laptop or other portable device, you can stick with Google’s Chromecast 2 which is a convenient and cost-effective alternative to Roku 4 or Apple TV. It is also slightly cheaper than the Fire TV stick which has come down in price since its launch. Every couch potato or man cave needs one.

3. Fit Bit Wireless Activity Tracker $46.98

fit bit

We are several generations from when the Fit Bit activity tracker first was introduced. This means those who want the simple options of the original Fit Bit can now get it at a much lower price. The device auto syncs with your computer or Bluetooth-enabled devices. Like the more recent pricier versions, you can set goals, view progress and earn badges. The social media aspect of it lets you share your steps and compete with friends all day. The app is free.  Help someone start out their New Year’s resolution to lose weight right!

4. Sharper Image Sports Action Camera with 1.5 Inch LCD Waterproof Case, Helmet and Bike Mount $49.99 (regularly $129.99)

go pro

GoPro cameras for the adrenaline rush addicted are all the rage. They’re also quite expensive, starting at about $100. Other brands have gotten into the market. Sharper Image, for example, has its Sports Action Camera which is just as good. It is a 12 megapixel camera that shoots in vivid 1080P high definition and has a built-in screen that can accommodate wide landscapes via its 120-degree wide angle lens. There is a 4x digital zoom and instant playback, along with high speed filming. It comes with a helmet mount; a bicycle mount; a waterproof case; and a 4GB memory card. Hook it up an HMDI and enjoy your footage on a television. Get this for that daredevil on your list.

Speck’s CandyShell Case for iPhone 6/6S gets great reviews on Amazon.com we noticed. It offers military-grate protection with its dual-layer design that features a hardshell exterior and an interior layer with shock absorbs. It’s scratch resistant and reportedly repels abrasions. It’s about time iPhone 6 users can get style with function.

9. Amazon Fire Tablet with Wi-Fi 8 GB ($49.99)

fire amazon
Tablets  have come down substantially in price over the years. Amazon, earlier this fall, came out with its Fire Tablet and sold it so cheap you could get it in a 6 pack. Amazon wanted the 7 inch tablet it to be the portable device that can be strewn around the home giving everyone access to their own tablet. It’s great for large family households. A 6-pack lets you gift all your nephews, nieces or Godchildren on your shopping list their very own.  It has a fast 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, rear and front-facing cameras, 8 GB of internal storage. It has expandable memory up to 128 GB via an added microSD card. Amazon promises up to 7 hours battery life. Sweet!

Sadly, Kristin Cavallari’s Missing brother Michael was Found Dead Today

kristin cav and michael cav

Condolences to the Cavallari family. The brother of Kristin Cavallari, Michael Cavallari, was found dead today three days after he went missing, E! News reports.

Press reports indicate that the body was found after Michael’s 2014 Honda Civic was discovered abandoned on I-70 in Utah.

“We want to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this very difficult time,”  Cavallari said in a statement to E! News. “We have just been informed by the authorities my brother’s body has been found. This is a very painful time and we are still processing it all. We kindly ask everyone please respect our privacy during our time of grieving.”

Cavallari just experienced some joy with her husband Chicago Bears quarterback  Jay Cutler as they welcomed the birth of their third child, and first daughter, Saylor James. Now, they, their parents and other sibling Gabriel are dealing with such tragic news.

“I appreciate all the concern, thoughts, and prayers that have been extended to me and my family. We remain hopeful and I will share any news that we receive. I have such gratitude for all those that have shared their support,” she captioned a childhood photo on Instagram of her with her brother seaside.

She posted another tender photo from when the two were babies.

We too at Bellyitch send our thoughts and prayers to the family.

Calm down KimYe Haters, the baby name ‘Saint’ Isn’t New

saint over time

Here is something for all the people hatin’ on Kim Kardashian –West and Kanye West’s son’s name, Saint. It isn’t unheard of or new even.

According to U.S. Social Security Administration statistics, in 2014, there were 32 baby boys born with the name “Saint”. Now that is out of 2 million babies born last year, making it rank 3, 413, but still.

And of all the states, Texas is way ahead of the curve because most of the children born last year named Saint were born in that state. Go Texas!

And there are and have been a few celebrities in history named Saint over time, as well.

We will be interested to see if there is an uptick in the name after this year! After all, Kim and Ye are trendsetters, whether you like them or not.

STUDY: Big-Bottom Women Give Birth to Smarter Kids

Great news for us big booty gals!

A study from the University of Oxford links an ample derrière to healthy and smart children due to the high amount of Omega 3 fatty acids (the good fatty acids) stored in the bum. These are the same fatty acids that are responsible for the normal development of the baby’s brain.

And this news isn’t necessarily new either. Back in 2007,  Chicago Tribune noted research by scientists which stated that women with fat-bottoms are actually smarter than women with flat-bottoms. Again, for the same reason: heightened Omega 3 fatty acids storage in the booty improves the brain’s functionality and development.

These studies combine with evidence which shows that the fat content in a mother’s breast milk comes from the lower half of the body, which includes her thighs, buttocks, etc.  Given that is where the Omega 3’s are stored, babies with big bottomed moms get a healthy dosage of Omega 3 in their diet.

Fab news, says this ample bum gal! ha!

Mark Zuckerberg & wife Priscilla welcome daughter, Maxima; Pledge to Donate their Wealth for her Generation

Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg and his pediatrician wife Priscilla Chan, announced the birth of their first child together, daughter,  Maxima.

Zuckerberg revealed the news in a heartfelt letter to her that included a pledge to donate 99% of the family ownership in Facebook stock to charity over their lifetime so that Max’s generation could have a better future. In the post, Zuckerberg wrote:

Chan Zuckerberg family, we also begin the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation. Our initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.

We will give 99% of our Facebook shares — currently about $45 billion — during our lives to advance this mission. We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others.

We’ll share more details in the coming months once we settle into our new family rhythm and return from our maternity and paternity leaves. We understand you’ll have many questions about why and how we’re doing this.

As we become parents and enter this next chapter of our lives, we want to sha

Fittingly, this announcement was on World #GivingTuesday, a day for philanthropy and for people to donate to various causes. Wonderful, though as a friend of mine pointed out on my Facebook share of the news, the iniative itself is for-profit entity. Notwithstanding this fact, the overall mission and goals of the initiative will go far to help others and bridge the tech and wealth divide and gap world wide.

I agree with this portion of his letter:

Many of the greatest opportunities for your generation will come from giving everyone access to the internet.
People often think of the internet as just for entertainment or communication. But for the majority of people in the world, the internet can be a lifeline.
It provides education if you don’t live near a good school. It provides health information on how to avoid diseases or raise healthy children if you don’t live near a doctor. It provides financial services if you don’t live near a bank. It provides access to jobs and opportunities if you don’t live in a good economy.
The internet is so important that for every 10 people who gain internet access, about one person is lifted out of poverty and about one new job is created.
Yet still more than half of the world’s population — more than 4 billion people — don’t have access to the internet.
If our generation connects them, we can lift hundreds of millions of people out of poverty. We can also help hundreds of millions of children get an education and save millions of lives by helping people avoid disease.
Priscilla’s work as a pediatrician and educator played a factor in their decision as well. The letter also states:
If you have an unhealthy childhood, it’s difficult to reach your full potential.
If you have to wonder whether you’ll have food or rent, or worry about abuse or crime, then it’s difficult to reach your full potential.
If you fear you’ll go to prison rather than college because of the color of your skin, or that your family will be deported because of your legal status, or that you may be a victim of violence because of your religion, sexual orientation or gender identity, then it’s difficult to reach your full potential.
We need institutions that understand these issues are all connected. That’s the philosophy of the new type of school your mother is building.
By partnering with schools, health centers, parent groups and local governments, and by ensuring all children are well fed and cared for starting young, we can start to treat these inequities as connected. Only then can we collectively start to give everyone an equal opportunity.

Here! Here!

Kudos and Congrats!

The #UNselfie: 6 Organizations to Consider Donating to this #GivingTuesday

giving tuesday
1Today is Giving Tuesday. It’s a day after Black Friday and Cyber Monday of spending to give back to those less fortunate and to other social causes doing good for the world. Many brands, merchants and for-profit organizations also use this day to match donations given by others so their gifts can go a little further to help.

If you still haven’t given to a charity today and are still considering various organizations, campaigns and initiatives to give back , consider one of these that help women, children and families:

Gift-a-Net-1

1. Global Moms Challenge

Join Global Moms Challenge in supporting #GivingTuesday—browse this list of gifts that give back. From earrings that support the lifesaving work of International Medical Corps to handwoven tea towels that create economic opportunities in Ethiopia, there’s something for everyone on your list.

2. Society for Women’s Health Research

Your donation will help to fund networks and roundtables dedicated to identifying and researching biological differences in disease and bringing these findings to the attention of clinicians, researchers, healthcare providers, and policymakers. Your donation also will support greater public and private funding for research in women’s health, as well as help to ensure that clinical trials are designed to include women and minorities. Your Giving Tuesday donation helps us achieve all of this!

3. Shot@Life

Today only, MAM Baby, a pacifier company, has agreed to DOUBLE your gift to Shot@Life by matching all donations dollar-for-dollar. We are raising money to protect a new generation of children from polio. We can stop this disabling disease in its tracks!

Polio used to cripple hundreds of children a day, but thanks to vaccines it is nearly eradicated! Nigeria has gone one year without a single case of polio, leaving just two countries where the disease is endemic – Afghanistan and Pakistan. While we have made great progress, we still need help.

Your gift to Shot@Life TODAY will be doubled. With a gift of $20 or more, you can protect at least 40 children from this debilitating disease.

Don’t miss this opportunity to double your impact and be part of making history by ending polio now.
