Will ‘The American Sniper’s fake baby cost it the Oscar?

Ok I find it hilarious that some are saying the Twitter uproar over The American Sniper ‘s use of a fake baby in an intense scene in the movie will make it lose the biggest award at the Academy Awards tomorrow night. I just spotted entertainment reporter Lisa Respers France‘s article in CNN on that theory.
In the film which portrays the life of the most deadly sniper in American history, Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) and his wife (Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Sienna Miller) are having a convo in the baby nursery after Kyle returns home from the war. Kyle picks up and rocks back to sleep a very obviously plastic baby doll dressed in pink.
Twitter had a field day when the movie first opened and now there are several reports of conspiracy theorists hypothesis that this solitary reason will be why the film maybe won’t win in the Best Picture category tomorrow. The baby has its own Twitter account and there have been several spoofs since then.
“That’s why, a lot of times, producers hire multiple babies —  you can’t always guarantee a happy baby ready for filming,” Toni Casala, founder of LosAngeles-based Children in Film told the  Washington Post. “And if one doesn’t show up, you’re definitely in trouble.”
American Sniper screenwriter Jason Hall explained just that on Twitter: “Real baby #1 showed up with a fever. Real baby #2 was a no-show.”
Check out the clip of the embarrassing use of a plastic baby in a $60M big budget movie:

Review: The ‘Kid Lid’ protects your laptop from baby and toddler users

In this digital era we live in, chances are most babies will find themselves in front of a laptop viewing an educational  DVD or cartoon while resting on her tummy on a play mat before the age of one. By the time an infant gets to toddlerhood, he would have become a pro at online games. It’s just the world we are living in now.

But babies and kids’ love for laptop videos can be costly if they bang on the keys or spill food or drink inside of it.

Enter the Kid Lid. This innovative product, which retails for $29.99, is essentially a cover for the keyboard portion of the laptop.

The latest iteration of the invention which launched and got funded on Kickstarter last year folds up easily for storage and portable carriage. It also comes in Black. That was the color of our complimentary review copy ($39.99).

Created by a company called Mogolo, The KidLid can be wiped cleaned or placed in the dishwasher even, and is made up of BPA-Free Poly Carbonate plastic. It covers laptops that are 13 or 15 inches in sizes and comes in white, but the black and watermelon colors are also available in the fold up variety. An elastic velcro strap helps keep the lid in place.

I love it and found it to be perfect and functional! Check out a video on the product:

‘Love and Hip Hop’s Emily B’s sporty-vixen-edgy maternity style

I love Rapper Fabolous! And now he and his long-time girlfriend, stylist and shoe designer, Emily Bustamante are expecting again.

This mom to 16-year old Taina Bustamante is a sweetheart and I found her quite  endearing on the few episodes of Love and Hip Hop I’ve seen. She is a cast member and star of that VH1 docu -series and also has a 6-year old son named Johan with Fab.

And peeping her Instagram, I am also loving her sporty-vixen-edgy maternity style.

I may need to follow this season of the popular season so I can peep how she mixes and matches her different looks.

Why you should prep your children to become rich

In covering politics in my other life as a poli-tech blogger where I’ve written about political campaigns, candidates and actively serving politicians, I’ve noticed that there is extreme objection in some factions to the rich and wealthy.
Much of the talking points and mantras of certain political groups that claim to represent the interest of the working class seem to be against the wealthy and paint them as evil, greedy and something to despise.
It’s dis concerning to me because I have always been of the position that we parents should be teaching our children to work hard enough so they can become independently wealthy so they can do what they want in life and can give back freely.
To me, casting aspersions on the wealthy is akin to teaching yourself and your offsprings that they will never ever make enough money to be independent and free and will never be in that economic strata. How is that a good thing?

I wrote about this topic in the past and recently, I saw self-made millionaire Lawrence Tam‘s answer on Quroa to a question “What are good ways to prepare my children to become billionaires.” The post made me smile because his answer spoke to a lot of my feelings on this issue, specifically the part on why it’s a good thing to teach your children to want to become rich.

He wrote, in part,

Many people assume that “all the rich care about” is running around in yachts and exploiting the poor. That’s what we see on TV. But I think we are all smart enough to understand that what we see on TV and what is reality isn’t exactly the same thing. Most of the time, it’s not even close.

So on point. He goes on:

When you have money, you have a power that is arguably one of the most powerful in human history, at least on a secular level. The money is NOT the goal, the STUFF that money gets you, is the goal. (and it’s not all about you too… think influence in charity work and community impact)

Do you want better healthcare? Buy it.

Need better education for your kids? Buy your way into a better school district, or pay for it. (there is a reason for schools accepting LARGE donations)

Want a better way to spend 8-12 hours a day working for someone who could care less about you? Find a way to pay your bills and then some.

Money also saves you money and time.

Buying nicer clothes and better cars last longer, need less maintenance and have a better resale value.

Taking care of yourself with exercise and organic food is cheaper than spending countless hours in the hospital chronically ill or hurt.

I can never shout out these loud enough! Amen, brother. Finally, he offered examples that parents can set (granted these examples may apply more to parents who are already well off):

Set this example: Being rich means being generous, tough, but always true to yourself and your values.

Set this example: Being rich means being unpopular. A lot. Before you are rich, people will call you stupid and unrealistic. While you are climbing, people will say you won’t make it. Even after you are rich, people will still hate you because you are rich. Show them it rolls right off your back.

Set this example: You don’t have to be a psychopath to be successful in business. Part of being rich means growing assets, investing properly and learning how money works. Like a boss.

Set this example: Educate the heck out of yourself. Broaden the definition of education to include 5% classroom and 95% real life – case studies, mentors and just plain getting your hands dirty.

Set this example: If you are working HARD, and I mean you are giving it everything you’ve got, they will see that. They will miss you, but they will understand that it takes sacrifice and hard work to reach goals. Even though people think the rich don’t have it rough, they had it the hardest in the beginning. That is why it is “easier” for them later on. Though most people know that real leaders never, ever have it easier. Ever.

Even if in the pursuit to becoming rich, a child falls short, he or she still may have developed the work ethic, tenacity, drive and determination on the journey. Those are all good character traits to have no matter where you fall on the socieoeconomic ladder.

5 signs your kid may need eyeglasses

Over 10 million kids in the US have undetected vision problems which interfere with their learning and everyday activities. Considering the fact that close to 80% of what a child learns is received visually, it’s really important that parents catch early signs of vision problems.
To help determine whether it’s time to take your child for their first eye exam, and potentially first pair of eyeglasses, Marc Weinstein, leading optometrist and co-founder of 39DollarGlasses.com put together some of the most important tell tale signs and symptoms of when your child might need to be tested for glasses.
1. Squinting
This can prove that your child may be nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism
2. Constantly Rubbing Eyes
If a child is excessively rubbing his/her eyes it could be a result of eyestrain

3. Closing or Covering One Eye While Reading or Watching Television
If a child has trouble seeing they may cover or close their eye to help adjust their vision
4. Losing Place While Reading (Or Disliking Reading/Having a Lower Attention Span)
Skipping lines or losing place could indicate vision problems
5. Sitting Closely To The Television
Typically this is a sign of nearsightedness. Nearsightedness (Myopia), as it is medically termed, is a vision condition in which close objects are seen clearly, but objects farther away appear blurred.
Hope this helps, parents! Good luck!

Lorenzo Lamas’ wife is pregnant with his grandchild

See when your family dynamics is set up so that you and your stepmom and your pops can hang socially, when you encounter struggles carrying your second child, you maybe can ask your dad’s young 5th wife to carry your baby.
And that is precisely what happened in Lorenzo Lamas’ celebrity family recently.

Shayna Lamas, who won the 12th season of The Bachelor and was briefly engaged to Brit Bachelor Matt Grant in 2008 before a split, is expecting her second child.
She and husband Nick Richie suffered a devastating late term loss last February 2014 due to a uterine rupture when Shayna was 20 weeks along. The trauma left the Leave it to Lamas and General Hospital alum unable to carry any more children physically. That is when she asked and her step mom Shawna Craig agreed to carry the baby, a boy, for her.

“It is weird. Somebody else carrying your baby is weird,” Shayne told CLOSER . “But I lost my son, and now Shawna is carrying my son. I have just been given the biggest blessing in the whole world and I will always be grateful.”
It’s also unique because Lamas’ wife is carrying his grandchild. Wonderful that the family could grown in this way. Very special indeed.
Shayna and Richie currently have a 3-year old  daughter, Press Dahl. Read more in Closer which has hit the news stands.

One mom’s pregnant ‘Thriller’ goes viral (VIDEO)

At 40 weeks pregnant, Bonnie Northsea got news her husband had testicular cancer but as she processed that sad development, she had to also get the baby she was baking out into the real world.
She took the advice someone gave her that dancing to Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller” video would induce labor. With her 3-year old son nearby, Northsea recorded her moves and shared it on her Facebook page. After receiving 55,000 shares on that, she moved it up to her YouTube page and 1 Million views and a few features on MTV, PEOPLE magazine and ABC news later, she’s a viral hit!
“This viral video has really helped by adding laughter to our family and bringing us closer together through these very difficult times,” she told PEOPLE.
She is a great dancer! I hope baby makes an appearance soon and her husband beats the cancer.

Reese Witherspoon Lessons: How to care for your expensive handbag

This weekend, much ado was made in gossip blogs over a paparazzi image of actress Reese Witherspoon dumping out water that had spilled in her sunny yellow $4,000 custom Reed Krakoff bag.

Witherspoon, a frequent featured mom in Bellyitch, had just come from the gym with her 10-year old son Deacon.
GET A SIMILAR BAG UNDER $100
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

I know it sounds petty but keeping your super expensive handbag in tip top shape is serious business. This water in the bag thing is downright sacrilegious in some circles.  So for the uninitiated, here are some rules of caring for your purse that cost over $1,000.
1. Keep it in the dustbag that it comes with.
2. Stuff it with acid free tissue or airbags to help maintain its shape.
3. Store the bag in the box and placed on a high shelf in your closet or bag shelf.
4. Make sure the space it is kept in has a moisture level of 50% because anything above 70% will cause molding and rotting.
5. Use moisturizer occasionally. Meltonian shoe cream is the best./

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);
6. If you live in a humid environment, store your bag in an air conditioned place.
7. Keep all make up in makeup bags before putting them in the bag.
8. Avoid storing pens, markers & pencils in the bag and/or limit to one pen with a secure cap.
9. To avoid theft, avoid leaving the bag in storage racks, coat check ins, cubby holes etc. Best not take your bag where you need to leave it in someone else’s care.
10. Buy renter’s or home owner’s insurance and make sure your bag is listed as an insured item.
The end. Be a responsible hawt bag owner. ha!

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);
