2016 Grammys Red Carpet: All Black Everything, Slits & Lesser Known Designers

grammy 2016

Ok. This 2016 Red Carpet report is very late because this year, instead of just covering the Red Carpet, I actually took the time I usually spend to assemble my red carpet coverage to instead  actually watch the show. Wrong move.

  • sigh *

Besides a few highlights, the 58th annual Grammy Awards held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California was very underwhelming. Even the fashion on the Red Carpet was * meh * .

One of the best parts wasn’t even in the show, but our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Gwen Stefani doing the first ever Live Music Video of her latest single “Make Me Love You” in a Target sponsored spot.

I kept wanting the award show broadcast to get better but it didn’t really rise the level of awesomeness I’m used to. Anyway, so enough of my excuses. Back to the Red Carpet coverage.

This year, the theme I saw woven in many of the looks was Black. Also there were plenty deep Slits in the leg and I saw several lesser-known designers shine.

As usual, while many people stood out, we focused on the celebrity moms we’ve featured on the blog before.

Alessandra Ambrosio stayed true to Versace and her ring game was on fire!

TV host and former reality TV star Vanessa Simmons looked quite regal in yellow.

Ciara bared leg and then some in a sexy Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture gown. I dare say she won the battle of whose slit could go up the farthest.

And Carrie Underwood looked stunning in a Nicolas Jebran satin ball gown also with a deep side slit.

adele chrissy vanessa 2016 grammys

Adele stuck to her signature black in a sequinned Givenchy dress accented with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Mom-to-be Chrissy Teigen looked quite royal in Yousef Al-Jasmi with Stuart Weitzman heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Between the heels and the long cape, I admit I was biting my nails in hoping she didn’t trip given she’s in her third trimester of her pregnancy.

Vanessa Lachey went for the vixen look in her Michael Cinco butterfly overlay sequined dress with a very sheer bottom.

Adele did deviate from black and went with Givenchy again for her stage performance of her latest single “All I Ask”.

She had a slight glitch in the beginning when the mics for the piano apparently fell off and landed on the baby grande’s strings. It made her sound off pitch or key at times. Apparently, those in the Staples Center couldn’t tell as they heard a near flawless version of the song.

Underwood also rocked out with Sam Hunt on stage

And finally, Queen Bey made an appearance to announce Record of the Year in slick back hair, natural make up and a organza, lace and embroidered gown.

10 More Summertime Hacks to Know

cup summer

We got such great feedback and response from the initial Summertime Hacks we shared earlier, here are 10 more from our Supernanny Pals to help you navigate the summer heat, bugs and other minor nuances. These tips also provide some great shortcuts to know. Enjoy!

mosquito

1. Keep a dryer sheet in your pocket to keep bugs away. You can spend tons of money buying bug spray, and you’ll most likely end up feeling sticky, smelling like bug spray, and getting bitten by bugs anyway. An easy solution is to carry a dryer sheet with you, which is something most people have at home already anyway. By carrying it in your pocket you can ward off bugs; something about the smell keeps the bugs away from you.

baking soda2

2. Sprinkle baking soda in sweaty shoes. Running around in your shoes without socks is a regular occurrence during the summer time because everyone just wants to slip shoes on and go. Unfortunately, this also causes extra unwanted odor in your shoes. To fix this problem sprinkle the inside of the shoes with baking soda to absorb the odors. If you’d rather not have the powdery look in your shoes, you can create a sachet by using a rubber band wrapped around a few tablespoons of baking soda in a handkerchief. Just put a sachet in each shoe and the odors will disappear.

fruit-fly-trap-4

3. Trap fruit flies with apple cider vinegar. Did you bring home fruit flies from the farmers market? Fill a glass jar half full of cider vinegar and screw the lid back on. Punch several holes in the lid and leave the jar where you have seen the fruit flies. They will be gone in no time.

sunburn

4.Cool a sunburn with white vinegar. Unfortunately, with the warm summer months comes the occasional sunburn. To take the sting out of a sunburn soak clean soft cloths in white vinegar, wring them out and lay them on the sunburned skin.

vaseline

5. Coat feet with petroleum jelly and cover with socks at bedtime. This trick will keep your feet soft and sandal ready all summer. A little petroleum jelly on your elbows and knees will make sure they stay soft and smooth for all of those revealing summer outfits.

ketchup

6. Mix a can of cola with ketchup for a quick and easy barbecue sauce. Figure out about how much sauce you want and add the cola to the ketchup to thin it out and add flavor and sweetness. Brush on chicken or ribs during the last stages of cooking on the grill to avoid burning.

condtionaer

7. Use conditioner to shave your legs in a pinch. Did you forget to pack your shaving cream for your vacation? That’s okay; you can use the sample bottle of conditioner that most hotels give you. This will leave your legs smooth and silky soft.

coconut

8. Apply coconut oil to bee stings and bug bites. Coconut oilhas anti-inflammatory properties and will help heal the sting or bite as well as soothe the pain.

hullers
9. Straws make great strawberry hullers. Take a normal straw and push it up through the base of the strawberry and come up under the hull. Keep pushing and the hull will usually come right out. Practice makes perfect with this, but it really works well when you get the hang of it and you won’t have all those strawberry seeds under your finger nails.

cup summer

10. Use cute cupcake papers to cover your drinks this summer. When the weather turns nice eating and drinking outside becomes standard, and almost mandatory. The problem with eating and drinking outside is keeping the bugs away from your food and drinks. Get yourself some cupcake papers and use them to cover your drinks. If you’re having a party the cupcake papers can even match the theme. To make a drink cover you just need to punch a hole in the cupcake paper and stick a straw through. Just make sure there are no bugs inside the straw before you drink.

Hosting a Baby Shower this Spring? Check out these tips, recipes, links and more!

fun baby shower

If you plan to host a baby shower this Spring or Summer, you are fortunate to have more options and flexibility than in the Fall or Winter.  Backyards, rooftops and patios become options for a venue. You can save money too by hosting it at a park or making your own favors with outdoorsy themes versus buying them like the super cute tutu nail polishes and the “Ready to Pop” favors above.

Shower hosts can serve cool and refreshing mocktails too like the “Summer Is Coming Mocktail” created by Zico brand ambassador and celebrity nutritionist, Tanya Zuckerbrot, of the renowned F-Factor Diet.

It’s made with Zico‘s newest flavor: watermelon raspberry coconut water. I mixed up a batch using a sampling of complimentary stock Zico provided me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and because there is no alcohol in it, I shared some with the kids and they loved it too. The lime and mint garnishes give it the perfect kick at the end. Yummy. Here is the recipe for the Summer Is Coming Mocktail recipe:

mocktails

Serves 8

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups ZICO watermelon raspberry coconut water

1 small seedless watermelon, flesh removed and diced (about 4 cups total)

2 limes

2 cans zero-calorie lemon-lime soda

mint, for garnish

  1. In a blender, puree the coconut water, diced watermelon and juice from the limes.
  2. Pour the mixture into a pitcher over ice.
  3. Serve by pouring 2 oz. of the pureed mixture into a glass. Fill to the top with lemon-lime soda and mix lightly to combine.
  4. Garnish with mint.

And before you start planning for a Spring or Summer shower,  you must head over to Pinterest and there you will discover links to many websites and blogs choc full of fab ideas. Here is a select few to start you off:

Inside Tamera Mowry-Housley’s Baby Shower (PHOTOS)

Celebrity event planner Mindy Weiss did a superb job planning Tamera Mowry-Housley‘s baby shower which took place at the Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica, California last Saturday, April 4.

It was truly a girly affair (the theme) and according to PEOPLE magazine, Mowry-Housley decided to relinquish all control to Weiss to organize the entire thing and was blown away at the end product.

Guests included Mowry-Housley’s co-hosts on The Real: Adrienne Bailon, Tamar Braxton Herbert and Jeanie Mai; her twin sister Tia Mowry Hardrict  of course and their actor brother Tahj Mowry.

The table decorations were awe-some. I loved the fact they were designed to look like tu-tus! How girly indeed!. The floral arrangement were to die for!

Guests were also treated to pink Essie nail polish and a feminine pink headband. How cute.

The shower cake from Joan and Leigh’s cakes was made like an oven, complete with a bun in it! So fun!

Loved that the invitations matched the party decor, but oopsie on the misspelling of the Housley’s son, Aden, who they welcomed in November 2012.

Guests went home with goodie bags filled with chocolate eggs, PEOPLE  reported.

It looked like an exquisite, ornate and decadent affair! Well done Mindy and congrats to Mowry-Housley and her husband FOX News correspondent Adam Housley, expecting their second child weeks from now.

50 Things Moms should Teach Their Sons

Bellyitch Rewind

Following up on our post today about things to teach your daughter, and in light of what I’ve seen in social media and on blogs with many moms to sons expressing concern about what to say to their boys to make sure they grow to see a nice long old age, here are 50 things I came up with that moms (and dads) should teach their sons from childhood, adolescence, college years and beyond.

1. Don’t hit girls, even your sister. Even if she hits you first, your punch will more likely than not have a much stronger impact than hers.  Besides, the cops usually side with the girl and you will go to jail.

2. Play to win.
3. It’s important you tried your best, but always aim to win.
4. Work hard. It really pays. We’re not just making that up. Laziness gets you nowhere.
5. Study hard, even when your friends are goofing off. You’ll be glad you did.
6. Don’t take shortcuts.
7. Pay attention to math. You’ll need it to learn to balance your checkbook and not get shortchanged on a bill or later in life.
8. Pay your bills on time and your balance every month.
9. Don’t put something on credit you can’t afford to pay at the end of the month. With interest rates, you’ll end up forking up $200 to pay off a $10 pizza over the course of 10 years.
10. Fix up your bed as soon as you wake up. It’s a good habit to develop for when you get married or have roommates later.
11. Nothing comes easy. Even the overnight success stories you hear about took a long time to get there.
12. There are no shortcuts in life. In fact, trying to take them only makes the road longer.
13.  Treat a girl like how you’d treat your mom, with respect.
14. Stand for something. Be principled.

15. Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet. Anyone can update Wikepedia. Never rely on it.
16. Always think about your future when you make decisions in the present.
17. Stick by your argument, but know when to concede a point.
18. Don’t call people names, in person, or online. It’s a coward move. Use your intellect instead when debating.
19. Be empathetic to others. You won’t understand everyone’s struggles but try not to devalue or second guess theirs.
20. Don’t share a photo of a girl she sends you with your friends, and even your closest friends, and especially if it is nude or partially nude Sexting can land you in jail.
21. No means no.
22. The best looking girl in school isn’t necessarily the best girl in school.
23. Treat your friends well. Be loyal.
24. Don’t gossip. The only way two people can keep a secret is if one of them is dead.
25. Don’t look up to athletes and singers as role models. They get paid to do what they do. Find role models in teachers, family members and men doing good by their family and community.
26. When you go off to college, drink in moderation. Sloppy drunk can get you arrested, killed or in jail. I want you around long after college and have no plans of outliving you.
27. What you choose to wear can and will matter. You may be judged by others, police, employers etc by your clothes. Dress appropriately for the situation.
28. If you are ever pulled over, keep your hands on the wheel and don’t make any sudden movements so you’re not mistaken for going for a weapon. When you reach for your registration in the glove compartment box, ask the officer permission to do so first.
29. The kitchen is not just for girls. Learn your way around it.
30. Shower every day. And don’t put back on dirty clothes from your hamper afterwards. It defeats the purpose.
31. Never leave the house without combing or brushing your hair. You’ll turn the girls off.
32. Brush your teeth daily. Plaque is not cute.
33. Avoid congregating or loitering with your friends in too large groups at the malls or public places. You might get mistaken for being in a gang.

34. When a fight breaks out, go the other way. You can watch the replay on YouTube or World Star Hip Hop later.
35. Trim you nails weekly. Long nails on a dude are not attractive.
36. Use deodorant daily.
37. Learn how to change a tire, check your oil pressure in the car, know the guages on the dashboard and how to handle a car emergency.
38. Figure out how to use basic tools like a wrench, screwdriver etc.
39. Always use condoms. Ignore the girl who says she’s on the pill.
40. Don’t do drugs. Here’s a long list of folks who drugs have messed up who had perfectly good lives before.
41. If you do things the first time as you are told, you will waste a lot less time.
42. Everybody is insecure. Even the popular kids. They just hide it better.
43. Learn to enjoy reading. You’ll be doing a lot of it at school and even after you graduated college.
44. Your first love won’t be your last.
45. Friends change. People grow up and grow apart. It’s part of life.
46. Don’t feel pressured to stay in a car of someone driving recklessly. Teens die every year in car crashes. You don’t want to be one of them. I don’t want you to be one of them.
47. You should always get dropped off at the safest public area and call home for a ride.
48. Not everyone will like you. That is life. There are 7 billion people in the world. You’ll find others who will.

49. It’s okay to cry. You’ll feel better after you do.
50. Eating healthy and daily exercise will keep you looking young when your friends start showing their age.
Unofficial #1 rule. Your mom is number one and make sure all the ladies in your life know that.  (wink)

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher name their daughter Wyatt- why it’s cool

When actress Mila Kunis and fiancé Ashton Kutcher welcomed their daughter this past September 30, the couple chose to give her the very masculine name Wyatt, with the more traditional female middle Isabelle.

I love masculine and unisex names because they’re great for avoiding any gender-related boxes or limitations people may put you in.
I love going by just JJ because those who interact with me before learning my gender, usually on the phone or via email or snail mail will not have any chance to filter their response thru gender lenses.
Cool.
Recently, WhitePages.com came up with a list of top recent unisex names for babies . Here they are:

Back to School: 5 Superfoods breakfast to fuel your day

As the school year starts, getting a healthy nutritious breakfast to keep one going becomes more and more important for kids and parents.
Nutritionist offers these tips of 5 nutrient-rich breakfast items that can fuel your day.
  1. Soothing Sips
Green tea usually gets all the attention, but black tea is packed with theaflavins, antioxidants that a study from Rutgers University in New Jersey suggests may speed up recovery from muscle soreness after exercise. Drinking a cup of any brand of black team may also reduce risk of heart attack – plus it’s a great way to warm up on a chilly fall morning.
  2. Go with Grains:
If you’re looking for a heartier breakfast choice, go with the powerful superfood combo of Oats and Greek yogurt. The oats are a source of soluble fiber which helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels, in addition to lowering cholesterol. Greek Yogurt has double the amount of protein as regular yogurt, in addition to probiotics that aid digestion and boost the immune system. However, regular yogurt has roughly 10% more calcium than Greek yogurt, so if calcium is your focus, you might want to stick with regular yogurt.

To add some color and antioxidants to your bowl, add some blueberries. In addition to antioxidants, this popular superfood contains potassium and Vitamin C. It also has a high water content, which makes them a great source of hydration for your skin and entire body.
  3. Pile on the Protein
If you’re looking for extra protein in your breakfast, an omelet is a great choice. I recommend Egg Whites, which have a high amount of lean protein that will keep you fuller, longer. They also help you maintain strong bones, muscles, nails, and hair. Along with your eggs,Spinach is a leafy-green packed with antioxidants that will make a great addition to your dish. Just one cup of Spinach provides about twice the daily requirement of Vitamin K, which plays an important role in cardiovascular and bone health. Toss in some sliced tomatoes and a sprinkle of feta cheese and your omelet will be filled with enough nutrients to get you through the day.
  4. Fresh, Flavorful Fruit
Fruit is a great addition to any breakfast – especially Grapefruit. It’s packed with antioxidants such as Vitamin C that provide anti-aging benefits, boost immunity, as well as help in lowering cholesterol. All you need is a half of grapefruit to get all its nutrients – and feel free to sprinkle a little sugar on top for added flavor
